$350 and no way (program) to lock contacts? memory prob, etc Wing (tmobile) - Wing, P4350 General

greetings to all, i'm happy i found this site after all this time,
it's ashame that i have paid over $300 for my last 2 cell phones each and neither one has a seperate lock for emails and contacts. I currently have t-mobile wing and before i had Dash. It's crazy because i use to have a $99 audiovox phone which enabled me to separetly lock my contacts, email, text messages with a simple 4 digit password. My t-mobile wing allows me to lock the entire phone but not separate apps. like mainly i want to lock my email, text, and contacts. But, i don't want to have to type my email password everytime i wish to read an email, a simple 4 digit code is enough. Anybody know of any programs u can download to fix this problem?
i have a touch screen and a co-worker was lookn at my phone, mistakingly tapped the screen an my email just opened, i recently sold a monitor on craigslist which gave many spammers my email so some male enhancement email popped up when the co-worker tapped it, he got a good joke in. same thing with text, 1 tap and u get access to all my text messages, personal and private. I don't understand how my $99 audiovox phone had seperate ways to lock contacts, pics, text, call logs, etc. but my $350 t-mobile Wing doesn't have a way to individually lock different programs, I have to lock to entire phone.
so if anyone knows of any programs to do so please help me. My ex-went through my phone and called several females (the list including 2 cousins and my supervisor) thanks
i just got my wing a few weeks ago, after a few messages bout low memory i purchased a 1gb storage card, i immediately transfered a couple programs, music, and pics over to it. I really don't have much running on my phone no knew programs on the main storage and only about 80mb on the 1 gb storage card. So i thought i was good to go! so i sync a small 40mb vid from my pc to phone, go to work, i have some funny stuff to show my co-workers.i keep trying to open the video, it plays for a second then i get some message about unable.because of memory.i can't recall the exact message. so i had to close and press play about 5 times b4 the vid would finally play, when it played it played very slow, staggering/moving in slow motion. I stopped all programs except windows media in task manager.
oh, and how about the time i was ready to record (video) of some co-workers before Christmas break and I got the unable to open camera because of memory message.nothing was running in task manager, i had to power off phone and then i was able to record my restless co-workers who didn't want to be on camera from the start.
Is there any way around all these memory problems with the Wing? i don't use many programs and all pics, small vids, ringtones are on my 1gb storage card, i get memory error messages even when internet explorer and messages aren't running.
any other Wing tips, links, tweaks, etc... is appreciated, i see alot of wing topics on this site! thanks

There are a couple of programs out there that will lock your phone the way you want.
Try this link for a few ideas.
http://www.handango.com/SoftwareCat...teId=1&osId=1063&osId=1063&N=4294912165+95886
The reason you get the memory problem is because of a memory leak problem in the Tmo Stock Rom.
The memory problems you are having aren't because of "hard drive", they are because of "RAM" if you were to compare ur PPC to a computer.
I would suggest you upgrade to one of the roms. If not, just make sure you are always closing out programs after your done with them, because ur task manager settings may be to minimize programs when you hit the X, instead of closing them out.

I too have the same dilemma. There is only one lock for the entire device. Although there are apps that allow you to encrypt information, I have only been able to find where they encrypt within that application (e.g. files and documents, or passwords, PIN codes, credit card info, etc.), not the individual components of WM6 (e.g. calendar, tasks, or contacts). Currently I am using FreeOTFE to encrypt sensitive data, but it is outside of the WM6 core functionality.
Another annoying issue with one lock is that in order to use the phone you have to unlock the device every time you want to dial out. It would be nice to be able to lock just the PDA functionality and have the phone functionality stay unlocked.
I looked through the apps suggested in the Handango link above, and none appear to address this scenario. Any other suggestions?

thanks for all the responses!
Teutonics i'm with you! i didn't see anything on the link provided that addressed this issue, also i was looking possibly for a freeware application but i can pay if nec. i just don't feel like paying is nec. when i've already dropped $350 for something that I KNEW WOULD COME WITH A SMART PHONE................Considering smart phone owners usually have some type of business about themselves (legal or illegal) how could you not include an application that protects contacts, text messages and emails.....................i don't get it, a $99 audiovox phone had all this crap but my $350 wing and my old Dash don't. I don't know if Blackberry comes with those options but at times i'm wishn i would've went with blackberry, their users seem to be less agitated. between my Dash and now Wing, i've spent over $500 in 2 months of phones, so it looks like i'll be staying put with Wing for a while.............i just hope i can find more tweaks to meet my needs. advice and links are appreciated!! thanks

im a wing user too!!
had the same problem before.. thats because of the memory leak..
Ive flashed a rom.. touch-it or oen touch is great... (put that in the serch box**) flash your rom and your memory problem will be solve

Hard reset over SMS? Can it be done?

