[APP][UPDATED 2009/01/03 v0.8.1] G-Invaders (tilt-sensor and nav-sensor game) - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Hi,
I proudly announce my next game for devices which have a tilt sensor: G-Invaders. Like Caver it uses the tilt sensor to steer the ship and nav sensor (scroll wheel to shoot missiles/bombs).
If you have ideas, which are not on my todo list, please post them here. Thanks!

- collect shild upgrades to repair your ship
- receive new bombs every 500 points
- receive extra lives every 25 shield upgrades
- receive a helper ship every 10 weapon upgrades
- the helper ship fires and collects by itself...
- if you fire a bomb you won't get points or upgrades for the aliens which are killed by the bomb. you also get -100 points. so use it only if you need to...
- if you fire a missile you get -1 points. so don't fire them blindly.

I came to the idea as I saw an example on MSDN - so this is just an adapted game, but I will update and extend it soon...
This is just a preview version... That means, there are no features like score, lives, upgrades, etc. If you have ideas, which are not on my todo list, please post them here. Thanks!

a new best G-Invaders video!! http://www.hdblog.it/mobile/?p=406

i prefer not to shoot at the enterprise. maybe you can switch the ships around ;-)

ha~! i knew it~~didnt work in my Omnia~~

Thanks waiting to see the full rel...

New version online
I decided to release the 0.2 version now although I couldn't work through the whole todo list. But I added lots of features which make it more playable than the first version so I think you'll have more fun with it!
There is still no highscore list because the next big step will be the creation of more and better levels. It wouldn't make sense to have highscore now recorded which will not be valid in the next version(s).
Therefore there is also no "Game over" sign, but I think you know when you have no more lives left ;-)
The lives are displayed on the lower right corner, on the top of the lives there is the current damage of the ship displayed... On the left side you can see your current score and how many shots you can make.
Please test it and report me how you like it. If you have any ideas which I don't have on my todo list, post them here, too...
THANK YOU!
And by the way: If someone could make some cool ingame screenshots I would be very glad!

new screenshots online...
these screenshots are from the next version which I will release soon (thanks to pinele from hdblog.it)
I finished 5 of 10 galaxies (35 of 70 levels)... Stay tuned!

wow! impressed! thank you and keep up the good work!

Mollusk I love you
I'll test it right now, while sitting on the toilet
I was waiting so long for your app
Edit:
GREAT GAME for 0.01 Alpha
Wow, looks nice on Tytn I
Will in future come a VGA version?
nice work!
bye
It should work on VGA (with upscaling). I might do a VGA version later on (not for the buttons though) as it's all vectorial anyways. But I'd rather concentrate on a base portrait QVGA version for now, sorry :/
FANTASTIC.....
Nice job Mollusk...
You'll receive my donation very soon...

Think about the time Mollusk has spent (and he's spending) to developt this fantastic app for us....

Thanks ^^ But to be honest, I would prefer people submitting graphics/scenes/ideas (not fancy stuff but good ideas like the ones I got by PM or posted on the wiki ). What makes this kind of app interesting is having a strong user database submitting stuff, not money

Thanks for this! Gonna work out what to do now...
Just got one problem... If you delete the base (red) bar, you can't replace it... So everything starts falling off the screen. I know you can just restart, but I think the option to make boxes or objects similar to the red one would be beneficial.
Edit: just found out you can so now I look like an idiot
omg very nice! Thanks

You can... you change the icon in the bottom right area of the icons on the left hand side of the screen to toggle whether the objects are fixed (like the red bar at the start) or if they move.

(ignore the arrow - look at the circled icon (its actually squared but you know what i mean)). You click the circled icon to toggle fixed objects/moving objects.
Just worked that out but thanks!
Two ideas:
1) Be able to draw straight lines
2) when selecting/dragging objects the ability to select multiple objects within a rectangle or something similar...
Brilliant! Donation on the way.
Idea-wise - how about being able to zoom out and user a larger space than 320x240?
Surur
Maybe use the d-pad to move around a larger area?
It's a shame our phones don't have an accellerometer (sp?), to detect the physical orientation of the phone. But a cool feature, and purely cool, not that practical, would be to change orientation of the screen and make all the objects fall to the new center of gravity.
Not sure about how possible this would be... But is there any way to build a bunch of accelerometers into a package, attach that to the back of a device and then somehow link it up to an SD card?
An idea based on the one above would be to have a grab style option to move the whole game area around and rotate it.

