Permanent Camera fix (No Snow Effect) - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Camera settings (to remove snow effect):
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/HTC/Camera/AppDefSettings/General
Set Contrast - 5, Brightness - 6, Saturation - 3, Hue - 5,Sharpness - 3
These settings will not reset themselves after closing the camera app or doing a soft reset! They become defaults.
Hope you find it useful!

kta,
That was great. It was minimized.
But i have not checked the output of the shot.
will it affect the output shot?

I tried this on my XDa2i but it doesnt work, the lowest value it allows me to enter is 0

To bad that won't work on the XDA II the camera needs a lot of help too. Does anyone know of a fix for the XDA II?

Emil, the output shot will be better as well!
Daredevil, the values are +ve, ie. 5, 3, etc. Maybe I should have used a ":" instead of a "-".

Great work!!!
thanks for the tip

I do not have these settings in the registry. Is this because I have not updated the ROM ?

Hi, where do I find this regedit?

Click to collapse
You don't need to go into the registry...
fire up the camera application and click the settings button
click on the tools menu and choose adjust...
the settings are in the drop down box...
In this way you won't have to meddle with the registry...

amazing!
Hey kta, I tried it out, just wanna let you know the results are amazing!
I had given up on this camera (and just about the phone as a whole) especially when my friend checked with someone working with doopod said that this is a hardware (lens) problem so we can't really do anything about it. But you did it!
Just wanted to let you know I really appreciate the fix!

Fantastic! I applied it and it is much better
Thank you VERY much

If you don't change them in the registry, the settings will reset themselves once you close (not minimise) the camera application or when you change the ambience from auto to night, etc.
The only permanent fix is to change them in the registry. Here's a link to a free registry editor: http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=31
PS: To all those that showed their appreciation: You're welcome

Maybe I missed something but I still do not find these attributes in the registry.........see my earlier post and screen shot.
kta, I agree that to get the change to stick its a registry change but in my registry I don't have these parameters. Is this because I have the older ExtROM ?

Grunt,
I'm not sure why you don't have these in your registry. I don't think it's the ROM version. I would try changing the settings in the camera settings and see if they get created. If that doesn't work I would try entering them manually as DWORD values base decimal (Brightness, Contrast, Hue, Saturation, Sharpness).
Why aren't you upgrading to 1.11 anyway?

for mini?
hi does this registry tweak work for mini also? if yes, Brightness - 5
is it refering to brightness = 5? sorry saw someone on the above mention post trying to go lower than 0...thanks

Just to clarify:
Camera settings (to remove snow effect):
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/HTC/Camera/AppDefSettings/General
Set Contrast to 5, Brightness to 6, Saturation to 3, Hue to 5,Sharpness to 3

HTC Magician Camera Profile::Testers needed

Hey guys,
I was wondering if you might give me some suggestion and comments about the application i just developed, well its my first ever developed app for smart device so i hope u don't mind. For HTC magicians only i guess unless other models have the same registry structure for the camera settings.
Features
-Save profiles
This application allows you to save settings and name it as profiles, thanks to kta and deuxani for providing some configs which i made as preset in the meantime.
-More camera settings
-and some more...
Just try it out
Known issues:
-Profile has no immediate effect
If any of u guys know how to make immediate effect after modifying registry please let me know, afaik i had to do a soft boot or just click on "reset" on the camera settings.
-Error if click 'Apply' on empty profile
Well, haven't put any exceptions handlers just yet, need to know more bugs first
Need comments about ease of use and user interface also bugs if u happen to find any. I try to make it as simple as i can. Thanks all.
::adit
Great!
Just installed it! Works fine!
Excellent, maybe a little addon after you select a profile directy start the camera ( this is the reason you start it )
Keep up the good work!
First Thanks on this Idea!!
Will test further and report back.
What do i wrong ? It doenst do anything for me except show me the frame rate ... :?
Thats what i meant by "immediate effect" which i haven't figure out yet, you must go to the camera settings and adjust and click on "reset" because I was able to change the registry for both settings (ie. Contrast and Contrast_User) but i think the camera needs something so it can "refreash" and get the values from the registry which also does on the ambience. I hope someone can figure this out..
::adit
great job adit
if you are looking for more advice about developing this plug-in.. I suggest to post this topic in the Development and Hacking forum.
keep up the good work
Nice job, and its working.
I've tried this app and i have a problem:
in the registry i have 2 values for each parameter (for example brightness and brightness user)
The software change the non user value but if i softreset my Magician user's values becomes default. I must open configuration and reset values and they becomes like the non user values.
Is there another solution?
I've also tryed to delete user keys but after a SR they are again.
Sorry for my english

The application changes both default and user (default ie brightness, and user ie brightness_user). I did this to make sure that even after a soft reset since the effect does not change immediately, the values are not changed. If you find it inconvenient, i'll rebuild the application so it changes only the xxx_user (ie xxx=brightness)? For the time being, if you want to reset the settings to the original state change all values in the non user to '5'.

