Does anyone know what this is? - XPERIA X1 General

Hi Guys,
I hope everyone is well. I am new owner of an Xperia, and even more novice and realm of modding it.
This site is an immense resource and is probably a strong reason why people started loving their Xperias, despite the shortcomings. Anyway, excuse my ignorance, but I ran into this while being on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36YtZHXGCjA
My questions are:
1. Does anyone know what this is and how is this possible?
2. Has anyone tried using it or has access to whatever this entails?
Again, excuse my ignorance, should that be the case . Thank you for reading!
Fragger.

this looks like one of those chinese knock-offs. as far as i know, there isn't anything out yet for our real xperias that mimics an iphone's os

Ye don't bother it's a cheap knock off...I did a little research on them, they sell them on eBay shipped mainly from Asia. They don't have a slide out keyboard like the real X1.
They also do exactly the same ones in an iPhone shell. This guy does a pretty comical review of it, it uses the same operating system as the one from the video you posted by the looks of things. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=B2tVE7qRLwk&feature=channel_page
Stay clear I'd say!!!

well ... this one HAD a slideout keyboard.

people uptop dont know
its called iFonz i don't have it on my xperia but its an app that replicates the iphone ui

makes sense ^^
i knew that tool but never ever installed it nor watched a video about it. if i want an iphone ... i'd bought one

ahh I didnt watch the whole video but I've seen those fake X1s on ebay before.

It's a real Xperia in the video running S2U2 and iFonz.

What you are looking for is iFonz, as others have already mentioned. For some screens and info on it, visit my blog at: http://xperiancer.blogspot.com/2009/01/ifonz-iphone-for-windows-mobile.html

Just that too bad no one's made a panel to launch iFonz yet.

That would be cool, a Panel... but since iFonz is not add-on or replacement of the Today screen but rather comes on top of it... i don't mind using it as is either.

Does Ifonz run? I thought it had no wvga support

It sure does... http://xperiancer.blogspot.com/2009/01/ifonz-iphone-for-windows-mobile.html
Not WVGA support from the developers, yeah (as you can see from the bottom bar in landscape a little shy of the total width)... but it runs perfectly none-the-less.

Replace windows mobile 6 with another OS?

hi guys.
i have a tytn II PDA.
i'm using it since 2-3 months and at the end i can says it is not comfortable at all.
microsoft has to work in the worse way it is possible every time.
not complete as a pda, totally uncomfortable as a telephone.
can u tell me if there are some roma or OS to replace the windows mobile 6 pre-installed?
i knew apple OS where the best one, is there something i can do in order to have a better pda instead of this microsoft trash one?
thank you.
Google Android?
http://www.mobilecowboys.nl/nieuws/6265/fromfeed
thanks 4 the reply.
the site u linked is in duthc and i cannot understand some things.
looking around it seems android is still under development.
could you tell me something more?
tnx
No Other "fully functional" OS exists for the device.
just out of curiosity how long have you been using the device?
first month or so of using windows mobile is always tedious... but when you get used to it.. you wont want to go back (I got a nokia N95 and regretted it)

hi there.
i'm using the pda since 3 months.
by now i've quite stopped customizing it or "playing" with since i find win mobile set up quite messy.
i came from nokia smartphone series and found symbyan the best os for mobility ever.
fully customizable, fast, stable and above all build with "few clicks" philosopy.
with official win 6 rom, in order to reach a sub menu i have to dig into folders and tabs getting annoyed really fast.
start menu is almost not customizable, i cannot move links where i like, well they could have done a far better work insetad of that.
maybe changin rom passing to an unofficial one could give me some more satisfaction, but i'm not sure since the starting point is the same.
i hope i could explain myself at an understandable basic level ^^
sorry for my horrible english
bb.
Oh,now I get it. Phone people keep moaning about how Windows doesnt behave like symbian. Duuuh! Let go of your complete reliance on the d-pad(its a Symbian thing),you have a touch screen now,use it.

there are lots of things could have been projected better as iphone did, for example
WM6 in trouble ?
he, he, interesting post. I also spent a lot of time trying to simplify my phone interface. There are many great programs and tips on that forum. However, the first time I had an iPhone in my hands, I admitted its interface is 8 levels ahead of M$. Now, what we need is a fully customizable, fast and stable OS. Might be Android since HTC signed the partnership. Let's see. Anyway M$ got to react quickly otherwise they might be out of the game soon.

i was just joking ^^
i just hate M$, not guys who use it -like me -
anyway, any hint to improve wm6?
i totally agree with you...
windows mobile is very complicated becuase it has all these extras that the average cell phone user will never even bother using....word, excel, ppt, etc. while business users thrive on these features.....
i am an average cell phone user but the only reason why i got the 8525 is because of the large qwerty keyboard so i can text a lot, but i wish the interface was as simple as a normal phone, maybe google android will fix this problem in the future =)
extra features do not make something complicated. complicated to you maybe. Very simple and easy in my opinion, besides, its near identical in operation and style to desktop windows, which everyone, even mac users are familiar with.
buying a hermes for just quick sms is like buying a a ferrari to get to the shops... should have bought a sidekick.
"because of the large qwerty keyboard so i can text a lot"
tests show that young fanatics could sms alot! faster then a good typist on a normal sized keyboard could type
they only one who could beat the young sms fanatics was freaky enthusiast old school telegraphs people
if a full keyboard was all the requirements then a nokia comunicator would prob be closer to fitting the need of a normal gsm user who just wanted a keyboard

