noob question :) - Shift General

I just lost my X7500 yesterday, pretty sad right now~~
I'm thinking about get The Shift, however I found that there are two different versions, 120GB and 40GB, I'm not sure what else is different. and I just wondering if I can upgrade the hard drive by myself? if yes, how to get system installed or just copy it from old hard drive. thx

normally wat we get is 40GB htc shift depends on dealers that is selling htc shift. and Yes, u can upgrade the hdd urself. get the right 1.8 inch hdd or SSD with zif connector. in order to get system installed(xp , or windows 7) ,please follow the thread in this forum. to use vista from original hdd, use the image copy software to backup to another drive. thats it.

New to x7501 need answer???????

hello every one in the world i am new to advantage x7501 just got it yesterday ok my question is. Is there any other way to access the micro drive besides using activesync trying to drag and drope larg file oh my god i dont even think the slider actually moved so is there a way too make it a storage drive? what i was think way i have a 2 gig mini put file on there then move too micro drive and yes i want to flash black rom but im scared i just brough from tigerdirect for nearly $900USD and dont want a bricked phone any help would be appreciated
just use the olipro athena unlocker, and flash away.
if you experience a lag during moving files to the microdrive, maybe activesync is syncing at the sime time? activesync is a majorly powerthirsty app.
yeah but try moving a 2 gig file via activesknc and you ll see what i mean that darn thing is really slow it would take a really long time move file at the size im trying ta store the movies i converted onto the micro drive and trust me i have a sick @$$ rig
oh yeah and one more thing where i just seen something on here that said hard spl unlocker which i just downloaded a file AthenaWrapper.zip is this what i need ta unlock in order to flash black rom? be cuz i was reading something about 3 steps i only see one file in the unziped folder

Install wm5torage version 1.73 into your device, run it to make it a usb 2.0 disk to your pc, then you'll be able to move your large files in pc to your microdrive or storage card.
the olipro athena unlocker will take you trough the three steps
moved the movies onto my sd-card with a 2.0 usb card reader. was rather quick.
You might want to use version 1.73 even if the cooked ROM already has the wm5torage, because 1.73 is the only stable version. I've tried the newer version with no success myself.
ok thank every one for your help just have one last question and then im off to flashing ok like i said i just download the file AthenaWrapper and its small like almost around 1mb. now there is one file in side the folder when i unziped it. ok is this file the first thing i run? let it finish and then flash rom? and btw i have a pre-paid t-mobile sim card but im thinking of getting at&t be cuz of 3g now will this work after i unlock and flask new rom? or do i have to flash the radio to i was doing alot of reading and heard some one bring this up just want to be sure of what steps i need to do THANKS AGIAN oh and how do you make the pre-paid t-mobile go online they told me they only support side kicks with web service this sux because this one of the reason i brought the phone was for internet

[HELP]Broken USB + German To English Rom NO HSPL

Hey there guys once again. Ive scrapped my other threads about trying to upgrade to Wp7 NoDO. And now im running into a HUGE problem.
On the downgrade from HSPL to SPL and Stock ROM. I came across the fact my insurance replacement is a GERMAN phone. All via the help desk of HTC.com's Phone support. Which is funny since when i get the phone replaced via my insurance it was on 3.14 or so , WWE not GER.
So the short story is , Ive gone back to stock , And HAD to use a GER Rom , Which in all honesty is absolutely daft. I cant read it? I cant do anything with it :s
Also the USB part of the Phone ONLY accepts Charge , No Data. So its proving difficult to do anything about. So heres my question to you smart guys @ XDA D.
1) Changing the ROM to a WWE Version without the use of USB Data : Is it possible?
2)Getting it to a Later ROM Or at least a working 'English' ROM so i can use it until december? Or even so i can send it to Tmobile for a fix.
3)Do i just 'lose' the phone on purpose and claim on the insurance 'yet again' and bin this absolute PIECE.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591314 , that shows it CAN be done , but requires the use of the Data portion lol!

Yes but doesnt that require you being able to use your USB Data part of the USB port? I unfortunately cant.

not if you have either a pci card reader, (many are internally mounted to usb headers on your motherboard, , these wont work, they return the ID for the usb header, not the attached card) or best of all, any other winmo phone with an sd card slot, , you only need it for 5 mins, so if you have a friend with ANY winmo phone, or, many laptops (but by no means all) have a pci mounted card reader, then you're good to go at making a goldcard.

Ive obviously got a card reader. But all the laptops i have here with Card readers are dead in the water atm ( PC repairman by trade ) I was going to attempt this http://www.nazriawang.com/2010/04/how-to-create-goldcard-with-ubuntu.html , Just unsure on how well it will work. The other unfortunate problem. Ive converted ALL my friends to either HTC's with Android or WP7.
Any nice link on creating a gold card? Other than the one i searched and posted in my original post?

That link is for android phones, just cos the hd2 runs android, it is still a windows phone.(same goes for the webpage many people keep mentioning that offers free goldcards,,, they're for Droid and wp7,,,)
Once you figure out how to get the serial, pm it me with an email address and I'll generate the image for you.
http://samsamuel.co.uk/news.php?id=8
Will show you how to write the image, but you are stuck till you get the serial. Any friend good enough to let you backup their android rom and flash back to winmo temporarily? That's ten thousand times easier than any other way of getting the serial.