Hello all,
So... bad news has befallen me. I've lost my Hermes; someone else found it and called Mexico city a bunch of times. This is the first time I've ever lost a cell phone in the many years I've carried one.
As I wait for my replacement to arrive I'm wondering what is happening with the data that is on the old one...
I know I can't do anything about the one I lost, but I can think about the next one.
So here is the question: Is there any programs that can wipe the memory card, and hard reset a PocketPC phone when a "special" SMS message or a series of messages shows up? I am hoping to find some way that I can wipe the data off a lost phone, but without a timer running the background that has to be reset.
Thanks in advance!
its highly unlikely, coz if such a thing existed anyone can flash anyone phone by sending an sms, but if have installed some anti theft program it will send a silent sms to u with some info of the cell tower the phone is using..for now get the phone and imei barred by ur service provider
I've already disabled them.
I was thinking of something that would allow you to set a random password to make the phone reset. I'm not having much luck finding one... maybe I need to write one when I have free time...
Is there a way in the WM5/6 APIs to cause a hard reset?
EDIT:
Apparently there is a way: http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/hardreset.html
Now I need to figure out how to put a hook into the SMS receiving code.
I DONT THINK U CAN HOOK THAT UP THROUGH sms.. sorry about caps
If you have an exchange server 2007 account you have the capability to wipe all data from the PPC.
Also, see this product: http://www.motionapps.com/msafe/_treo700w.jsp It is currently listed for specific devices, but it demonstrates the capability you are looking for and they have a free trial...
Hrm...
I went and looked at the MS video here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/business/directpushemail.mspx
And this IS the functionality I'm looking for.... BUT I don't think I want to set up an exchange server.
I doubt my phone would play well with a server that is running on my laptop

Ahh HA! very nice find!
I hope it works on the new Hermes. I'll try it tomorrow when my replacement phone gets here and report back if it works.
I have not tried yet but it seems very cool.
It can do a lot of things by sms control included the hard reset
Eye on thief:
http://www.mycnknow.com/LockAppen.htm
Here's what I don't get with that program...
I'm on Cingular... my settings and whatnot are for Cingular. If the thief has T-mobile, or orange, or whatever... will the SMS still get sent?
You have to enter the "alert" phone number with full access codes, preferably with country code. If the thief can use the phone with his SIM card, it will work. I don't know about the US, but in Europe it's no problem to send a SMS from one carrier to another.
Here's another program doing basically the same:
http://www.pocketpc-live.com/ultimate-theft-alert-v3-for-pocket-pcs-2.html
Remote Protect works as well...
you can lock your phone with an sms, unlock with sms, hard reset as well...
i'm using it on my Dopod 838pro with no problems.
It also has the ability to send you an sms telling you that your phone has been stolen and provides the Thief's IMSI number and your phone's IMEI as well. Once you receive the sms from the Thief's SIM card, you get his number. From there, you can send the Hard Reset/Lock format to his number and it locks the phone.

[Q] Text messages in android and windows mobile?

Sincere apologies if this has been asked before but I couldnt find it.
I would like to use android for daily use but have been put off by the MMS problems and the constant need to disconnect/reconnect data when trying to surf etc.
I would be more inclined to use it if would save my text messages in such a way that I could get them in both winmo and android?
So if someone send me a text in android, when and if I boot into winmo, I would be able to see it there as well?
Is this possible?
Thanks in advance
Bumpity Bump?
the only way to do this is to save them to your sim card (i think)
Which is what I am asking! I want it so when i use winmo my messages are there ready, and when i boot into android my messages are ALSO there.
Im looking for a way to save texts to storage card, and them to be accessible by both winmo and android. Is this possible?
Don't think so.. Not by default..
Someone could develop a system that uploads all texts from WM to an online database (or local datastores like SD) and then sync it in Android again.. And the other way around..
One solution is to use an application like SMSBackup (Android) or Windows Phone (i think of was called) to upload sent and received messages to a cloud service (like gmail).... I can't think of one that bridges both operating systems though.

Would that kind of program be hard to create?

I think the main obstacle here is the demand. I don't think this is a major concern for the devs out there.
really? i find that hard to believe. there are lots of people using android and winmo dual boot. being able go have texts etc available on both OS's would be very useful to a lot of people.
I for one would find this type of app useful!

