ATT 8525 Trashed by US Open - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Stupid me. In my excitement to keep up with the latest news on the US Open at Torrey Pines, I downloaded and installed the mobile leaderboard from usopen.com. It was advertised as working on WM6 devices, and the install went fine. When I started the program, it blinked the screen, turned off my wifi, then quit. The US Open program is called MYlbCab.cab and is available from the www.usopen.com website.
Apparently, this crappy piece of code messes around with connection settings. I immediately uninstalled the code, but now I cannot make any data connections -- not over cellular and not over wifi. In fact, my wifi will not even connect. You know in CommMgr when you hit the button to turn on wifi and the little wheel spins in the middle of the screen for a couple of seconds and then your wifi is up? Well, that doesn't happen anymore. When I try to start wifi, the button lights up, but then nothing else happens. I can still make/receive voice calls, but no data -- no browsing, no email.
I have done multiple soft resets with no effect. I turned the phone off, took out/replaced the battery and restarted. I have double checked my connection settings, and I think they are ok. I have double checked my wlan settings, and they look good. Are there some registry settings that this US Open junk could have messed up?
I have been searching the forums for things like "hermes wifi registry" and cannot find anything that helps. Would some kind soul please answer the following --
-- Point me to a post that details the proper registry settings for wifi.
-- Is there something else that could have gotten messed up and give me the same symptoms.
Thanks.

Damn phone keeps turning itself on

Upgraded to the new 1.60 ROM hoping to cure this annoying problem but if anything its worse.
I turn the phone off and within 5 minutes its turned itself back on for no apparent reason. No notifications or anything. Cant be doing my battery life any good if it keeps switching on
Any ideas?
That may be something to do with the way that ActiveSync is set up.
I've had this kind of problem in the past and found that by killing activesync by using a task manager of some variety and changing my 'network' settings that the problem goes away
Please excuse me, im quite a newbie at this xda malarky. My xda also turns its self on randomly since installing 2003. you said change your network settings. How and what do you change them to? I made sure that activsync is turned off, but it doesnt make much difference either way.
cheers
I have experienced the same...
And, I've been on multiple ROM's with no avail.
I'm not sure anyone has ever found a solution.
My activesync is turned off, but the damned thing keeps turning on. Its sitting in the cradle at present and it turns on every 3-4 minutes!!!
It is Active Sync
I had this problem with my charger in the car. It is not sufficient to kill the Activesync. You would have to go to the options in the Activesyn menu, go to the new options button in the PC tab (the first one) and there disable the box with the name "Enable PC sync using this connection". This you will have to enable each time you want to sync via the cradle. I don't have the problem in the original cradle, it is only with the thirdparty car charger. I sync via IR or bluetooth and that is always available via the menu in Active Sync.
Good luck!
Johan
ActiveSync i can understand when its in the cradle but currently its sitting on my desk and still turning on at random intervals sometimes 30 secs after i switch it off!!!
Signal strength maybe?
I have same problem, happens mostly in car but not exclusively.
I get the feeling that it's related to the cellular signal strength and the device loosing or regaining the GSM connection.
San Francisco has several zero or almost zero coverage areas so it's not unusual for a phone to loose and then regain a connection while driving or walking.
I would love this device if it worked as expected but at this moment it is the source of endless frustration.
im also having these problems they are head doing never used to turn itself on as soon as i hard reset it just started to do this now and its annoying me so much
Im also having these problems . I find a solution using registry cleaner of pocket mechanic.
Bye
Guys, Check the setting of the ActivSync, most probably you will find a schedule for synchronization is set every certain time. So, you have to switch it to Manual Sync.
I think this should soulve your problem.
Sprite Backup
I too had this problem. For some reason the enabling Sprite Backup battery monitoring and Scheduled Backups caused this. try turning these features off if you have it installed.
I have same problem, its really anoying, have not found a way to stop auto connection even after changing some setting on my computer Activesync & XDAii activesync. I'm guessing theres no way to stop it.
Is there an active sync update available? I'm using 3.7 (build 3083)
For those whose unit turns on by itself, please check:
From your PPC:
Start > ActiveSync > Tools> Options > Mobile Schedule
Make sure all 3 options are set to "Manually".
From your Desktop PC ActiveSync:
Tools > Options > Schedule
Make sure every active options are set to "Manually" as well.
You can manually sync but Activesync still keeps "looking for changes"
I need for help plsssss
if some body plsssss attch the last eddition of xda2nbftools because I am living in Saudi Arabia, and the web site to can download this file is BLOCKED here in Saudi Arabia, they are blocking web sites here then u can't open it at all and no way to can download it unless if it attached here in this forum
Here is it:
Same for me too,
Mine can turn itself on almost as soon as i turn it off, its a running battle to get it to turn off and i very rarely win, I have accepted the fact that mine will stay on most of the time now and have a second battery to help me through the day,
I checked all my settings and all mobile schedule settings were on manual and all the active options are set to manual too, so it wasnt those settings causing the problem,
I cant believe the lack of support that O2 are providing, if this was an HP handheld there would have been a fix for each problem as it cropped up within a week as they have done with each of their handhelds
do the people experiancing turn ons have a card in the Sd slot? i do but i notice when the device is off...... put a sd card in and the device turns itself on i only started to notice it turning on when i got my SD card i might take it out tonight and try then?
Yup, i have a card in the slot all the time, took it out for a few hours this morning and it was no different, still kept turning itself on,
I looked a bit deeper into it this morning too,
It seems that i use it, turn it off and it turns back on 13 seconds later, i turn it off again and it turns itself back on again 13 seconds later, so i try to turn it off and the power button has no effect, i have to press it twice to turn it off, then it seems to stay off for at least 30 minutes before going through the exact same sequence again,
I will list all my installed programs a bit later when i have more time, hopefully everone else can do the same (whether you have the problem or not) then we can see if there's a common program that is on all the XDA2's that might be making them turn on and see if its absent from the XDA2's that are fine