Check out HTC home. you can add 8 programs to the quick launcher.
Or since you seem to be such a fan of the iPhone, why not install the iPhone interface for hermes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302739&highlight=iphone
or you can even look into the HTC touch interface.
I think thatif you look at thoes, they will help with your situaltion.
BTW, you should look in the TyTn/Kaiser forums for specific infomation to your phone. this one is for the older TyTn(8525).
Mate, go ahead and install Mobile 6! It is a lot better than the old WM5. Make sure you get a "cooked" version from this site, one with a built in HTC cube, HTC plugin etc. You will not fail to be impressed. Did I mention that you can use a 8 meg micro card for extra storage? Try doing that with an I-Phone!

Since it's Schaps's baby I expect nothing but the best
I see lots of hype about this... and all due respect to Schaps, it looks to be an amazing interface, but I also imagine it to be a retail product when it comes out.
I'll certainly try it out, I just get annoyed in principle by advance hype... Show me the money

Even if I hesitated in the past to make a retail product, I have pleasure to tell you that TouchXperience UI will be 100% free!
But as you can imagine the long time I'm spending on this project has a price, even if I'm not asking a lot, so I count on donations to continue TouchXperience development and support.
I would need some suggestions or advises regarding user interface design of the custom event/profile manager which will be integrated in TouchXperience. Don't hesitate if you have some ideas:

What software have you installed on your HD?

I just got my Touch HD this week and so far am really enjoying it. I was sceptical about getting it due to disliking the TyTnII, but everything seems to run great in comparison so far.
I am still fairly new to WM and so learning the ropes ATM. Both my biggest criticism and greatest positive of WM is that there is so much software available. This does seem to pose a problem though, in that it is a complete lottery as to where to find it, what some of it does and if it will work with your specific device! I'm trying to find out what 'must haves' everyone else is using but it is proving difficult a bit of a mine field.
Now that we have the HD, we also have the problem of whether it is compatible with that huge screen!. Can people post what software they use and perhaps a brief explanation of what it does and how it helps/betters the standard/non existent software? This might be really useful for n00bs like me to refer to when they get their device. I know it can be fun installing random stuff for a while, but it can also become tiring when stuff doesn't do what you need! I did look in the Programs/Utilites & Games ~ working on the Touch HD ...which is great, but if you don't know what stuff does, how do you know you need/want it?!
I've not installed much yet but here are a few useful ones...
Total Commander - Better file manager.
CorePlayer - Playing divx etc videos.
Sprite Backup - Backup.
PocketScreen - Take screenshots.
Weather Database Editor - Had to install this to add the town I live in as it's not in the default list (requires .NET compact framework 3.5 available from MS).

I'm never getting a WinsMo or Xperia ever..

Sony is not doing ANYTHING bout the xperia.. have they given up with it? im getting soooooo bored with the phone, theres no new panels etc. i'm never getting a windows mobile phone
http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/10/palm-pres-new-ness-event-video-now-viewable/
seems to be much much much much better than WinsMo will ever get!
There's alot more to WM than meets the eye you know. The Xperia is hyped with the Panels in mind but it's certainly not the only feature there's alot more that can be done.
I, myself have removed the panels completely, I don't like them and never used them. I currently use the Panels button to open my comm manager so I can change what's on and what's not.
Have you installed any other software for you phone at all? Just a few interfaces to mention for instance:
TouchFlo
SPB Pocket Plus
SPB Mobile Shell
Im sure there's more. The bottom two offer a heck of alot of customization for the "look" of your phone. Skins/Icons. You could have it looking like an iPhone if you wanted, or there abouts.
On top of that there's more programs that you can install than you can shake a stick at. It's much like a PC, the amount of things you can do with it is amazing.
I'll agree there are problems with the device, but the problem with the majority is they always look on the negatives and not the positives. Sometimes the phone is a bit hard to use and after showing a few friends of mine the phone, they have really liked it but I have had to put them off the phone because they without being rude don't have the knowledge to use the phone and be happy with it to it's fullest.
Windows Mobile really is what you make it, some like it, some hate it. It's not the greatest of operating systems for phones and it's probably one of the most hardest to use and learn, but the options you have are well worth the effort.

