ode 402: Cannot communicate with device fix - Sable

Since the day I bought my iPaq 614 I wanted to update it to the newest version, but every time the HP RUU would return a "Code 402: can not communicate with device". I've searched for hours to fix this problem only to find out tips like 'disable your firewall and A/V' and 'don't use Vista'. But today I found the solution:
Normally, Active Sync acts as a DHCP server for your Windows Mobile device, but this doesn't work if Windows Mobile isn't running which is the case when you're flashing a new ROM. In this case, the Internet Connection Sharing service should deal with assigning the right addresses, but since I normally don't use ICS, I had this service disabled.
Because of this, no addresses where assigned and no communication path could be set up between my computer and my iPaq. Simply be re-enabling this service (and the dhcp client service, don't know if you really need it, but I enabled it just to be sure) I fixed the annoying code 402 error
Hope this information is helpful because it looks like I'm the first one to discover this solution
//edit: damn, can a mod change add a 'C' to this post's title

i got a code 402 while updating RUU_1.8.0_081208_MP_M089_WWE (radio fm 0.89) now i am stuck withthe HP blue screen.

If your 614c dies during radio update, please have a look here.

solved !!!
Found post on HP forum.
OKâ ¦unfortunately previous note wasnâ t so accurate.
Iâ ve tried this solution once again and it doesn't work properly.
Iâ ve spend much time reading many articules on pocket/mobile forums and I found 2 workaround methods to upgrade our iPAQs.
Starting from the beginning.
We have to download ROM from HP Support site (in *.exe format) and executed it to unpack all files (as Iâ ve already written in C:/iPAQ ).
Among many files that we have, find FLASH.NBF file and edit it using HEX-editor (i.e. xvi32). When we display the context of a file, we have to delete first 3432 bytes (in xvi32 editor - XVIscript > Editorâ ¦ > type command DEL 3432 and press Execute â then close the editor without saving and then save file on HDD as FLASH.DIO). When we create FLASH.DIO file we have to decide which method weâ ll use.
1. METHOD is:
Just copy FLASH.DIO file on empty microSD card. Put inside of our device and turn it on in SDLoader mode (VOICE UP + OK + RESET). Important thing is to fully charge the battery of the device.
2. METHOD is:
We change the type of FLASH.DIO to FLASH.nb0 â just rename.
We have to search network for DNW app and execute it. Firstly in Configuration tab select Option and change connection type from 0xc000000 to 0x3000000 (USB). Secondly turn on our device in DOWNLOAD IMAGE mode (VOICE DOWN + OK + RESET) and connect it to PC. In SEC folder (subfolder of DNW) we can find drivers that we have to install after connecting iPAQ. When weâ ve covered everything, we select USB Port > UBOOT > and select our FLASH.nb0 file.
For me worked first method!

