Verizon xv6800 is now $50 for new customers, $150 existing thru bestbuy! - Mogul, XV6800 General

I just got a xv6800 thru Verizon direct, for the $250, 2 year contract price. I had a feeling it would drop when the touch pro came out, or even before to clear the way...
Well I just saw this. Best Buy is offering the xv6800 for $50 if your a NEW customer, and for $150 if your an existing customer, with 2 year extension. That's $100 cheaper then Verizon has it for existing customers, and $200 cheaper if your a new customer! That's huge!
I was p***** at the price drop but I'm within 30 days, so I called them and they had me fax them the ad here:
Here is the price for a CURRENT customer with 2 year extension ($149.99)
http://wireless.bestbuy.com/DeviceD...pgradePhone=true&ProductID=56946&CarrierID=60
And here is the price for a NEW customer ($49.99)
http://wireless.bestbuy.com/DeviceDetails.aspx?r=bestbuy3&zipcode=14615&ProductID=56946&CarrierID=60
And they're going to rebate me $100 (somehow, may come off my bill, not sure yet) - rather then having to return the phone and rebuy it (what a pain that would be)!
I'll let you know when that goes thru and how they do it, but heads up Verizon customers :-D

Please let me know... I've only had the phone a couple weeks.. and paid $250 as well.

Yeah same with the Touch. It's $49.99 for new customers and $169.99 for upgrades I believe.

I got an e-mail this AM stating they credited me $100 towards my Verizon bill! I confirmed it went thru via MyAccount! So it worked! Hopefully it works for you too!
They made me fax them a copy of the link I posted above, and they put me on hold twice and then said it would be a "one time courtesy". But they did it! Good luck!

I didn't do as well as you did but I am FAXing the

OK.. My CS Rep told me that since it's through Best Buy... the only thing I can do is return my phone... and then buy it from Best Buy.

Ok.. now I got a better Representative... who is having me fax the flyer. Gave me her extension and Supervisor name. She will credit my account afterwards.

Ya the lady I talked to had to ok it with her supervisor too, twice, I had to complain pretty hard to get it, but in my eyes, it was a valid complaint. I could have just returned it and bought it thru best buy, then they don't get the sale, and i'm majorly inconvienced. I've been a verizon customer since before verizon was around here (Had bell atlantic mobile) so.. ya. Wasn't taking no for an answer.
Glad it worked out for ya'll too :-D

According to Engadget Mobile, it's due to hit Sprint in early Sept, so due to the 30-day exclusivity agreement between the carriers, that would make it some time in October for VZW.

So if you update thru Best Buy there is no having to wait for that New Every Two BS?

You still have to be eligible for Upgrade thru Verizon.

okay so did anyone else notice how best buy sells this VERIZON phone by advertising:
"Onboard GPS Supports Location Based Services And Turn-by-turn Directions"
anybody think this means something?

Yes. I think it means, "We'll be glad to sell you the Verizon Navigator service at $10 or $15 a month."

Buying at a sprint store: waiting list?

So, i just called a sprint store near me, and I was told that there are no pre-orders at sprint stores, but i have to get on the waiting list which is available on sprints website, which i'm not sure if she meant it's available now, or will be soon. Can anyone explain this to me?
radioshack. I honestly don't understand why people don't want a free $20 and no MIR.

Where does it say that radioshack has no MIR. As I understand it they do have a MIR. I prefer 100$ less on initial investment to free 20$.
I preordered with Radioshack on Fri. No MIR, and free $20 giftcard. It's true.

There just aren't any RSs near where I work. Besides, I found out about RS after I pre-ordered from BB.
If you can find one, it'd be worth it to get a refund on your BB gcard and just get to a Shack location.
i've been reading some other forums, seems like the only downside about not buying directly from sprint is that it can be harder to get fast and easy phone swaps at the local sprint store if something is wrong - sprint stores will apparently only use the TEP to change a phone if you didn't buy from them (may have to wait for them to send the phone away and then get it back). don't know how much of this is true, but there was extended discussion about it on a palm forum regarding how people had problems after getting the new palm pre from other vendors.

