Has anyone gotten their hands on a 12GB yet?
Works great? Any problems? Better pricing then 179USD?

16gb in june... i'll wait for that.

As we push to 12 and 16gig, I wonder if the phone will have any issues with them. I know that they will probably be read OK, just wondering if there will be any performance hit with the file system keeping track of it all? I'm no cook and have read here and there about this being a possible issue?
Holding at 8gig , I'll wait and see on this next generation. Damned amazing, these capacities in this form factor!

I picked up a 6GB SanDisk card the 2nd week I had my Tilt and I love the enourmous amounts of space... but, I am a geek and thusly a power user, and more space would be appreciated... I'm happy to see the limits being pushed and I can't wait until the 16GB cards become common place. (I like to be ahead of the curve on occassion, but paying the premium all the time isn't doable for a college student.) I'll pick up a 16GB card once they fall around $100 or so. (I think I paid $70 for my 6GB.)
-Alex

I second that. the form factor is mind boggling. I currently have a kaiser with an 8gig card. and I have more than 7gigs to spare. What am going to d with 16 gigs?!? Well .... I guess I'll find out in October 2008 huh, lol? Yeah, I know it'll come out in June, but I'll wait a tick until the price drops. Perhaps a 24 gigs will surface by december 2008. Who knows.

ya. the maximum capacity is 32gb but that will probably come out next year. i think 24gb by December.

Why bother for an iPod/Iphone after all.
I use 4gif now but mostly listen / watch the same content.
Honestly, how much % is really usefull when you stock your card full with 5000 songs hehe?

I have 8gb and thats more than amples, no doubt 12gb and 16gb will cost silly amounts of money, you may as well buy an ipod for the price,
What do people estimate, £70+ for the 12gb?

my 8gb has around 500mb left....
I have music, videos, pictures, software, all programs installed to it, tomtom with all maps and such....
cant wait for 16gb and 32
btw I got my 8gb in ebay for $50 shipped, brand new......

cdrdvdrmedia.com has the Kingston 2GB MicroSD Card With 2 Adapters for $12.50 and the 4gb for $25 ... the price fall for these "out-date" memory cards is very fast ... who wants a 2 or 4 gb when you could get larger ... I think the same will happen with the sizes that have yet to come out ... especially once the 32gb comes out ... all lower cards will drop in price... and the 32gb will drop the slowest... is my guess.
Unless you're loading programs like tomtom with all of the maps, and/or a ton of media, all most normal people would need is the 2gb card... we don't have any of them on this site, "normal people"

I agree. Once the 32gb comes out next year, the price drop will most likely be the slowest until higher capacity cards come out. Glad I'm patient. By the time it comes out next year, I'll probably have 2 or 3gbs remaining on the 8gb card I have now.
I'm also thinking by that time, a (Kaiser) tweak will be discovered by then and it'll enable you to use more than a 32gb card in your Kaiser, (as a tweak was discovered for the htc herald) several months ago.
I'm still boggled by the 12gb card. That's a lot of "stuff" on a single device to be carrying around with you. Just a high capacity memory card can doom the iphone.

The most il pay for that fingernail sized piece of plastic is $60. I just picked up my 4 GB for like 25$

I can't imagine getting by with a 2 GB or even a 4 GB card! I've almost filled up my 8 GB card, with music, videos, and games. I'm going to wait a little while after the 16 GB card comes out and see if someone is selling it relatively cheaply on EBay. That's where I got my 8 GB card, for quite a reasonable price.
flashy, once the card is in the phone, you don't really need to remove it often. Less chance that it will get lost or broken if you just leave it in the phone. I add stuff to it by syncing, or I use total commander to delete stuff I no longer want on it.

I have some songs, but I guess I'll just have to get some music videos and games .
I got my Kaiser and a 8gb card as a package deal, but my next card will most likely be a 16gb or a 24gb card.

4 gig mini SD cards.

