Trinity as GPS Reciver - P3600 General

Hi Folks,
is it possible to use the HTC Trinity as an external GPS Reciver.
I plan to connect my subnotebook over bluetooth with the HTC and use map and guide or something else on the subnotebook.
is it possible?

Bernd B.

Yes it is, however you need a third party software to accomplish this. I don't remember it's name but I've done that in the past without any problems.
I'll try to find the program name and let you know...

Rayan

nice
Oh thank you,
I´ll wait for the name of the SW.

jasjar, wm5 and tomtom5

First post. So a newbie.
Got my (universal) jasjar yesterday. From initial assessment it's a great piece of kit and NOT as big many claim. Only marginally bigger than PDA2K.
However, Tomtom 5 will not install from the CD. Setup just bombs out as soom as I click install.
I have seen similar reports on the Himalaya(?). Has anyone solved the install problem. If yes, is the himalaya solution going to work on the universal?
Would welcome any advice on what to try. Thanks
hello
from where did you get it has the i-mate launched it in dubai please reply as i would like to get one.
I don't have this problem but I have seen a lot of chat about it on Buzzdev.net. I did a search and have included the search page here: http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&Itemid=&func=view&catid=26&id=2758#2758
Great site anyway to have a browse on
Hope it helps
Thanks Seal, I'll pop over and hava a looksie. I'll let you know if I succeed.
A little help from you please, I have asked this question on so many sites and forums and no one seems to know so you have the actual device might know, Can you cut/copy/paste on the key board, there doesn't seem to be a Ctrl Key, but maybe the Function key does it. Please any anwser would be awesome.
Seal
Yes you can use the keyboard for cut/copy and paste. You use the FN Function+Space keys and this combination brings up editing shortcuts
You have been the final decider, I now must order this device, thankyou heaps, I appreciate your answering.

tomtom5 now working

I have now got tomtom working. I followed the instructions on the Himalaya forum and extracted the cab files to my storage card and installed from there.
Now I just need CheckPOInt to recognise the Great Britain Map.

Garmin MapSource + Garmin iQue

I have finally cracked it !

See solution in the very end of this mesg.
See my previous post about that:

Subject: Garmin iQue issue
I was spending quite a while looking for this issue already.l
Had some help from Garmin to proceed with com port allocation.
But for the issue with Mapsource to Garmin link they doesn't reply at all.
My clue is that something wrong with RAPI interface which has changed between ActiveSync 3.8+WM03 and 4.0+WM05.
If you watch how older devices work you can see that ActiveSync launches (on PPC) RapiSrv.exe program which will deal with Mapsource by the use of QueRapi.dll.
I've looked for the number of documents on Microsoft regarding new ActiveSync and wm2005, looks like we need new version of ppcQue.
I use iMate Kjam + GPS10
If you find some fix, please drop me a text on mekel#yandex.ru.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MMMmmMMMmmuuuupet !!! I was mmmuuupet.
I found RapiUnlock a long time ago in the net and thought it should resolve the issue. Imagine I even copied RapiUnlock.CAB to Imate, but forgot to run it (not sure what I was smoking that time .
RapiUnlock will solve the issue and I can finaly sync MapSource with GarminQue app on ppc.
Hope this will help someone else.
Can you please post a link to RapiUnlock.
Thanks
How did you get Que on to your wizard? I had a Ique 3600 and loved it untill it up and died on me a couple weeks ago. I still have MapSource on my computer and would like somehow to get it to work with my Wiz.
The Garmin QUE comes with the Garmin GPS 10, it is a package. I was just looking at buying one. I already own 3 older Garmin GPS's and love them. So if I could get QUE to work on the 8125 I would be very happy.

Works fine on my K-Jam (a bit slow if compare to 400Mhz Ipaq though).
I even found GarminQue 2.80 beta in the Net. This version already properly handle screen rotation.

Can anyone extract me the Quickgps file ?

Hi,
I am using 20070511_LVSW_Trinity_WM6_v2.0.0.5 however , the quickgps isn't in there. Can anyone give me a link where I can download it or extract me that CAB file out of an EXT. ROM of the P3300 ?
Thanks for the help, I appreciate that.
Cheers
Micman
Any particular reason why you want it? It is designed for the P3300 ratehr than the P3600.
All our tests on 4WM seem to suggest it makes little or no difference at all to the TTFF times, and uses GPRS data in the process
again, placebo effect...
@NeilM
Well pretty easy, it takes about 5 minutes when I start TomTom to catch the satellites.
Unless you have another solution for me ?
Thanks
Micman
Yes you could put a GPS quickfix sticker on your P3600. Works just like those reception improvement / bad waves blocking stickers...

