Tips & tricks - Palm Treo Pro

I've posted a bunch of tips & tricks already here: www.TreoProTricks.com
If you have any more, you can post them here in this thread.

This is a great blog. Please keep up the good work!

I concur. Great site for Palm Treo.

Very valuable, I looked all over on how to hard reset and your website was the one for me!

HI
Hi,
I Just Bought The Treo Pro. This Form Factor Is The One I Like Tje Most.
I Confirm The Bootloader Is The Same As Shown On The Link.
Just Two Question:
1) Is There Any Way Of Getting Off The Short Key Sound, When Dialing. Is Really Anoying, And Still Havent Found Any Option Ot Do So.
2) I've Tried Both Softick Card Export (i Have The Registered Version) And Wm Storage And There Is No Way I Can Use My Treo Pro As An External Hard Drive (the Pc Gets Stucked), I Have Win Xp On My Pc And Win Vista On My Notebook, And In Neither Both It Works. Do You Know Any Possible Soution.
Regads,
Agustin.

I logged a support request with Softick and they said they are working on compatibility for the treo pro.

You know what would be really cool?
If we were able to use the "PC Setup" app for similar functionality.

You need to modify the registry. It's possible to delete the keys that call the tones for the keys. I found this on another forum and used it to good effect. I can't find the details though. I'll repost if I find the specific link.

New to XDA EXEC

Hello one and all.
I have been looking at this forum for about 1 week and i'm still none the wiser. This may be because I have no idea what im doing and I am a little worried about making rom changes as I have no experinace of this.
I have a 02 exec. Which i am happy with but its a bit slower than I thought it would be. The phone seams to mess around when answering.
I have booted it up as normal on the basic setting.
A few questions that I have :-
What is the best setting to boot up on basic or corperate with the code ?
What reg changes are critical to boost performance ?
Any Software that I should get for the Xda ?
VGA settings do I need to change them ? What effect does it have.
Any advise would be good. If it could be given in a format my 2 year old could understand that would be good for me.
Thank you in advance
You'll find a wealth of information on each of your questions by browsing & searching the posts already on this forum.
thanks moandal that's why I posted.
1 post says basic setup another say corporate. 1 post says hack this that and the other. another says not to.
I'm new to pocket pc.
these forums do not make it clear what is best.
example radio version 1.06 or 1.08 at least 3 posts on here saying each one is better than the other. I have no idea.
all I was asking for is some guidance as to which set up has worked best for people.
@CRJL you've one up on me mate - I did not even know this thing had two modes!!!
BTW, why is that? Someone mentioned somewhere a corporate password - how to enter this & why would I want it.
BTW CRJL, I agree with you, these little devices are very confusing, espcially because the front end software (WM5) is soooooooo labourious!
Andy
when you hard reset the thing. after all the rom stuff loads up it gives you the choice of basic set up or corporate. it selects basic automatically after 20secs.
if you tell it corporate then you have to put the code 0506 in. this the uninstalls some stuff off the exec. you loose mms and all the gprs an 3g settings for conecting to the net. (i don't know what else it does) some of the people in the forums say it makes the exec faster. I could not really notice any difference.
you loose a few applications as well.
until I learn more I'm staying in basic.
I find these forums are for more advanced users so the simple questions tend to get missed. (im talking abot my first post) still not had a reply answering my questions

for this you should first make a hard reset (carefull, with hard reset you will loose all data!) by pressing both app buttons and reset at the same time.
When it starts up, after the installation countdown shows up you should make a reset to stop the automatic setup.
Now you have a machine, which is only basic setup. See how you like the things in there.
After you now enough about this, you can make same hard reset again and start the corporate setup. Then see, how you like this setup.
After this do same with basic setup.
In total you have then an idea, what you can have with the 3 different setups.
Now you can decide, which of the 3 setups you want to start with. After this, you should read the posts about Extended Rom, how to unlock it, which programs are in there etc. Then you get an idea for example how to install some software in the basic setup.
Also, you can add some programs from other Roms. For example I have an MDA Pro and I added the I-Mate Backgammon game to my setup.
Try out and see what customizations you want and need, which you do not want.

Basically, this does not really make difference. Forget about reg changes. Performance depends on running programs and setup - see above.
As far as I know, o2 installs some app in the basic setup, which makes the device slow. As I never tried o2 rom, I do not know, if this is true.

read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=31697
here also I recommend to try out the software and just keep the ones you like.
In total I would recommend you to create a directory on your PC where you put all the setup and cab files, which you want to have in your final setup. After trying out all, make a hard reset again and install the files from this directory. This prevents any junks to be left behind from your previous tries.

I think, you get more problems than it helps. Some programs appear too small on the screen. And when you make a Romupdate this does not work anymore.
I recommend not to install any VGA Patches. Instead just set the text size to more small and search in this forum for some registry hacks to change system font etc. and see if you like it, when the font is more small (this is good for Opera or PIE as you can view complete page!)
Nice reply, thanks mate!

