Angry with O2 after purchase of Exec for Christmas!

Thought I would share this with you all, I know how I feel, how about you?
I have been bought an O2 exec on contract via O2 online as an Xmas present. The exec is an advanced device and many things can go wrong that may require it being returned for replacement. It would be difficult for someone without some technical knowledge to give an exec a decent test and ensure everything, BT, Wifi, 3G, SMS, Video, Camera, MP3 etc etc is working correctly. So I contact O2 and request nicely that they confirm my warranty does not start until the 25th Dec. My exec has arrived, I have not even seen the box yet, my wife has already wrapped it ready to place under the tree in a couple of weeks ready for me to open Christmas morning. I could have and still could open it up and test it to make sure I am happy everything is okay but I don't want to! I am so looking forward to opening and holding my exec for the first time on Christmas morning. I understand that if it did turn out to have a fault I would have to wait until I could get to an O2 shop to get it replaced, thats fine. However O2 have stated in there email to me, copy below, that they will not delay my warranty until the 25th and that it will expire while it is still unopened and unused. I am disgusted!
Dear Simon,
Thank you for contacting O2 Customer Service.
I am sorry for any inconvenience that may have been caused. The 28 day exchange
period for your O2 XDA Exec will end on 18 December 2005. We will not be able to
extend the exchange period for your phone.
If your phone is faulty, you will need to contact us before 19 December 2005.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
If you need further information about this matter, please reply to this email.
For further details about O2, please visit our online Help Centre at:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can I have your comments please guys, I would like to forward this topic to them!
Thanks, Simon
Why didn't you bought it at the beginning of Decebmer. this way you could've returned it at the beginning of 2006.
Good luck and go enjoy your toy !
Because O2 were offering a "Today Only" discounted price on the day it was purchased.
@gooroo, so wanted to save money and you want special treatment? I'm not sure it is reasonable to have both!
My 2 cents
Your warranty will not have run out. Your right to an instant replacement will have run out. If the device is faulty it will still be repaired. But you might be without it for a month.
Expecting O2 to extend the 28day period on your say-so is unrealistic at best. Its not the way the world works (and never will be!).
If they allowed it for you, then everyone would be doing it to get an extra month or so added to the 28 days. They only have your say-so that you aint gonna open the device until December! If I was in customer support and a customer said this to me I would be skeptical to say the least!
If you are worried, and dont want to open it then I would send it back towards the end of the 28 days, say its faulty, and get a replacement. The replacement will have a renewed 28days on it from what I can gather.
Nigel
To be honest, you could have asked them in advance about this.
You cant change terms of contract willy nilly after the purchase. And chances are that the return/repair terms are tied into O2s contract with HTC.
Besides, theres still the 1 year warranty in case its faulty....
I did not think this was special treatment. It is common practice for shops to allow customers to bring faulty items back for replacement after christmas. How would O2 suffer from agreeing to my request, If the unit works fine they have nothing to fear do they? I have not asked for my contract not to start until the 25th I have not asked for my 1 year manufactuer warranty to start until the 25th. The sim card will not be activated until the 25th. I just feel that in this season of good will to all that this is no way to treat your customers, instead O2 customer services should be shouting from the roof tops that all phones bought for christmas can be replace if discovered to be faulty within 14days of christmas. I really thought I was being hard done by, but now I am starting to feel like I am being the pain in the arse.
@gooroo, look just open it and play with it for a few days and make sure all is well. Then seal again and it will be even more fun to wait until 25 Dec, a bit like foreplay
And you'll the reassurance that on 25th your device will be perfect and no disappointment
Are you for real ?
I am disgusted!

