Boost Unlimited On HTC Touch by sprint - Touch CDMA General

ok I got a boost unlimited phone can I put the esn and other stuff I need on the Touch and used the touch on boost unlimited ? please I really have search and search but no luck any help will be great .Both phones are CDMA.

not sure how boost does there phones anymore but from what i can remember boost uses sim chips right? how would you transfer the info from the chip on to the vogue?
dont even bother anyways boost is getting ready to get terminated.... SAY BYE BYE TO BOOST... and METRO PCS here in so cal.....

Not possible, boost uses same system as nextel and they iden-GSM

have fun paying extra for standard features with metro _ its all equal in the end game. except sprint has more coverage and a faster data network... as for a touch with UbB - I wouldn't recommend it. you will never get your esn on the account... unless ur an expert social engineer ;-) I work for the company I know.

help.
hey did you find any metr in southern cal to flash your touch.. ive been looking for days.. and no luckk

While boost Mobile does use Nextel's iden system, the boost "unlimited" service actually uses sprint's CDMA network.

you are correct.
did you ever get your phone activated on boost?

yes its activated now. I can do video or what ever and its not the chip im suing the CDMA network. they have CDMA down south I have instructions. I've dont it 5 times for friends. I have picture mail, Tethering 3g EDGE, Great coverage unlimited for 50 dollars, EVERYTHING,
Its this simple here my simple 123 list
1 bought 60 dollars worth of minutes. you need 65 cause of activation fee. I got him to waive the fee.
2.get it activated BOOST CDMA ONLY, I USED MOTO c290 for BOOST. use it for a few hours. Use one of the the 13 states that have the service, if yours is not avail on the list dont try it, wont work. I USED FLORIDA NC,TX,CA work
3 call back with other phone get DEC using the back label or ##786# (new Phone)
4 They will give you your MSL code something like ##343456# change number and msid. it should reboot.
5 go to ##3282# and reset your network settings, if the net doesn't work, soft reboot twice. and boom. you got it working
This works on all SPRINT PHONES. Enjoy

its not possible. seeing that boost is iDen.

It is Possible THEY HAVE A CDMA NETWORK. And Uses Sprints CDMA on boost accounts. And they share ESN's for the CDMA service. I have one activated as I type.

Blackberry Curve 8350i phone, internet, mms no longer working
Hi, I have a Nextel 8350i using Boost. Here is what I had working on it: Native Blackberry Browser, Operamini, Blackberry Maps, Nimbuzz, Gmail, BB MMS, etc. The other day I was trying a new application called Turn Radio On. It did not seem like it was working so I deleted it even though the message said it was in use and did I still want to delete it. I deleted it. Also, I was trying to change my signal bar back from numbers to bars and may have hit the wrong keys before I hit Alt, NUMLL. Well, because of my carelessness, I cannot get on the internet, I cannot receive or send calls, mms, gmail, etc. Under Options, Advanced, Mobile Network it says Data Services On, Mobile Network 100316. Also under Advanced, in Host Routing Table it says No Entries. I am using Desktop Manager 4.7, Nextel 8350i, Boost service, and until last night everything was working fine. Except for I could never get Shangmail to work. I made a very dumb mistake! I was wondering what to do next? Should I delete my service books and then reinstall them? I tried taking the battery out numerous times and even used quick pull a few times but all i get is the Wi-Fi signal logo. I hope to get this phone back to normal with the understanding that it is a tool to communicate with not a toy. If anyone can help thanks!

I can second this. Was able to do it with a Sprint Touch Pro 2.
FYI - You guys are both right...The "$50 Unlimited" plans use the CDMA Sprint network with Boost, and the rest of the plans still use iDen technology

I have another method that i used for my tp2 on boost...
1. Get a cdma boost phone(i used w385)
2. Activate boost cdma if your within those 13 states.
3.Go to sprint.com and register.
4.Logout and re-register with same number(Disregard all error messages)
5.Log-in using second username u registered with and scroll down to bottom and click activate a new phone.
6. Enter esn for your touch pro 2 and wait til it activates.(Your not done)
7. On your touch pro 2 go to Settings>All settings>System>Update Profile
YOUR ALL SET!!! Phone,Txt,Pics,3gnet, but Sprint Tv worked once and hasn't since then.

