Storage/Program Size? - P3400 General

Is it possible to change Storage/Program Size without Upgrade or change the OS?
Current Storage is 40MB and Program size is 43MB.
Change it to 25 for Storage and 58 for Program.
So, is it possible using any utility?
See u all.

No way its a hardware issue

well thats ur defalt storage cant mess around with the phone mem

The program memory area (or RAM which is 64 MB for Gene ) is fixed you can not change it any way. The storage memory (or ROM which is 128 MB)is the area which is left after your device is flashed it with a ROM image. So IF you flash your ROM with some other custom ROM, the storage area will be different. but program memory will be unaffected

is it normal ?
why it is not 128 mb ?
Could you be more especific? The memomy is after installation or what.
isn't 128 because that space have operative system and all other rom programs
To be a bit more precise, when they write 128MB ROM on the box what they really mean is:
64MB (approx.) BOOTLOADER + OS + RADIO
10MB Extended ROM (could be salvaged with a registry tweak)
Whatever is left - storage, but keep in mined about 10+ MB worth of stuff is installed from ext ROM after hard reset.
42.55 MB free storage pretty clean device, but I think you have a whole lot of stuff running in the background as I usually have about 22MB program memory after soft reset.

how to maximize internal storage vs program space?

Hi all,
Is there a way to adjust the amount of the internal flash memory WM5 allocates between storage and program space?
I've installed all my extra apps in the unlocked extended ROM, and I'd like to reallocate the 29MB of 'Program' space I've freed up to 'Storage' space (as shown by Settings > System > Memory > Main) if possible.
I'd like to do this because there have been times when copying a file to the PDA fails because of 'no space left' in 'Storage', while there are still around 25MB+ of free space unused by the 'Program' part.
And this is something I'd like to do irrespective of the size of microsd I'll be getting.
thanks a lot
PS. Personally, I think it's silly that WM5 still allocates internal flash this way, since it's now able to run programs directly off the NAND flash ...
my mistake
OK,
I just found out about the memory FAQs down the bottom of this page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_FAQs
and reading them cleared up my questions: basically I mistook 'Program' part of the memory as being part of the NAND flash, when it's actually part of the RAM.
Only the 'Storage' part belongs to the flash.
So now I know my question didn't actually make sense, and can be ignored
cheers

Where's virtual memory ?

Hi,
I have a noob's question :
I'm using Qtek Magic 32B rom, I want use virtual ram then I use recovery 1.5 to partition my 4gb class6 sdcard to 3 partition. I see that my phone faster but when checking memory status in Advance Task Manager, I see that no change after do that. I tried resize swap partition and having no change. How to check all memory in my phone ? And why increasing size of swap partition doesn't increase virtual memory ?

[Q] unusable internal memory

Hi, I am using MIUI with Android version 2.3.7. Everything is allright, but I only have 217 mb of internal memory in total. The MIUI ROM and other apss take up about 180 mb and although I have moved some apps to sd I now only have 40 mb available. It should have 512 mb internal memory. Why can't I see and use all of it? Is it possible that I didn't delete windows mobile or one of the other android roms I have used so far, though I am sure I have tried "clean install" a few times?
Dalvik cache & app data take up a lot of space too, you could move these to th SD ext partition to free up more internal memory. You will need a2sd installed I think to enable this.
Peace

the 'available internal memory' figure only counts the data partition size.
so (for example) if your rom requires a 200 meg system partition, you would show..
512 minus 200 minus whatever cache size you flashed minus the boot and recovery partitions (lets guess 50 meg) so your available internal memory on a completely fresh install, no data or apps, would still only show a max of 262meg available.
Also, if you flash a system partition bigger than required, you dont get the extra space to use. So flash a 180meg rom onto a 250 meg system partition, and you lose 70meg, the system wont use it for anything.

Thank you so much. My ROM itself is about 100 mb. How much data partition size should I actually spare for such a rom? Also could you please direct me to the post that tells me how to arrange the data partition size and do the rest of flashing my rom again? I would really like to have more available internal memory. Also I would be happy if you told me what ext 3 or ext 4, whatever it is called, is and if it has anything to do with internal memory.
If the rom is 100mb then you need a partion of at most 110 so if your using clk or magdlr..after you have wiped nand...partition it to 110 if possible or use 105 even cos you don't wanna be giving up wanted space..

Increased Ram on CM using SDCard?

i heard that you can edit a partition on the sd card to Increased the ram since the boot, space and storage is all on the card... i hear you should be able to edit some them but i have no idea if it can be done and if it can what Tool
i was using MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition v7.5

You are confusing ram and rom. Ram is the memory that the system stores the active stuff. It is volatile and loses everything when the power is off. The Nook Color comes with 512MB ram and that cannot be changed. ROM is non-volatile and keeps whatever is written there even with power off.
ROM is what is on the SD partitions for SD installs. And you can change the size of the partitions on the SD, but it is difficult to do with windows applications like Min-Tool once you have added data to those partitions.
If you use my newest image file (rev4) I have set it up to give you larger system and data partitions for larger SD cards so you don't have to do anything yourself.

i know what the ROM and RAM is
to help you out about what i mean........ after the img is burned to the card there are 3-4 partitions on it..... well a friend of mine who has the same set up was saying "Theory-Wise" since all the CM7 &/or CM9 setup and so-on is on the Card/Runs from the card... the RAM that you use to run games when using CM7 is also on the card so that means the card also has RAM on it(since the setup is on the card) you can Increase the RAM by messing with the size of the partitions......... can this be done???
as for the latest img you was talking about... can u give me a link to it?
Not everything is on the card. The ram is still on the device and not changeable. It uses the same ram as the internal rom does. There is no ram on the card.
The link to my new image is in my tips thread linked in my signature. See item B2 in the second post.
