FM Radio for wizard/mda vario? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Is it possible to use the wizard for a fm radio? I have read some diff. threads but haven't been able to come up with a answer about the wizard. Any help would be great.
Thank You, Great site I've learned alot !

No it's not

(removed the answer)

fm radio are analog signals based around 87.5 to 108.0 MHz
gprs/edge/umts are digital signals based around 900Mhz -> 2Ghz
options are to get a SDIO fm radio card
or get a wired headset with radio integrated

Thank You for the great reply Rudegar. Any suggestions on were to find?

DOnt some of the newer HTC phones have fm radios?

yeah they use an extre chip on the pcb to handle it i believe
some people believed the transiver was onchip on the newer Qualcomm
cpu's but as i dont show on their cpu blockdiagram i'd asume there
is a special chip on the pcb
it have nothing to do with the gsm radio
they dont even seem to share antenna
an with the new touch cruse it use the wired headset as antenne so it dont work
with bluetooth headset or using the pda speaker only :S

>an with the new touch cruse it use the wired headset as antenne so it dont work

Like with most/all fm enabled phones...
surely fm radio and better camera are the only thing wizard is missing in my oppinion

FM Radio

I see that a lot of devices these days have FM radios built in.
Can the XDA be programmed like this, or does there have to be some piece of hardware built into the device?
I cycle to work approx 20-30mins (depending on my mood!). Thats where the MP3 is brilliant. But the unpredictability of the radio is better. Any answers much appreciated.

you can get a memory card that works as a fm radio and you can listen to the radio on the net but its expensive using the net.
Where can you get an SD-card that works as a radio for the XDA?
programming
I was hoping that it was just the matter of writing some code.
After all the XDA does have an aerial built into the device!
Martin
While an aerial is an important part of a radio, you will need to connect it to an FM receiver circuit and then to the audio circuits to actually be able to hear anything. The aerial in the XDA is used for GSM/GPRS, which is digitally transferred on 900/1800/1900MHz. FM radio transmisions are usually found in the 80-110MHz band and are analog.
SD FM Tuner
Check out this link: http://www.ibizcorp.com/pda_accessories/reviews/palminfocenter sdio info.html
Sorry, SDIO cards do not work in the XDA I, so the SD radio tuner will not work.
it's for Palm OS only.... :?

Can you listen to the Radio on the XDA-1?

Hi,
Is it possible to listen to the radio on the XDA-1 (wallaby) ?
Most mobiles have this feature, I was wondering if it can be enabled on the XDA-1?
Max
few mobil telephones have FM radio really
and no even though you can get SDIO cards with fm radios then xda1's dont support SDIO
but you can use headsets with FM radios in it along with any device
FM and GSM are very very very very different
so having a GSM reciever dont give you the ability to recieve FM radio
it require a special chip which the cellphones which do have FM radios have
much like you cant use your normal tv as a gps reciever
or your tv satelite disc as cellphone
Thanks for that.
If the Wallaby has a SD slot, you could use a SD FM radio card like this one.
Thanks. but the xda only has a sd slot (not an sdio)

FM Radio Please,,,

I'm sure i've spotted within another thread a picture of the board inside the artemis and trinity which basically showed them to be v similar... and an fm chip on the trinity board.
i'm going to be getting a trinity - probably the m700 when it hits the shops in london - but don't understand this fm radio thing (it would complete the product!)
does the dopod model not have fm radio on it's variant? if so, surely all trinity's do, no? is a variant not all about branding and software as opposed to the actual tecky stuff inside?
also, supposing the trinity doesn't have this fm chip... can we not get a plug which has the tuner on it then we just install some kind of software? - i'm thinking of these ipod remote controllers which give an ipod radio functionality.
great to see the gps problem solved - even if by way of leaked room - but lets finalise the trinity with an fm radio too!!
Sorry dude, no FM radio
Don't know about the plug, don't think it exists
official statement of HTC after question for FM Tuner:
That is correct with regard to GPS we are still awaiting an update to enable this on your device.
The P3600 does not have an FM receiver. There is one in the P3300.

FM Radio For Gene.

Hi Guys,
New to the world of pda phones - using my first one now, so excuse if this sounds like a silly question.
I would like to know is it possible to adapt the Radio ROM of a Gene to act as a FM Radio receiver???
How come there are pda phones with FM Radios built into them?
Seen forums recommending SDIO card add-ons for FM radio applications, but thts an accessory.
I would like to know if this can be done and if yes how pls
fm radio is analog signals around 100Mhz cellphones recieves digital signals around 800Mhz->1900Mhz software cant change that....

FM Radio on Leo without headphone!

hi all
I've heard that Leo can play FM Radio without headphone work as an antenna? I wonder at it?
Is there anyone can confirm that....
Thanks!
Negative m8, Leo's FM Radio needs enclosed earphones handset to operate as an antenna.
I would love the day the manufacturers could put in a antenna to allow use of the FM radio without putting in a headset.
I hate using a wired headset.
Try one of these, no need for headphones and a bit cheaper!

Its a phone ffs, lol
Mind you they are getting bigger, so one day you could have a £500 fm radio with built in antenna.

i dont think its as easy as just putting radio antennas inside a body of a phone.
one might have to think about interference to/from the phone antenna, wifi antenna, bluetooth antenna, gps antenna and any other antennas already present in the phone.
I don't think it's even physically possible to make an antenna small enough to fit in a phone which is sensitive enough to receive low-frequency signals like radio.

Mmm..I dont know how to say but I just heard that from someone. They said Leo could play FM Radio without headphone in new coming Rom update. Any Mods here knows it?
It is not a bad ROM, it is because of radio-frequencies all need antennas that fit their special wavelength to work.
If you use radiowaves you can use antennas that are only half or a quarter of the wavelength, so 10cm waves need 2,5 cm or 5 cm antennas.
Radiowaves in FM are about 4 m wavelength, so you need 1 m antenna!

The FM Radio tool from the HTC Debug Tools (On the prototype phones) does work without earphones.
Also tried the tool in my release phone, als also there the fm radio worked without earphones....
just a few more months and the Sony Ericsson MW600 headset will be availlable with build in FM radio.. I have a SE HBH-DS220 at the moment and it works great sound is awesome..
I wish we could enable audioboost with A2DP

does it recived channels and you could hear it without head phones
i don't bother the built-in FM radio. Try use WunderRadio. Internet-based radio. Of course you need unlimited data plan for this to work.
Some walkman phones have built in fm antennas like w960, and some cheap chinese phones too, i don't remembor which one though, i read their test on mobilearena long time ago, so if it is possible.

That's great, except when you are on the move and lose data coverage which is exactly what makes the FM radio useful.
I just had the july 8 nrg rom in and the fm tuner would open & receive a few channels with NO wired headset plugged in & played it though the speaker..
I want to know if the fm tuner capabilities are based on the rom in general or a specific "fm tuner driver"
Currently on kumars 2.4.1 and of course the fm wont open without a wired headset plugged in : (
