Camera problem - Touch HD General

Hello everybody:
I'm trying to find out why does everything happens to me...
Yesterday in the snow I used the camera and everything worked fine. (Well, really I used the camera in my hands, not in the snow... )
Today I try to use it and after taking a photo, the HD shows the photo some seconds, and then starts thinking (colours circle going around), and it keep thinking +/- 1 minute. Then goes back to the camera, but when I try to find the photograph that I have just taken, but there isn't in nowhere.
I performed a search with Resco Explorer, files starting with IMAG0, but I didn't find anything...
I changed the folder to store the images with de Advanced Config. Thinking on it, I have restored the folder DCIM\100MEDIA in the Advanced Config, but it keeps doing the same.
Anyone knows why does it happen and how could I fix it??

No ideas??
Please, sombody who can put me in the right direction!!!
Don't want another hard reset!!

Have you made any changes or installed any programs that affect the camera?
What mode/settings are you using when taking pictures? Is the problem in all modes?
Have you edited the registry to activate extra camera modes like burst, sport etc.?
EDIT: Have you tried a soft reset?

All the changes I've made, have used HD Tweak, or Advanced Config.
The day before I changed de locations folders with Advanced Config, but I think I've restored them to try if that was the problem, but there aren't any changes.
With HD Tweak, the setting concerning the camera:
11.1: On
11.2: On
11.3: On
11.4: On
11.5: On
11.6: 3 Mpx
11.7: 3 Mpx
And with Advanced Config, the suspicious settings:
In Camera group: (Sorry if the translation isn't faithful enough)
Backup Location: My Images
Codify images in portrait mode: Yes
Delay in shot button: Off
Shoot time: Off
Delay time for shot button: 1500
And in locations (those I changed before the failure appeared):
Default location for image files: \Storage Card\My documents
(I changed other locations, but I think that they aren't related with the camera...)
In the camera settings, the Storage option activated is "Storage Card".
I think that other options can't be related with this.
There are any registry settings I may review??
The extra modes were activated with the configuration tools, not in the registry directly.
Yes, I've made (several) soft resets.
Sorry for my english if anything doesn't make sense.

Permanent Camera fix (No Snow Effect)

Camera settings (to remove snow effect):
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/HTC/Camera/AppDefSettings/General
Set Contrast - 5, Brightness - 6, Saturation - 3, Hue - 5,Sharpness - 3
These settings will not reset themselves after closing the camera app or doing a soft reset! They become defaults.
Hope you find it useful!
kta,
That was great. It was minimized.
But i have not checked the output of the shot.
will it affect the output shot?
I tried this on my XDa2i but it doesnt work, the lowest value it allows me to enter is 0
To bad that won't work on the XDA II the camera needs a lot of help too. Does anyone know of a fix for the XDA II?
Emil, the output shot will be better as well!
Daredevil, the values are +ve, ie. 5, 3, etc. Maybe I should have used a ":" instead of a "-".
Great work!!!
thanks for the tip
I do not have these settings in the registry. Is this because I have not updated the ROM ?
Hi, where do I find this regedit?

You don't need to go into the registry...
fire up the camera application and click the settings button
click on the tools menu and choose adjust...
the settings are in the drop down box...
In this way you won't have to meddle with the registry...
amazing!
Hey kta, I tried it out, just wanna let you know the results are amazing!
I had given up on this camera (and just about the phone as a whole) especially when my friend checked with someone working with doopod said that this is a hardware (lens) problem so we can't really do anything about it. But you did it!
Just wanted to let you know I really appreciate the fix!
Fantastic! I applied it and it is much better
Thank you VERY much
amazing!

If you don't change them in the registry, the settings will reset themselves once you close (not minimise) the camera application or when you change the ambience from auto to night, etc.
The only permanent fix is to change them in the registry. Here's a link to a free registry editor: http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=31
PS: To all those that showed their appreciation: You're welcome
Maybe I missed something but I still do not find these attributes in the registry.........see my earlier post and screen shot.
kta, I agree that to get the change to stick its a registry change but in my registry I don't have these parameters. Is this because I have the older ExtROM ?
Grunt,
I'm not sure why you don't have these in your registry. I don't think it's the ROM version. I would try changing the settings in the camera settings and see if they get created. If that doesn't work I would try entering them manually as DWORD values base decimal (Brightness, Contrast, Hue, Saturation, Sharpness).
Why aren't you upgrading to 1.11 anyway?
for mini?
hi does this registry tweak work for mini also? if yes, Brightness - 5
is it refering to brightness = 5? sorry saw someone on the above mention post trying to go lower than 0...thanks
Just to clarify:
Camera settings (to remove snow effect):
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/HTC/Camera/AppDefSettings/General
Set Contrast to 5, Brightness to 6, Saturation to 3, Hue to 5,Sharpness to 3

