I think my camera is broken - Touch HD General

i did the registry tweaks to enable the extra shooting modes. now when i go to start up the camera mode i get the following message:
unable to initialize camera. failed to set up the camera device.

i then went back into registry editor and put the settings back to their default settings. still won't start up
am i going to have to do ANOTHER hard reset? i only got the phone a week ago... seems like i hard reset every day!

can i reinstall the camera software. is there a .cab file available anywhere?

It's best to hard reset it clean !!

was just about to hard reset then i thought to check advanced config. i had changed some camera settings so i put them back to default now it works perfectly!

I had the same trouble, "unable to initialize camera" and tried the same thing. I put all the camera settings as default ones at the Advanced Configuration Tools. Still I can't make it work.
Would you give me any advice?
Thanks.

in situations like yours, it's probably best to hard reset. not fun, but at least you know your camera is working like it should.

A hard reset is not needed,
just a soft re-set would have done,
I have already posted about this issue,
The reason for that message is that the camera was still working in background you just didn't see it.
The camera does not correctly shut down when using the camera tweaks which is why they were turned off by default.
If you look at the home screen occasionally you'll still be able to see the background moving as the camera is active behind.
It also looks like artifacts on screen.
You can only replicate the issue if you take a picture in either sport or burst mode, on some phones.

Thank you, cortez.i. I followed your advice and made a hard reset, but somehow, in my case, still the camera didn't work. It turned out to be a hard ware problem and I asked and was given another new touch diamond today.
I had thought that it would be a good chance to learn some registry settings but for your advice, I could make a right decision! Thank you a lot!!!

Camera button not working - Cannot find '' (or one of ...

I recently unlocked a friend's XDA II (the profile details are for this XDA) kudos on a good piece of work.
Thing is, the camera has stopped working.
When the camera button on the side is pressed, the following error message is generated:
Code:
"Cannot find '' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and all the required libraries are available"
I don't have much experience with the XDA II so don't know where to look to see if the camera software is installed, or how to re-install it. There are no obvious mentions of the camera in the settings tabs or the like.
Any help or advice on this issue would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Camera button
The camera button points to "\windows\Camera.exe"
If you don't have that program the camera will not work.
You sould also check the button settings in the settins menu.

How I got camera to work
The problem came to light when ikki suggested I look for the executable, of course it wasn't there. I then realised the cause for this was that I had cancelled the initial setup apps that ran after the hard reboot so that I could get to the unlocking screen quickly.
It turns out these initial tasks never try ro run again, so the device hadn't had all the bells and whistles strapped on. A hard reset and letting the user proceed through the intial setup solved this problem and installed the custom O2 settings.
Thanks for the help.

How do you switch off the camera shutter sound??

how do you switch off the camera shutter sound??
It's kinda annoying from time to time. And it is pretty loud, which makes the phone useless inside my lecture room when i want to take a photo of the lecture notes...
Open the camera, tap the screen once to show the toolbar icon, tap it to open the toolbar and tap the gearwheel for settings.
Page 3 sets the shutter sound. Whatever you choose will be remembered.
I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but have you considered looking through the options menu?
The problem is in my page 3, the options are:
Shoot option
Image properties
Effect
Metering mode
No idea then, strange that the option is missing from your device as it's (the option) in the official manual for the Touch HD. I'm using Dutty's 2.6 ROM which has a different camera version to the Stock ROM, I'm pretty sure the option was there on my device before I got the flashing bug, though.
do you have stock rom? my page 3 has shutter sound. metering mode is on page 4

mute your phone , especially during lectures
EDIT:
did not know it's AU version, try overwriting the shutter sound snap.wav in the windows folder
or in the registry "HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Common\SourceOfSnapSound"
or replace the camera EXE form a different WWE ROM
I swear, some people just want us to feed them.
Not even mute can silent the camera shutter.... This is so annoying.....
Shutter sound cannot be turned off on aussie version
No need to be nasty guys. The posters problem is that they have purchased an Australian version of the blackstone (I have the same phone). It turns out that Telstra in all their wisdom have ensured that the camera sound cannot be turned off (this is something they are doing with all phones now to stop people taking 'up skirt' pics and such). So even if you turn the sound off, if you go into the camera and use it, the phone sound is turned back on. People have tried to change the registry values for the camera sound and this does nothing. Someone has also managed to find the sound file (which cannot be deleted) and replaced it with another sound, but on soft reset the sound is replaced back to original loud annoying and very embarrassing sound.
So if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this (without flashing the rom), there will be a lot of appriciative people out there.