NEED to CHANGE GER ROM to WWE ROM

Okay, I bought a MDA Compact from T-Mobile 2 days ago, The Problems is that the Device is German and I Speak and Read English, Could someone walk me through to change it to English, I read so many tips and none work.
ROM-Version:1.12.2.21 GER
ROM-Datum: 11/14/05
Furmempfangerversion: 01.12.20
Protokool-Version: 4.0.13.23
ExtRom-Version: 1.12.02.106
Need to read some more, like this one:
'XDA mini (MDA compact) with German ROM to English ROM'
Basically you need a WWE shipped-rom & maupgradeut_noid.
unzip the shipped-rom, put maupgradeut_noid in the same dir. as the unzipped files. Connect your magician with usb & execute maupgradeut_noid twice.
Or go for an SD-flash.
Cheers, M
Thanks
I tried that and I get a error 103: ROM IMAGE File Not Found, Thanks for that, what is the way with SD-Flash? I''l try anything....
Ulymanchild
I think you didn't extract the ROM before using the maUpgradeUT_noId file...extract the EXT file with winrar adn then in the contents use maupgrade_noid
EXT File
Okay this is what I have
MDACompact_WWE_1.12.152 and MaUpgradeUt_noID I put this all in one folder and I tried to run and still the same ROM Image Error.
I have the MaUpgradeUt_noID with the GETDEVICEDATA and the ENTERBl and still nothing, could somebody walk me through like I was a child who was born yesterday. ;-(
I don't understand the EXT File thing either when I download all these stuff from XDA website I have them in zip and I just extract them normally with XP. What am I doing wrong?
It's not that difficult:
- Unzip NL_11300_131_11200.exe (or any other shipped rom) to a folder, so you get the maupgradeut.exe etc.
- Copy the getdevicedata.exe to your Magician and execute to write DeviceData.txt
to \Windows and view with notepad
- Hexedit header to correct ID from DeviceData.txt
(probably only if using a rom from other provider)
- put maupgradeut_noid.exe in the same folder as the devicedata.txt, maupgradeut.exe etc
- run maupgradeut_noid.exe to upgrade CE image
Regards, M
I meant EXE file and not EXT file......
I think MDACompact_WWE_1.12.152 is a single EXE file with an Install shield icon.....
you have to extract it to get the ROM files
to do that download WinRAR from www.rarlabs.com...install it...
after installing winrar if you right-click on MDACompact_WWE_1.12.152.exe you have an option for etracting...extract it to a folder....now copy MaUpgradeUt_noID.ext to this folder and execute it...now you won't get the error 103
For you information ROM files have the extension .nbf....you find .nbf files inside the extracted filder
Hope you get it
Thanks
Well I want to thank all for the advice but I tried step by step and try it again and nothing ROM ERROR 120 COUNTRY I will go by a SD-Flash and try it that way if that doesn't work owell I gues I will sell it and go to england and buy me one there,,,;-(
Did you run the maupgradeut_noid twice?
The SD flash will work, just as long as you copy the first 416bytes of your own rom to the new rom.
succes, M
Ulymanchild
Hey, before selling it, read this:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=MagicianRomUpgrade
This 120 country id error is easy to solve.
After you run the first time, just press "Exit" as the install wizard tell you.
After you exit from the wizard, run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe once more. This time you will not see the error again.
Hope you get it
Almost work
okay I tried what you said and I got as far as the what it's going to upgrade to put it losses the connection, what could be wrong, you gave me the best advice so far and I thank you.
I'm clueless on this point besides the usual 'try again'?
SD will work there's a nice 1.13 on the ftp -) mine) so you can always go for that approach.
Instructions:
- download the 1.13BS rom from the ftp
- get ntrw.exe & romugrade.exe from the ftp
- Download the Hexeditor from:
http://www.hhdsoftware.com/hexeditor.html
- get a SD-card > 64MB
- make backup of everything you want to keep from your magician & SD-card. everything will be wiped!!
- fully charge your magician
- uncheck usb connection in Act.sync on your PC
- put your magician in Bootloader (camera & power & soft-reset at the same time for a few seconds) wait till screen fades & reads 'serial v1.0x'. Screen is very dark since backlight is of.
- connect usb, now the screen reads 'usb v1.0x'
- start romupgrade on your pc
- pick the magician connection in the listbox, wces something I belief
- now a screen pops up
- type d2s in this screen
- follow progress on pc & magician
- wait till checksum finishes
- get SD from the magician & put it into a cardreader. DON'T FORMAT!!!
- put ntrw in C:\
- start a command window
- type on commandline: ntrw read myrom.nb1 [sd driveletter]:
- follow progress
- error at the end is normal
- make a copy of myrom.nb1
- open myrom.nb1 & the BS rom with the hexeditor & replace the first 416 Bytes of the BS rom with the first 416 bytes of myrom.nb1 & save it to mybs.nb1
- type on commandline: ntrw write mybs.nb1 [sd driveletter]:
error at the end is normal
- put the SD in your magician
- now it should read 'press power to flash'
- press the power button
- watch it reaches 100% - checksum will always fail
- reset & hopefully enjoy the new rom
Cheers, M
Back Error
I tried to back up my rom with romupdate.exe and when I try to pick USB it does not work only thing that showes is com2 com4 I also unchecked USB Connection on ActiveSynce and it still doesn't work so what the hell, okay I will pay some one to help me I will call the person and have them walk me thru!!!!
HELP
Seems like there's something fishy with your USB connection or your device. Best thing is to find someone nearby who has done it before & use his/her equipment .
Guess you're not getting it to work by talking through.
Terribly sorry, M
Could it Be
I just found out that my device is a HTC Charmer the new one that came out in December and it does not work like magician...So I have to try something else
You lucky bastard,
There is progress in that field. So keep looking.
Cheers, M
Can I try the first procedure OLTP described in the begining
I have a Qtek S110 with a French ROM and I need the English version.
I have downloaded MagicianRadio_1.13.00_maupgrade and Qtek_WWE_1.13 from the ftp site. Are there any special precautions I have to be aware of?
Thank you very much for your help.
Best regards,
Sidi
Make a backup of your existing rom, in case you might want to fall-back for warranty issues etc. & a separate copy of the ext-rom cabs in case of provider settings etc.
& make a back-up of all pim data as everything will be lost & programs need to be reinstalled. Don't forget to mark your provider settings for gprs access, they're usually located in one of the ext-rom cab-files. You can write them down too.
For the rest it is fairly simple, connect usb & execute the maupgradeut_noid twice.
regards, M