These are to be introduced this month.
OK - they will come out with a 'recent spec' premium, but the are aiming at summer for the 8 gig.
Has anyone already got a 'pre launch' 4 gig working or know if they will be ok in the wirard?
Or for that matter, do you know a maximum capacity the wizard would be able to handle?
Cheers
I have been thinking the same thing myself. I have a 2GB card and that works sweet in my Qtek 9100. Some of the other devices that take SD cards have had some problems with the 4GB SD cards but some of the lower speed ones have worked except the camera does not seem to write to the cards. So i expect the wizard to be the same although the card may work better if formatted to FAT32. I expect the 4 GB minisd cards to be released at around the £150 mark and will come down after a few months. My advise will be to wait as the early ones will prob have teething problems (dont buy ultra fast one as prob wont work!) and it will be cheaper in a couple of months
I got my card from mobymemory.co.uk excellent card with no probs.
Do you have a link to provided for 4 gb mini SD??
Thanks
Damn! I just bought my 1GB one the other day Oh well... I guess this will do me for now, and will buy a 4GB later on in the year if I need to... And yeah, a link would be awesome, thanks

I was sure that the limit for mini sd is 2gb.

It seems anything accepting them should work with up to 32 gig
http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1141997055.html
Many other sites have been saying for ages that 4gig would ship Q1, leaving 3 weeks to comply!
Got pissed off waiting and suffering "your phone is running low on storage errors" so just bought a 2 gig.
The price has fallen so much that I paid under 60% of the sixty UK pounds they were wanting eight weeks ago.
Welcome to the 2gb club wizardragon! I know I am getting frustrated with the 4gb issue. I have emailed mobymemory twice and had no response concerning the release date of the 4gb minisd card. I seriously doubt they will produce a 8gb version as all new phone models are changing to microsd = sucks.
If a 4gb card is released i may keep my wizard as that would give me a total of 7gb memory, 4+2+1 that would be awesome!
wow 4 gig and than 8 gig mini sd!!?? w0ot we're going to beat SE and with there pro stick duo >.>. darn just ordered a 2 gig mini sd last night. well who cares! this is great news. thank you.
i guess i can sell my video ipod than. im using it less and less these days. with my kjam and samsung d600 i dont think im going to be needing it any more.
The mini SD format seems to be OK for up to 32 gig, although i doubt they will get that far as I think transflash (micro SD) will be pushed more.
Personally I liked the size of SD - as it was a viable size and its very silmilar pin out to MMC meant there were enough about for some car CD players to take them as media.
There are also car CDs with inputs for memory sticks now too.

Cheapest place for 2gb minisd plus card reader

Im looking for something like this...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOPRAM-2gb-mi...9QQihZ011QQcategoryZ96991QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Preferably with the card reader to be able to attach to a key ring like a memory stick.
Thanks!
Seems reasonable, so why dont you buy it ?
yeah..... it is cheap.... (even the price listed is less than the postal charges .... but when the bid closes will be knowing what the final price!....)
For those in the US
I got in on this deal over the holiday weekend with free shipping. Ground shipping will add about $6 to the order. Still not a bad deal for 2Gb. I paid $69.99 plus shipping not that long ago for a Sandisc 2Gb card that I managed to lose in a drunken birthday celebration. This is an 80x replacement that holds its own against the Sandisc card.

I use pricegrabber.com to compare prices across a variety of sites.
Do you really think thats a good price? I was hoping to sneak one for like £20 off ebay but I think I may be dreaming.
Im really after the card ready that will fit onto my key ring but cant find any anywhere :-(
Does anyone know when the new size cards will be out?
Did anyone notice the $46 shipping fee to the U.S., slightly less to U.K.? This could mark a new record for price gouging for shipping on Ebay.
...
Chris - if I was you I would stay clear of cheap mini-sd cards. If you read the posts where the card goes wrong its usually the cheap variety! I use mobymemory 2gb card - £40 but worth it! I can record 320 x 240 video using coolcamera with no slowdown compared to main memory - now that rocks!

As a Realtor. I do rely on 8gb, because I took pictures of properties when I go on tours, and forgot to bring my digital camera. Very handy to keep mental notes to what are available, etc.
I use mine as an iPod, TomTom GPS, USB flash drive, and as my photo album (two kids). I am actually bulging at the seams with the 8GB. I can't wait until the 32 is unleashed. I have a 5th Gen. iPod Video 80 GB, but I rarely disconnect it from my car where I have a Premier P880PRS installed. The Tilt simply does it all well.
hmm ic.. i dunno id prefer 4 seperate devices..

garmin 200 for gps
ipod 30gb for music
sony dsc-t100 for camera :O

For now i'll just keep deleting musics and movies to add new ones. 8gb gets filled really fast for heavy users.