The best source of info on this subject seems to be at HoFo...they have a forum specifically for Boost CDMA. Also a good "must read" FAQ, which tells which Sprint phones are compatible, how to use sprint.com account to swap to Sprint phone, etc...
Also now you can activate a Boost CDMA phone anywhere in the US...not just restricted areas any more.
howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=519

actually yes you can .
i have the sprint htc touch pro and i using the boost mobile $50 unlimited plan. everything works fine the calls, text, web. you can get someone to flash it for you on ebay for around 50-60 dollars. hope this helps

Boost Unlimited uses CDMA
Boost now has the Samsung Galaxy Prevail running Android. Boost uses Sprint's CDMA network and data speeds are 3G all for $50 per month guys. As for IDEN: They still have some IDEN phones that work on NexTel's old network if you want the Push to Talk feature

Unlocking Sprint Apache?!

can this be done.. i live in a country that doesn't have that phone and i was thinking of buying it from the US through Sprint.. but will i be able to unlock it and use it on my country?? does it support SIM or not?
Why not use a HTC-HERMES
You would be better off getting a HTC-HERMES based phone. most of the US phones that are EVDO-based can't be unlocked to my knowledge. The HTC TyTN 3G Phone is better every which way than the PPC6700. I've demo'ed both units and I really like the new Hermes over the 6700. Not to mention that sprint is the one of the *worse* US celluar companies out there
Thx

In a conversation with a verizon rep a few months ago, I learned that, while not advertised, it is technically possible to activate sprint phones on the verizon network. they would need the MSL (master subsidy lock) code and a second unlock code. The MSL is needed to program the phone with the phone number itself. The second code is used for deeper device programming so that it would work on other networks. keep in mind that the rep said that it is technically possible and could not point to actual instances where it had been done.
on a side note...I think that sprint uses only one frequency mode, while say...verizon uses two frequency modes (but the one sprint uses is the same one verizon uses for voice and data on evdo phones).
my understanding is that another carrier will have to add the ESN of the sprint phone to the ESN block of their phones, which is something that may be difficult to do...you would probably have to find some kind, knowledgeable rep to do this for you.
No Verizon
I'm using verizon wireless now. Before using verizon, Please read the following:
* Not only does Verizon limit the type of "unlimited" use, it imposes a quota on "unlimited" use, and terminates customers who exceed it. According to the Washington Post.[6], Broadband Reports[7], tech columnist Robert X. Cringely, many wireless industry "insider" news sites[8],[9], and countless blogs[10]; Verizon advertises "unlimited" broadand service but automatically terminates anyone using more than 5G/month (166M/day), no matter what they use the service for. This is a quota of about 15 minutes of actual data transmission time... for an "unlimited" use account. A PBS investigator monitored his bandwidth during normal use and discovered it to be 184M/day[11]. .
Taken from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verizon_Wireless
This is very tue of verizon. Does anyone know if this is gonna change anytime soon?
You can get the MSL (unlock) code from the Apache by using Bitpim. Check this post:
http://ppc6700users.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1640&start=15
It worked for me on a Qwest phone. Sprint still wouldn't activate it for me though.
no SIM but you can now change ur ESN see here.
~Mike
after my post above, I tried a few things...
here's what you would need to do :
change your esn (you will need your msl) to an esn that is in the block of the target carrier (hint, buy a cheap or give-a-way) change your esn, make sure that you calculate a checksum (there are instructions and programs all over the internet on how to change your esn). program your phone with your number: ##<your msl here># and type in your 10-digit phone number. don't worry about the dec or hex, just change the esn and program your number.
From Assoicated Press - Spring Nextel Agrees to Unlock Phones
I think its going to get a little bit easier, check this out:
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jPBoupMPJ6Tl4jgQ5aG0f8-R9KEgD8SH61A80
I'll start a new thread to make sure it gets seen
You CAN NOT use a CDMA phone on a GSM network. They are completely different signals. You can unlock a Sprint phone and force it onto Verizon. You can't force a Verizon phone onto Sprint, unless you know someone inside that doesn't mind losing their job.
Again, CDMA phones ONLY work on CDMA networks such as Verizon or Sprint.