Flashing the Radio / modem on ipaq 614 - first ideas

Hi,
Hp just released an update for the 614, only for englisch.
I have a german 614
I dont care about the OS part since I use a cooked 6.1.
But the update also contains a modem / radio update to version 0.88.
Currently out there i think there are 0.77 and 0.81 depending on language.
I believe the radio fw is language independent when it comes to functionality. But the hpruu says wrong language.
With the current universal hpruu tools you can only update the OS which is of no use.
I know you can update the radio by booting with the key combination:
lower left key on the side (record button) and the camera button.
Then turn on ... it shows : SD loader for modem
(similar on how you update the OS)
I also know that the radio update files are in the update.
They are called
amss.mbn
amsshd.mbn
maybe also partition.nbf
But I am not sure about this.
It might work with just copying the file to a non HC SD card and using the key combination.
There might be some file renaming involved.
I someone out there to try that and let us know how it worked ?!
Thanks
sax
hi, imho theoreticaly you can update
1) .mbn files with qualcomm loader(SD Loader for modem) iam tryied it but no luck , .mbn files from hp 1.01.04 update have bad format not usefull for flashing from sd card :/
2) .nbf files from eboot loader(SD Loader), no luck bad format too :/
other way you can use QPST tools from Qualcomm or QC BS Firmware Analyzer(avaliable on xda forum)
small how-to connect ipaq614c for using with this tools
1) put ipaq to modem mode (push ML and power on)
2) connect ipaq to pc
3) install MotoQdrivers.zip (dont forget to adjust speed for COM ports)
i have included Qualcomm MSM6280 loader for QPST - NPRG6280.ZIP (ipaq 614 have this chip for radio)
sorry for this chaotic text i hope that is usefull
Saxon,
File partition.nbf is for IpaqFileStore update.
Maybe you should try with the following way:
- extract the whole package from HP side
- remove from the obtained directory the OS file (the larger one)
- put your device into SDloader state (voice recorder + mute + power on)
- connect your device into PC via USB
- launch RUU utility
In my opinion there is a big chance it will work.
Such way (using the SDloader) was working for one polish case where the upgrade of firmware failed due to PC crash. The only chance to flash again was to use SDloader + HP tool.
Good luck.

I used the qpst already and it worked that way that i could upgrade but phone didnt boot afterwards. so i am very careful with this tool now.

did you try the qpst update ???
if yes did it work if yes can you send a step by step ?
thx a lot
hi , try my patched ROMUpdate.dll mayby it could help , i dont try QPST because i have succesfully update my 614c with hpruu utility --> http://rapidshare.com/files/139300161/ROMUpdate.dll.html
did you also try the cooked wm6.1 os on it already ? does it work with the new fw0.88 ?
thanks !

Thats correct
But thats for english devices.
I have a german one where it doesnt work, and I am looking for a workaround.
Any suggestions ?
Get Hp Sp38905.exe http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...swLang=18&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=hh-59339-1
Use winrar to unpack it.
You'll find an Eboot.nbf. This Eboot.nbf is language and SKU id independent.
Replace the file header of all .nbf files from hp 1.01.04 update by the header of this Eboot.nbf file.
The header is just the first 3424 bytes of .nbf files.
You do not need to change .mbn files.
Then you can run Hpruu.exe to update. The file names shown during updates are wrong, but results are right.
@kkwy
And what if, like in my case, sp38905 is reporting the same error.
product id: FB136AA#ABB
Just try to find one .nbf file that you can flash.
Then replace header file with the header file of that .nbf file.
The header seems to be useless (solely for checking) so you can replace then at will.
http://rapidshare.com/files/139300161/ROMUpdate.dll.html mayby now working ,try
EDIT> link updated
@ Z!L0G80
Yes, It works.
Thanx
Sucess!!
Now I have os 1.01.04, fw 0.88.
It takes a long time for radio firmware to flash, but, be patient.
Thanx again Z!L0G80
Thanx Z!L0G80's
It works for me to on the Dutch 614.
Strange thing is, that in de system config it stil says Dutch version of the mobile device (but it's UK now).
Very nice again.
ok great .... works ! thanks a lot !
would it also work with the 914 ? anybody tried ?
thx
My PDA already came with 1.01.04, fw 0.88 Rom, however I used the HP rom update utility to see if the rom would update without issues.
The rom update worked fine, however unfortunately something annoying is happening with this rom update. Now every time I try to do a clean boot, the first time the PDA turns on, after marking the screen, it would try to do some HP software update and right after the update I am forced to do a Reset, then I can use the PDA.
Previously I didn't have to do this, when I did a clean boot, the pda worked straight away after marking the screen, and I wouldn't need to reset it.
I think the reason for this maybe because this rom comes with extended rom, is there anyway of taking it back the way it was, or getting rid of the extra applications like the streaming player
This is the Rom I used
Type: BIOS
Version: 1.01.04 (22 Jul 2008)
Operating System(s): Microsoft Windows Mobile 6
File name: sp40097.exe (53 MB)
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...3048-1&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=3544358
Am I the only one experiencing this issue, is there another rom that doesn't do this?
Thanks
anyone tried Sd loader modem with success?
what if the Activesycn not work?
I have tried copy the amss** files on SD, then sd loader modem. And wait so long time, 2 hours, and stay with the screen "write amsshd.mbn". I dont think it is working.
Anyone tried ?