[APP][UPDATED 2009/01/20] New G-Sensor/Accelerometer Game: CAVER

Hi,
I'm proud to announce a new game especially made for the Diamond...
Caver is based on a black&white game I played years ago on a Palm...
The difference: my game uses the g-sensor to navigate your ball through the cave...

Features:
- Online Highscore list!
- Different difficulty levels
- Build your own levels simply by creating png files! (a howto will follow - but I think it's pretty self-explanatory... just look in the gfx/Level 1 folder and build your own levels according to my example level... and don't forget: POST THEM HERE!! The levels don't have to be black and white... everything that's white is a valid zone for the ball)
- Highscore list
- Calibration of g-sensor
Todo list:
- Special zones where you get more points
- Obstacles you have to fire in order to pass
- Adding options to adjust the tilt sensor sensitivity for non-online highscore mode

It's nice, but..after game over I every time have to restart the game since it simply just won't go back to the splash screen?
OW ow I can see the well designed pieces of art coming when making levels as PNG is possible.
But as you are developing, you say the ball goes on the white. Its a pity for levelmakers to NEED white, it doesn't look good. Making a road for instance you want textures in your png.,
So:
Can't you make, in future, usage of a black and white layer? Or white and other colors (speed down, speed up )
Nice idea! Only kinda small levels when i look at the png files. (not installed the game tho) can you make it so we can make wider levels so the game scrols?
I can't steer the ball, keeps going in 1 direction ...
do you have isntructions?

this is a know limitation right now. I just wanted you to present the first version as soon as possible and then spend time in making it better and adjust it to your needs... Next version can restart/change levels without exiting the whole game...

Yeah, this thought already came to me, too... I will try to change the "valid" color to magenta (for example) and make all parts of the image, that are magenta, transparent so the levelmakers can make custom backgrounds and are not bound to the white one...
The speed down, speed up feature sound's good... so I need at least 3 valid colors (normal speed, speed up, speed down...) I will try and let you know...

Thanks very much this is what ive been waiting for! (aside for official Elite3.0)
Luck fellasss
Agree with akido, when "game over" it doesn't return to the menu, so you'll have to restart the game.
I'm also having problems controlling the ball. It moves, but not very well. Sometimes it seems to move in the correct direction, but it just keeps accelerating until it hits a wall.
I have tried to change the settings of sensitivity, velocity and radius, but no luck...
It's really unresponsive on the steering input by tilting, even set on easy.
And it doesn't remeber the chosen settings.
Neat idea, keep on!!
Agree with all the comments. It's a really nice idea, and I love the concept!
I'd like to see more responsiveness on the controls, and it might make it nicer if you were in control of a helicopter or some other "flying machine" rather than a ball...
No reponse
Same here, it doesn't really repsonse very well even after I have changed it to easy, it's not like the Tweeter game.
I'm sure he'll fix it, I really like his idea.
This game is fun D:!
I have it for the macbook pro aswell you move the laptop around too, great fun during class D:<!

1. now you can restart the game
2. the controll of the ball should now be better... Please try it... My intention is not to make it "like Teeter" because Caver is a different game, but I agree that the ball should react smoothly and in a correct way...

[APP] Seismo - v0.12 20/09/2008

Hi,
Here is a small application which uses the accelerometer and draws a small graph. It uses the g-sensor managed DLL from Koushilk Dutta (and you'll need the .Net Compact Framework 3.5 to run this on your Diamond)