I was syncing 6000 sms in WM with MyPhone. Every single ROM was becoming slow after that. Keeping sms in WM is a no-go for me now.
Working my way to that amount in Android but from just having a few hundred you can see the small delay in loading the pic of the contact in the sms list.
I think you misunderstand me a little.
I dont keep every msg I have ever got sent. But i do keep them for a month or so. I am looking for a way to store ALL my text messages (automatically) onto my SD card and have WINMO and Android be able to recognise they are there on boot up.
At the moment if someone send me a msg in android, the message is not in WINMO which makes it difficult to track conversations.
I hope that clears it up a little.
sprint migrate maybe, but you'd constantly be having to convert back and forth, not even too sure if it can do sms!!!
just to add to the amount of demand: this would be very helpful to me too!
I use WM most of the times, because I also have some mobile apps running I need for work. Everything works great. Next to that I have android installed. The problem is: I can't have two databases of text-messages. It would get too confusing after a while. So I can't have text messages coming in while in Android-mode (since I wouldn't be able to see them in WM). Phone-calls and email are no problem off course, neither are contacts. Only these text-messages trouble me...
If both databases could be sync'able or mergeable automatically, that would be grrreat!
Now, who can make it happen? (I wonder...)
+1 Ditto! It's the only reason I haven't switched (plus battery-life, but I think I can make that manageable if texts are fixed)
I rarely ever keep text messages and wonder why unless they are really important why people would want to keep them
Can't see this ever being possible to be honest...they'll both use their own format to store the messages...only way would be to store them online somewhere, but that would mean having to connect to wifi or 4g to view your texts which wouldnt be very handy.
Yes, that's what I think too, but I can only hope, can't I ;-)
@jonny68: next to just for chatting I use sms to exchange and/or discuss data with other people just because that works best for me. (they don't always have email on the go). That's why they have to be all together and in the right order. I do keep them for a while too...
Reset-a-thon 2K10!
I think the awnser lies in either the MyPhone server and or Exchange for Windows Server 2008 R2.. I am going to investigate this further and will report back my findings.. Hang in there!
btw.. I for one just took advantage of the HTC recall/replace of the 16GB MicroSD card, Next day air, that's what I call service. They replaced the SanDisk Class 2 with a Samsung Class 2 16GB, and I must say Android boots twice as fast!

sms redundancy

Hello all: I have an HD2 and gotta tell ya all that I simply can't fathom the amount of time and dedication that the developer of sd and nands have devoted to the cause of an improved hd2 enviroment. Thanks to all.
That being said, there are some things that if I weren't as old as I am and had some time and experience in this area, I would have changed. Those are: Sms redundancy. Yes, it's in the front screens (taskbar). that's one. It's in the inbox (ridiculous). It's in the bubbles (or without), but still in that component, and finally it's in regular sms. Please make it all one, please. You don't seem to be able to eliminate any of them.
Forget the request to download an mms. Come on, we've already paid for the service. Virtually every phone in the world has mms capabilities. It's become the world standard. so why even ask to download it and go through the trouble. Are we trying here to save some data charges or what?
Dual contacts apps within the roms is annoying, and unnecessary. Both have to be accessed separately in order to retrieve certain types of info, or add info, such as the way you want the contact filed. There's no provision for additional fields which is a real must for those in business who use the phone as a portable data device and office. If a developer actually gets the urge to do this, then have a translation of the field into an Outlook info data withing the contact instead making it disappear entirely. I can't tell you how many contacts I've lost because of that I know it's not your doing; it's MS. Also make the references to social services with the 'info' section of the contact, hidden. that's dumb. Also make the 'info' clear and immediately available on the opening screen of the contact. (I've come from two year user of the iphone within a T-mobile environment. Apple uses its cerebellum when devising contacts, calendar, alarms, reminders, notes, etc. I simply got away from it because I wanted to enter a true 3g environment and an improved camera).
I don't have the time to continue, but there are so many areas that could be improved on to give us all a really great phone experience. I know you'll say 'Android', but that is lacking in so many areas as well that I can't believe it's gotten the kind of accolades that it has. I could go on about that for an hour.
Anyway, again thnx to all who selflessly (I call it that cuz really the remuniration is minimal) have devoted the time to these roms.

[Q] Any HAck to increase text message storage from 1300?