Wi-Fi keeps turning itself on and scanning!

I don't know why but my wi-fi keeps turning itself on.. I keep it turning it off and it keeps turning it on! It's annoying and drains the battery. Any suggestions?
The phone is rooted and has JF1.42. I am not using any third party apps to control the wi-fi.
anyone else have this issue?
I'm having the same issue.. but I use WifiLock for my WiFi, and the deluxe Power Mgr in general (no settings for Wifi though).... Haven't had time to troubleshoot yet.
I don't use any programs to control my wi-fi... Everytime there is a wi-fi available, the phone turns on wifi and starts connecting...
it's annoying because it keeps loging me in and out of Gtalk!....
Same here... I bet this part of the battery drain issue
I've read on the market (and confirmed) that ShopSavvy is turning peoples WIFI on when it shouldn't be. Check the comments section for the application called ToggleWIFI and WiFiStatus, both by Andrew Schimmer. Could be another rogue app if you don't have this one installed.
I also had that issue and posted about it, someone also mentioned the problem being shopsavvy, I uninstalled it for a day and noticed the problem went away. so now I use Compare anywhere

[Q] Location/Network problems/delays (stock 4.3)

Hi,
I have some problems with finding my location, and I think it started since the 4.3 update, but I'm not sure.
I see it mostly with Tasker. I have some profiles for different locations (like home and college..) triggered by "net" without GPS, that is ment to turn Wifi on and off.
I noticed today when I left college, I opened the screen on the way home and I saw for a brief moment that the WiFi is still ON and my "college" profile was still activated, and immediately after that, the profile went off and also the WiFi. The Net location only triggered when I opened the screen, and it seems it thought my location was still in college until I did so.
When I got home, I opened the screen to see if it activated my "home" profile and turned on the WiFi, and nope, nada, even when opened the screen it still didn't know my location, only after I turned on the WiFi manually it knew where I am and activated the "home" profile (which in that case was already pointless)..
My guess is that on the way back from college it found my location when I opened the screen cause the WiFi was still on, and when I came back home the WiFi was off so it didn't find my location without it.
But if that's the case, then there is simply no point in those "wifi on / off" profiles if it can only find my location with WiFi.
I posted a similar thread on Tasker support group, but honestly I think it's a problem with the google's new location services.
What's that point? now we can get a good location fix only with WiFi or GPS?
and also why I must turn on the screen to "refresh" the location? isn't "net location" works on the 3g network? which is always on, so what's the problem.
By the way these network delays doesn't only happen with location, it happens alot with messaging apps, that sometimes I get the messages only when I turn on the screen. Is there a fix for that?
Sorry for throwing out so many questions without order
Thanks in advanced
same issue
Yah, I'm experiancing the same issues.