That is a little slow by current standards, but not bad. You do need to make sure you have a clear view of the sky when obtaining first fix. Subsequent fixes ought to be quicker.
As I said above, QuickGPS makes little difference, and is also designed for the P3300 which uses a SirfStar GPS chipset, rather than the P3600 which uses the Qualcomm chipset.
if you guys think that the quickfix programs has no effect on the A-GPS chip found on the trinity, then why do you think that HTC is going to include the same program on the upcoming HTC Kaiser which seems to use the same A-GPS chip ?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't A-GPS network dependant? What if mobile provider doesn't offer such services. Anyways, I find Tomtom takes a little long for TTF. I use GPSTest to acquire fix, then load up TomTom. Works for me, hopefully helps u.

HTC has improved time to first fix with WM6. Before I installed the official SEA WM6 ROM, it always took about 4 minutes, but now it's always under 2. I don't know what they did but there is obviously something (new radio?) that improves TFF.

While I believe the GPS chip of Kaiser is a Qualcomm, there's still a chance, and rumors btw, that it's actually a SiRF-III. I know it's weired - but no one is able to confirm anything on the Kaiser - even for those guys who already got one. The only thing for sure thus far is that existing SiRF-III utilities do NOT run on Kaiser - but still it can't proof that it's a Qualcomm or it's definitely not a SiRF.
BTW, mind you that the chip on the Kaiser is different from that on Trinity. So we don't have a conclusion here yet. And you know, HTC has the past history of disabling Trinity's GPS chip in its earliest roms releases - that's make speculations difficult.
Merely giving the program the same name of "quickgps" doesn't mean anything either. If it's a SiRF, then it's something natural; but if it's a Qualcomm, I bet they would still call it quickgps instead of something like "qualcomm quickgps" for sake of simplicity.
GPS of Kaiser is a GPSOne Qualcomm I've looked into Kaiser registry. That GPS is inside MSM7200 Chip of Kaiser.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\GPSOnePort]
"InterfaceType"="COMM"
"FriendlyName"="QualComm GpsOne Card, version 0.0"
"CommPort"="COM1:"

I think there are some little chance to port QuickGPS application from kaiser to trinity
For Guybrush
Hello,
Look at this documentation of the chipset qualcomm 6275 on p3600 :
http://www.cdmatech.com/products/msm6275_chipset_solution.jsp
gpsOne® position-location assisted-GPS (A-GPS) solution
So may be HTC have not delivered the driver for Gps One !!!
The question of "the p3600 have à Gps-one capability"
The Answer is YES !!!

@++++
I know... theorically should be the same... but it's not sure that GPS Driver of Kaiser seem different from the one inside p3600... but I think there some little chances to make quick gps working also in p3600. I tried to port Quick GPS application, drivers, registry settings from Kaiser ROM but when I launch Quick GPS Application, it gaves me an error like "Cannot create empty document" and I haven't understand the cause but maybe i missed something and someone more expert than me can have a better luck doing it
So after all we might have a chance to import QuickGPS from the Kaiser to the Trinity effectively....
Let's work hard guys

This thread might help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324222
This works in my trinity with Italian udk 4.0 ROM.
It Wants HTC Homeplug and a little traslation.
Guybrush can do you do?
It's like the cab i did, just I missed one file, now I'll try
I remember thaht in my original ROM this cab doesn't work. It gives the same error that have you.
Now with this rom works.
I don't understund what's the problem.
I Haven't tried with your ROM.

Hi, Nazeroth
GPS is disabled until you run the GPS aplication, like TomTom 6 or similar.

Mate i indeed worry
because there is no bloody way to enable it! TOMTOM cant find it, when i hit the GPS icon in IPAQ WIreless it shows some help instead of activate de-activate...
some advice?
The solution for your TT6
Hi again,
If you do the registry hack then you have an icon in your Start/setings/system folder is it wright. If so then you tap on GPS icon and set up your GPS. GPS "Programs" set to NONE, "Hardware" set to COM7 and baudrate set to 57600, "Access" untick the "Manage GPS automatically" thats mean you must disable this function. This is it. Try this and TT6 must work on first try. The only bad thing is that you must be outside the house. Good luck.
Best regards,
Drahtman
P.S.: If you have English ROM for hw6915 please send us the link
Thanks mate,
Indeed i discovered yesterday after some 10 hours of fiddling that the GPS cannot be activated trought IPAQ Wireless (it only shows the status)
that the bloody gps icon is hidden in the registry (I also found an equalizer for the audio hehe)
and that TOmTom will force the GPS on once you have a map and after some 10 minutes will find satellites.
HP chat told me to send the unit for repairs (Good support dont they )
Anyway thanks it helped understand the virtual GPS feature, BTW mine is French version and has TT 5.3 not 6. and it gets along very well with WCE gps management
Heloo GPS man !
I am here for help. I learn a lot from this forum, so this is my payback to others with strange GPS problems.