Here is the CAB : SeismoCAB (61KB)
Edit: 20th sept. version 0.12 of my Seismosaur detector
zoom in/out with nav button (circle clockwise / counter clockwise)
close button
screen should not turn black while Seismo is running
now the scale is inverse tangent like
Have fun (though fun won't last for a long time with this )
PS: and I already know that this is silly and useless, and ugly...
nice tnx. downloading now.
(the best GODZILLA detector there is XD
Thanks in deed... I was just looking forward for this thing... Pencil is a cute user interface
Just a couple of question or feedback let's say:
-- The seismo in iphone was much more sensitive than ours... Even somebody's walking in the room was enough to disturb needle. Is it all about hardware? The response of accelerometer?
-- This lovely program is only deviating in "normal direction to screen" as far as i observed... I haven't seen a real seismograph, but is it always the case? Or should it react against the "resultant acceleration of three directions"
Thanks for the program...
Great APP, I've waited long for Seismograph for Diamond.
However it would be nice to:
1) change the pencil with the proffesional needle image?
2) make it more sensitive (or let us choose the sensitivity ),
3) prevent the screen from fading when the APP is running,
4) add some sound?,
5) add the possibilty to save the session,
6) maybe add the Richter scale meter somewhere underneath?
Heh, a long list, but I hope it will help to improve the APP
Haha... Love it!

I'm not sure about the sensitivity, maybe it's the scale i've used (a logarithmic one may be needed, as the iPhone version has)... I'll try some adjustments... but i'm not trying to compete with the iPhone version here nor the results can be compared. iPhone's Seismometer measures some "energy" and not the raw acceleration. Maybe they square it or they integrate it, i don't know...
You are also right: I'm only measuring "up and down" accelerations. It could also use the norm of the vector if you think that it makes more sense.

Here my ideas for processing of raw data coming out of port:
1- As you've suggested, a log scale may let you magnify the result. Actually it will not magnify but it will let the output be scaled on a narrower band (visually). it means you will have a bigger space to plot data's. So you can increase the output by some constant (multiply with 10 let's say), or even maybe take the cube of the output (taking square will cause problem because negative results will turn into positive then) So we can see even the very small disturbances. and since you use log scale, big oscillations will also not be problem, they will nicely fit on your log scale.
2- Secondly norm of the vector seems like a better idea. Because we're not looking for something scientific or something based on real scales, you can use a resultant vector. The users only want to see the movement of your pencil in any case of disturbance. So sqrt(x'2+y^2+z^2) will be a more useful raw data output just before multiplying with proportional constant and scaling on log paper.
One more time thanks for your effort....
Very very very cool.
thanks very much for your time and effort
Highly appreciated.
works flawesly no probs with sensitivity HR...try to put Dia od table and you will see some vibrations even without any "seismic activity: so maybe appreciate option to stabilise common distorsions caused by HW such a very small iregular deviations...but leave to measure also this small distorsions so to do some switch...but very very amazing app...
I hate iPhone and iPhonemania but its good inspirations for all WM community
Very nice app.
Some suggestions
-exit button
-You can also do this with sound (decibel meter?)
-scale option
-real needle image
Great work so far thanks
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions, I'll try to improve this draft - I did not spend a lot of time on this as you may have guessed
I'll try first to change the scaling, find or draw a "needle" picture and have an exit button.
Stay tuned...
I was finishing my seismo program last nigth but you got ahead
Aldo my program have more features yours have a lot better interface, this was my second WM program so i think its normal, could you share the sorce code so i see how you make the graph?
And i can share my formulas white you to, i was using this web site as base to all my formulas http://earthquake.usgs.gov/learning/topics/measure.php
Thx in advance
Hi Ikari,
I had seen the thread where you said that you may code something, but at this time my small Seismo was already on its way...
Of course I'll post my C# solution on this thread this evening/night (European time too) when i get back home and have 5 free minutes
Feel free to use it!
where I can take .net 3.5??

To Ikari - and all those interested - here is a link to the current zipped solution (VS 2008):

The few interesting things are in SeismoMain.cs...

really cool app. kudos from me
several small questions - would it be possible to somehow save the data / the graphs?
and it'd be cool if the device didn't go to sleep after the wm-preset time...
Very nice one.. I wouldt be nice to save the graphs and for example put the phone on the table and If your girlfriend/wife took it for a few moments then put it back.. you can see that ... just an ideea
Nice app!
What to add a fullscreen mode ?