Pof's tool for enabling WIFI in XP.

I am really struggling with this tool and will appreciate all the help I can get.
I installed WinXP successfully with WIFI and bluetooth enabled and working. Then I didnt use my Shift for a month ( been on business trip). Battery was completely discharged. When I charged the battery WIFI and Bluetooth are switched off. I assume it cause of full battery discharge.
Now I am trying to make use of Pof's tool but having problems.
I ran install.bat and then tried to use enable WIFI with no joy. I downloaded crygwin and installed it.
I tried to installed ioperm manually but it said "ioperm already installed, canot start service".
On enableWIFI.bat it says "connot connect port. no device found"
Any ideas? pof?
Try uninstalling ioperm (ioperm -U I think?)...reinstalling it, then copy hsect2.exe into the bin folder of cygwin (in c drive)....open cygwin by double clicking on the cygwin icon....type in hsect2 -W 1 to turn wifi on...zero to switch off....same goes for bluetooth - hsect2 -B 1 for on....
TRy that first...
Just out of interest, where did you even find instal.bat in pof's tool? All I got was a zip file with 3 text notes and the hsect2.exe...nothing else? I couldn't break the .exe down any further?
I downloaded and unzipped POf tool
When I downloaded Pof's tool I got more files. There were batch files to switch bluetooth and wifi on and off. (so tha tu dont have to type switches). I also had ioperm and crygwin.dll plus and install. bat which installs ioperm.
When I install ioperm it says driver installed. funtion call to start service failed.
when I uninstall it by using -u switch it says its is not running.
the bin folder in crygwin in empty. I copied hsect2.exe as you suggested but it requires crywin.dll to work.
I am close to pulling my hair out.
Try to remove battery, install it back and then run install.bat and so on.
I got cygwin from here - http://www.cygwin.com/setup.exe
Just run the installer, the only change you need to make to the default settings is to tick the ioperm box, which is in the libs section. You'll see what I mean when you install it.
Then you can copy the hsect2.exe file to the cygwin/bin folder, and run cygwin and issue the commands there.
ya75khan - I think you need to delete all the old cygwin files and start from a new. As Pantaloonie touches on you need to d/l the full cygwin recommended data set PLUS make sure ioperm is selected...I tried using a lesser number of files by deselecting some but eneded up with similar messages relating to DLL's missing etc etc.
I started a fresh with a new download and installed as per Pantaloonie's instructions and "bing", hsect2 worked.
Pantaloonie, do you think we got a different file set off pof's site? Seems we might not have the same files as some others? Mind you, entering the command line info is straightforward - the buttons do look savvy tho....
No joy
Many thanks for the great suggestions. However despite follwing it word by word I have same problem. i.e. ioperm is installed but service fails to start.
and hence hsect2 has no effect.
I then reverted back to vista. swtiched on WIFI and bluetooth. I earlier had an acronis image of the clean install xp. It was a breeze to resotore the xp with all the drivers installed.
I am happy to share the acronis image. it took a lot of effort to install all drivers and can be realy helpful for some one looking to install XP. problem is it is almost 4gb in size and I cant find a free web service to upload it.