Galaxy S III - 32GB vs 16GB

Without knowing my specific needs if anyone could help with their best guess advice
Today is the last day, my 14th day for an exchange at T-Mobile
I have the 16gb white galaxy s3. Love the phone
The 32 gb was not out until a few days after i got mine
I have the 16gb plus a 32gb extSDcard
I normally think that is more than enough combined space. I, like so manynof my friends keep only curremt music on it, etc..not ALL my music
But one case where it does matter. If I were to use Music Square, which is an awesome feature, the music has to be on the phone
16gb gets crowded. Although I could continue to weed the music down to that amount
....as long as there won't be any other issues
Can anyone who has been in this scenario think of where, not the combined ammount of space matters, but rather the amount on your phone like the music square
Will I encounter any other issues that may encourage me to get the 32gb on the phone.
Your best guess not knowing me but knowing I have basic uses and 64 mb combined is probably enough to help answer this is greatlybappreciatedin either putting a mind to rest or getting me out there to spend that extra 53 bucks
Thank You

To be honest Id spend the extra $53 for piece of mind. Better safe than sorry IMO. If you decide you need more space you'll spend more later trying to buy a 32gb after your 14days and the headache of trying to sell your 16gb. I dont dl music but i think for google music it caches it in the internal memory and not sd card. But in my case I play a lot of games and games data are stored in the internal. Right now I only have 6gb out of the 12 (I have the 16gb model for tmo). I also have the 32gb sprint but its been deactivated and it still has 19gb of space. There are times I wanna switch back to sprint just to have the 32gb again but I cant stand 3g. I would love to have the 32gb but I bought my tmo s3 at costco and they currently dont offer the 32 gb otherwise I wouldve jumped on it.

Well first they will charge a restocking fee. Second it should be fine with 16gb.. Of course it depends on usage. I personally have the blue 16gb with a 32gb class 10 samsung sd. Plenty for my needs. The only reason I would consider getting the 32gb is because the flash memory on the galaxy is WICKED fast... Loading times are great. I don't personally play too many games so for me the 16 is adequate. For music I have a combination of music in Google play and the rest is stored on my sd card.

Personally, I feel more space is always better, however, if you plan on filling the internal sdcard with 32GB of files, media, games, whatever, good luck if your phone takes a dive on you. I keep only games and apps on my 16GB internal then back them up with titanium backup on my 32GB extsdcard. I keep all of my files I don't want to lose there and backed up on my PC. As far as filling up your internal memory with games, the real question is, how long do you plan on hanging on to Plants vs Zombies? Just delete the games you're sick of and replace them with new ones. You'll have a newer, better phone before you ever start worrying about needing more space to save stuff on anyways. Besides, stuff on your phone that you haven't used or looked at in over a month should probably be deleted or stored away on a backup somewhere safe. Digital hoarding is a real problem a lot of us have to break.
think of it this way, it's ONLY $53 for double the storage. compare this to a few months ago and some other phones, they are $100 more for double capacity. i'd switch it if there are no other fees involved.
The real question should be whether or not you need more than 71gb of useable space on your phone. For the $53 difference plus $30 restocking fee you can wait for a good deal on Sandisk Ultra 64gb cards or buy it at normal internet price. Using external cards have the added benefit of securing your information in case your phone craps out our you mess up flashing a rom.
$53 these days can more than double your memory these days.
I have the 32GB version and glad I got it. Yes, $50 for basically 16GB is a rip-off compared to sd card prices. On the other hand, I'm already down to 15GB of free space. Now, I also havent' tried to save space. I have at least 2 full nandroids (one stock, and one customized), plus a bunch of games + data. I also haven't put in an sd card yet. However, I also haven't gone crazy trying to fill it up, so this is after fairly normal usage.
Disclaimer: if I had to pay another $30 restocking fee, I'd probably just try to live with it.
I went with a White 32GB from VZW. I got the day they launched, there was a promo through Best Buy Mobile that got 25% off. So it made sense to get it, it made it cheaper than the 16gb. but to answer the question, i wanted the 32gb. More storage, fast load times, and hope higher resale value in about 6-8 months..
I've never been charged a restocking fee.
You can never have enough space. Just go for it. It's one of those things where if it's on your mind to even consider a 32gb over the 16gb, just do it or it'll linger in your head and drive you crazy