Fixed for you
LOL, well I am both of those things, but don't use a phone camera for either
Problem Solved
First things first:
It turns out that in the aussie version the source sound referred to in the registry (snap.wav) does not exist.
There is also other sounds within the windows folder that were part of the ROM (ShutterSound.wav and TimerSound.wav) but changing these had no effect on the camera sound.
Solution:
I managed to find the source of the sounds within a resource file and have successfully changed them to blank waves. The only issue with this work around is that the phone sound is still switched back on (even from silent mode) and stays on until ~20 seconds after shutting down the camera down, this means that if someone calls, emails or sends a message the corresponding sounds will be made. This could be a problem in lectures etc, but I can't think of any other work around. I'll work out how to make a cab for the change and post it here, in the meantime if anyone wants to know how to manually do the change let me know and i'll post it.
The simplest option for this issue would be for Aussie guys to flash a non-Oz ROM and be done with it. Flashing some of the newer ROMs has many benefits, not least of which would be the ability to mute the shutter sound from within the camera app itself.
To my mind, a much more elegant solution.
Camera Sound Silencer
Flashing the phone is obviously the cleanest method, but this option is not available to everyone. I have recommended the HD to people who have had their work purchase it for them (in such cases flashing is not an option). I also know people who will never flash their ROM, and yet want a quick and reversible solution for their problem. I won't be flashing my ROM until the shipped version of mine is available (I got caught with a warranty issue and a different ROM version before). I'm sure this won't happen until I extract my own so flashing isn't the answer for everyone.
Anyway attached is the CAB for silencing the sound. This works for the Australian ROM (not sure about other countries, so if anyone else tries it, let me know if it works). You first need to install the sdkcerts (this ensures you don't get asked if you trust the source each time you start the camera), then install the CamSilencer(AU).
REMEMBER that each time you use the camera the sound on the phone gets switched on, so if you are worried about phone calls etc, then make your alerts blank sounds too.
Any feedback would be good!
AaronC1978 - Any chance of getting a version of this that will work for the Touch Diamond? I've got a Telstra Touch Diamond that's a work phone, so flashing it is out, as you rightly mentioned above.
I've tried installing both your CABs here, but it's broken my camera. When I go into the camera, it works for about 2 seconds (and I can see the picture from the camera on the display), then the display goes black, and I get an error pop up "Failed to initialize camera. Failure to initialize the camera device.". I uninstalled the CamSilencer CAB, and it's back working again now, but (of course) I still have the obnoxious shutter sound.
Having the other phone sounds turned on after I've been using the camera isn't a problem to me, as I very rarely have the phone on silent anyway, and especially not if I'm taking a picture. I just want to get rid of that horrible loud camera sound! There's one thread in the Diamond section from last year that's gone unanswered and abandoned - help me Obi Wan Kenobi - you're my only hope!
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!

