Need step by step to install and setup of Omapclock for a dum user please... - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi guys,
Could someone please, please give me the step by step in easy language how to install, change, edit and setup omapclock on my wizard 8125, unlocked, updated with TNT WM6.
I have tried all i thought i could but when i change speed and click on register, nothing happens, i am sure it is not installed properly because i could not understand on how to copy, change, edit etc.
Plese help!!!
Thanks,
Sam

35 view and no help???
All the views and no reply to help me??
Please someone take the time to help me.
Thanks,

No offence, but it you cant even understand how to start a program, then you have NO business overclocking your Wizard.

ashasaur, I can start a program
Hi,
I am not that bad and i can start a program, i flashed my phone and updated to WM6 with no problem by reading, and i did do whatever they said to install the omapclock but it does not work and i thought i can try getting help from someone who may have had the same problem and can make life easier for others, if i try and try and find out how to get something to work for sure i'll do my best to explain to anybody who for help rather than wasting my time to reply and try to put people down, after all isn't this site built on good will and helping each other??
Thanks anyway for your reply

Use Battery status, it is easier to configure( for me anyway)

Well, I wasnt trying to put you down...all I was saying is that, OMAP Overclocking can ruin your Wizard, and its not something that a complete n00b should do. I speak from experience, my first HTC Excalibur that I had, I over clocked it to 400MHz, up from 180, and bricked it!

Thanks ashasaur for the advise may be i miss understood, i actually installed and setup the version 4.0 of the program but when i run it and reboot my phone it still shows 195Mhz and no changes and that is why i think something is missing or i am missing some steps to get it running right.
New2City, could you please explain more about battery status method...
Thanks,

Hi New2city,
Thank yu, i found the app, installed and setup and it rung great without a problem.
Thanks again for the suggestion.

You're much better off with batterystatus, but if you get tired of using that, try the smartskey program. It adds functionality to your hardware buttons, and can also manage omapclock so that it runs automatically on startup each time. This is the main shortcoming of omapclock: it won't assert itself at power up.

WM5.o Compatible close button needed!

has anybody come across a one button close all application for WM5.0? Spb 3.0.1 is too slow on WM5 and Wisbar Advance 2.4.....is also too much for what is needed. Something like Magicbutton but written for WM5.0 would br nice, nothing that requires much memory, but something that enables the closing of running apps without having to go into start/settings/system/memory...etc.
Wouldn't it be nice if Microsoft had just written in that piece of code, as they are well aware that since PPC2000, that every application opened, remains so unless you manually close it down in memory (therefore hogging memory resources!)
Well if anyone knows of a WM specific solution, please do share.

I added couple files which they are usefull for you and they include the closeall app.
Install the cab files you'll see the close all, Reset and Running programs, which they can be clicked from the systray directly, after the installation they require a soft reset or else you go to Start>Programs>System open TrayLaunch and press Enable
GSPocketMagic++ is the most stable program I've tried. You need to put some amended bitmaps in to get it to integrate with WM5 but it works well...

Thanks guys. I'll try them both and let you know how I get on.

sub69: I don't know what kind of coding they used in that software you recommended, but it has boosted refresh rates and performance in general by at least 30%!! I know this sounds crazy but it's true! My opinion has completely changed about the speed of the Jasjar. It seriously Rocks! I couldn't care less if it doesn't stay this way, because it shows me conclusively, that future ROMs' will probably address the issues I have had thus far.
I needed this. Thanks a bunch sub69; best link I've had with regards to Universal software.
OK 1 gripe only: I've lost my two soft buttons on the bottom bar (any ideas?). It comes back and stays operational after a soft reset, but as soon as I use the 'close all' option of the program, I loose the soft keys! Damn..there's always a hitch!
Another positive though, the speed boost remains even after I have exited the program and revert to standard WM5.0 launcher!
P.S. I had at least 12 programs running simultaneously with no slow downs at all and 15 megs of Memory still available (tried to run out of memory, But couldn't). Very pleased at the moment, this is what I was expecting from the HTC Universal!! I'll test extensively before I comment further.
Thanks again sub69, u da Man!!
Mental...I didn't realise it was that good!?!
Not sure about the soft buttons, although come to think of it I have noticed they've disappeared a couple of times. Must've been when I hit "Close All" too?
Glad I could help, anyway. Do let us know how things go...