Trust me, i want to, but i can't. I will be going on contract with my mom to save money, she gets a like...25 percent discount on monthly fees from her work, so we have to do it at the sprint store. Still haven't had any responses to my question though, does anyone know?

The 25% discount she gets is already attached to her account. You can go to a RadioShack (or bby) and that will not be affected.
(And no, I can't answer the original question either. An online waiting list sounds bogus though..)
went to my local sprint store, corporate, asked about a wait list, they said they didn't have one but that it was available from sprint.com after clicking on the evo add. I think they are confused about the difference between a waiting list and email updates . . .

No, when you leave the store at preorder, you walk out with your $50 on a giftcard to be used toward your purchase. ($199-$50 giftcard preorder=$149.99). When you come in and pay the remainder and pick up your Evo, you will receive your $20 giftcard toward anything you'd like.
That's on a per-phone basis, so for you, you'd be getting $20 per each phone.

Have mom go to a RS, let them open an account for her (wont have to get phones yet) and pre-order. All she has to do is tell them to add her discount AT THE VERY BEGINNING of the application process and it will be ready and waiting when you go get the phones on the 4th. (And since you will have preordered, you will have them guaranteed for you!)
RadioShacK is the place to get the phone.
Radioshack does not have MIR, 199.99 for new and upgrades, free $20 for accessories, Better service than the sprint store guaranteed, No lines, you phone will be there waiting on you not the other way around. Chose what time you want to come and get your phone.
We preordered through our companies evpdiscount.com website and the phones were 174.99 each.
For me it's www.evpdiscount.com/meridian
is there an activation fee at radioshack?
My work will pay for electronics, so I buy at sprint for $300, give them the bill, get my $100 rebate, then get $300 back from work = -100 for me.

Like free money? Then you might want to call TMob customer service

Apparently several retailers are selling the Vibrant for $99 with upgrade. TMobile has been persuaded by several users on their official forums (including myself) to credit the difference ($100) to their bills.

Not to put a damper on things, but I work for TMO care in an un-named higher position. Feel free to call, but don't expect that to be the case. There isn't an official "offer" like that going on and if it has happened, it has been a judgment call by the rep and/or sup. But speaking from experience, this kind of thing is rare.
Just want to avoid banging heads against a brick wall.

Thanks for clearing things up. I know it's the CSR's call, but it has worked for several people on the T-Mo forums, but obviously, it's hit or miss. Anyway, it's worth a try regardless.
what other deals/benefits can we get from the t-mob?
If you've been with T-Mobile for a long time you would have a much easier time getting preferred features.
good chunk of change for u vibrant users!
Been with tmo for like 7 years and they wouldnt sell me for $165
I did this on the relese day... Worked. I did have to call in twice and as I was nearly out of contract they knew I could walk.
When I called on July 13th to get an official confirmation on the release of the Vibrant, I also wanted to disable a 3rd line I had that is no longer in use. the CSR transferred me to another dept (which I later learned to be the Loyalty dept). I told them to disconnect my 3rd line and the reason was that it was no longer in use by my cousin who changed carriers.
The Loyalty Rep was trying to convince me to leave the line open. And seeing that I was interested in the Vibrant, he would be able to give it to me for 99 because that line was out of contract. Since my main line was out of contract, I asked him about that and he said that under my account, any of my 3 lines was eligible for a loyalty discount, but it is only available over the phone.
I called on the 15th and they had to verify what was entered in the notes for the loyalty discount.
I got mine for 99. I cited that I can get it from Amazon, Android And Me, etc. for that price.
I was lucky enough for T-mobile to give me the vibrant for $200 even though I just got a new plan with them around 3 months ago. So I don't think I'll be pushing my luck.
Yeah, I got the vibrant for $200, the new contract price even though I was on my previous contact for only 12 months.

Loyalty refused to credit me 100$ even though I was out of contract before my upgrade, and threatened to leave for Sprint. But they lowered my monthly bill by 20$.

