FM Radio Please,,, - P3600 General

I'm sure i've spotted within another thread a picture of the board inside the artemis and trinity which basically showed them to be v similar... and an fm chip on the trinity board.
i'm going to be getting a trinity - probably the m700 when it hits the shops in london - but don't understand this fm radio thing (it would complete the product!)
does the dopod model not have fm radio on it's variant? if so, surely all trinity's do, no? is a variant not all about branding and software as opposed to the actual tecky stuff inside?
also, supposing the trinity doesn't have this fm chip... can we not get a plug which has the tuner on it then we just install some kind of software? - i'm thinking of these ipod remote controllers which give an ipod radio functionality.
great to see the gps problem solved - even if by way of leaked room - but lets finalise the trinity with an fm radio too!!

Sorry dude, no FM radio
Don't know about the plug, don't think it exists

official statement of HTC after question for FM Tuner:
That is correct with regard to GPS we are still awaiting an update to enable this on your device.
The P3600 does not have an FM receiver. There is one in the P3300.

Jarvis
problem is that it dont have normal SDIO slots if it had

another option is that many headsets you can buy
comes with FM radio included
well maybe not many but you can get em
Radio possible P3600
The motherboard of the P3600 has an emplacement for a FM Radio chip, but most Trinitys do not have it. I believe somewhere in the world some company sells them with the FM Radio chip. Before buying I could have sworn that I saw it somewhere and since I have seen photos of the trinity motherboard with and without the FM Radio chip - on a French site PPC Cool - can't find the post right now.

FM Radio For Gene.

Hi Guys,
New to the world of pda phones - using my first one now, so excuse if this sounds like a silly question.
I would like to know is it possible to adapt the Radio ROM of a Gene to act as a FM Radio receiver???
How come there are pda phones with FM Radios built into them?
Seen forums recommending SDIO card add-ons for FM radio applications, but thts an accessory.
I would like to know if this can be done and if yes how pls
fm radio is analog signals around 100Mhz cellphones recieves digital signals around 800Mhz->1900Mhz software cant change that....

FM Radio for Elf

Hey
Is there a cab of FM Radio for Elf??
Thanks
The Elf does not have fm radio, never has, never will. It is not capable as it does not have the hardware; however, if you want to try it anyway - Try the FM Radio cab for the touch diamond.
I have already trying this but it doesn't works... Thanks for your fast answer
Sorry, It doesn't work because it can't work. As I said before, No hardware in the elf for FM Radio.
If you have a good data plan - Use can listen to internet radio. This is what I do and I get much better selection of music to listen to with no *(or hardly any) commercials.
Ok, good idea
i know that there is no hardware in the elf but is there a mod you can do to add the hardware inside the phone? or is there a mini usb attachment to give you fm?

FM Radio?

Has anyone been able to find out if the PRO has a radio in it like the X and D2?
http://androidcommunity.com/activate-the-droid-2’s-fm-radio-yes-it-has-one-20100927/
Common sites say Yes for FM Radio, but after I checked pdadb.net and motorola's developer site for Droid Pro specs - both the sites do NOT indicated FM Radio.
Now it all remains on someone who's bought the device and can let us know.
I own a Moto Pro
How can I check? (Without opening it or voiding my warrany)

Just plug in your headset and look for the FM Radio app in Menu. If it exists then Yes there is a FM Radio if NOT we have the answers.
FM Radio within TI wlan/bluetooth chipset
Hi Droid Pro Users!
There is a light in the dark for FM Radio fans.
I just found this info from TI about the on board chipset TI 1271
----------------
There are four solutions in the WiLink 6.0 product
offering. The WL1271 supports 802.11b/g/n in
the 2.4-GHz band, while the WL1273 supports
802.11a/b/g/n with 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz band
support. Both single-chip solutions support
Bluetooth 2.1 Release, ANT and FM transmit and
receive. The WL1271/3L support in addition to
the above, Bluetooth Low Energy Specification
4.0 + EDR.
---------
You will find all info here:
focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbuproductcontent.tsp?templateId=6123&navigationId=12762&contentId=29993&DCMP=WTBU&HQS=ProductBulletin+OT+wilink_6
That means the Droid Pro hardware is able to receive FM Radio and maybe also to send, but receiving would be good enough for me.
Now... who is able to build the necessary drivers?
I would love to do it but I have no idea how ;-)
Maik
Very interesting indeed!
When/if built the software and drivers would be brilliant. Maybe moto can do it if requested by many of us?
In the meantime I use tunein radio app from market, which works well using my data connection, network or wifi.
Sent from my DROID PRO using XDA App
I could bet that Motorla don't care about it.
As far as my experience with Moto is...
- they know that the chip is able to do it.
- they thought they can make it work
Result...
- maybe reception is too bad because of design flaws (chip or antenna position) -> they decided not to offer it
- maybe the marketing gang thought a FM radio is nothing for a business phone...
Anyway... I would take it even with a bad reception, but I'm sure they will not offer it.
An internet radio is not allways a good solution. You need an unlimited data plan and also a good reception. I made bad experiences during train travel and also in areas with lower reception. It sucks...
I want a real radio, please
If the transistor which taks care for FM radio is phisicaly connected, so that can use headphones as the anttena, then it is possible to have FM radio on your phone. Here is some new stuff that XDA user mikereidis have discovered about TI WL 127x chip. Maybe some developer is interested.

FM radio?

Hi guys,
How do we know fm radio chip is not connected? Is there any document confirming that or did any one opened the phone to check that? I have seen a thread where people were talking about enabling disabled fm radio in different phone.
Regards,
ncc74656
Well, there's a binary (in /system/bin/ but I can't remember its name) that communicates with the FM radio driver. And when I was playing around with it, there are some options like changing band or checking info, info was null (or no signal)...
So I guess we really can't make FM radio work just with software.
Maybe that binary came from an early Defy ported Rom, along with the driver, I don't know...
Please link the other thread you saw.
Sent from my Milestone 2 XDA App
as i read on development forum: "milestone 2 has the hw to play fm radio, its 'just' not wired. so unless you're crazy enough to open your phone and wire it yourself, no fm radio for milestone and that's it"
I don't know how is it about hw side - except the information already mentioned in the post above.
I only tried fm tuner binary, application and library pack from driod 2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769894), but without success - the radio application didn't even correctly started - I thought it will work, but only without signal - 'cause it is not wired to antenna...
I agree with post #2 - unfortunatelly it is shame, but it is - i think - impossible to get it work only with sw way... But I'm also still interested in some prove or source about fm tuner hardware situation in Milestone 2..
Download and install Tunein Radio. It's the best choice...trust me (at least here in Brazil).