mate, i hated windows mobile before! yes i did, even though i'm a microsoft "fan" but when i used my X1, i started customizing it in a way that really fits my needs, and now i'm using my phone as a computer which is always in my pocket!
you can find alot of cool stuff in the forum, customize your phone and play arround with it, change all default values (be careful not to change something that will make you hard reset, and always backup). Customize the phone, windows is the most flexible and customizable OS ever (sorry Linux fans).
let me know if you need any help
The thing that concerns ME is that SE and HTC have parted ways, and no longer co-operate.
That means the support level for our HTC-made Xperia X1's is going down the tubes. HTC is the one most likely responsible for firmware upgrades to their hardware, so now that SE and HTC no longer co-operate/partner I highly doubt HTC will be making any firmware updates for our phone.
Consider this... the HTC Touch HD has been released after the X1, yet has already receive one or two firmware updates by HTC to fix various issues. The X1 has received ZERO updates.
SE has basically decided to give up on the Xperia X1 from what we can see, since they moved to a new manufacturer.
Of course, this doesn't mean the great developers at XDA will not be coming out with home brew firmwares and fixes, but it does mean that official support from SE is probably going to be winding down and dying...
why else would a simple fix to the bluetooth problem (which MANY people here have found) is not being pushed out? Because SE doesn't want to pay HTC to release the firmware fix since they no longer co-operate.
Oh well. I hope to be proven wrong, but the fact HTC is pushing out firmware updates for all their devices but NOT the Xperia X1 (despite being released longer) confirms this.

Eeek! That's news to me. I was planning on buying an X1 soon (read: early next month?), but now I'm going to have to reconsider after I send Sony a line of questions. If HTC isn't making the phone anymore, who is? Or is it simply going to go out of stock after the reserves sell?

What a load of crap.
All we know is that HTC won't be building the X2 (or whatever they end up calling it) together. We don't even know what OS is going to run on it.
However it's SE responsibilty for the software, they are working on a new firmware, whether those on branded phone will see it depends on their networks (unless you do a DIY job).
And if SE do need help from HTC with some hardware issues, HTC will need to provided it, they will be under contract and most likely will want to build future models (X3).
HTC is not going to produce "next" Sony Ericsson phone.
HTC still produces XPERIA for Sony Ericcson.

Lies.....
I have seen what the new Palm Pre can do...it's a good interface but basically that's all it has good interface.
And yes I am impressed but I told myself, I will never buy a Palm because it looks like it has shifted from pda function to a P.O.S. kid's toy ... a competitor to the iphone.
I am looking for a backup device when I don't have the computer, not some stupid kid's toy.
Also...I really really want the Omnia HD...it's multimedia and out of the box experience is great, but AGAIN, symbian add-on software isn't as good. So if I were to buy a Samsung Omnia HD, I would buy it as a PMP, and I would buy a Toshiba TG01 as a Pocket PC.
But for now, Xperia has some qualities of Omnia HD and some qualities of other good and fast windows mobile phones like Toshiba TG01. Obviously Omnia HD doesn't have windows mobile, which I prefer over symbian (I've used symbian S60 first before switch to Windows Mobile), and it's also obvious that Toshiba TG01 doesn't have headphone jack and keyboard like the Xperia. So Xperia is the sort of the best of both worlds for now.
If I had cash I'd buy Toshiba TG01 and Omnia HD seperate...but if only XDA developed for the Toshiva TG01....
If there was a super godlike overkill hybrid phone that was both the Toshiba TG01 and Omnia HD...I would buy that hybrid instead...

I think we should sticky that comment to the front page. IN BIG LETTERS.

[REQ] iphone-style startmenu / NO honeycombs!

hey there,
is there a way to get the startmenu in iphone-style, so that there's not that ugly honeycomb-style in every menu?
important for the .cab is, that it changes every menu to the new, so also the "more" at settings, subfolders and so on.
tried several searchs at this forum, but got no results, only how to change the amount of columns.
thanks in advance.
s
for the hd they used to have a guy called tom cordan who made a cool start menu app dunno if hes done it for the hd2
please no offence !!
But it you want something that looks like and Iphone.... Maybe you should get the real thing.
Sorry but I think you bought the wrong phone
Come on guys this "just go buy an iPhone" response is a lazy, unfriendly response that seems to crop up on here as soon as anyone mentions an iPhone.
I have a HD2 and love it, but you can't deny that the iPhone OS has some clear advantages (in terms of style and use) over WM, and until we get WM7 what is wrong with asking if customisations are possible to make things more iPhone like?
Just because I might want a better interface or more stylish apps doesn't mean that I have forgotten the benefits that WM has over the iPhone in other areas, which is (for most of us) why we have the HD2 and not the iPhone

Agree 100%.
I couldn't stand the honeycomb program list when I tried it on my Diamond - much preferred the original layout. Don't think I ever said "Oh well, Iphone for me then...!"

I don't like the honeycomb, too. But I also don't like an iPhone. I just want the icons to be side by side.

As much as I have distaste for his quest to make the HD2 look iPhone-esque, I can understand his aversion to the terrible locked-down/-in operating system, and subpar hardware.

A good way to replace the default Start screen and add the ability to define 2 Favourites screens as well as accessing Programs and Settings is to use Panoramic Launchpad . Costs $4 and worth every penny