That'll work. They just saved you $480 over the course of your contract. Not a bad deal, and a whole lot better than $100 credit.
I decided to give CS a call, mentioned I was an Amazon Prime customer and Amazon has it for $99. Ended up getting a $100 credit to my account! Thanks T-Mobile!
called cust serv and it was a no go bc I bought in store.. I tried tho...
A few weeks ago, I placed a call to T-mobile customer loyalty personnel, first line of defend declined to match Costco $100 price. I escalated the issue and politely requested to speak to the supervisor, a few minutes later I got T-mobile to agree on $149 with free 2 days shipping & no activation fee.
I have 8 lines with T-mobile and have been a loyal customer for over 5 yrs. T-mobile CS was fantastic and cordial during the "negotiation".

And if you were smart you claimed the rebate too
My local Sprint store is offering instant rebates on all phones right now, including the Evo. They say it will be the same on the Epic when it comes out - we'll see. At this point, no outlet (Sprint, Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc.) has really stepped up to give me any particular reason to buy the Epic from them.
And while I'm hoping to avoid having to mail in a rebate, I have to admit that when I got my BB Curve a couple years back, Sprint definitely made it worth my while - I got quite a bit more back than I was "officially" supposed to get.

G2 $99 for upgrades or new lines at Costco.

Saw this over at SD. Costco in store and online is offering the G2 for $99 ($150 - 50 rebate) for contract upgrades/renewals as well as new contracts. Comes with an accessory pack (mostly junk but does have a car charger). You can keep your old data plan, from the thread it sounds like it must be a smart phone data plan or you have to get the $30 data plan.

I was going to wait until the phone was rooted, but this price is too good to pass up since I'll be a contract extension.
Does anyone know if there's a 14-day return period when you buy online, or if Costco's normal 90-day return period applies? When I spoke to the phone kiosk representative in my local Costco, he said it would be 14 days. But at the Costco wireless website, the FAQ says 90-days.

from what I understand both are in place. You can return the contract extension for 14days, you can return the phone for a refund for 90days. 90 day refund is great if you have an issue with the phone and want to swap it out for a new one.

Yep, I believe this is what I was looking for. Originally I was going to wait for the G2 to go BoGo at t-mobile before switching but with this deal I think I'm gonna be there Saturday. Costco Membership just saved me more money!
I'll call customer service tomorrow and tell them I am thinking about returning my G2 and going to Costco to upgrade and see if Tmo will price match costco.
One of my buddies called me tonite, asked about how good the g2 is and he was sold.
He was ready to buy it at Tmob store at 200, I told him about this deal and walmart.
He took off from Tmob and went to Costco and got it asap, Thx to OP and slickdeals!
Just picked this up at the Costco at Pentagon City, VA. Price was 125 after tax (or rather 175, since I haven't sent the $50 rebate in yet). Really the best deal out there for upgraders. I'm glad I waited. Thanks to the op!

A while back others have tried that with the vibrant and tmob tells them they will lose their upgrade status if they return it. When costco pulls up your info, the system will show you're not upgradable.
However, if you didnt buy it yet and ask tmob to price match they wont, they will tell you to go ahead and buy it at costco.

Considering that you got the phone for a steep subsidy discount, what does "returning it for a refund" mean here?
You get your $99 back, but then a new phone will cost you full price because you already used your upgrade?
They can switch you to another phone they sell, 1 for 1, for the difference of the subsidized upgrade price? (But only if you do it through them?)
They will refund $449 (their full price for the phone) since they already get their $350 from T-Mobile?
What gets refunded, and what happens to your upgrade status?
Stupid question:
do you have to be a costco member for this deal?
I purchased the phone through a t-mo store and was eligible for an upgrade price. Then I saw this post regarding a cheaper price @ costco. I immediately returned the phone after having it for 3 days. Went to costco and tried purchasing it there and was suprised to find out that I was no longer eligible for the upgrade. I called t-mo rep (Shad) and was informed that I can no longer purchase the phone at a discounted price since I went through the purchase the first time. I tried debating with him as to why I am no longer eligible since I returned the phone and didn't get my full refund if this was the case? I understand not being refunded for the $18.00 upgrade fee for their cost and all but if I lose my eligibility then that is not fair. I challenged him to send me in black & white this rule of theirs and he wouldn't comply. I hung up and called corporate office and was directed to customer loyalty department and explained the issue to Wency and everything went thru perfectly. All she did was price match what costco had and will be shipping it out.
Sorry for the long story (I hope I don't get flamed for this). Just an advice for those who purchased the phone and wanting to return it and call corporate so you bypass the BS you will be going thru like I did.