Thanks for everyone's advice
I opted for the 32gb today. I did have to pay a restocking fee....$50
I had an older phone returned where I was told they had a different size. this is a little different, but I may call or write Retention and see if it can be refunded
As far as some ideas to just go with the larger sd card in place of the phone storage, that was the initial problem, the reason is that I wanna put all the music on the phone, which is where it has to be in order to use the Music Square feature.....which I like
As far as the sd cards go, I hear different things. I hear that it does handle 64gb micro sd, but that the 32 is preferred, and you may have to jump thru hoops for it to work, at the very least format it on the phone
Is that right, the 32 is best?
(excuse my ignorance, maverick or anyone, how is 71gb calculated?)
Again, thanks everyone

I've got a 16 gig phone. Installed the all my apps on the internal SD card and I still have 10 of the 12 gig left. I doubt I'll ever have 12 gigs of apps.
I just bought a Sandisk 64 gig card, plugged it in and started copying file to it. No Hoops. The S3 can use native xD format cards. The card was $54 delivered from Amazon. So, 59 actual gigs on the Ext card, plus 12 actual gigs on the int card, that's 71 actual gigs. Is that enough? It is for me.
Also remember that internal memory is generally faster than external memory.

Thanks Poit...unless you're buying all the latest bubblegum / boi band music and getting made fun of by your adult male friends lmao.... aka One Direction (awesome cd by the way)
btw I think I saw that amazon link posted on here. I may look into, just to have max space
Space to move on the phone helps the speed (question), but space on the sd card does not help the speed correct?
Like I said, i wanna use music square, where there is no choice but to have the media on the phone, not the sd card
I would consider using Google Play again, especially stored in the 'cloud' if you will (is that a generic term now), but when you play it from there it is considered 'streaming' and uses your data, correct? needs to be stored on the phone/or sd card to not be considered streaming and using data?

Difference in performance between 16 & 32GB?

So I pre-ordered a 32GB white version from Best Buy. They didn't have it on the 10th so I went ahead and bought a black one to tide me over. But I'm getting impatient for my white one.
Still not in at Best Buy. I'm told that they won't be in next week either.
But they have a white 16GB. I'm seriously considering buying it along with a 64 GB micro SD card and just call it a day.
My question is, is there any performance difference between the 2 storage sizes? Or does it just affect strict storage space.
Thanks,
Han Solo

There isn't any performance differences between the two. Unlike the nand that is used in SSDs, the storage used doesn't necessarily degrade when getting filling it up.
Just storage space. I'd hang for the 32 if you can. Don't do something rash just to have it today when in a few months you'll probably wish for more space.

Han... I agree with Wing on this one... I have a 32 gig note and I'm utilizing 10 gigs of it as of today. By the way, none of which are pictures or video, or for that matter too many games. I have a 64 gig sd card that I put my movies and pictures on.
So again, I'm utilizing 10 gigs out of the 32 gig storage that I have, that's just me, but if I were you I would wait for the 32 gig version
...Sent from my Tablet...Please excuse any typo's...
I would just have them ship it to the store and have them call you when it gets there. That way you don't have to pay for shipping, and can take advantage of the Best Buy return policies. There wouldn't be a performance issue based on the storage size. You've waited this long for the tablet to come out, what is a couple more days to wait for shipping? Play some GTA or watch some football till then. Life doesn't seize to exist because of a tablet.

Why? The 16 will be a lot cheaper and you can just throw a 64GB card in it for less than the price difference. Unless you anticipate NEEDING 96GB of storage instead of 80 somehow, lower built-in storage + external card is always the best option.

I disagree. It's $50 difference between 16 and 32 GB. You can break it down like this; If you keep and use the tablet for 24 months, it's an extra $2 a month!
I don't like moving apps to external memory, since not all apps support this feature. When I had my 16GB S4, I was constantly removing apps to make way for new apps. I hated that..
Also, the note does not have 16GB available to the user; it's more like 10GB.

So store all your files and whatnot on the external. You'd have to have hundreds and hundreds of apps to use up the full internal just on those.
Fifty bucks. You can get a 64gb micro SD card shipped for that. Keep all your media on there, apps on the internal, and for the same price you have 2.5x the storage.
The only way I ever filled up my s3 was downloading all my rdio music onto it. How could you possibly be filling up the device from apps? I've never in my Android life had so many apps I needed to move them to the card.