What to do with a camera?

I have recently bought an Alpine , and am really dissapointed. I had a Himalaya and a Blue Angel before and the quality of the photos was better despit the lower resolution!
Is it hardware or software's fault?
If it's software, is it possible to install a different camera application and just add it to start-up instead of the original one?
thx
i agree with you....
some tips
The default settings for the camera on XDA2 is much better than on 2i. You get much nicer looking pics if you change the settings via 'adjust' under tools when the camera is on capture mode to:
Contrast 3
Brightness 3
Aturation 6
Hue 5
sharpness 5
(If anyone knows where the defaults are stored, please shout up, as you lose the new settings if you have to do a soft reset)
You will find that sometimes you need to manually set the light colour (daylight, incandescent etc) rather than leave it set on auto. Changing this setting should not affect the brightness of the captured image - just the colour, but it often does. Also the quality seems to be really poor unless you choose XL for the capture size.
Under reasonable lighting conditions the above settings will produce BETTER pics than the earlier lower res camera, but this is not true in low light conditions - the new one produces very grainy (noisy) images. You can process them to remove most of this but generally it needs a better quality image processing program than you can run on the XDA.
The other big problem I have found is that the new camera finds great difficulty in working out what the exposure should be - sometimes a very ordinary scene is hopelessly overexposed. However, you can fool the camera by briefly pointing it at the sky before framing and snapping your shot.
This carry-on really should not be necessary, and someone ought to produce a software fix.
Thanks a lot, I'll give it a go
Another very annoying problem the XDAIIi camera suffers from is the location of which the images and movies are stored,
You will notice that even though you can change the location (Main memory or SD memory) you CANNOT choose the directory.
So you end up with the camera choosing the location, it does this by using the year,month,day-0001 and so on .....
You end up with loads of numbered folers when you would like all images to be put into "My Pictures" for example.

Yes this is really frustrating. I just tried changing the prefix string for this automated file naming. I tried putting /my documents/ in front of the default string but it wouldn't accept it. There must be somewhere in some config file that tells the camera to create a new directory off the root directory. Presumably that could be altered to make it created off the My pics sub directory.
i'd love if someone tell us about this cammera problem, is there some software which will change the default one or something?
those options helped alot tho.
Contrast 3
Brightness 3
Aturation 6
Hue 5
sharpness 5
cheers, thanks mike!
There's a registry hack that keeps the default camera settings to your own adjustments even after a soft reset.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/HTC/Camera/AppDefSettings/General
Set Contrast = 3, Brightness = 3, Saturation = 6, Hue = 5,Sharpness = 5
Hope this helps
Heeey! It works! Thanks a lot. Well done!
I upgraded my radio yesterday, and those settings were saved even after hard reset!!!That's cool!
same i feel
I feel BA is better than Alpine in speed, steady, camera, Power and many thing. I am sorry for to sell my PDA2K and buy PDA2. Anybody feel sorrow?
...
my brother have BA, I think that pda2k better than my 2020i...pda2k working faster ...but,i'm buy two weeks later this device, and very glad.

Hello, I'm new here and in the matter, so I have to beg your patience.
How do I change the Registry entrance? I have PHM Registry Editor.
Thanks in advance.
Aan.
Just find the right key according to the instructions and then change it accordingly.

Thanks for the prompt reply. However, and using the PHM, I'm asked to enter a "New Key", or "New: String Value; Binary VAlue; DWORD Value; Multi-String Value; Expandable String Value". Which one?
All the camera issues with the 2i were caused by an "update" that the phone companies placed in the extended ROMs. Once this is removed, the problem goes away.
If you want the new extended rom with this "update" removed have a look for a link titled "camera quality sorted?" or something like that.

Forgive my lack of basic knowledge but how do you edit the registry on the wm phone?
aha never mind, I figured it out, you need to get a registry editor and install it.
Very useful topic.
Nice, thank you!
Why do they keep them hidden like that??

hehe some more tipps and tricks you can find on pocketpc.ch
German Version (Original): http://www.pocketpc.ch/htc-touch-hd/44641-htc-touch-hd-tipps-tricks-tweaks.html
English Version (Google Translate): http://translate.google.com/transla...icks-tweaks.html&hl=de&ie=UTF-8&sl=auto&tl=en
nice but what does it do
What does Video Share mode do? Seems like a 4:3 video capture mode.
What I would like to see is a way to capture bigger vids with better quality, even if it meant much bigger file sizes... because i can just pull them off and encode them on pc...
Ideas?
Also whats GPS photo...