Still cannot believe it!! It's still going strong. Sussed the soft button thingy:Under start (GSPocket)/options/settings...uncheck the 2 tabs for'use exten task close' & 'Use Today skin'. That's it. It runs absolutely perfectly for me & with no need for amended bitmaps too! It fits right in wih my red or blue border themes (I only use my own jpegs now instead of themes - in the hope that I get no performance issues.....so far so good). Under menu settind tab I only select close all & setting (which gives me quick access to all settings in WM5.0..personal & system) and under 'click' tab I leave it as default 'Menu'. I'm so impressed with this software, I didn't think non-specific WM5 software coul be this good!
That site you recommended is also tops!
This software is so good that I must put up a new thread to inform all of your wonder find. I just hope all who try it get the same experience I'm getting. Thanks again sub69....I don't even feel the need for the next ROM update/grade...though I won't be turning it away.
Hmmm, not sure why you're that stunned. I'm finding it just fine - but certainly no faster than my JJ runs under PocketPlus 3.01, and the non-VGA graphics are a real step backwards. Anyone know how to solve this?
You mention a speed improvement; can you clarify: Before this, how long did it take to rotate the screen, and how long does it take now?
MagicButton (mbutton) works with batterymeter

That's the file you need to download for the Jasjar, then if you have an SD card reader, you can transfer it directly to it and install the .cab file by selecting it! If you don't have a card reader, let's hope you have a bluetooth dongle, as it's a small file then you can bluetooth it over. However if you have no problems with your activesync connection, just use that to dump the .cab file on your storage card somewhere or into 'My Documents' on the jasjar.
It's not complicated.

Yep, using it myself now - but no speed change over PocketPlus (even after hard reset to remove PP). Using it cos I like menu and PP didn;t offer all that much more that other apps don;t give me.

hi, im new and guess what....

I've got a few problems with my t-mobile mda vario.
1. This thing is sloooooow. I've got an ipaq h1940 which is a similar spec but has half the ram and it runs twice as fast :? I've run the registry tweaks which seem to have improved things a bit but after startup and active syncing im getting up to 10 second delays before the start menu opens
2. The blutooth manager seems a bit sparse, and theres no option to change the serial ports from 6 or 7 :?
You lot seem infinately more knowledgeable than me on these things so hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance
Device info:
Rom version: 1.6.2.4 wwe
Rom date: 11/15/05
radio version: 01.12.10
Protocol version: 4.0.13.23
Ext Rom version:1.6.2.105
do you have a taskmanager installed like SPB Pocket Plus or Magic Button? If not do so!
When you close a program with the above leftcross-button, WM5 only minimizes the program but does not close it. All program will just be running in the background. Use a taskmanager to close them for real.
If you have installed one and your device is still slow, i suggest overclocking it to 240 or 264 Mhz using Ompaclock, which is reasonably save to your device.
Install the latest Qtek rom, and your MDA will be much faster
thanks for the advice guys.
didnt realise you could overclock pdas
where do i find the qtek rom?
is it pretty easy to do this as ive heard horror stories about people making their devices unbootable and unable to claim on their warranties.
will try the software and the overclocking for now and report back
thanks for your help
the overclocking tips on this forum were very useful also. Thanks to all

ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Roms/
For MDA, most people are using:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_RUU_Prodigy_2170702_217_20710_TMO_US.exe
This also includes some useful tweaks and keeps the TMobile settings.
Do it now, before you get too far into customizing, because you'll have to do it all over again after the upgrade!

