The Possiblity to Change the memory to 128 MB

Hello every one
Is there a possibility to change the memory to 128 MB, according to the IPAQ sources.. they already change 32 MB to 64 MB by removing the two chips 16MB x 2 and change it to 32MB x 2, is this possible? if it is possible then we can change also this two(2) chips lying there with 64 mb, I read it in some sites (IPAQ) that they already change the 32MB to 64MB, it will be good for us if we can update our XDA memory to 128 to put more programs and also for XDA to have more space for the program to run..
Any memory over 64MB is never main memory. The upgrade places install a driver that makes the other 64 MB as a second storage card.
Check these guys out for memory upgrades.

Interesting. But is the chip in a socket you can just pop out? I'd really hate to have to unsolder a chip inside there.

The Two chip doesn't have a socket it is soldered/welded inside. so you need to use a special soldering to remove and replace that chip.

This is great, I check out the site and It is possible to change the memory, I will try to experiment on this and keep the forum Informed of what will happen... but still I need the special tool (soldering Iron)..

Help on ram problem

When i go into start->settings->system->about it show i only have 125.86 mb of memory im a newbie so can anyone tell me is it a problem and how to solve it
any advice ?
Good news ... there is no problem
Any OS will use a slight amount of the storage to keep the file system information in addition to the encyption or protection if needed. This is usually about 3-5% of the raw disk space.
That's normal.

RAM?

Hi all,
i've looked for that here but couldn't find anything.
My TD2 shows always only 188.50MB Ram but it must have 288MB or not?
And the storage of My phone shows also only 305.49MB?
Why is that so? and does anybody have the same problem?
ANd do you know how to correct it...
Thanks..

I'm sure there is Windows Mobile and other software installed... That takes some place...
Also opened programs, even running in background, needs memory.
So, nothing wrong...
i thought like that, too. But there is a space of used Memory of about the half always there... SO that I have Max. only 100MB free. I thought that WM and eg Sense would use this 88MB so that I have 100MB free.
So where are My other 100MB?

The moment that you have more than you need there is nothing to be worried about...
Maybe someone else can give you more details if it's so important for you.
Thats completely normal. No phones have all of their RAM free. Sense is a big hog, so if you turned that off, it would save you some. Then other things like pagepool and graphics memory take up a lot, too.
ok i understand that, but why doesn't it show than 100MB of 288MB is used?it only shows 100MB of 188MB.. thats whats annoying Me... Does it show the same on your td2?
no one there?

Are you talking about Storage Memory or Program Memory?
Storage = 272.24MB & Program = 175.44MB on my device.
Hope you can finaly sleep well now...
thanks.
I am talking about program Memory.
is that your free Memory or your whole Memory?
Thank you very Much

my total program memory is 185.67MB
total storage is272.24MB
Sometimes when manufacturers give out specs for phones, they say total RAM and total accessible, and the TD2 has an accessible of around ~185 depending on ROM
There is confusion here so let's get the facts clear.
My Device info shows-
RAM size 288MB
Flash size 512 MB
Storage size 319.93MB
This is all total amounts of memory.
Then we have-
Storage memory
Total (as above) 319.93MB
In use 125.52MB
FREE 194.41MB
And the maths add up!
However, with all apps shut down, I get-
Program memory
Total 194.70MB (93.30MB less than the original RAM size above!)
In use 82.05
FREE 112.65
When the OS boots up it runs stuff that grabs the first 93.30MB of RAM for itself (at least in the case of my current ROM). This is very ROM dependent and 'lite' versions will use less than 'full fat' versions. If you have anything running and close it with say task manager then your available Program memory will increase. But, you can't close OS processes with such abandon. You'll get away with some, however, others will affect the functionality of the phone.
Storage memory is obviously where you install apps or store data/software of your choice. Anything run will then use available program memory in the same way as the OS processes.
What figures are other members getting?
thank you for your answer, you helped me. I thought that too. but what I still do't understand is:
However, with all apps shut down, I get-
Program memory
Total 194.70MB (93.30MB less than the original RAM size above!)

when the 93.30 MB is already used for the ROM and WM, for what are the 82.05MB used when you have closed all progs...
I don't get that.. I know that WM and the Roms have to use some Memory... but so Much? when we add all that, there are 175.35 MB already used, when I just start the phone...

100 mega of memory are used for system process other 100+ mega are hidden in all the rom not based on 2.0x t mobile rom
that's correct, phone has 448, 128 set aside for graphics = 320mb.
how much did you think it had?
if you want the hidden 128 you ned to flash different rom and radio.
ok but what about the space? only 200 mb, where are the whole 512 mb of space? and how can I disable some services, because my free ram is only about 190 mb?
THANKS!
alot of the space you lose is taken up by the programs that come preinstalled (copilot etc...) as for freeing up space etc there is a good thread on here somewhere in the ROMs section that tells you what you can delete to free up space. Also SK Tools is pretty good. As for the missing storage i dont know where this goes either. We should have 512 but it never seems to get more than 250 - 300 at a push. I think some will be set aside for Core stuff and some will be the way the OS reads the space anyway (look at your PC HDD for example)
If you need more Ram then you will need to flash a cooked ROM. There is not that much you can do to the stock one to free up that much more.

correct, the system rom and radio rom takes up around 250 meg.

193.68MB Storage Size and 336.37MB program memory ?

Hi all, I am new to winmo.
I just have my leo 1 month ago.
and below is my hardware information.
ROM version 1.66.707.1 (76641) WWE
Radio version 2.06.51.07
storage memory 193.68MB (does it consider as ROM?)
Program Memory 336.37MB (does it consider as RAM?)
I was wondering why my storage and program memory is different from the official spec, which has 512MB ROM and 448MB RAM?
i have installed most of the program in memory card but i still found that 193.68MB storage memory is not enough for me... most of time i only left 40MB storage memory... anything i can do to increase it?
I have read from somewhere said window system has taken out some space from the 512MB and that is why only left 193.68MB. But does it really need 318.32MB for the windows system? if really all goes for the window system, why the folder "\windows" still count into the poor remaining 193.68MB?
Thanks in advance....
Those amounts you have seen on your device are what is left after WinMo has taken its cut. This is the same as a PC, if you buy a 200Gb hard drive, after formatting and Windows/Linux install, you're talking at least 50-60Gb less than the advertised 200Gb.
Same with RAM, WinMo still needs memory for itself, same as a PC.
So, with 512Mb ROM -
WinMo + formatting has used 300ish Mb.
What are you storing on your Main storage?

50-60Gb Windows install? I know its bloated but you'd be hard pressed to get even half way to 50Gb...

well 128Gb binary is 137Gb in terms of manufacturers' marketing, so you lose around 15Gb (on a 200Gb HDD) before you start.
Installing Win7 has taken up 20Gb on my machine with office (800ish Mb) so in total, I'd have used up 35Gb
It was just an off the cuff example to say that the total capacity is already taken up with an OS and formatting before you even start.
I found that there are a lot of space taken by HTC album and google maps as caches... any way to limit the caches or move the caches to memory card?

All the operating system is in ROM before you start the phone and when in use the RAM reduces depending on the calls from ROM, apps running and functions opened and in use.
For info I have
512Mb of flash ROM
576Mb of operating RAM
272.49 Mb of non volatile storage.