[2008/10/28 v0.5.1] G-Watch (Stop watch & Countdown timer with GPS support)

Hello again!
It's time for a new tool: G-Watch!
G-Watch is a stop watch and a countdown timer with all features you'll expect of a stopwatch.
As an additional feature I provide GPS support. You can (you don't have to!!) use your GPS device to monitor your training session.
You can export your sessions to CVS (e.g. for Excel), KML or GPX (e.g. for Google Earth)

This software is freeware! I take no responsibility if the distance is calculated the wrong way and you think you're faster than superman!
Thanks for using and supporting G-Watch...

I will have a look on this
egeye??!!! what in the world is seriously wrong with you??
your coming out with progs that are necessities and are by far supreme...
thank you again for your time and effort and your progs....
congrats on your knowledge!!!
I forgot but if you still need for a translator ... I'm there
1. Can GPS support UTM and not only longitude and latitude
2. Try to combine G-Alarm and G-Watch, at lease two software can share the same setting(options)
another hit from ageye!
This stuff should be built into windows mobile!

Yeh but i have to say you're a good master
And another awesome ageye production.
This is the only thing I've missed on my Omnia. Now I got a complete phone.
Thanks mate for the great and useful program. I hope it'll be so successful and innovative like G-Alarm.
good stuff!
couple suggestions:
1. can you make the start/stop and split buttons bigger?
2. a short vibrate or tone when start/stop button is pressed.
3. ability to turn off the screen to save battery.
It would be perfect for me if you can combine the good points of GpsCycleComputer and StopWatch. (you can find these two apps under Diamond forum)
many thanks for this !
Great soft, google maps to view result is great too
I would welcome another button which would stop and restart, or maybe just a restart button, starting the timer again from the current time.
Will this eventually be able to set split intervals in GPS mode. For example, I am going to run 6 miles and I want to know my 1 mile split times, will this eventually have a setting to manually set the split interval for every 1 mile in GPS Mode?

that's a good idea... I'll add it to the todo list. I tested G-Watch today more thoroughly - it's not very reliable yet (well it's v0.1.1) but it will become better! I promise!
I trust you ageye
I really like your job

Sounds good. I've messed around with it a little, it definitely has great potential. Thank you for the development and look forward to future releases.
Many many thanks once again for developing an application I can really use and was looking for.
I just managed to catch your post before I went off for the day on my bicycle. I installed it, mounted it on the bike and took it with me on a 24km/15 mile trip. This is what I found:-
1. The speed reading is not working with GPS option enabled. Altitude is working and longitude/latitude.
2. Using it the first time the device went to sleep as per the system settings - 5 mins on battery power. When I woke it up straight away the timer had stopped. If I left it for say 10/15 mins asleep and then woke it up the timer was still running.
The second time I used it on the way back home the device did not go to sleep but the screen dimmed. I could then wake it up by touching the screen which was actually better than pressing the power button and maybe useful for saving battery power? Not sure why it behaved differently on second use.
3. On a bicycle it is difficult to see the information being given as the text is too small. Needs to be as big and bold as the time at the top of the page really.
Suggestions:-
1. Larger start/split buttons and larger text for info given as above.
2. Battery status - to check gps drain on battery.
3. More GPS info which is on your to do list I know - average speed/max speed etc...
4. Option for Miles Per Hour or Km/h. Not sure if that is what the left hand side reading is or not as the speed did not work - if it is maybe it should say mph instead of m.
5. Not essential but useful for me personally - a running log text file where the info can be copied/imported into a spreadsheet to keep a record of exercise done for the week/month. I know this is sort of on your to do list as well.
Hope that helps for now. Look forward to testing the next version.
New version released: v0.1.2
It's getting better ;-)
Still no support for exporting or saving sessions but GPS should work now and for all enemies of metric units: you can change to american units now ;-)

I see what you mean and so quick!
I have not been out with it but there is definitely some speed showing now. It takes longer to get a fix on the GPS - the last version was super quick. A price to pay for the improvements I guess.
Would really like the speed to be more visible with a bigger bold font and I notice the lap time column in bold is not fitting into it's box - some figures at beginning and end not showing fully.
Will take it out and about tomorrow morning.
Great stuff indeed!

