XDA2 user interface

i had the pleasure to hold in my hands the new xda2 for a few seconds this week.
I noticed that o2 totally redesigned the today screen of windows mobile 2003. Very nice! larger icons in the center of the screen, not only the start drop down menu. a bit like a palm. anyone seen that version arround here?

oh, and btw:
this is what else i liked:
-great screen, much more vibrant and sharp
-seems to be a bit lighter
-and of course no antena
- pictures from the camera look decent
- SD/IO slot on top seems like a good place instead of the bottom. I wont drop my sd card again this way

odd all the pictures i've seen of the mda2 and xda2 looked as if they had the SD connector in the buttom

That article is about an MDA-II from T-mobile, while in the originator of this thread talked about an XDA-II from O2.
Maybe it's an extra from O2 ?

When did we ever get something extra from O2... ? They will not even release WM2003 for XDA in Asia... Not that I want their version on my XDA. XDA Developers & Jeff has seem to it that we don't need them... Frankly, much as I'm tempted for this new phone I think I will try and resist just to protest O2's decision on WM2003 upgrade for XDA.

Wow! Hold your horses! I was just trying to suggest that the GUI might have some O2 customization and the mentioned URL shows pictures of the T-Mobile model, not the O2 model.
I hold nothing against any particular provider: they all have found their own unique and distinctive way to screw us

Ok, no problem: we have a common target then

I do know a few things here for sure:
- the SDIO slot is at the top, NOT the bottom!
- there will be some kind of O2 menu, maybe the same as their new mobiles?
- definitely has bluetooth built in
- supports WLAN via SDIO
- same connector in bottom, but different charger, so not all cables and accessories will work 100% between models i think

The factory says yes but we don't have such card here to test for it. If you're intending to use it for 4GB tf only, then I suggest you to wait for our in-house test confirmation first.

Just curious, does it matter at all that it doesn't say SDHC compatible? Will it slow down data transfers? I saw one similiar on mobileplanet, but didn't order because of that.

It has the same type of keychain, and is very small as well. But, it says microSD, microSDHC, and M2 compatible.

I've got a smaller one, £5 off ebay. Be careful though, they can bend and could cause damage to your MicroSD.

thats not the smallest one, also, it will fall apart easily, I had a few.

now this is the smalest one, mine is by adata, its also the fastest.
it's a shame you need to buy the adata one with a 1GB or 2GB.
do you have a link, I wanna get a few more, i had mine for about half a year, just want to have some more for spare.

Yeah, I think it's the same hardware. It's extremely useful for sucking off data from pcs that you shouldn't be touching, as the device can be barely seen protruding from a USB port.

thanks, I can get the adata one's in hong kong, but it's useless for me to buy the adata version with 1 GB or 2GB, i have no use for the memory card, to be honest , all my 1GB and 2GB microsd that I have , has all been given away, my smallest ones are 4GB now.
Vijay say's he got it from ebay for 5 USD, that's why i asked.

Price of it isn't established yet.. although rumors says it will be for free with 2 years agreement! Seems to me its too much of a phone to be giving away.. pre-order starts october 19th can't wait to check this one out

Def not worth trading for the UI tho its Specs are improved that's really a deal breaker for me

I thought they said it was $200 with new activation or 2 year contract extension. $449 without contract. If it was $250 without contact or free with a contract I would snatch it up.

Atleast the sliding mechanism looks more solid than the G1's mechanism. That's not saying much though.

better battery and proximity sensor is a nice add-up... 5mp camera hmm dont care much if there isnt flash still.

i would probably buy one but the only problem is it wont be on xda

Use the front-facing camera much?
So I'm in the USA, and I see a Galaxy S-like device called the captivate coming to AT&T...
I see the AT&T version has no flash and no front-facing camera. Does anyone use the front-facing camera much? If so, what for? Self pics/mirror or actual video conversations?
Any other differences between the Galaxy S (as on Samsung's web-site) and the Captivate?

Depends on your situation whether you'll be using the front-facing camera for video chats or whatnot. I personally wouldn't use the front camera for much since not many people I know have front facing cameras, too and I don't really care for it.
The only difference we can see so far is a different phone design, missing front camera, and apparently the AT&T version gets a gyroscope/six-axis motion sensor aimed at gaming. The AT&T version is also a 16gb base handset but you can add a microSD card for a maximum of 32gb.
Overall, I'm looking forward to the AT&T version although I'm bummed they scrapped the front-facing camera because of principle (Competition is too close for iPhone).

What power widget is that in the center?

Now seriously: Since AMOLEDs only consume energy when used, it would be great if the screen (in standby) could show some small visual notification. Are you listening Samsung?

Xperia Play Interchangeable Back Covers: DIY EPICNESS

I hate stock. I hate being restricted and as exactly the same as everyone else. That's why I chose Android. And the Xperia PLAY. Recently, I purchased an awesome clear case that I adore. Its much more durable than most that I've tried. also the longest lasting. A few days ago, It occurred to me that the back battery cover was fading and looked like crap. That's when I created my very own interchangeable back covers. Prepare to be amazed.

A very smart idea, it reminds me of when I had guitar hero for ds. A few questions though what material are they made out of and also what software did you use to make them?

Is there no way to clean up the cutout for the camera?

I've been meaning to print a decal of the PS logo (in full colour-PSone style!) and apply it to the battery cover for so long! Yours looks fantastic! Where did you get the transparent cover from?
This reminds me of the Nokia 3200 and the cover stencil maker it was issued with. I had immense fun designing covers!

Made out of plain old paper. Used a xperia play template i found on the net, and photoshop. If you want the image with template, i uploaded it np

I tried that one too. Its crap. The case I'm using now is awesome, except the front was very flimsy and broke after the first week