problem with camera app

Hello !
I'm using an HTC Touch HD French version for 2 weeks now and a got a problem with the camera.
First it was working fine, but after a few days without using it I try again and a cannot take picture in photo "standard" mode. Between this of course I add a lot of app on my HTC so maybe one of it had create the problem.
The point is:
If I take a pic in "photo mode" it take the photo correctly and then after 1 sec it was taken the loading logo appear on the screen and the app stay like this for a long time (more than 1 or 2 min). I can go back to the TF3D by pressing the "home" or arrow button but in any case the picture was not saved on the phone memory anywhere.
But the more curious thing is the following. If I take a picture in another mode it work perfectly !!! "contact's photo mode", "Landscape mode", "Theme photo mode" (sorry if their are not the accurate name, I don't know them in the English version), I try all of them and I had no problem with it.
About the app I install on my HTC, the only one that should use the camera is Quickmark (for reading QRcode) it work very fine and I don't think it's making the problem.
If anyone had the same problem or has an idea to help me fixing it, thank in advance for helping me !
i have this exact same problem. it started happening today after doing the registry tweaks to allow the extra camera modes. i haven't tried other camera modes yet. i'll give it a go now and see if it's the same as you.
edit: that's so weird! all the other camera modes work... but when i go back and take a standard photo i get the spinning logo for a 1-2 minutes.
what programs have you installed recently? or since you last had the camera working? have you made any registry edits?
i changed the settings so that it doesn't review the picture after you take it (default is 3 seconds). and now it goes to the spinny logo right after you take picture, that makes me think its a problem related to saving the photo to the device. im gona keep fiddling
Thanks I'm not the only one with this problem.
Actually I've install so much things... the problem is that I was not using the camera a lot of time so I cannot set precisely witch program could have made the problem. But if it's about writing the files in the memory, I don't really know was could create that, I've no special program about file managing or so.
For exemple I have: Quickmark, GPRS NoData, Advanced config, Coreplayer, fring, Gyrator2, TomTom7, SecureW2 TTLS Client 4.0.0, WiDiFoFum2, WMMiniGPS, Metro, PocketUno, SimCity2000, FakeCall, other app are small stuff...
EDIT !!! I've just add the hotfix and desinstall an application that was not working (ResPhone) and now the problem change. I can take the photo, it same to work good again, but when I go to the album all the picture taken are a BIG JAM of pixels (purple, white and green!!) and it's still only in "photo mode", other modes are working fine like before !
And now i was just doing so test and the problem come like before again ! Amazing, I'll be crazy !
i fixed it! man i was just about to do a hard reset and all...
i went into advanced config and reset the camera settings back to default. i think i had changed the settings: encode photos in portrait mode, capture key delay and key delay. put them back to normal, soft reset and it all works again
it will be interesting to see if you had changed settings in advanced config as well.
Thank you ! it seems to work again.
I'm not sure I changed some stuff about camera in advanced config but anyway now I set like this and it work:
encode photos in portrait mode: NO (the program seems to do it anyway)
capture key delay: enabled (default)
key delay: enabled (default)
Hope it can help others too.