Personally, I'm disgusted that you think your so self important that you believe a company should bend over backwards to accomodate your individual Christmas gift requirements.
Imagine if everybody took this stance and ordered electrical items or whatever, but asked for their Warranty to start at a given date because it suited them ?
No offense intended, i'm just kind of surprised anyone would be "disgusted" and "angry" at a service that is quite honest and open about having a fixed 28 day warranty period.
@gaspx, its not just a given date, its the date at which retailers make a huge amount of profit from us their customers every year!
As for being sceptical, its not like they would not be able to check if I had used it before hand, as soon as I register the sim their network would know.
Anyway, I guess I am being over the top. I am sure it will be fine anyway looking at all the reports on here from people saying, buggy, slow, crashes, not working etc etc. Perhaps I would not be so concerned if we were not expected to beta test their stuff in the first place!
Regards, Simon
i feel that the company did nothing wrong. you already got it at a special price and if you want to have standards for yourself (not opening presents till xmas day itself), you expect others to follow suit.
As has been said previously...the 28day is a right to return the phone as a change-of-mind option only. The warranty will not end after that period - if the phone has a fault when you start using it, you can send it back for a replacement.
Ant
Sorry guys, look I must really have got this badly wrong. My mistake, I really thought you would all take my side and just think O2 were being mean. I dont earn alot of money, it takes some saving before we can afford to buy something like the exec. Like buzz says, I have a family to feed and this is the one time each year that I can choose to have a little luxury. It's not like I am being strange wanting to wait until Christmas before opening presents, I am pretty sure millions do the same thing the world over.
What I was asking for from O2 costs them nothing, indeed if nothing was wrong with their exec it really would cost them nothing and if there was something wrong with it then they would have had to replace it anyway. All I was hoping to avoid was being disasppointed by receiving a gift from my wife at Christmas that did not work and then having to wait 2 weeks maybe before O2 replaced or repaired it under the 1 year warranty.
Sorry to have got you all wound up. I will shut up now and eat some humble pie. Certainly didn't expect this kind of response doh!
Regards to you all, and have a GREEEEAT Christmas guys
Simon
Just to cheer you up a bit, the XDA comes with a 2 year warranty, not one!!!
Stop being negative. Enjoy what you have.
gooroo, the one thing you DO want to check (and your wife can easily do this for you now without any technical knowledge) is that they've sent you a NEW Exec. I.e. one that's never been touched before. There are several reports on these forums of O2 sending out previously-returned Execs to new customers instead of sending them fresh ones and reserving the fixed/secondhand ones for warranty returns.
Get your wife to open the box and see whether it all smells new, whether everything is neatly wrapped up in little bags and whether there are any finger prints on the box, the manuals and the Exec itself.
If it looks suspicious then call O2 and stick a rocket up their collective arse. Their practise of selling second-hand phones as new is ****ing disgusting and they should be investigated by Trading Standards. Just MHO, of course.
After all this I hope you're really happy with your Exec and that you have no problems with it. Have a good Christmas and don't neglect the kids to play with your new 'baby'!
For what it's worth I don't think some of the responses above were warranted (no pun intended)...you made an honest post and people should perhaps have not jumped down your throat about it.
Bottom line is though that the 28day thing is a have-you-changed-your-mind-about-wanting-the-phone thing. Sure they could exercise a bit of festive understanding but it's not their obligation to be. But as your main concern is that it works, not that you won't like it, the 28day limit is irrelevant.
I do suggest that you get your wife to check that it's not a return (I got a refurbished XDA2 supposedly as brand new and I demanded they send a new one out - I didn't return the one I had til they did) and then get her to wrap it all up nicely again. If it's faulty when you get yer mitts on it, then you have the right to send it back as such.
Hope it all works out well for you, which I'm sure it will.
Merry Xmas everyone!!