HD2 and Web2Go

anyone have any idea if this is going to work, bc my only other windows phone was the dash and i used to use the old school Tzones for $2.99 on that.
On the same boat bro, I am currently paying $15 a month for unlimited data on Sprint and I DONT want a $30 bloated data plan, does Web2Go work on smartphones if you buy retail $450.00 ????
Probably not, T-Mobile does IMEI checks now to see if you're provisioned correctly. While you may use them on other windows Mobile phones, the HD2 is considered a special device and will require the regular data package like Android.

I'll second that answer, but more definitively than 'probably.' Full smartphone data plan required.
Web2Go will work. You have to change the apn in the data settings from epc.tmobile.com to internet2.voicestream.com. I've had several iPhones, Touch Pro 2, and now T-Mobile USA HD2 (got mine last week from Wal-Mart w/no commitment) and I have NEVER had a problem. T-Mobile doesn't perform any provisioning checks or scans that's BS! I've had service since '99 (Powertel=>Voicestream=>T-Mobile)!

Do you have the phone set up as the HD2 on the T-mobile website under your account or as another phone?
That's odd because i use to use my HD with one of the cheap plans (since they didn't have the IMEI numbers for the HD initially). However, after a couple months, I could no longer use the phone unless it had the unlimited smartphone plan (and everyone else reported the same thing on the Blackstone forum). As far as I know, Tmobile does check IMEI and it will detect that HD2 is a smartphone will not let you connect unless you have the proper plan.
Thanks for the heads up k2trill, imma buy an HD2 retail and set up Web2Go. Ill let you guys know how it goes, expect a response in a week.
set it up as "my phone is not listed" option.
I am asuming as much as we read these forums Tmobile will too so there you go - from time to time they will create some sort of firewall (by changing the options and settings) to force us into Web2Go... I want to see how this goes as I will not purchase HD2 to subscribe on additional $30 ripoff... Web2Go I can live with...

i have the hd2 on web2go...
i can connect to the internet fine..

i just put my sim card in, and was able to connect...
i didn't change any settings at all...
i flashed, put the 2.10.50 radio on there to flash and got crappy speeds...
i tried different radios but no luck... somebody got any ideas?
cuz 64 kbps is hurting my soul....

and had to change my apn to internet2.voicestream.com
3g works here/they're setting up HSPA+

Verizon compatibility broken after update?

Hey guys, I just saw a YouTube video that was posted yesterday where the guy shows that after the update he no longer could connect with his Verizon SIM card in the axon 7. Has anybody else run into this? Mine won't be here until Monday but if this is true I'm going to be sorely disappointed. Thanks for your input.
I am on verizon with no additional problems after the update. I am still always roaming, and my signal is the same (more bars but still the same reception). LTE, MMS, SMS, Cdma all work the same.
I'm really glad to hear that. I'm not so sure the guy knew what he was doing either... Lol :silly:

Quick question for you bud. I currently have the Moto Z-Force, but I want an unlocked phone that I can root and mess around with and unfortunately this phone doesn't have that capability. Would you say this is a great alternative in terms of functionality and specs? Tia