New WIFI Problem - No Connection

I've been crawling through the internet for 2 days now, still found no solution. (even used the search-form of course).
My HTC Wizard does not connect to WLAN.
it is a MDA Vario - AKU3-Rom (official from T-Mobile), IPL + SPL 3.08, no-CID, no-SIMLOCK...
Description:
When i open the comm manager, it shows the icon for not-connected wlan. when i click it, there is the "windows is running"-animation, but nothing happens.
The same with 3rd party devices (like Homescreen++, WIFIFOFUM). I dunno what to do... PLEASE HELP!
Start->Settings->Connections->WLAN contains only grayed textfields (SSID, Modus, BSSID, Tx-Rate, Channel, Signal quality) and there is no MAC- or IP-address specified...
Start->Settings->Connections->Network Cards does not show any networks, but a variety of drivers (i think) like: NE2000-compatible Networkdriver, SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter. Upon opening them and selecting the automatic ip-gain the IP-Field says "no connection" instead of an IP-address...
(Pictures are from Bottoms-ROM, nothing has changed however i tried different ROMS...).
push
I have the same problem. Please someone help!
Try the following:
First use File Explorer on the device (or equally, browse device via computer and ActiveSync) and check to see if you have a file WifiInit showing in Windows\StartUp\ folder. This is the .lnk to the WifiInit.exe file in root the \Windows\ folder.
i) If the shortcut is present in the StartUp folder delete the shortcut (only) and soft reset your device. After re-boot try turning on WiFi. If it still doesn't work, then navigate to the WifiInit.exe in the root of Windows folder and click it to run the exe. Then try the Wifi again.
ii) If the shorcut is not present in the \Windows\Startup folder, then navigate to the WifiInit file in \Windows\ root, click it to run and check if WiFi works after that. If it does then you need to create shortcut in the \Windows\StartUp\ folder
Anything beyond this I cannot help further with.
Good Luck
Thnaks for your interest Nandaly!
Okay, i tried it with the O2-ROM installed.
There was the link in StartUp having 26Bytes on the phone.
WiFi still doesn't work after soft-reset.
So i looked in the Windows folder and there are 2 files: a link to WiFiInit.exe (sic!) and the file itself.
WiFiInit.exe (6.95KB) doesn't respond to clicking on it.
Wifi is now grayed out in the CommMgr.
With a new link in StartUp it's not grayed out anymore, but it doesn't work...
What i've seen on bootup is that the Wiz seemingly is trying to start the wifi and fails. (it takes longer before it launches the TouchFlow interface)
So i fear that the WiFi-EPROM is corrupted or it has sth to do with the battery that i had to revive. Since i didn't smash my device into the corner, i bet it is not a loose antenna...

ROM Hw6945 Windows Mobile 6.1

Hey guys, I found how to upgrade the HP 6945 in a brazilian website and I tried, IT WORKS! I'll explain how to do so now that I can post URLs
First of all, and which is a bit difficult nowadays, you need to use Windows XP, I saw cases that the people have done the upgrade in a virtual machine, but it didn't worked for me.
Let's go to the specifications of your mobile: your Flash Type MUST BE G4 and your BootLoader MUST BE G.39 , if you don't know you can see that in your mobile "Start/System/HP Asset Viewer"
Let's start,
1. Connect your mobile by ActiveSync (you'll need the 4.1 version as your mobile is WM5) using the cradle/dock/usb (was recommended to do a Hard Reset, but it's optional. To do so press On/Off , Send and Cancel Calls buttons, then use the PEN (Stylus) to press the Reset button under the mobile)
ActiveSync 4.1 - http://www.mediafire.com/?blql91lb1cqfq5z
2. Download and extract the file "SPL vG.39.7z" - http://www.mediafire.com/?o243pua8x7c0j0h
3. In the "SPL vG.39" folder, look for a shortcut named as "Command Prompt" and execute it
4. Now write this line in the command:
pdocwrite spl -n0 -b 0x20000 0 0x80000
5. You'll receive in your mobile a message about a dll (itsutils.dll) Press YES.
6. Now you have to put your mobile in BootLoader mode. Press the two buttons next to the directional + On/Off + Reset (using the Pen[Stylus])
7. Now open the ActiveSync and go to "connection configurations". Deselect the box "Allow USB Connections".
8. Download and extract the file "6915_ENG.7z" - http://www.mediafire.com/?kgwl83e22e2oody
9. Open the folder and execute "Sable_RUU.exe"
10. Press Upgrade and WAIT for a message "Update finished!"
11. Go back to ActiveSync (now you should use the 4.5 Version), go to "connection configurations" and select "Allow USB Connections"
12. Enjoy.
Everything is working, and you now have a new Office Package, including OneNote.
Your calls are better, don't freezing. The only problem is that SMS don't do any sounds when it arrives, but it's just the SMS.
The bluetooth you'll need to go to the Settings/Connections for the first time to work, but it's just once.
I have all the downloable content, if the link don't work, email me.
The original Rom of your iPAQ you can be found at HP's website named as GSM Radio Firmware, if you want, but I don't mind you'll need it.
The original website is in Brazilian-Portuguese, I've just translated for you.
http://www.gsmfans.com.br/index.php?topic=202365.0
That's everything. =)