Andy (thicky wicky Blacky wacky Adder)
thank you. I will give the 3 setups a go. I did read that if you soft reset before the counter that video calling does not work.
will give it a go and see what happens I'm sure there will be a cab file on here to sort it out.
anyone wishing to add any pearls of wisdom fee free. I'm learning more and more all the time.
app buttons: the buttons on the keyboard, which have changing functions. these functions are shown at the bottom of the screen. These buttons can be found to the right and left of the red and green call buttons on the keyboard.
about video calling: yes, this feature is installed after you switch on first your device. it is activated with one cab file. If you can find out which cab file this is, you can install it manually in the basic setup.

HTC home screen for WM 5

I keep seeing the fancy looking home screen plug in for WM 6. Is there a similar home screen plug in from HTC for WM 5 that I can use with my 8525? If so how can I get it? Is it free? How do I install it? And I do not know how to do what you guys refer to as reg hacks - so should I just stay away from the topic? I did do some searching and everything comes up under WM 6, or it is not clear if it is WM 5 or 6. Also, I do not want to do anything that will void my warranty - will it? I appreciate any responses. Sorry for being the worlds biggest newbie.
I can't tell you too much about the HTC Home Screen because of I am not using it!
However, 'hacking' the registry will not avoid your warranty! In case you do something wrong: simply hard reset your device and everything should be back to normal and factory default!
If you want to be able to access your PDA's registry you will need a REGISTRY EDITOR installed on your PDA. There are plenty good ones out there! I personally use RESCO EXPLORER 2007 + REGISTRY ADD-IN. You can find a trial version here: http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/default.asp
To get your HOME SCREEN fancy looking: even here you can find lots of stuff without having to hack anything! One really good application which changes not only your TODAY SCREEN is SPB MOBILE SHELL - more info here: http://spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?en
Both application I mentioned above are commercial products but trial versions are available as free download! There are hundreds of free application all over the web which will help you to personalize your PDA - just search Google and see what it comes up with!
Hope that helps?
Thanks. A couple quick questions. I can not tell if it is free or not. It has me agree to a bunch of legal stuff, but I do not see any mention of it being free/trial or what a charge would be? Do I do the CAB file?

Its free, dont know if it will work on wm5 havent seen a version working yet on wm5. I suggest just reading the forum for the next two weeks or so. After about a good 20 you will nolonger be a noob. At that time I would suggest upgrading to wm6 and you will have no issues getting this on your phone.
Thanks again for the help on this. If there is not a high degree of knowing that will work on WM 5 does anyone of on that will work?

You can do the cab or the exe - what ever you prefer!
The cab file needs to be copied to the PPC, the setup you run directly on your desktop while your PPC is connected via ActiveSync or MDC.
Both programs I mentioned are running fine under Windows Mobile 5. I used them for more than a year on my T-Mobile MDA WM5 and later on my Hermes.

Oh my GOD! Can anyone help me tell me how to mod my Trinity!!

Hi everyone! I own a trinity spv m700 orange white phone. Nothing has been change, the phone is still the same as the day it came package. And I have just witnessed the potential of what my phone can do.

I am still a noob. And I dunno what they are using to do all that on their trinity. I think now is the good time to learn more about my phone and fiddle with it.
I would love and kill to see my trinity work that way. Would any experts out there kindly point me in the right direction. I know there might be alot of work cut out for me. But I am not discouraged.

There's nothing special about it. From what I can see, it has HTC Home installed, Touchflo, HTC Album in landscape mode, Pocket IE in full screen mode, Tom Tom navigation, Office Mobile, Windows Media Player, HTC Audio Manager, HTC Action, nothing special.
As for the speed, it is a medium speed ROM, I'd give it a 6/10.
Most of these apps you will find on the forum.

I've left this question elsewhere, but just in case anyone knows.. is there a piece of software out there with a tweak to stop SIM contacts appearing as well as phone contacts?

Here you go!
After installation, shut down PPC (hold power button for 4 seconds), then soft reset.
Hey Tnyynt.
Thanks, but I think I found a solution by searching....
Schaps Advanced configuration tool (works w/wm6.1.) It has the SIM option and many more cool options (of which I know how to use maybe two!)

x1 profiles ?

what are you guys using for switching profiles ?
i'm looking for a basic profiles app along thelines of ppcprofiles or phoneweaver.
unfortunately, i cannot seem to get phoneweaver to work at all - changing profiles says that the notification has changed but it never does.
is anyone else having this problem or should i blame it all on tf3d ?
thanks in advance
I always use the SPB movile shell and want more profiles too!
you could use spb phone suite. it works but imho it takes up too much place on the today screen.

i did try that and i agree - it's far too complex !
have decided upon a hard reset and retrying phoneweaver :-(

Hi there all,
you could use the Touch HD\ HTC profile manager. It can be found under the Xperia Programs, Panels and tweaks section for the Xperia. I was also looking for the same thing a while back, and found that.
hope that helps!