My VZW situation. Just an FYI post AND how to fix it.
I'm on Verizon, have had my Axon 7 for over a month now. No issues other than not having VoLTE, and the occasional software farts (Using Nova Launcher now). When I initially set-up my phone, I imported all previous apps directly from the Play Store. I should have known not to install the VZW apps that were previously installed on my HTC One M8 (purchased directly from VZW), but in my excitement for the new phone, it skipped my mind. Anyhow, no issues through 9/19. "Verizon" displayed as my carrier, and full access to the LTE network.
Fast forward to 9/20 (post B27 update) when one of the VZW updated automatically (I don't recall which of the 2 apps I had installed), and BAMM, "123456" displayed as my carrier and no more access to the LTE network (3G only). Later that evening, my VZW account showed my number with an "unauthorized, non-VZW device", whereas, before the VZW app update it showed my HTC one M8. I removed the SIM and shut down the phone, re-installed the SIM and re-booted....nada. Tried what seemed to be every permutation of replacing the SIM card, played around with APN settings...no dice.
My feeling is they booted me off 4G LTE once the app recognized I was using an unauthorized, non-VZW device. The steps below solved the issue (Provided by "vzwcdma" via the ZTE Community Forum).
"As for losing LTE connectivity, I've had a similar problem before, both on the A7 and other devices. On other devices, like Motorola devices, I could just boot into the bootloader and clear the modem state partitions via fastboot, but ZTE seems to have disabled that function in the A7's bootloader. So, for the A7, I had to mess around a bit with the modem mode. Download "Network" or "4G LTE Switch" from the Play Store. Open it and scroll down to "Set preferred network type", where it should say "LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)". There isn't really a set guide for what you have to do, but try switching into LTE-only mode, try hitting "Turn off radio" and "Turn on radio" (not Airplane Mode), maybe try "LTE/CDMA audo (PRL)", maybe turn off radio, switch to LTE-only mode, turn on radio, etc. At some point (I'm not sure what) the phone will reset its modem state, and should re-connect to Verizon LTE (and when it does, switch the network type back to LTE/GSM/CDMA auto PRL.
My Verizon account also shows "unauthorized, non-VZW device". Shouldn't affect anything. I've been using an unauthorized/non-VZW device prior to the A7 with no issues as well."

Good to know! I've had so many phones and this hardware looks so awesome for the price, but of course vzw isn't gonna play nice with it without some work. Looking forward to getting mine
Verizon still working fine for me.
After the b27 update I saw improved signal strength. I'm on page plus mvno. After driving in a fringe reception area, I lost lte,and I showed as roaming. It seemed to be using boost Mobile from what the phones network menus displayed. Axon doesn't have a mobile network setting for 'system b', only auto & home only. Tried both, rebooting each time, no fix. I ended up resetting phone, fixed it all. I then switched mobile network to home only, and hoping that it's done.
PS-after b27 I had to re-enable a couple settings, pinch for screen shot, etc.
Edit: it's now been several weeks with it set to home network only. I daily drive in fringe reception areas and have better signal strength than ever, with any phone/carrier combo. All is great, no more issues. Great phone!
For reference, I'm on page plus mvno, dropped in my activated sim from my old phone into the right-side sim slot for CDMA services. Then set to home only. Done.

Just wanted to see if anyone else had inputs of post update Verizon service, good and bad... hasn't been a ton of chatter in the last week. I have a phone on its way from the egg, trying to decide if it's worth starting a new sim card with Verizon and dealing with that work around... is getting the number off a display and ordering online still the easiest way to get activated?
Works great on VZW still. Love the phone.