A copy of the "stock" TMo ROM is in the same directory, so if things go bad, you can hopefully restore it.
Or you can back up your ROM yourself using aWizard -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37386
The only tell-tale of the upgrade is that it is CID-unlocked, but not SIM-unlocked. WM5 is still there, but there a number of improvements.

Flashlight option...

DId anyone ever get the flashlight VJCandle thing operational on the ATOM??
I stopped working on it for a while. I needed a screenshot of the diagnostics program running on the atom to try to disassemble it. If you can send me one, it would help.
I know the atom boys on PDAPhoneHome started working on it. Not sure if they finished.
V
if you tell me how to get the screen shot i will happily send it to u..
Cheers
Use the program Magic SS to grab a screenshot. It's free, on google.
V
sorry actually meant how to run the diagnostics to get the screen shot
Diagnostic program should be in your windows folder. I think it's called SelfDiag.exe.
V
ok i ran selfdiag and it gives a list of items to check, i ran the camera flash and it simply asks is the camera light on Yes/no and once answered it gives it a pass..., am i missing something?
That's the one. It sounds lika a PITA, but a screenshot of the app asking the question re the flash would be useful for me to reverse engineer the selfdiag and find out what mechanism is used in the atom. I had a quick poke around, but it's full of text strings, and I can't run the app because I don't have an atom.
V
Hiya
ok screenshot attached let me know if you need anything else.

Hi Vijay!
Any updates on getting VJCandela to work with the Atom?
I'm really anxious to get this working - so if theres anything you need, let me know and i'll try my best to get it done.
Sorry Kunz, I haven't had time to do any further work on it, I got bogged down with some real life stuff (having a baby, moving house), and have only been getting back into coding slowly when time allows.
I didn't continue with the atom work because I thought someone must have finished the job by now!
What I need: an atom
But otherwise, I can't promise when, but I'll try to get back onto the case as soon as I get some time
V
bugger :\
lgood luck with everything vijay, hopefully someone else can jump on this and move us atom users forward =)

Ok so i just bought my new HD2 Just arrived last week, And Yah its freezing like most are, I have heard numerous fixes to this I guess flashing Roms or installing apps. I dont know if this thread is in the right category, but can someone help me fix the phone so it doesnt freeze everyday when i use texts and run smoother overall? I dont know how to flash roms or tweak any of these replies can someone help me please? I tried Custom window home tabs app but it got rid of the home screen so i took it out.. please someone help me .... i have yahoo, aim and msn messenger email or just reply on here ? thanks guys
try HR-hard reset.
1.turn your phone off
2.press and hold volume up&down buttons same time and turn your phone on
it will reset and restore it to the factory settings
This should help
I was in the same position 4 months ago... it's a steep learning curve!
In no particular order:
1. Get your phone and PC hooked up with activesync.
2. Learn how '.cab' files work - you basically just transfer them to your phone (I use activesync) and run them to install various things.
3. Get Resco Registry - this is a registry explorer which I find very intuitive and useful for changing registry values.
4. Have a look around this site, notably the tweaks threads, and see what you like.
5. When you are comfortable with the handset, look into upgrading your ROM. I started on Vodafone 1.43 ROM, but have since upgraded to Vodafone 1.66 ROM. It is very easy to upgrade to official ROMs (at least it was for Vodafone) - I image the manufacturers will give you a step-by-step guide.
6. Get Cookie's Home Tab!
Can you tell what ROM/Radio/Manila version you are currently on?
(Go to settings/about phone/software information)

I don't know where you got the idea that most phones are freezing, because if that was the issue this phone would not be nearly as popular as it is.
* If you got the phone from your provider go to them.
* Try a hard reset, make no changes (tweaks, software installs) and see if the problem is gone. If so then something you did is causing the problem.
* Find a stable ROM in the development forum and learn to flash, it's very easy.

Overclocking the Treo Pro is possible!!