Yeah, well, at the risk of flogging a dead 'un, I wanted to pitch in to support the OP and say I'm doing the exact same thing. I also asked if I could have my renewal start from the 25th so I would have the full 28 days and was told that no, it would actually start that same day, regardless of the fact that I wasn't going to receive the Universal for an unknown period of time...
Knowing that, when it arrived I opened it up (loooove that box) checked it was all ok, doing a hard boot and basic install etc then gritted my teeth and wrapped it all back up again. This was a few weeks ago now (3+ anyway) and I will *never* do this again! the suspense is killing me!
Respect is due to the OP for delaying gratification in a world obsessed with instant pleasure, and for eating humble pie, another increasingly rare trait.
@gooroo: Do get someone to check that it is an original and maybe run through a basic reboot / sim check because it's easy to do and worth making sure that Christmas day (Christmas Eve for the Catholics amongst us) doesn't end with a whimper
29 days to go...........

I STOOD ON MY XDA EXEC :: Q's about insurance

Hi I have looked on the forums and have found a bit about phone insurance. I stood on my XDA exec ( I know what a c**k) its knackered. The screen has popped the silver bit on the back has come up in one corner and the flip / rotate mech snapped so the screen flaps about in the wind.
Yes I was drunk
Yes I am stupid
Yes I have made a claim.
I have sent it in today to LSG (lloyds tsb phone insurnace). From looking at other web sites my concerns are as follows :-
1) They will not be able to get the parts to repair the exec.
2) If they replace my phone they will not be able to get an O2 one (I know the imate is the same but I like it in black).
From what I have read elsewhere people have had a real issue getting top of the range PDA's fixed (unless its by the network insurance when they mostly get new ones) Most of the time people get offerd a cash settlement.
Has anyone else claimed through Lloyds phone insurance or any other 3rd party insurance and got a replacement phone ?
If they want to settle for a cash sum. How much should it be ??
any help on this would be good ???
Have edited my first post to be more specific. Anyone ??
here is the answer to anyone who is interested. they tried to get me to take a nokia n91 or n80. I said no.
told them I wanted an exec or the cash. after about 10mins of holding ect I got a supervisor who tried to tell me how good the 91 was. I still said the same. put on hold again.
they came back on and said your exec is in the post.
here's the deal. full new boxed o2 xda exec.
I got my first on in feb 05. this one feels much more solid. the screen flip is much tighter it has come with new rom installed. seams faster.
phone signal is better.
the whole unit seams much more soild than the first one??
could it have been that my first unit was a recon ?
anyway very happy
It seams I spoke to soon. The screen has started to flicker (brown lines jumping all over the place) this is very random but the unit has done it about 5 times now.
It will have to go back.
Can I ask for Cash instead of a new phone ??
Phoned them. Sending it back.
Will make me a cash offer when the get the phone back.
Think im going to go back to Ipaq. Had nothing but problems with this phone.
Hi I have just had my claim paid up by the same insurance (lloyds bank) They told me they do not have any xda replacements and would either give me a nokia n91 or cash settlement I went for the cash they paid me £450 for a xda IIs (ba) £450 is the maximum they pay out so you would more than likely get the same.
I have been informed by a supervisor today that the max they will pay out is £600. They use GSMarena.com to price up what they pay out. Universal costs around 550 - 650 GBP depending on where you look.
The girl on the phone said they will price it on the day the get the damaged one they sent me back. They have 3 suppliers (she would not name them) and they take the average as the units value. I would think they then knock a bit off.
I expect at least £500.
andytl
How quickly did they pay you. I have read on other sites it takes them ages to sort it out.
If you look on there website it states a maximum figure of £450 I doubt they will go over it.
I am a platinum account holder and should be covered up to 600 GPB
We will see I will post when I find out.
Lloyds TSB insurance
Hi!
I've claimed for 2 Xda2i machines that I lost via lloyds TSB insurance which is part of my gold account. each time they've been great at sorting things out for me.
My last claim they informed me they had no replacements and so like others have already mentioned, went for the cash settlement. They paid me £450.
You can only claim twice in every yearly period so I've used up my 'allocation' as it were! I'll ring them next to see when I'm allowed to claim again if needs be. To minimise my risk, I've started carrying my phones in aluminium cases, in my pocket where they cannot fall out and get lost/broke screens again !
I recommend lloyds tsb insurance via lifestyle services group - quick hassle free insurance !
Cheers! Dennis! West London UK!!
Well got the call today. £569.00 offered and taken.
Going to jump ship to ipaq hw6915 here I come.
Ill no doubt be back.