Hey Matto,
I'm no Obi Wan, two weeks ago I knew I could install cabs onto my phone, but that was the extent of it!!
Assuming that a similar file is modified on the diamond I should be able to fix it for you. But first you are going to have to get the file for me. If you don't have it installed you will need to use total commander to be able to get the file:
http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
Install that on your phone and open it. In the total commander window, open up the windows folder and scroll down to a file called 'cameraRC.dll' and click it. Now click 'copy/move' in the file menu at the bottom of the screen and click click 'tree' on the popup and select eg your storage card. Now click copy on the popup.
Now connect your phone to your pc and move the cameraRC.dll file onto your pc (if you cant see it, make sure that you have "show hidden files" enabled on your file options on your computer).
When that's done, upload the file here and i'll take a look for you.
PM me if you have any trouble.
Hi Aaron,
Sounds like I'm about 2 weeks behind you then! I've uploaded and attached the CameraRC.dll file to this post here as per your beaut instructions - if you wouldn't mind taking a look, I'd really appreciate it. I'm sure all the other Aus TD users would as well!
Thanks for all your help - this has been driving me mad!
Thanks!
Matto
Hey Matto,
I'm glad the instructions were clear, hopefully this CAB fixes the Diamond sound. You still need to make sure you have the sdkcerts file installed first. Also make sure you have uninstalled the HD CamSilencer (which I'm sure you have since it muffed up your camera). Don't stress if this doesn't work, because it is the right file and it just means I've done something wrong on my end (can't test if it works). Let me know how it goes.
Aaron
Hey Aaron,
You're a legend, my friend! Works a treat. Takes away both the focus zoom/lock sound, as well as the obnoxious shutter sound! I already had the sdkcerts installed from the previous attempt, and had uninstalled the old HDCamSilencer.CAB the other day, as you had guessed. Copied the new one across, installed it, rebooted the phone and voila - no sound!
Thanks very much for your help with this - very much appreciated! I'll let you announce it to the guys over in the TD forums, since it's your work and only right that you should get the kudos for it! I'm sure all the Telstra TD users will be very appreciative!
Again, thanks very much for your time and effort into doing this for me! Well done!
Thanks!
Matto

Photos without colour

Hi Forum!
I received my HD2 today. Everything fine sofar, I installed BSB Tweaks and some apps.
Now my camera only makes b/w pictures and videos.
The App show color while starting, but after 1 sec. the preview (and the pictures) get grayscale.
Does ne1 have a clue?
JoC
Open teh camera, click the menu/settings icon (a cog wheel), click advanced, go to page 3, effect, and see if it is set to grayscale.
Thank you for the fast reply.
I first checked that.
I even switched to grayscale, sepia and back, but no change.

....or start all over again (as you've only just got the phone it shouldn't take long to re-install the apps you want) by doing a hard reset then add one app and test the camera still takes colour pictures before installing the next app and so on until you find which one upsets the camera (you might want to check other things you need and not just the camera in case something else is affected too..) finally,if you do find which program causes the problem, obviously don't use it , but make sure you let the program developer know of the bug so he/she can try to fix it (you never know, they may already be aware of the bug and have a fixed version ready for you to try out)
Hello,
I installed a complete new image (Artemis_v29b_GER_202_23518) and did hard resets.
Camera ist still taking grayscale photographs. When I start the application, there ist color for the first 1 or 2 seconds.
Solved
Hello,
After installing the other image, I restored a backup from Sprite Backup.
When I did not restore the backup after a hard reset, the color is there.
Tank you.

[Q] Remove Camera Click Sound

Heya, new to fiddling with root files but really wanted to get rid of camera click. Followed advice about renaming camera_click.ogg in terminal Emulator using:
ADB shell
SU
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
mv /system/media/audio/ui/camer_click.ogg /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg.old
(source: www droidforums net/forum/droid-hacks/23107-droid-remove-camera-click-shutter-sound html) - sorry new poster not allowed to post url
Now have issue when open stock camera and vid in Motorola Atrix (gingerbread 2.2.2) where:
1) camera opens, but have lost all previous images.
2) camera takes silent shot
3) camera 'locks' open and can't return to 'desktop', can't view image taken,, can't access menus etc
Basically camera is stuffed...
is there a solution, is there code to go back and follow some of the other advice in here etc?