Ok, Before I start, I'd just like to note that this is my very first Thread on XDA, so if this is the "wrong section" and what not, sorry.
Now, If somebody has already figured this out and has a source, please direct me towards it, because I simply couldn't find it, Googling for my life! But I actually figured out a way myself and thought I'd share it in case this is still unheard of.
It's quite simple really, from my research on the CPUs that are in these HTC Devices, I figured MSM7kCpuSpeed should do it, but whenever I adjusted the clock in there, the phone froze, even under clocking froze the phone, then after toying around with other clocking programs, I discovered the phone apparently does some kind of auto CPU Scaling CONSTANTLY, so I looked for a way to disable this, and found Pocket Hack Master. and to my surprise, it worked! MSM7kCpuSpeed no longer froze the phone with the Auto Scaling disabled!
So here's how to in short:
1. Download and install Pocket Hack Master, and under File > Edit > Settings > Advanced. Tick "Disable Device Built-in Scaling" then tap "Ok" and then "Minimize" Make sure Pocket Hack Master DOES NOT CLOSE! Keep it open and MINIMIZED.
2. Download and install MSM7kCpuSpeed, Overclock and enjoy!
I've only gotten my Treo Pro up to about 730mhz without any crashing. but this actually works! I haven't tested with some kind of Benchmark, but I tested with many different emulators, and they are indeed much faster!
And that's it! Enjoy!
Hi there, I tried your overclocking solution but I got a problem, when I try to run MSM7kCpuSpeed I get an error message and the application does not open. I have Pocket Hack Master running with the mentioned setting activated.
Any ideas? I installed MSM7CpuSpeed v2. Looks like the device is not supported from what I have read in the MSM7CpuSpeed thread. I have the unlocked GSM Treo Pro. Perhaps you are running the CDMA device?
Would love to overclock my Treo Pro.
Yea, I do have the CDMA version, but I don't see why that would make the program not work... Unless the GSM Version really has a different CPU? and not just clocked at a different level.
Maybe you need Compact Framwork 3.5 or higher? I dont know if its needed to run MSM7kCpuSpeed, but give that a check.
Both the CDMA and GSM versions of the Treo Pro have the Qualcomm MSM7201 chipset. The difference is the clock speed; the CDMA runs at 528MHz, while the GSM runs at 400MHz.
Thanks for the info.... hummm, I just checked and my TP has CF 3.5 installed. Maybe it has to do with my ROM. I am using Mordaz 6.5 21884 in Spanish. Are you in 6.5 or maybe 6.1? Perhaps the language?

I'm using a 6.1 - 21057 rom from RaiderFan, English.
Well, I really don't know what to tell you. this really does work... for me at least...
... Hmmm, I don't know if this could have something to do with it, but I am using RealVGA at 96 DPI.
I'm using the same rom but in Dutch. Anyways I also get the same failure report.
Well I'm going to instal another rom today, so I will let you know if that is a game changer.
edit: Tried with the 21903 and 28.... (both 6.5) but still nothing and the same error.
xXHawkeyeXx can you maybe post the details about which pocket hack master and MSM7kCpuSpeed you used for overclocking?
I do got a question regarding the battery. It seems that the apps are really draining my battery, do you also notice that or is it just me?