Another Brand New Exec for sale!

Hi fellow site users!
I have a 3 weeks old Exec that has done nothing but be an expensive paperweight since I've had it! See my other posts about the Active Sync/Outlook problems I've had with it!!
I've therefore decided to sell it off and thought I'd offer it here for first dibs to you guys rather than have the time waster bids on eBay.
history - I took it out of the box, setup a new partnership on my laptop and when it sync'd only 24 of my 88 or so contacts showed up on the exec's display - no amount of tweaking, settings changes, selecting show all shows the rest up. I've had to borrow a friends Xda2i in order to allow me to continue working which has no sync problems at all. These last 2-3 weeks the Xda has sat on my bedside table on a bunch of sales receipts!
In order to quel any of you guys fears, I do have an eBay account with feedback of 311 at 99.1 % and my business eBay power selling account with feedback of 5280 at 99.8% (I will provide these via any PM's )
I will send abroad to the US/Canada/Aus (in fact I sold me, my business partner and brothers Xda2 to USA buyers!).
The unit itself is of course in brand new condition. Nothing is missing, I've not opened the software. The only thing I've done is update to the latest ROM from 02's website. It's currently in Corporate mode too. I've not installed any programs, nor have I used the phone. I've only tried to sync it with my laptop - it's the only use it's had! - I also put a screen protector on as soon as I peeled off the 'shipping sticker' on the screen.
Similar Exec's on Ebay from sellers with decent feedback seem to be in the £300-350 range (lower priced ones are from lower and single digit feedback sellers - which raises the point if they're genuine).
I'd like £325 for this unit and I'm open to sensible offers.
If there's anything else you'd like to know - just ask here or via PM!
Cheers! Dennis! West London UK!!
BUMP*!!
Is the price too high?!
I guess I need to start taking some pics of the Exec and prepare to list it on eBay!
Anyone on here interested?!!!
Cheers!
Dennis! West London UK!!
You obviously haven't looked hard enough, mate!
A brand new one for £250. Yours would have to be offered LESS than that, considering its not new like the one here:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/O2-XDA-EXEC-B...46QQihZ019QQcategoryZ3312QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
rubish..... £325 is an absolutelly more than fair price!!....specially if you are able to reassure the buyer that this is not going to be an insurance claim!!... which is more than what you can say about alot of the phones going through ebay!

Nah, I disagree, £325 is a fair chunk higher than market value. Last as new exec I sold on ebay got £265 and my open box ones about £230. eBay may well be higher than market value as there are less savvy buyers doing their bidding and pushing prices up, not down. Someone using this board is less likely to pay over the odds, which £325 definatley is.
Richard
Yeh,
I think I'll just whack it up on ebay and hope none of the stupid zero bidders wastes the auction!
Hopefully I'll get 'decent' dosh for it !
Cheers guys!

As soon as the packaging/box seal is broken it is already a second-hand product eventhough totally unused. You have already used the item and changed the original OS in it.
I guess you'll get a better offer if you claim it as a "like new" item.
You interested in trades for this,Dennis?
Brand New, UNUSED Samsung E900?
Let me know ASAP.
Darren.
You're probably best off sticking it on ebay, I have done this with all of my previous XDAs and have always got the proce I was looking for, probably because they were in very good conditon (which yours obviously is) and because of my solid ebay rating. I think people would rather pay a decent price for an item from somebody who is reliable than go with somebody like the guy offering a brand new Exec in the link for £250 (18 feedback and only 95% positive? Would you really risk £250?) Just my two cents.