I'd say that the Axon works just as well on Verizon as it did prior to the update, but with potentially better signal strength though I didn't really have a big issue with that prior to the update so I'm not sure (the T-Mobile SIM does seem to do a lot better post-update...but Verizon has always worked well).
I really doubt you'll have any substantive trouble with VZW on this device, especially if you're willing and able to mess a bit with some of the more advanced settings just in case a problem does arise. Here are the oddities, and I'm trying to list *all* of them!
1. No VoLTE or (I presume) HD calling
2. Voicemail appears to have to be accessed by dialing *86 as opposed to long-pressing the '1' key
3. Roaming icon is present intermittently
4. Data roaming *must* be enabled to ensure consistent and reliable data service
5. Verizon's website won't recognize the device at all in the Account Overview pages (mine still shows the last "approved" device I had with my VZW SIM - an iPhone 6S)
6. MMS *may* require a hack to get the proper APN, though I've had no trouble with this (I'm prepaid though); the hack requires a GSM SIM, so beware of this
7. 1X reception *seems* a tad weak in terms of dBm but functionally it almost seems better than my other Verizon phones (weird!)
8. Carrier label will be either '123456,' '002127' (EvDO only), or (I think?) '31000' when not using LTE (i.e., 1X or 3G). When on LTE the phone should show "Verizon Wireless" as normal
9. A SIM/modem reset may be necessary once in a great while it seems...so it's good to understand how to navigate to the "Phone Information" screen to toggle radio settings...also, I've found just SIM-cycling with a GSM SIM will often fix any connectivity problems as well...and sometimes just rebooting the phone with no SIM at all can help too (or a combo of all the above!)
If you can tolerate the above issues then the phone is great. I really enjoy it. I've found the Verizon side of things to be pretty reliable on the Axon 7, even with my endless tinkering with radio modes and other stuff, which has seemed to get me into (recoverable) trouble a few times.
Most importantly - the endless chatter on various forums that Verizon "blocks" the Axon 7 and other non-approved devices is total bunk. In every case where I've run into an issue it can be resolved on my side - Verizon is doing nothing whatsoever to inhibit the use of the Axon 7 on its network as far as I can tell (notwithstanding activation hurdles, admittedly)...many of the people making such claims seem to be speaking from a standpoint of total ignorance and it's kind of getting annoying, to be honest...it seems like the minute someone has an issue with the Axon 7, some ignoramus gets on the relevant forums/comments and claims that Verizon is "blocking" the device. Total BS IMO.
Good luck! As far as activation is concerned...I'd say it might be best to just go to Wal-Mart and buy a cheap prepaid phone or something (looks like the HTC Desire 526 has a nano-SIM and is only $37.49 on their website)...or maybe a cheap nano-SIM'd Verizon phone off of Swappa or eBay? That's probably what I'd do...But I know neither of those solutions are particularly helpful...VZW definitely makes it a bit of a pain.

#6 might not need the GSM SIM workaround anymore after the B27 update. The + sign shows up for me all the time now, even if I only have a Verizon SIM inserted.
thanks for the list guys, i think i'll give it a shot. i'm going to try to add it as a second line to my wifes plan online. is borrowing a friends imei from a nano phone still the best way to get a new activated sim for this phone?
that 526 is a predaid, will verizon just switch that sim to plan if i call in? or are they different?

found this, not sure if this is still the rule...
http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2016/02/new-policy-may-require-verizon-prepaid.html
"It turns out that Verizon made a policy change effective 1/17/16 that requires Verizon Prepaid Phones to be activated on Verizon Prepaid and have at least $30 in airtime applied to them before they cam be used on Verizon postpaid. A Reddit user posted a copy of an internal Verizon document detailing the new rule:
Effective 1/17/2016, customers who purchase a Prepaid 4G device must activate on a $30, $45, or $60 Prepaid plan and make at least 1 monthly service payment before they are eligible to move the device to a new or active Postpay account .
Device remains locked until first month’s payment is made on their Prepaid plan.
Device is unlocked automatically upon successful first month’s payment and can be used on Postpaid plan (new SIM or SIM swap).
Attempting to use an active Postpay SIM Card with a new 4G LTE Prepaid PIB smartphone prior to making the required monthly payment, hotlines the Postpay MDN (SFO 83643) . The hotline remains until first month’s payment is made.
Customers who activate on the $45 or $60 Prepaid plans and enroll in Auto Pay, receive bonus 1GB data per month.
If account is hotlined:
Data access, outgoing calls, and text messaging do not work.
Text message is sent to smartphone.
*VZW FREE MSG: Phone must be activated on Verizon Wireless Prepaid service and first monthly payment must be made before it can be used with any other service. *
Auto-remark is placed on the customer's account.
*SIM Swap attempted: MDN Hotlined. Phone must be activated on VZW Prepaid service and first month paid before it can be activated as postpaid. *"

Dang...yeah I think you're right about this. My mistake...ugh I wish they'd just make it easy! In that case I'd say Swappa would be the best route...I've bought a few phones off of there and it's always been a great experience.