Im using PHM (Pocket Hack Master) Version 4.36.062, Msm7kCpuSpeed Version 2.
As for battery, I've been able to keep my Treo Pro steady at 768mhz, and theres only a very small decrease in battery life.
Hmmmm.... You know, I had discovered 2 different ways to overclock the Treo Pro, I didn't even bother mentioning the other method, because its a bit tricky and requires you to be fast, but it seems more reliable, however it only has 1 clock choice and thats 768mhz.
well, here it is: You need to download NueOverclockTest (Google NueOverclockTest, wont let me post links)
After you install it, theres 2 ways to do this, if your lucky, you can just open PHM to stop the CPU scaling, then just go ahead and use NueOverclockTest to overclock to 768 Mhz. However for me, after I did that a few times, it didn't seem to work anymore untill i started doing it the tricky way, witch goes like this.
First, you have to have PHM CLOSED, then you gotta have a way to open PHM real fast, either by setting one of your keys to open it, or whatever, next what you do is this, open up NueOverclockTest and click "ok" twice till it gets to the "Your current clock speed is xxx.xx Mhz, set clock speed to 768.00 Mhz?", when it gets to that menu, sit and wait for about 10 seconds, whats happening at this point is your Treo Pro's CPU is scaling a bit for whatever reason, and by waiting 10 seconds, it should scale to 400Mhz and sit there, if you click "Ok" while it isn't scaled to 400mhz, the phone will just freeze, now, IMMEDIATELY after you click "ok", open PHM as fast as possible, otherwise before it can open and stop the scaling, your phone will just reset back down to 400mhz...
there is 1 problem though, these instructions are for my Treo Pro witch is clocked at 528, as you already know.... I don't know if its the big jump in CPU clock that freezes the phone, but if is, jumping from 400 to 768 might still be too big of a jump and will just freeze....
now, if it does work for you, the way I check to make sure I did it fast enough, is to use Nue Clock Control to see if it says "768mhz". I also use Nue Clock Control to clock my phone back down, Because closing PHM and letting it scale back down automatically only froze my phone. Letting my phone go to sleep also freezes it.
Well, thats it! Good luck!
xXHawkeyeXx, thank you so much for the tutorial!
But it is probably the device itself. None of the hacks worked for the GSM version, I even downgraded to wm 6.1 but nothing.
Still happy with 6.1 though =)

Awww, but we can't just give up there...
Its been confirmed that both devices use the same exact CPU, just clocked to a different default level. The oddest thing is, there's no reason Msm7kCpuSpeed shouldn't be starting up, I'm about ready to hard reset my phone and starting clean to see what exactly it was I did without noticing to get Msm7kCpuSpeed to start...
It would be a darn shame, I love the Treo Pro, and want other fellow Treo Pro owners to experience the joy of overclocking.
Yea, 6.1 does seem to run better IMO.
...well, if I can convince my self to try a hard reset, I'll let it be known, just that it would be a lot of work setting my phone up again.

Yeah, but it looks like the guy in that first post has his info a bit backwards... The CDMA Treo Pro isn't the one with the 400 Mhz clock.
At any rate, looking forward to hear how that trying a different ROM goes. Perhaps it was that all along since you both weren't using English ROMs.
I'll be trying this on my unlocked GSM Treo Pro, with stock English ROM build 19216.1.0.5, this weekend and report back my findings.
Just tried with 6.5 21884 Mord4z ROM in english (GSM unlocked Treo Pro) but unfortunately the same error message when opening MSM7... maybe other ROMS might work. I hope someone else has better luck than me!

...well, if I can convince my self to try a hard reset, I'll let it be known, just that it would be a lot of work setting my phone up again.

That is some real Palm Treo Bro-ttitude!
But seriously don't! It is a pain to set things up again.
@ guilledil
I have tried different roms and nothing worked for me but I did find a program which is not that great but it does something. It's called 'speedbooster' and it doesn't really 'overclock' the phone but let you prioritize the cpu for program's. It will also let you improve the video speed but it's not that noticeable and it really drains my battery.
I think we gsm'ers are stuck @ 400 mhz
MSM failed to run on my stock unlocked GSM Treo Pro. It complained about the Compact Framework being too old on my device.
@hockeyfan: I think stock GSM does not have CF installed by default. In Mord4z 6.5 21884 ROM it comes installed. You could try installing CF 3.5 but it is not working for me in wm6.5.
@ruben__: I have been using Speedbooster for quite some time now and it does what it says... it is not overclocking but it is something. Guess other Treo Pro owners could try it. Well, we tried it but as you said, we GSM'ers only get 400 mhz!!
there's no way to overclock treo pro.i've tried many ways, but all lose.