Camera Initialisation Error

Hi,
Before posting this, I searched the forum and have only found posts years old.
This issue I am facing at the moment is a camera/video camera issue stating the following:
Unable to initialize camera. Failed to set up the camera device.
I only really noticed this happening since doing camera related registry tweaks such as the 8MB, or additional hidden modes. Originally I applied the tweaks using a registry editor, but now I use the lastest BSB Tweaks application. The issue seems to arise whether I have the tweaks turned on or off so I am not suggesting that the tweaks are actually to blame. I have been tweaking this phone so much that it could be anything.
Anyway, a random soft reset here and there fixes it, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experieced this issue with the HD2?
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you may have inadvertantly caused this issue with a bad registry edit.
If so, you'll need either a complete overhaul of the camera registry settings, or a hard reset.
I've only ever used the camera tweaks in BsB, and my camera works fine (I've never seen your problem). If you like, I'd be happy to either export or list the registry keys and values off my phone that might help.
Were all the registry hacks within one key, do you know, or where they in different places. (I don't know if there's just one key for camera settings, with sub-keys, or if they're spread about the registry.)
Hi there,
I've been getting this also, I think I've narrowed it down to the swype keyboard I'm using...
I haven't changed default keyboard with SIP so I have to manually change keyboard whenever I boot, sometimes the swype keyboard doesn't come up, it flashes like it's going to change but remains on the default keyboard. When this happens I can't start the camera. When the change is seemless the camera works fine. A soft reset usually fixes it.
Are you using swype? Have you tried removing any other tweaks to see if it helps?

I'm using the swype keyboard and also have done the camera super fine reg tweak and have had no problems. I didn't use BSB tweaks and I didn't do the reg setting for more camera modes.I also haven't changed default keyboard with SIP.

I am using Swype also, but never experienced an issue using this great keyboard. After posting the message, I did a soft reset and it is working again.
I think I will remove Swype for a while and see if the problem returns. I have all the CABs on my SD card anyway, so not a hassle to reinstall.

I believe that the registry tweaks affected different places...I am trying to find the thread....
EDIT: Found the thread...I actually installed the CABS in the end I think....cannot remember now. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=602234

Since there's only a few of them, I'll just list the values I have, rather than export the lot and end up changing ALL your camera settings.
These are the values for the registry keys in the 1st post on that page.
HKLM\software\htc\camera\image\jpegquality\superfine
5Msize = 746028
HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P2
EncodeFormat = 48
HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P1
EncodeFormat = 2
HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\recparam\MP4VGA
BitRate = 2097152
Hope this helps
Edit:
How strange - I didn't put that space in "superfine", and it's not there when I edit the post!

It doesn't happen all the time, only when I try to change from default to swype keyboard and it *doesn't* load properly, then the camera issue appears. I've also applied all tweaks for the camera using BSB.
It's very random but I've now flashed to Miri's rom and so far no swype issue and no camera issue!
Thanks, I will check these settings before and after toggling them in BSB Tweaks.
My hd2 has the same problem.
I just tried hard reset my device and install new rom, but it still comes out all day.
Some time a soft reset can take effect, but some time only hard reset can make the camera work.
When the issue comes out, it seems the Opera Mobile 10 beta can not work correctly either.
PS: I didn't use any of the tweaks.
I also got this error once and a soft reset corrected it. Don't know the actual cause.
I have BsB tweaks installed, but no Swype.
I had this problem before too, i remember it happened after I made registry tweak on the video recording quality. its gone after I restore to the default value. I did not use swype keyboard, but i did installed bsb tweak.
I had this problem as well when trying to create my own reg cab to change all the settings I wanted upon a hard reset. It messed with a lot more than just camera not initializing. I narrowed it down to the camera reg settings but not sure which one, I couldn't bare hard reseting my device 5 times in one day.
The only reg tweak I have for the camera is the 8MP one which hasn't messed it up.
happened to me too.
have BsB tweaks installed, dont have swype.
only soft reset fixes the problem.
I didn't make a registry tweak manually, I did this with BsB tweaks and don't have any problems with it. I really think you need to change back, the reg. tweaks you did manually! GL!
ok, restored all default camera values in the registry - problem still exists.
i found out that if i soft reset the device and then start the camera it works fine.
problem happens when i use a program before using the camera.
any ideas?

Just uninstalled this. Lets see if that makes a difference. I dont even use the camera, so despite noticing the problem, it doesnt actually affect me much.
I have this problem approx. every third time I want to use the camera. The only way to fix it then is a soft reset.
I've installed several tweaks/patches but no swype.
Hi all,
I had the same problem but I manage to solve it in a very weird way.
This might sound really strange, but have any of you put something between the battery and the cover? When I went home over Christmas I use another SIM card to lower my roaming charges. I didn't want to loose my other SIM card when not is use so I used a piece of tape and put the sim card on the soft "pillow" on the back of the battery cover. It just barely fit and I was happy with the fit.
When I did this I also started to experience that the camera could not initialize. At first I thought it had something to do with my old SIM, and I did a test to put in my new SIM and the problem disappeared (this without my other sim between the battery and the cover) I thought I just had to live with it until I got back and could start using the proper SIM. But when I got back I switch SIM but the problem still existed. I then started to suspect that it was actually the other SIM pressing against the battery that was the culprit and as soon as I removed that the camera has been working fine.
So the only conclusion I could make is that if there is pressure on the battery that somehow causes the camera to not initialize properly.
Hope this helps...
Cheers
Jonas
have the same problem. i have bsbtweaks installed but not swype.