Yes you have to be a costco member or if you know someone who is.
How long is this going on for??

Did you have to pay an activation fee with your Xoom?

Verizon contacted Engadget and stated today that the activation fee and month of service for those buying the Xoom at full price is no longer necessary.
I'm curious if you had to pay the fee or not. I intend on purchasing from Costco when they open in about 3 hours. I'm going to show them the article if they give me any flack, and I'll post back here.
Update: Verizon's been in touch to inform us of a policy change: customers who purchase the off-contract Xoom will now no longer need to be on a month to month plan. That said, we still see "Month to Month" as a compulsory option at the time of updating this post.

I bought from a VZW corporate store this morning, full price, no activation required. She asked me if I was just using for wifi or if I wanted data, I said wifi and that was it.
I'm in Iraq currently, so i had to get it overnighted to my wife and she has to activate it. I paid the activation fee...then, immediately after it is activated I am calling vzw and placing it on military suspension, and getting the activation fee credited to my account. they don't ship to APO addresses, and it has to be activated over the cell network if you get it subsidized.
hopefully, I can cancel the contract later this year. I've done it on ATT before.

I need to know too. I am going to Costco in 3 hours and would like to just purchase the unit without activation and data plan

The official statement is from Verizon, and it's my understanding that it's the Verizon booth in Costco that activates the 3g on the device. If someone tells me I must get 3g, I'm going to mention to them the official Verizon stance and ask if they can contact their corporate office to check.

Got mine at Costco this morning, and they made me signup for a plan... I told him Verizon doesn't require this anymore but rep insisted he has to sign me up for plan. He even proceeds to fill out a rebate form for me, even though I told him im going to cancel within the 72hr period anyways. Oh well...

I was afraid of this. Verizon probably has no intention of rushing to get the information out there hoping to still snag some undeserved money.
I got mine at Best Buy and they let me sign up without a plan... But the girl at the register didn't really know what she was doing.
I am taking my EVO with me. I already have the Engadget page ready to show if they give me an crap about fees. They are a Verizon kiosk (Verizon Representative) and should honor what Verizon is doing. If they are doing it in the Verizon stores, they should do it at their kiosks as well.

That's when the Costco Verizon Rep needs to call a Corp store and ask them. This is what I will tell them when I get there

I'm ahead of you, I already printed out the Engadget article to show them . I will most definitely be forcing them to call whoever would be up to date.

At costco they make you sign up for the month to month. He even gave me the number to cancel it. Up front you pay for the device, everything else is billed later. If you cancel within 3 days everything will be good to go.

I suppose that's okay. The damage is done to my credit since I let Best Buy run it two days ago and Costco yesterday.

UPDATE: Verizon Wireless has changed its mind on this policy as of Thursday morning (thank goodness). I've just confirmed with a Verizon spokesperson that if you purchase the Xoom for $800, without a contract, you will not be required to pay the $35 activation fee or sign up for a data plan. As of now, the Verizon Wireless website is not reflecting this change; however, an online customer service representative tells me you can contact customer care to have the data plan removed after making your purchase.

So the solution is to call customer care. Doing this today will hopefully avoid having to give them a single red cent in prorated data.

On the phone with Verizon right now. She tried to tell me i can't cancel it. After i said a few things, she did it for me. Said i would be charged a pro-rated amount for any use, and if i bought under contract i would have to pay the ETF. I told her i haven't turned the device on so there better not me a charge.

What's the warranty like. Do you get the Costco 90 day warranty OR the Verizon 14 day warranty? Was there other people there getting the Xoom as well

You have to break your contract within 14 days if you sign a 2 year. You have 90 days to return the device. You have a 1 year manufactur warranty. You have 3 days to cancel and not pay the activation fee. I was the only one
I got mine from VZW and they tried their hardest to get me to activate it for at least one month and charge me an activation fee. I told them I didn't want to do that and that verizon released information saying that it was not necessary. After about a half hour of them constantly asking me they finally sold it to me for full price.