Random apps will think I have no network connection, when I obviously do... help!

Hey guys,
This problem has been going on for a week or two now. Phone worked great when I first got it, but something must have changed (newest Verizon update, perhaps?)
Let me preface this by saying I've seen this happen both on Wi-fi and 4G. When on Wi-fi, and it happens, I've tried turning Wi-fi off and still get the same errors.
The apps affected seem to be random. A couple days ago it was Google Maps, I was getting the "offline navigation" prompt. Today it was Chase (couldn't screenshot it), TeamViewer, IMDb and so on.
Here are some screenshots. Note the time in the pictures.
- First encountered the problem when opening TeamViewer.
- Did a Speedtest to confirm that yes, I'm really on 4G as the phone shows, and it's quite a stable and fast connection too.
- Let's try some more apps. Here's Target's Cartwheel
- Delta app? Same problem.
- TeamViewer Host app. Same problem as the client.
- IMDb. One more random one not working.
- Lastly, I went back to Pokémon Go to confirm I DO still have network connectivity (not sure why the screenshot got ghosted like that, but you can see I just redeemed items from a Pokéstop I was near with no errors)
So as you can see, the phone itself, as well as certain apps, work fine. But others don't. I tried turning airplane mode on and back off, disabling/enabling mobile networks, nothing works. The only thing I can do is reboot the phone.
Any ideas? This gets incredibly annoying as I can't seem to go a whole day without *some* app whining that it has no network access. Some apps work flawlessly every time (like the aforementioned Pokémon Go) but others don't.
By the way, that little screenshot button in the bottom left is from this neat app called Custom Navigation Bar. I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with this problem, though, all it does is add buttons.

Do you have powersave mode on? I've had some problems with it enabled..
No I don't have power save mode on. Should I turn off the power monitoring of apps as well? Didn't think that mattered as long as power save mode was off.

You could try. I dont know, what i Said about powersave profile in battery settings Was My bet.

I turned all the power saving stuff off and still have this happening. As in, I set it to not even monitor how much power each app is using.

Wifi connectivity issues

All day today I have been having Wi-Fi connectivity issues. None of the other devices in my home are experiencing this. It is just my OnePlus 8 Pro that keeps dropping Wi-Fi and refuses to load games. While I'm on Facebook or any other app it refuses to load. It doesn't matter what frequency I am on or what channel I am on. It is not my service provider I have already called and asked. I think something is messed up. So is anyone else having Wi-Fi problems on the OnePlus 8 Pro?
Do you have a private DNS active?
Same here

Mine will only stay connected for short periods. If I put it down and leave it for a while 9 times out of 10 it's swapped me back to mobile data. I've reached out to OnePlus to see if it's a fault or a known problem they're working on.
This is actually happening to me as well. 10.5.8 stock rooted. I see that exclamation point next to the wifi signal sometimes and nothing else in the house is having issues.
Okay so this is what you have to do to fix the problem. Click onto your Wi-Fi and let it go into the settings then swipe up on your screen and go into the app info. Clear your cache. Turn your Wi-Fi off and back on and it should work just fine
I have a much better fix. Change your MAC privacy setting to "Use device MAC" and change from default "Use randomized MAC". Wa la I haven't had a drop all day. This has been driving me crazy!
It might actually be a really simple problem with a simple solution, just i need to see a screenshot with the diagnostics, or the troubleshoot from the device why doesn't it want to keep the connection steady. You can actually learn all these things related to the wifi and some little programming things really easily, it is not that tough, trust me. I took the cisco programming course from SPOTOclub.com, during this pandemic, and in one month i was already an expert in the wireless connection and the LAN and so on and so forth.
If you're having Wi-Fi connection problems or see an Wi-Fi icon with an exclamation point Wi-Fi problem, try the solutions below:
Make sure Wi-Fi is on. Then turn it off and on again to reconnect.
Make sure Airplane mode is off. Then turn it on and off again to reconnect.
Press your phone's power button for a few seconds. Then, on your screen, tap Restart Restart. If you don't see "Restart," press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds, until your phone restarts.