HTC HD2 with android

I picked up a phone used online for a good deal as is. When I turned it on it was in a loop on magldr 1.1 I eventually got it to boot after wipping the data on the phone. I've never owned or rooted a phone, but i'm an old school pc guy who has been rooting things like SNES, psx 1,2,3, DC, wii, xbox etc. I know some linux, unix, and of course dos and windows so I'm sure it's not hard to figure this thing out.
I did a search and found out what MGLDR is and found out how that I have hardspl 2.08 already setup.
My question is can I upgrade the MAGLDR and now that the phone does boot I noticed it's saying i'm almost out of drive space?? I also can't get it to connect to my xp computer because it never finds all the drivers so I can't mount a drive.
Can someone point me to a guide that walks me through what was already done and what I need to do to get more space on the phone? I already put in a 2gb sd card, but not sure how to move or remove apps so I don't get the error about low disk space? I would also like to use win 7 if possible and not droid.

Well firstly, use task29 to wipe your internal memory. This will erase magldr, your rom, partition etc. Your phones internal memory will be clean. However, it doesnt wipe hspl or radio so your good.
Flash the latest Magldr. And flash CWM. And then your desired rom. If u want to ask something or steps or if there is something you dont understand. Feel free to pm me

Thanks for the tips. adil1508 great suggestion to simply wipe everything and start fresh. Seems like the phone hasn't been used in at least a year, but hey for $50 I can't complain.
What do I need so I can connect the phone to the PC? I have xp and it installed a bunch of drivers, but it still gives me one last prompt for a driver and says can't find driver so I can't see the sd card on my pc.
Also is a 2gb micro sd card big enough or should I plan ahead and pick up a bigger card? What's the biggest card I can use?
mengfei: I looked over your guide quickly and noticed some instructions to upgrading my radio. How do I find out what radio i'm using now?? I would really like to upgrade my radio and loved that post about not bricking so thanks again.

Windows 8.1 Preview install on tablet

I'm interested in installing the 8.1 preview on my Samsung Ativ tablet. Its an 11" tablet with a 1.8GHz Intel Atom 32bit CPU, 2GB Ram.
My concerns are regarding roll-back of the previous OS should there be a problem. That and removing the preview build once the RTM gets released. Anyone have an ETA on that???
The tablet does not have a CD drive obviously, nor do I have any restore media on thumb drive. It has a reinstall partition on it that I've used before, I just want to be sure that this partition doesn't get removed when I upgrade. Will that partition ALWAYS live on the device regardless of what kind of OS I install? Is it on a read-only partition?
http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/sam...iv-smart-pc-atom-does-work-windows-8-1-a.html
Hold windows button while powering the device on, that will then open your bios instead of booting into windows 8 supposedly.
Windows 8.1 will overwrite your old recovery partition. There is no protection such as it being read only etc. If you wish to keep the 8.0 recovery partition (highly advised) then you will need to create yourself a recovery USB, I think you need an 8gb thumb drive for that. Before proceeding into the 8.1 install make sure that you have tested that you can load into your recovery USB, even if you dont actually perform the recovery. A few people have made their USB's, updated to 8.1 and then wanted to go back only to realise that their recovery USB is corrupt or that they have no idea how to use it or in more extreme cases havent made one at all.
There are alot of guides including a good one from microsoft on how to create a recovery USB, it essentially just duplicates your devices existing recovery on your thumb drive. It is highly recommended that you do this anyway as you can then delete the existing recovery partition and free up a whole load of space for your tablet (I'm guessing your not very happy with the amount of usable space on your tablet already)
Full release, well, RTM is in late august apparently so it should be 1-3 months after that. Some point this autumn anyway.

I am not sure how your device is setup. I made a recovery USB like the directions advise before installing the preview on my Surface Pro. It seems like Internet Explorer is hanging on more sites than before but it hasn't bothered me enough to reload the recovery from the USB partition.

First off, I'm putting this on a tablet, thus there is no windows key, no keyboard at all. So I would need to use a USB keyboard and hope that its initialized early enough in the post so that it recognizes the keypress.
Second, and I highlighted the most important part of all, if I hose the recovery partition then I'm kinda screwed for future recovery efforts. I need to tred very lightly here. I will wait if need be for the win 8.1 RTM if there is a way to keep the recovery partition intact. Perhaps I could make a new recovery partition that contains windows 8 AND 8.1, thus anytime I need to recovery after that point it will install win 8.1. Is that possible?

Nope, not really I got a 32 GB Micro SD in there so that helps. I have a 64 GB micro and it died about a week after buying and I threw away the box and receipt. Paid cash so no way to look it up by credit card.... oi:crying:

I know its a tablet. There is a windows key on all tablets, what did you think the massive button below the screen was, it just returns the key code for the normal windows key on a usb keyboard.
Make a recovery USB, then you can hose the recovery partition safely, the recovery usb is essentially that partition moved from tablet to USB memory stick (or you can do DVD but you would need a usb DVD drive in your case and it seems you can't always boot from usb DVD drives for some reason, so I wouldn't advise it). 8.1 will overwrite the old 8 recovery, move the old 8 recovery to usb and then update to 8.1 and you can use the usb to roll back to 8.1.
The internet explorer thing, well, windows 8.1 and all new software in it is beta quality. The pre release is not for consumers, its buggy. Things crash.

Really, really broken. My lady and muse is Una ! [ Linux Mint ]

My very basic old Desktop pc runs on a 128 GB SanDisk sd-card after the hard drive failed to boot my system.
Since this desktop has a card reader (slot), I installed Mint on a Sandisk card via a bootable live USB stick.
Since then everything works fine, even better ....I can run different OS systems by only changing the sd-card.
Its a big machine, running on a very small card....the card needs an adapter to fit in the slot of the desktop and even fits in my phone if I need to transport my pc.
This build is very interesting for people with somewhere an old pc with broken harddrive.
You only need a functioning Bios, and even a sd-card of 64 GB will do.
Linux Mint functions very well in combination with smartphones ... the commandline is not complicated and its "internal" design is completely adaptable to your taste. All you need can be found in the extensive repo's of Ubuntu.
Enjoy !