Can you post a link please? I can't find it and neither can the search engine.
At the moment I use SPB Phone Suite and it integrates into the Mobile Shell panel, if you don't like it on your today screen.
Sorry, my mistake... first post! Link Contained.
Here is the link to the whole thread:

the section your after is under Touch HD utils its called volume control
Regards
Winmowgster
I dont think we are talking about the same thing? ... the volume control is just a new skin for setting the volume right? .. I think with profiles we mean like they are used in nokia phones where depending on your selected profile u ve a different ringtone, volume, message tone etc. ?
cause I d find something like this really useful .. at the moment I cant even figure out how to change the tone of when I receive a text message.
Looking at the Original Poster's request, I suggested a solution, which I thought fits the bill pretty well.
If you want to switch between silent, ring and vibrate then this does the job.
having read the request again, and googling the programs that mrdo tried, i see that i may have made a mistake. :S
The SPB Phone Suite is awesome! Well worth the dosh! Have as many profiles as you want plus automatic time or event based profile switching.

thanks for your input. i do have the touchstone volume control installed and it's very handy but i am looking for something that will allow me to switch ringtones, alerts and volumes at the touch of a button.
after a hard reset and yet another reinstall of my apps, phoneweaver still doesn't work. grrr and double grrr.
mrdo, what is the problem specifically? Is there an error on the device or do you start the application but nothing of significance appears?
I briefly tried phoneweaver and had the latter problem. Couldnt figure out whether it was running or not.
In the end I ended up giving up and going for the Touch HD simple profile manager.
I don't find HTC profile manager in that thread, can u post the direct link?

HTC Touch Pro2 WM6.5 LogMeIn Help

Hi Folks,
1st thread on here.
Just got myself a spank new Touch Pro2. First thing i did before i started installing my apps was to check HTC website for Updates. Sure enough they had a new ROM version and WM6.5 upgrade. Now i have it working exactly how i want except for LogMeIn. I have used LogMeIN on my HP Ipaq for ages but cant get it sorted out on my HTC. Is it an issue with WM6.5 i wonders?
Basically it looks like it wont work with Opera at all. In Internet Explorer I can download and install the RActrlCE.cab file no prob. Looks good, can login to my list of computers, can even get as far as being connected to the required PC but when i click the Remote Control icon all i get is a white screen.
Any suggestions???
Have the same problem would really appreciate any help... Pls.
wm6.5 comes with the newer version of PIE (pocket internet explorer) which is not compatible with the plugin logmein uses for remote desktop. You can try and do a search to the wm6/6.1 PIE cab file. Hope that helps, cuz I was in the same boat.
LogmeIn works on my 6.5-official ROM in IE.

Not in mine!, you can install IE TOGGLE, it let's you use PocketIE (the old version of IE), with that Logmein works
log me in
it took me ages to work this out... i have to use the old version of explorer (downloaded from here somewhere, although the ie switcher might work also) and i need to use 'kfortp' which lets me type in logmein when i am connected, before i could connect but not type anything. crazy
LogMeIn's response
I raised a ticket with LogMeIn about this and got this highly useful reply 2 days later.
"We have discovered an issue when connecting to a LogMeIn computer using a mobile device running Windows Mobile 6.1.4 / 6.5 and IE6 Mobile. Currently, it is NOT possible to connect with these devices due to incompatibility with the plugin.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

If anyone is reading this don't install kfortouchpro. Which i read on another forum was required to get this to work. I don't see what the need for it is. Plus it froze my Touch Pro2 up on the first reboot after install. Luckily i was able to connect to my phone with activesync and uninstall the app to stop my phone from freezing up . Hope this helps someone. As far as Logmein working just use the two files below. Install XDA first, reboot, install IEtoggle, open IEtoggle, switch IE to PIE, start up IE and sign into logmein. This worked for me. Hope it helps someone. Sorry if this is already on this forum somewhere else.

I tried this and it works but now I cannot get IEtoggle to switch me back to IE6. I tried restarting and then selecting IEtoggle, thinking PIE was somehow still running, but even after this I am still stuck in PIE.
EDIT: Since this original post on 4/18 I have had to do a hard reset, since my email and SMS windows for individual messages (compose, read) were not popping up. I have no idea if it is related to using IEtoggle, but I am not going to use this again on my TouchPro2 6.5 just to be safe.
after some trial and error
Here goes, first off i apologize horizons1. I have the same phone and WM version as you. Haven't experienced any of these problems. All i can say is make sure you install XDA WM 6.1 PIE first, then reboot, then install IEtoggle might of been your problem. After further testing i have found that Kfortouchpro is necessary to log into windows from your log in screen or type any text once in windows. When opening kfortouchpro it lets you switch to M$ IME which is required for your keyboard to work. Now after testing this for a bit, if you don't switch it back to eT9/multiplay in the program before you reboot it will not display your slider bar to unlock your phone on boot up. Only way to fix is with activesync. Have tested this 3 times in different configs. I wish i could just use remote desktop thats built into WM. But i am currently connected behind two routers one being bridged to the other. Have tried many times to get this to work with no luck. So if anyone can help me with that, it would be much appreciated. Too bad logmein won't just patch this problem. Their program works great after jumping through all these hoops to get to your desktop.