=====================
Unfortunately i cannot miss my TP, since it's a company phone, but if there is anyone else interested i'd be glad, because i'm really looking forward buying an Invisible shield to protect my precious TP.
So anyone who can miss their TP => apply now! When asking permission if i could post this email here in the forum, he also mentioned that the more inquiries they got the more likely they would introduce it. So mail them!
I got the same response and it's great but I'm not shipping my TP from the Netherlands to the USA since it would take ages for me to get it back and cost more than wait and purchase an Invisible shield for my TP when it becomes available.

Amen, and I know they are a trustworthy company but I don't trust the shipping services to get it back to me lol.
Must say you guys are lucky they even replied
I also popped them a mail a few days ago about a full body suit for the TP and they didn't come back to me at all.
I think I will also pass sending the phone to the US though... Might be better if somebody a bit closer takes that up with them.
Why don't they buy one anyway? Or request a sample device from HTC to build the shield on? shouldn't be that hard for them...
Do hope to find something like their full body protection in the near future. not so very happy with the default 'protection-tube' from HTC

Well if they still have the offer next month when they release the HTC Touch Pro here in the US for the Sprint network, I'll consider sending my unit in. I'm trying to hold out and get the Touch Pro, however the Diamond is awefully inviting (since it's available today).
seems to be a standard reply...
Hi,
(@WDawn)
I got the same answer back as you, when i wrote them last week...
Unfortunate I'm here in europe... and shipping would cost ca 3times more then the "Shield" himself
And missing it for more then one (business-)week...
@DicEvsTytnII
Did you got a confirmation-email back, that they got your email?
@channeman
So i think that you will get the same offer, when you contact them (nicely).
I, do not only I believe, would be totally grateful if you would do this.
Would you?
Do you got your HTC Touch Pro already?
Keoma
@keoma
yeah, eventually I made another request on the website to get a TP full body shield and now they did reply. With the standard msg though. "send us your TP and we'll make one for you free of charge blablabla..."
Not really an option for me either
hope somebody does it though. Really holding out on buying something else...
DicE
i recieved the same message. i sent a reply asking what is the turn around time.
i am in the US and i plan on sending my unit in overnight, that is if they can return it in a timely manner.
I will keep you posted.
Hi,

I recieved the message :

Still no Zagg invisibleSHIELD for the Pro.
I don't know about you guys in the rest of the world, but here in australia the stores have a dummy phone, which is actually the case (Housing) on the model on display, I'm sure that if the shield company contacts HTC they would be able to purchase one of these for a fee and then use it to make the shields...
Roman....
Don't even bother with Invisible Shield. I've used them before. They're anything but invisible, often not cut to the right size and shape, and have a horrible spongy feel, that is horrible for stylus use.
And even with their discounts, overpriced. only thing I like is their wet install method, very forgiving and plenty of time to do it. No need for the nekkid in the steamy bathroom poor man's clean room install method.
so they were planning to give you the shield for free, give you the insanely priced ($10!?) "install fee" for free and NOT pay for shipping back and forth?
hahahahahaha
Someone buy a dummy phone and send it to them lol and get your free invisibleSHIELD.
Screen shield included?
There was actually a screenshield in the box when I picked up my Touch Pro. It's pretty crappy (I've already creased it by sliding it in the case), but it could tide one over until the 3rd party shields are sorted out.
Agreed. Now I've finally got it, there's no way I'm letting it out of my sight, especially to send through the mail to some company I've never heard of just so they can take measurements for a screen protector. Don't they realise that if they asked HTC for measurements - or better still, just went out and bought their own device! - they'd be able to produce a cover in a matter of minutes?
I myself have this cover on mine, with the standard screen protector supplied in the retail box from HTC applied as well.
jincshop eBay Store - Hard plastic case
I'm sure they'll have more available, but you may just be able to get such a case from other online stores, too.

T-Mobile Color Deception?