On windows smartphone 2001 onwards to windows mobile 5/6
(if anybody still remembers the past pocket pc derived smartphone os)
i had virtually unlimited text storage with vastly smaller amounts of internal memory.
Its the same with good old symbian if you have an external memory card..
The wave has 555mb dedicated for storing sms, ems, email etc for messaging.
Why did they limit it to 1300 text messages only when text is such a small format much smaller than mms and email, and 555mb is a lot for storing messages.
I remeber when i had 10,000 text messages on my windows smartphone, an imate sp5m, it took the phone 30 minutes to delete all my messages when i executed the command.
This is what i miss from windows 6 even if the gui was shot (needed a stylus)
windows 6 was really good for messaging and with HTC sense i didnt go into the phones inner operations so often and didnt have to use the stylus frequently.
But upon looking into the sms file it was only 8mb in size.
(lets not compare this to the early years of IOS or Android. This is the reason why i only gave up my touch diamond with windows 6.1 late last year. the unlimited text and contacts storage was really great for business and sales use.
i seriously thought of going android but i got a good deal on this wave 8500.
i didnt know there were limits on installing programs, or limited text storage and limited contacts because there was no mention of this in the early reviews. `
im not regretting the purchase though because i thought there were ways to hack it to support more text, contacts, programs but no luck.
still love the cam, screen, hummingbird and body.
its like a beautiful but not overly educated chick, body is more than able (hardware) but lacks a bit in the knowledge area (bada) and its limited in the phone aspects thats very important like as i said again contacts, text message storage and amount of programs that bada 1.2 can install.
There are plenty of FREE practical utilities and programs that cant all fit in the 10 page menu of bada 1.2
Is there anyway to adjust this limit of 1300 text messages to at least 5000 text messages?
My outlook contacts have increased over the years from my sp100 windows smartphone (10 years ago) to over 2000 contacts.
I have long conversations or threads with people who ask me about the products i sell so no wonder i can fill up the 1300 limit in just three weeks.
I do have FREE unlimited text messaging and calls with my network service provider but only for other subscribers of the same network.
Try This...And tell me if it works!
Link points increasing text recipients
Thanks but the link you posted is about increasing text recipients.
I did find out that by going to messages then changing to folder view that messages can be backed up on the memory card.
Its not the real answer but its a good work around while im waiting for bada 2 to be finalized.

The best & free solution is already on your phone. On your SGSII Go to Settings>Accounts & Sync. Create a Samsung account there if you haven't already. Then go to samsungdive.com to track your device, lock it, make it ring if lost.
what if it is stolen and the ROM has been changed?
Cerberus protects even starting without a Sim or a different one, and capture photos if wrong screen lock, call logs and SMS, remote wipe, tracking with GPS, phone wake and scream, popup message, apply extra lock, call phone even if you don't know the number, record calls, hide app, etc. can be SMS or Web activation, Cheap lifetime license and can be installed on 5 devices. Vendor built Sim checker before then two years ago and I can confirm that service is still running. can be moved to /system/app and survives factory reset, Basically only new flash ROM will kill it.

Lol just saw can take photo on demand and email it, or if phone finder dismisses a popup request to return the phone.
Used push notification unlike Samsung solution which I found was battery killer

Guys,
I have lost my Galaxy S1 earlier this year; had Samsung dive setup while the phone was lost, but did not help me.The phone was switched off by the time I realized the loss.
I guess, folk who get their hand on some ones phone, kinda know what to do with the Samsung beasts/beauties. Handovers to someone to wipe and flash, would be their best bet, I reckon. I am sory, not taking about all honest folks who would have return the devices to the actual owners.
Since then, have been searching for solutions which are wipe proof / flash proof but not successful. I have even checked android feature request sometime back ,found none.
Since then I have been thinking of this crazy idea that Google needs to implement as part of android OS.
Since we are registering phone / market app on the phone with Google with a gmail id, why can't Google associate the IMIE of the phone with that gmail id ?
If the registered user decides to sell / transfer the phone to someone else the registered user, the register user of the phone initiates the request for transfer with another gmail id / approves the request from another gmail id, without which all/most to the Google support Android features like maps, browser, market ,emails would not work.
i am not finished yet.., android should have a feature to re-confirm the ownership regularly every after a fixed duration of time, which can be user defined. As long as he/she is on data connection, the renewal is a silent process with the cached credentials on the device. If not, provide some window of time time reconfirm the ownership, failing which the lock the features down to just phone calls / limited set user defined and basic android operations. This could be a optional feature, rather than losing the phone and would opt for this feature and i wont mind reconfirming my phone ownership at regular intervals
If someone lost an android phone , he/she has to just change the registered gmail account password which would make if difficult to renew the ownership. If the phone has a data connection, using the registered Google account on the lost device, one should be able to push a message to displayhttp://media.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon9.gifed on the lock screen and home screen. Similar to ChromeTohone / SendToPhone feature.
Mandatory reconfirmation on every flash which are not Non -Wipe. On devices with NFC/ similar chips with writable memory, the ownership details can be written to it and will not be wiped off by wipe or flashing.
Also I would make a humble request to all devs and ROM chefs to keep their busy hands off this feature, if implemented. Ethical stuff
We all love/hate our android phones but won't want to loose them, please let me know you feedback.
PS : I have moved on since my SGS1 only after mouning the loss, but now owns a SGS2
androidlost is the best