You assume folks that buy the 32GB note, won't spring for a 64GB card as well?!
Case in point, GTA Vice City is 1.4GB.
Anyways, if 16GB works for you, then cool.:good:

Not at all. I'm saying that MOST people have no need for 96GB of storage and could save money by getting the 16 and a card of whatever size they'd like. It bugs me when people are stubbornly insisting that they NEED to spend more money on something when they don't.
Okay, so you install Vice City and five more copies of it, and that still leaves you with about a gig and a half to do whatever with. Put all your music/movies/downloads/documents/whatever on the external and bingo bango you saved money AND had more space.
What SHOULD happen in Android is that they embrace external storage and make it easier to put stuff on the external card. What happens INSTEAD is we end up reinforcing the "tiered storage size" model like Apple and next thing you know more tablets and phones have NO external storage, and it costs $100 extra just to go up 16GB in size.
I'm not arguing this just because it's the internet and I like being contrary, it's because I really do have a reason to be promoting people getting the smaller model plus microSD.

dude, you're posting on XDA, not android4newbs. Most of us are power users who want and use more space.
If 16GB works for you, then cool. If someone wants to spend $50 for another 16GB, I don't see how that would bug you.
I'm the biggest fan of removable storage - That's why I choose Samsung, but preaching to all that MOST don't need more than 16GB because YOU don't use more than 16GB is just silly.
Also $50 is relative. To me $550 vs. $600 is not that big of a deal.
Cheers!:good:

You're 100% right. I was speaking more toward someone who thinks 16GB isn't enough and wants 32. If you want 32, save a couple bucks and get the card. If you need ALL the space, then yeah get the 32 and a 64 card, but unless you need 96GB why spend the extra money?
$50 is definitely relative. I mean I have the Note instead of the Nexus because even though I'm not a massive stylus user I like having the option and the extra cost wasn't enough for me to mind, but I stuck with the 16 because I -reaaaaaally- feel like for 95% of users it's a smarter buy to get less included storage and add a card.
There's an added benefit, too. Let's say I buy a 16GB model and a 64GB card. Then in a year a new model comes out. I can once AGAIN get the 16GB model and stick my card in there. So not only did I save $50+ on the current one, but I saved it on the next one. It's savings that add up, and afford me the opportunity to get new devices!
But again, it's about getting what YOU need. I'm sure some of you guys really DO need massive storage, in which case I really look forward for the day when these bad boys can take 128's.

Hmm. I still don't understand why you would think someone who buys the 32GB Note wouldn't put a MicroSD card in it as well?
Also your cost savings analogy doesn't make any sense--but i'm sure you were just joking.
Let's set aside microSD cards aside for a bit.. Anyway you split it; it's $50 bucks difference between the 16GB/32GB model. for someone like me, it's money well spent.

I had a lot more typed, but then I thought back on it and you do make a damn good point. Once you're over $500 it starts to turn kinda irrelevant, LOL. No matter how you slice it, I have NEVER been happier with a tech purchase. I actually was unsure I wanted a tablet AT ALL before I got the 2012 version of the Note 10.1, and that was awesome enough, but the new one? Sublime. 16 or 32, whatever. Buy it, enjoy. Is it perfect? Naw. Better than any other tablet I've played with? By a long shot. I used this thing side by side with the Nexus 10 and don't wish I'd gone the other way in the slightest.

Dude, definitely agree on that!!!:good::laugh:
I was debating on the Nexus 10 as well, as I really wanted the high resolution display on *any* new tablet.
Im so glad I sprung for the '14 model. The Samsung perks was a nice touch as well.
Anyways, enjoy!:good:

You made the right choice, yeah. Is it just me or does the Nexus 10 feel like a Fisher Price toy by comparison? The 2014 feels like an executive briefcase to me, the Nexus 10 is a high school backpack. I hate the rubber back on it and the rounded corners. Seriously I opened the box of the 2014 up and was just like "oooohhh god I want to hold it even when it's not on."
I sold my Nexus 10 two weeks ago to get this and I'm so glad i did. This is definitely THE tablet to get now and it's a night and day difference compared to the Nexus 10.

Too many apps just don't take advantage of SD card abilities. SNote and Evernote are perfect examples. My Lecture Notes folder on my SD card is already at 1GB. After taking the system into account the 16 you should have 10GB available before use. That's really not that much. The 32GB model only gives you 26GB to start with. And yes I also have a 64GB card.

I'm getting one tomorrow and was also debating the 16 vs 32 question. But then I was checking out local stock in my area online and most stores are only selling the 32GB version. Problem solved, lol.
I should just listen to my own advice - I always tell people it's better to have more storage than you need, rather than "just enough". And in this case, a $50 difference isn't really that much.