Jumba - Game for WVGA Smartphones

Hi guys!
This is my first game for Windows Mobile. You can download and check it out for free!
Download Jumba here!
It should work on all WVGA devices, like HTC Diamond 2, HTC Touch HD, Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, Toshiba TG01, Asus P835, Acer Tempo F900 and many more...
This download contains a German and English version.
The game is quite addictive, but the best thing is the online highscore system. So you can compete with all the other players in daily/weekly/monthly and all-times highscore list.
New in Version 1.1:
- Reduced sound volume
- Added options to disable sound and vibration to the main menu
- These settings get saved automatically
- Fixed crash when dragging balls out of the playing field
- Added a clickable link to the activation screen
New in Version 1.2:
- Fixed a bug that caused continuous vibrations on some phones
New in Version 1.3:
- Fixed display of numbers for pro-gamers:
- Score can go up to 99,999,999
- Last score to 99,999
- Level to 999

Nice one there are few games for wvga devices. i will give it a shot
Exactly
Since I couldn't find any good WVGA games I figured out I had to write my own ^^
will this work for VGA screens? if not, any plans to make it VGA compatible?
thanks.
Great work! An excellent variation on the "connect n objects with similar properties" theme. WVGA graphics are splendid, and I really enjoyed the game! I played till level 7, I think, before a crash happened. I use a Blackstone.
My criticism:
Jumba did crash on me mid game. Simply try dragging a ball below the playing field. Seems to be reproducible.
I really dislike the vibrations - especially when my device is set to 'silent'!
Shortcut should install to "Games", not "Programs".
At least make a clickable hyperlink to your activation site. The address can't even be copied to the clipboard.
I'm out of trials, so I guess I need to consider activating!
Glad to hear there is a new WVGA game for my HD....thanks and appreciate your great works!
Thanx! Great work!
how to activate???? any K***y thanks
Hi guys!
Thanks for your feedback, especially to ugumba. I'll try to fix everything this week. The new version will be up soon
@danielng7:
I don't get what you're saying
@all:
I hope 3,99€ isn't too much for a game like this. At first I considered releasing it as freeware, but since I spent almost a month of my free time on this project I thought a little fee would be ok.
Hey, you stole my name!
Just kidding.
So basically you're self promoting....... i'm not going to lie, a little disappointed.
You don't usually see threads for games on here, which cost money. Sorry, but I won't be buying. Goodluck and nice work tho.

And after a while the vibrations get completely stuck, so you have to reset your device.
Also the sound is too loud and the sound on/off status should be saved in the registry.
Unfortunately my 3 testruns are all spent due to the resets, so no further "testing" from me
(and I will not pay 4 euro's for faulty software)
@fransb:
I'm sorry you encountered so many problems. I can assue you they did not occur on my device, otherwise I would have fixed them.
But thanks a lot for your feedback. I'll include your criticism on this weeks's ToDo list.
Maybe you could tell me what exactly happened with the vibration? How to did you manage to get it "stuck"???
Hi folks!
Just uploaded version 1.1. For a change log check out my first post (the download link has been updated, too). It can be installed directly over the old version.
Hope you like it
what the HECK???
you said it's free. only 3 times trial???? so much DISAAPOINTED!
also, can not open! unexpected error occur! HTC HD!
nicely done dude I will try it right now

Well, with half a game played, three resets and no credits left it is a bit hard to tell now what happened isn't it???
And I resent the fact that you imply that I got the vibration stuck. I never encountered this before, so it most be your faulty software, not me ....
Sorry to be a bit harsh, but you are promoting a commercial piece of software and expecting us to debug it for you (for free?) ....
come on dude stay calm
what is wrong with you, you are the only one having this bug and you are not really respectful !
If you want VanKurt to help you I suggest you to smile
By the way I really love this game VanKurt and it is working perfectly on my HD

Why should I be respectful to a company that is selling buggy software and promoting it as "free" here?
Maybe I am the only one with this bug, but I never encountered software before (ok, my own faulty code snippets) that requires a reset due to a bug.
he did say "Check it out for free"... not "it IS free"... I dunno, I guess I see the difference in it.