The story begins on October 26 (maybe a bit after). I go to the T-Mobile store in hopes of buying the ever-so-advertised White T-Mobile G1, but when I arrive they only have Black and Brown/Bronze. The representative at the store informs me of a "flaking" issue with the White they used on the phones, so they were being pulled. After some discussion we agreed that I can return at a later date, when the white G1 was available, and have my phone exchanged.
Some time near thanksgiving the white g1 was released, and I go to the store. the manager refuses to exchange my phone "simply over the color". I continued to explain that I was promised by a rep a white one, and he continues to ignore me (very professional )
After I arrive home, furious, I call 611 and ask them about exchanging. They inform me that it is not possible to exchange colors past the 14 day grace period (which was impossible considering the date I made my purchase.)
In conclusion, I am now stuck with this ugly black G1 and T-Mobile refuses to follow up with THEIR mistake.
I've emailed [email protected] the following email (somewhat just to bother them for being such dicks)
To whom it may concern,
My family and I have been loyal customers to T-Mobile for well over 5 years now. We still hold and cherish "antique" Voicestream sim cards from the days of our first cell phones. We constantly use, and love, every last bit T-Mobile has to offer. My brother and I have recently purchased the new T-Mobile G1. As a developer I am thoroughly enjoying the phone, and T-Mobile's great knowledgeable customer service of any question I may throw at them. I've enjoyed ever last moment with my G1 other than one slight defect. When I went to purchase my device, within the first or second week of the G1's release in Florida, they were advertising black, bronze/brown, and white. I inquired about the white devices, seeing how none were out for display any more as they were in a previous entrance, and was informed that due to a "flaking" issue with the paint that the white devices will be held and released at a later date. After thanksgiving, when the devices launched, I tried to go back to the store and get my black G1 exchanged for the delectable white beauty, and to my dismay was shunned by 3 different representatives. After becoming infuriated, I gave a call to T-Mobile customer support in hopes that someone may be able to resolve this issue. But alas, the representative informed that out of the 14 day grace period I had no chance of swapping my device for one of another color. This is insanity, why should I have to keep this dreaded disgusting device simply because of an unwritten rule that seems to be
holding me from my desire. If someone can please contact me about this issue and have it resolved please use the information provided below to do so.
Thank you,
Steve ***

If anyone has any information, or is willing to trade / buy a G1 to help the cause, please post here or PM.
Gotta love brick and mortar employees. I would be surprised if that email does anything for you. This is exactly why I always ask for printed documentation for any non standard request granted by a business.
Wait....
You got lied to buy a sales consultant making almost min wage? Say it ain't so....
Should have gotten something in writing by a manager...
I doubt you will get much response, especially considering how long ago you purchased the phone.
The deal really was too good to be true- I don't know of any retailer that would encourage you to buy and use an item only to return it in used condition in exchange for the same model in new condition only in a different color.
^^im with you on that. But i have heard of the insurance company sending out different color g1's. so maybe if you lose it or something like that you might get lucky. Anyways you should have waited buddy.
Hey you never know. I got a bait and switch happen with xbox support one time. I sent back a media center remote and got back a DVD remote for the original xbox. They said that they dont have the media center one anymore. So I *****ed that the DVD remote was like 20 bucks and the MC one was a lot more. Well they agreed to send me 2 full games, and I could return them to a store to get my money back, so I agreed because they had no other option. Then they sent me the games in a cardboard sleeve. Boy was I pissed. I called back, and they said to bad. thats what you go. All the way up the support line. This went on for almost a year no less. From the time I sent my remote until they sent me the wrong game back. And the smart ass support manager was like if you dont like it you can contact Bill Gates. So I did, with the guys name. I sent a nicely worded letter to Bill Gates, and I got the full retail version of the games in a over night package. So big companies do tend to listen when you go to the boss.
Guess your stuck with the dreaded disgusting device i have lol
Well guys got a call back from corporate today and I'm getting my phone exchanged
They're shipping my device today, but charging my account. When I get my new device, I send my old one back and get the money credited back to my account.