Using a similar method are we able to change to landscape in pocket word. I don't know if I have missed something but landscape word is an absolute must for me as it reduces scrolling etc.
If you can help I would appreciate it.

I'm having a small problem with the screen responses on my phone. I just went into the registry and made some changes to enable clear type in Landscape mode....and well...for some reason now....the 'ok' or 'x' tht appears on the top right hand side of the screen in landscape (right handed landscape mode) is unresponsive. It wont acknowledge any taps with the stylus or finger. I tried a soft reset and nothing. So now my phone is stuck in landscape mode...and it wont budge. Any ideas?

After that change, you off course need to reset to take effect. Once done, it would stay the way you want it.
Cheers.
I logged into the Windows live (MSN) program that comes with the phone as standard.
When logged out, i looked in my contacts phonebook and all my Windows live contacts were there! And when i took them away and logged into Windows live again, they were gone, probably for taking them away from the contacts phonebook in the phone..
Very irritating!
Now, is there some setting so i can make them not to show in the contacts phonebook?
I mean, as you can do with the SIM contacts?

Adjusting Contrast

Hi, I just bought a new set of HTC touch diamond, however as compared to the old one. The contrast of this new set seems really weird.
The black and dark tones are like grey even when i set the brightness of the screen to a much lower level. So i believe it is the contrast of this set that went wrong.
Is there anything I can do about it? or any problem that adjusts the contrast of the screen?
-Update-
After some google and meddling, I realised Windows Mobile actually came with this contrast applet that is hidden by phone manufacturers.
After some research I manage to make the contrast applet appear in the settings.
1) Using Registry Editor, rename Redirect to xRedirect in HKLM/Control Panel/contrast
2) If Redirect is unchange instead there is an added xRedirect. Delete the Redirect
3) Restart your HTC and Contrast should now appear
4) ???? However I am unable to change the contrast as the settings seems to be fix. ??
Does anyone know how i should continue from here? Do i have to modify the default in HKLM/Control Panel/contrast
Hope this prove to be useful for ppl who wish to adjust their contrast as well.
Hope someone can help me out. Thank you
Anyone know how i should continue from here? Do I have to modify
yes you can let the contrast cpl show, however that doesn't work on the diamond.
The contrast settings doesn't affect the screen
From what I have read in your post this isn't a software but an hardware fault
It would be wise to RMA the device.
Regards,
EqX
Thank you for your Reply and clarifications.
So you mean the contrast problem is actually a screen problem?
Do you have any idea what would they do if I send my phone for RMA? Would they simply change the screen or change the entire phone for me?
Btw I live in Singapore. Heard they have really bad HTC care services in over here.
You're not alone... We are many people who want to find a way to increase the contrast on our Diamonds... It would really make our displays great if we could because it's a conrast issue, no doubt.
Been playing aroung with Resco Photo Viewer and slighty increasing the contrast when viewing photos makes them look awesome!!!
I'm afraid the default display contrast is hardcoded and cannot be changed by software but hopefully I'm wrong. Maybe it can be reached by some hidden menu???
owziee said:

yes, then we can go search for gold under the forgotten mountain...
it wont be hard-coded, it will be set by some software somewhere, just not apparent to the user.
I have actually got the contrast applet to show in my touch Diamond to show in the settings already. Refer to the first post on how to do it.
The problem now is even with the contrast setting show. I am unable to adjust the contrast sliding the control. It basically does no changes to the diamond..
and beyond that.. It is beyond my knowledge and expertise to do anything else. Thinking about RMAing my Diamond. But wondering how would they go about helping me? Change a new phone.. Doubt so..

Clear Type in Landscape enabled

Just found this and it works (by playing with the registry)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings
Change OffOnRotation value to 0
soft reset
you need a registry editor to get this done, I used Resco Registry Editor
might be a bit of a noob question, but what does cleartype look like?
a screenie would do justice
its the smoothing of the fonts so they wont look rough on the edges, you can see the difference in portrait mode
Start>System>Screen>Cleartype , if the box is checked uncheck it to see how distorted the edges of the fonts look, if not, enable it to see how smooth they look
Any one check this solution?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings
Change OffOnRotation value to 0
the default is 1, meaning the cleartype is off by default on rotation, simply changeit to 0
only those with the knowledge of binary would know this would fix the clear type on landscape. its not that hard to understand either, its just simple common sense by reading and understanding for those who speak english lol
screenies here for proof
you can do the same thing with Advanced Config
okkk, never heard of that, i will check it out asap, thanks for the tip
ahh, looking good =].

WTF, I thought clear type works for both portrait and landscape... WTF was MS thinking? It's like offering an option to give you a prosthetic hands with no fingers.
awesome, thanks for this! i didnt even notice it got disabled till yesterday.