To anyone else, i'd appreciate any help or advice. As i mentioned i'd just like to undo what i've done usibg script i found on another forum. looking forward, hopefully, to hearing from you!
have you tried to add the following line to local.prop file located in /data?
ro.camera.sound.forced=0
If you don't have the file then just create the file and add it, otherwise append it to the end of file.
File permission is: 0644
Good Luck
I never heard of adding ".old" on the end of the file. I always add ".bak", then reboot. Works everytime.

I was on my phone at the time (tiny keyboard) and was trying to succinctly say that if you open the camera app and touch "settings", there is an option to quiet the click.
When I first read your OP I didn't notice that you identified Gingerbread as v2.2. You are confused. v2.2 was named Froyo (frozen yogurt). Gingerbread is v2.3. My answer relates to Gingerbread. If you are actually on Froyo, I don't remember if the setting was available on that release.
So, in Gingerbread silencing the camera is a setting and there is no point performing internal surgery.
Yep, ok, noob blunder. Novice blunder, amatuer, beginner whatever blunder. Glad you all got a giggle, and thanks for pointing it out. I was told at the shop it's Gingerbread. The About phone states 2.2. So, if that makes it Froyo then great, i've learnt the basics today. Thanks for your help again!
Well re- the settings, froyo or otherwise, yes there is a setting to turn sound off. You turn it to off and it still makes the click sound, volume can't be altered. Hence diving off the deep end and into something i know very little about - internal surgery!!
Live4nyy - is there a simple way to rename to .bak (you see my level of expertise here - none! - in asking).. forward some script for me at all?
or
CSharpHeaven that sounds gr8... any way to explain to a complete novice how to do that?
I thank anyone who sticks with me to reply after this MUCHLY as you know you are dealing with a friking novice
Seriously....why would you want to silence your camera again?
Do you have root? If yes, then you can just use any file manager that has root access, ES File Explorer works I've heard, and just go to the folder where the sound file is (/system/media/audio/ui) and just select to rename the file and add ".bak".

Ok, got 'root explorer'... so simple just to enable R/W and rename.. Thanks. Changed to .bak . Seems better, actually appears to take photos and has more functionality than after i ran that script... but
I don't know what that original script did. Here's what using my built in camera is like:
1) Turn Camera on. Opens, appears normal. Take photo fine. Thumbnail (link to camera roll) in bottom corner as per usual, which disappears after a few seconds as per normal.
So far so good.
2) After taking another photo decide to click on thumbnail to open camera roll. Camera Roll opens but says there are no pictures to display. return (via 'back' menu button) and the thumbnail of the images is there again. Ok, weird.
3) Try take another photo... nothing happens, wait a few seconds and camera switches off back to ;desktop'. Try open camera again but no dice. In fact all phone functionality gone, frozen, locked up, including menu buttons below screen. Put phone to sleep by pressing rear button briefly. Press rear button again to awake. Unlock swipe is slow to respond (a few seconds) and then back to main desktop screen. Can once again open camera. Repeat process from dot point 1).
4) next time go to camera roll, this time locks up on camera roll (which has no images to display again). Sleep and wake up camera, slow swipe unlock, can take photos again when open camera. repeat step 1 - 3 again!
5) Sleep, wake up phone. This time straight to gallery instead of camera. Gets stuck telling me it's loading media files. Frozen.
6) sleep- wake - slow swipe unlock. This time to video. Same thing as camera. Frozen.
I could go on.... but im sure the idea is clear!
used root explorer to simply remane camera_click.ogg to original name. Same as above
Tried camera zoom fx app incase it was the built in camera app. This won;t even open - well, it starts but then says i need to force it to close.
Does this need a factory reset??!