So frustrating. Before update used today Verizon in upper left corner. Switched to 123456 after update. Rebooted and it went back. After another reboot it only says 123456 and nothing I do will change it back. And now when I get an MMS hangouts tells me it needs to download it but nothing happens. I never get LTE anymore either.
Edit: not sure what I did but it's back now. Might have something to do with bearer in apn settings being lte.

That's #9 in the above list that was posted. Need to cycle the modem state of the device.
so, can someone help me with a little clarification? did ZTE ever actually disable anything regarding Verizon on this phone? i know when people quote the webinar, it sounded like they were going to. i understand that the functionality is basically all still working, but i'm wondering if maybe i'm confused on the terminology.
in this post on reddit, i heard the same thing that has been repeated by some, and i am wondering if i have my band terminology confused. is the cdma part different from the 4g lte part(and that's why it's still working)?, or is sarah just incorrect?
SarahSchmera 3 points 9 hours ago
Axon 7
Doesn't work on Verizon yet. It supposedly has CDMA radios but the radio firmware has them disabled. ZTE can't by law enable the CDMA radios because they didn't get FCC approval for the CDMA radios. They would have to pay for the testing and then resubmit the device to the FCC to get approval before they turned on the CDMA radios through a software update.
And the device doesn't have the firmware for VoLTE, HD calling or WiFi calling on Verizon.

Sprint Nougat update can't surf while on call

Hello,
The nougat update was installed on my Sprint S7 edge the other night. Now I can't use the Internet while I'm on a call! I did calling and surfing with no problem before this update. I called sprint and they basically said that you can be on WiFi and call / surf no problem, which is true. But I am often away from WiFi and need to use internet while on call. I tried the different modes such as CDMA, LTE/CDMA, GSM/UMTS, AND Automatic but same problem.
Has anyone experienced this? Is there a setting or something to fix this?
Looks like I may have to go back to AT&T! ?
Thanks in advance
That is a limitation of Sprint, not Nougat. I switched from AT&T to Sprint last April and ran into the same issue immediately. While I plan to switch back to AT&T or Verizon, I've been using the hangouts dialer/google voice to make calls over LTE. This fixes the issue for me for the time being.

I've never been able to access data over cellular while on a call on my S7 Edge. Nougat or Marshmallow. Worked fine on older phones, but Sprint's Spark network doesn't allow it.
I came from T-Mobile who I truly despise so I decided to give sprint a shot. I've been on sprint for years now on and off and I have NEVER been able to use the internet while on a call. As others stated above, their POS network doesn't allow it. It was the limitations of a CDMA network, but couple years ago, Verizon upgraded their CDMA network and now they can browse and talk at the same time. Sprint is the ONLY network that doesn't allow it that's in the top 4. ATT, TMO, VZW. While sprint was racing to be the first carrier to allow 4G (which they were) other networks were prepping for LTE and setting up their infrastructure to surf blazing speeds and still talk and sprint is stuck in the stone age's. Rant over lol

Sprint actually did allow simultaneous voice and data for a while. It worked fine on my G3 (and still does, actually). But it doesn't work on any of the new phones that support their faster "Spark" network, or whatever they're calling it now.

what you said is 100% true but to add to the dialogue, the reason it doesn't work anymore is because manufacturers have reduced cell antennas down to 1
older devices used 2-3 antennas, so it was possible to use 1 antenna for internet on a LTE frequency while the other antenna was in use for voice calls.
VoIP is essentially a data stream so with 1 antenna that's the only workaround.
The last galaxy phone that did simultaneous voice and data (while not on wifi) was th GS3 . it had a radio in it call SVDO (simultaneous voice and data option)
no other galaxy phone since then can do both UNLESS your on wifi.