Photos & Videos tab problem - help!

Hi, I just noticed today that the Photos & Videos tab on my slider doesn't work. It shows the correct number of pictures on the right hand side, and the camera and video icons work, but no pictures show up like they used to - just a black screen!
Another quirk is that although there is a Menu soft key on the right, the left soft key is called whatever was the left soft key on the tab previously pressed. So if I hit Messages, the left soft key is All Messages; I then slide back to Photos & Videos and the left soft key is All Messages!
Weird. The Pictures and Videos application does work, I've tested it. But it won't work when I slide to the Photos & Videos tab.
I'm using the stock 1.66 ROM (UK) and have not made major changes to the phone recently; just a few small apps and a couple of Leo hotfixes (car kit and music stability). I don't even know when the problem started.
Maybe the registry setting for the P&V tab is corrupt? But where can I find that setting?
Please help - I don't want to reflash!!
Many thanks,
David
if worse comes to worse you wouldnt have to flash, just hard reset, (resets to factory settings or when new rom was flashed)
what apps have you installed to narrow it down, and what hotfixes did you apply
Photos & Videos tab problem
Thanks for replying. I installed the Leo hotifxes for music stability and car kit enhancement, so I can't see why they'd be a problem.
The only other relevant app is Resco Photo Manager which I've had for while and didn't notice a problem. I went into the settings and unchecked everything.
One other person has reported the same problem at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6858630#post6858630. I haven't had a boot problem, just a problem with the slider tab. The Picture and Image Viewer (pimg.exe, I think) works, as does HTC Albums.
I don't know how to check the links Sense puts on the slider or how to get into the slider at all except to rearrange and delete tabs. The thought of reinstalling all my apps gives me a headache. I hope there's another way of fixing this.
Oh, I also have CHT 1.8.0, but there isn't a setting in it for slider tab shortcuts, so I don't *think* that's the problem.
Many thanks for your help,
David

Nothing showing in Photos & Video Tab [SOLVED - partially]
I have a Touch Diamond flashed with Lite Rom v4, and the problem just started a couple of days ago. I think it may indeed have to do with a landscape issue. When I turn the device to landscape view (specifically at the 270 degree position), the photos returned. I can then rotate the device back to the portrait position, and the photos also rotate. However, once I leave the Photos & Video Tab and return, the problem is back. I checked the settings, including that for Cookie Home Tab Editor, and couldn't find the settings to control Landscape/Portrait views; maybe it's built into the ROM? Although it's not ideal, for now I'll have to view the photos in landscape first.

HTC Default Registry Settings

Hello everyone. I've got the HTC Pure (I think it's the same as the Touch Diamond 2). I was reading through some other posts about registry tweaks to improve the performance of the camera, unlock picture modes, increase photo quality, etc. All of the tweaks seemed relatively harmless to the phone, and the only risk was to the camera if something didn't work.
Well something did not work, but I'm not sure what it was. Some of the tweaks worked fine (like unlocking Sport and Burst photo modes). However, now whenever I take a regular picture with the camera the phone freezes when it displays the picture I just took. The only thing I can do at that point is press the "end/hang up" button to return to the main Today screen in TF3D. But then when I return to the camera app it won't load, and the picture I just took was not saved either. If I run the cleanRAM app, the results show between 1-2megs freed up, then the camera app responds again, but still the same end result.
I've reviewed all the settings in HKLM>Software>HTC>Camera and everything there and in those subfolders appears normal. But I don't remember what the settings were originally. I'm hoping if I return the camera registry settings to their default values this problem will be fixed.
Does anyone have a list of the default HTC camera registry settings? Also, what are the other registry keys that affect the camera besides the folder where I've been looking?
If I were you, I'd re-post this thread into the TD2/Pure forum. Some folks there with a Stock ROM may be able to help you out.
Thanks. I will try to figure out how to do that!