Had a quick look in the internal storage DCIM folder..All files appear to be there. The one vid file has a play button icon. The .jpg's have the android robot icon. I don't know what was there before. Trying to open the files from here freezes the phone.....
Connecting usb and viewing dcim shows that any images taken since the change to camera_click.ogg appear unknown thumnails in the PC explorer..and can't be opened on the PC via USB connection or when stored locally on the PC itself 'can't display this is an empty file' . This is probably all irrelevant but might be useful to someone, somehere...
Have just noticed today that battery was going flat very quickly. Realised since rooting and using that script (can't decipher which) that location services are no longer working, hence apps that provide location services are continually searching and draining battery. Yes i can turn those services off, but wouldrather resolve the issue!
I'm thinking more and more like factory reset Any thoughts?
Just factory reset. Used Astro File Manager to backup apps before hand, which for interest worked well (although did have to reinstall one by one). Of course Appstore keeps a lsit of purchased apps as a failsafe for thsoe.
After rest, reinstalled apps, including Root Manager. Simply followed Live4NYY's advice, renamed camera_click.ogg to camera_click.ogg.bak
All issues described earlier resolved. Camera functional and silent.
just goes to show sometimes you should ask noob questions. I tried following instructions on a post to avoid annoying the experts with a mum-mum dad-dad question! Anyhow, thnaks to live4nyy for taking the time.

The ".bak" just stands for "backup". It will essentially hide any file/app and keep it from running (which in turn frees up RAM). So if you had a system app that you don't use you can just add ".bak" and it would be the same as freezing it. It's much safer than deleting files and apps as you can always go back and remove the extension (and reboot) and it will be back to normal.

Camera settings get reset after phone is restarted

I think I found a bug in the camera app of the G4.
I set the Video recording quality to UHD on the back camera and the Front Facing camera to 4:3 for images to get the maximum quality from the camera.
After some time, the settings always go back to the HD and 16:9 settings.
+1 not only the quality, the grids will be turned off... simply all settings are be reverted back to default for the camera app.... im current on V10c. camera app version is 4.52.34.6.....
"camera to 4:3 for images to get the maximum quality from the camera."
Thanks I didn't know that
I too have the same problem. Vodafone branded version 10b
What I did to solve that is to disable quick shot in Shortcut key. I haven't had my settings deleted since I did that 2 weeks ago.
I do experience the same problem. It's quite annoying. I will disable shortcut key and see how that works.
On the other hand, the native resolution for Sony Exmor IMX234 (the sensor for the back camera) is 5312 x 2988, that is 16:9 aspect ratio. If you set it to 4:3 the images will be cropped. Try to take photos in both settings and compare. So if you want the best quality leave aspect ratio at 16:9.

Mine forgets the settings (GPS tagging pop up, grids, 4:3) even without reboot. I'll have my settings done, and later in the day, it will have forgotten them already. I'm surprised that none of the reviewers before release didn't experience or mention this bug.
Coincidentally enough, my previous phone (Galaxy S4) also forgot many of its settings day to day. Hmmm.
I've resorted to using the app "A Better Camera" which is mostly better featured, but slow slow slow to snap.

My settings get reset to default every time I change the storage from phone to SD card, when I plug my phone into the computer under MTP settings, or when I use USB debugging.

Did you guys try my suggestion? It worked for me. Someone even said to disable Shortcut Key but I only disabled the quick shot inside shortcut key:
"What I did to solve that is to disable quick shot in Shortcut key. I haven't had my settings deleted since I did that 2 weeks ago."

I haven't tried it yet. I've got so used to ABC's features, I might just stick with it.
Thanks anyway, I'll try your workaround if ever I return to the stock camera.
Tried it, even tried turning shortcut key completely off. Doesn't seem to work.

It works in my case, turning the shortcut key option completely off i mean...
But i really hate to turn it off because it's a great feature if you ask me...
I hope LG will fix that bug asap! :fingers-crossed:
Same problem here! Gets reset after each reboot. LG G4 H815 V10d-EUR-XX. I found this problem reported as early as LG G2. Doesn't it give you a warm, fuzzy and secure feeling when the software of your mobile device is just copy and pasted for years without anyone even bother to take a look?
I don't know why, but my settings don't restart any more when rebboting my G4... What i did u ask?
Well, nothing special actually... I turned off the shortcut key, rebooted, opened the camera app, set
all of the options, turned on the shortcut key, rebooted and that's it...