Regarding Sprint racing to be the first carrier with 4G (Wimax) while the others were prepping for LTE, Sprint wanted to also do LTE like the others but at that time LTE was nowhere near ready & they had to do something with the spectrum they were sitting on at that time or else they would've lost it.

Last phone I remembered being able to do this was the Note 3. Man I miss being able to use simultaneous data & voice.

Well that sucks. We should have that option it's freaking 2017 lol. It's hard to take them serious. I also keep hearing of a soft bank and TMO partnership they really do want to pair sprint with TMobile to compete against Verizon and ATT. If sprint did merge with TMO they could route calls through another frequency/band and have data sit on the LTE band.

Actually, a work-around that I've tried is using the Google Hangouts dialer. You can surf the web and be on the phone. Kinda sucks they eliminated the simultaneous talk and data.
I can attest that until the latest Nougat update (last week) I was able to be on a phone call while connecting to the internet and webex. I do this a lot due to being stuck in traffic and having to attend conference calls while driving.
My phone is a Galaxy S7 Edge. I also had this ability with my Note 3. Something fishy is going on here.
I'm really upset that this is happening all of a sudden, strangely right after the freaking software update. I want the feature back! Now every forum says that Sprint doesn't support it on these phone. BS! I am proof it did have the ability. They just took it away with stealthy maliciousness. Sprint needs to give us back the ability to use data and voice simultaneously!
I'm using s7 edge too. if anybody still can't use data while on call. try to turn off your power saving mode. don't turn off your power saving mode while you on call. off ur power saving mode before you call or answer someone. i update this reply while on call too.
I think nowaday most updates are all a big BS. just another ploy to take away all the neat features and give the phone companies more controls, limiting user ability, etc.... i.e. to save the phone companies bandwidth and data use..
My old samsung S4 can do everything after i completely rooted it. from hotspot to simult data and voice, also sim unlock... all done by me just reading xda
I want to upgrade to something newer with removable battery and microsd card in the form of a LG G5. and it's been a real PIA. first phone i got it has the latest firmwarez preventing any enabling of tethering or DIY sim unlock... Had to return it.... 2nd phone has earlier firmware so i can enable tethering. but has no way to use data and voice at same time.

Red Pocket mobile or other Verizon reseller (prepaid)

Tried using the Red Pocket mobile CDMA (Verizon) prepaid plan. Could not get voice or data to work. Only text messages. Tech support was of little value. Anyone have success using Red Pocket CDMA plan with this phone?
I was using a different Verizon MVNO and Verizon was the only network out of the big four that gave me a good signal consistently. However, my mobile data wasn't working initially which I didn't notice for a couple days because I was always connected to WiFi and the signal bars showed a strong signal. The APN that auto loaded was for Verizon rather than the MVNO. Since the APN wasn't editable tech support at the MVNO sent the correct settings to my phone. After I rebooted everything worked perfectly.

I'm using Redpocket with LTE Verizon. It works fine with the PH-1. Did you purchase their LTE card? Activation was easy enough and they ported my number in 20 minutes after the line was active

The one I purchased is the Verizon CDMA sim with the description below:
1 x 30 Day- 500 Minutes, 500 Texts & [email protected] LTE
Phone showed Verizon wireless on the display. Did you need to adjust any APN settings to get it to work? Tech support told me it's the phone and would not troubleshoot further.
I am on Straight Talk, and had the same issue. After about 30 minutes, the APN auto-loaded on my device. However, when I flashed custom ROMs, the APN loaded immediately. Maybe try a different ROM and see if that pushes the APN through.
