wifi & Touch Dual? Microsoft says "ja" - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus General

http://www.microsoft.com/germany/wi...e/smartphone/default.mspx?f_brand=HTC&curPg=2
Strange, huh? It's a german site, and it claims wifi "ja" or "yes" for the all of you....
weird...
we
PS: In fact, they only got the first box correct, the second box only touchscreen and camera correct, the last box is no good either... Well done, microsoft

they also say NEIN to bluetooth or qwerty keyboard so i assume that ja as a error...

HTC Touch Dual
Actually the description is correct, a qwertz keyboard means that every letter has its own key. there is no key for every single letter!
but more important is definetly the wi-fi or wlan "Ja", imo the touch dual has a wlan chip onboard, i think its only a reg thing to activate the option in the connection manager! but don't take me too serious, cause i don't have one.
even though i'd buy one if it had wlan for sure!
if anybody could check it and posted a reply, many thanks would be for sure!
and a little money spent on ebay!
greets blue

Orange UK (the network) has the handset listed as 'non-Wi-Fi enabled' on our internal system. There are also no support pages for Wi-Fi listed from Microsoft/HTC

Well,
some guy named chainfire worked on this, but didn't have any luck, unfortunately. I would like to have wifi; it is just the ONE feature, which would make the device perfect for me... GPS is nice, but i got some in-car-navigation; i don't need it on my ppc as well...
<sigh>
I would even pay for the upgrade, if HTC would offer one....

Sure Hopes chainfire can figure it out..
I'm pretty positive it should be possible since the first models had Wifi, but the providers rather didn't have wifi since they want their 3G networks to be used..
So Technically I think it should be possible.. but will someone be able to figure out how to..
To be honest I'd rather have the GPS to function since I use GPRS with unlimited download to sync and surf

What do you pay for this?
Thanks

Worth it?

Ok folks,
Is it realy worth it so far?
Does it live up to the weeks and weeks of hype and speculation?
Is this the daddie?
I have the I wants so bad, but still not too sure.
The last 'smart phone' I had was the SE P900. That was great but not good enough. I have looked at the XDA's for a while now, and I don't know whether to wait for this or get the cheeper XDA IIi.
Brett
i'll be waiting for the next ROM upgrade to fix obvious bugs like WMP not playing into full screen, lost settings for exchange password/WEP keys, etc. if these annoying bugs are fixed, well maybe for me I could say that this is IT (for now )
Absolutely.
Bugs aside, it's the best mobile computing device I've ever owned.
I love the thing! I always used TCPMP (formerly BetaPlayer) for my videos, and that's working perfectly on my new JasJar, fullscreen and all.
My only problem is a couple of bugs with software (PocketMusic, PocketBreeze and a couple of others) which haven't been upgraded to WM2005 compatibility yet, but that's not the fault of the machine, and will certainly be fixed before very long.
I haven't had any problems with losing WEP keys, POP settings on soft reset, or any other issues which I would blame on the ROM. Even Skype is working fine on my device. I'm obviously just lucky!?
(Of course I may not be so lucky if the missus finds my credit card statement this month...)
Yes, it is
I had terrible problems with Skype until I found out that these were related to a software conflict, either with Voice Command or SPB 3 (New wm5). I have yet to reinstall one to find out exactly who is the guilty party, Isuspect VC 1.5.
BT issues largely fixed with radio upgrade and reading in forums, so TT5 works, this was crucial. So no big Bugs here.
I had an Imate jam/MDA compact, before and was hesistant to upgrade because the size difference is important. So I was lost between the Wizard and the Unniversal. Finally it came to this: Paying 450GBP for a Wizard vs 650GBP for Universal. With Universal I got 3G, video calling, better screen, and excellent keyboard. With the Wizard I got the same screen (BORING), good keyboard (I hear) and EDGE, but EDGE is not support by o2 UK, which sucks for me. That meant that all I got was a new keyboard for 450GBP, so I went with the 3 kilo upgrade option. If you have edge and are happy with your screen, go for the wizard, size matters.
M
So do you have it working using O2 in the UK? When it is out I'm looking at either the Wizard, Universal or strangely the Tornado.
Yes
Bought it buymobilesphones.net for 233GBP + contract 250mins o2 35 gbp, one year, downgrade after six months...planned as I have 500minutes on o2 for 15GBP already.
I have sinced changed contract to 30gbp per month with 16gbp voice 25 minutes, 36mb data, 14.5gbp, and have a 3g sim. Skype works fine on 3g.
And yes, seeing that little 'U' and surfing at broadband speeds is coool. More importantly, it is defintely a laptop weekend replacement, between keyboard and screen, no problem working on it seriously.
More than worth it...
To me its more than worth it, and this is coming from someone that doesn't have access to umts, only the lowly gprs, thank God for Wifi though
Mikey have you been able to find out whom the guilty party is with the skype issue? I can't even use the IM function on skype, let alone voice. I suspect it to be vc 1.5 because that is the only app I have installed and I am having issues with skype. I need to get skype working, and working properly, I really enjoy using it. If only they could do something to fix that echo problem.
Personally, i would say that if you can afford the JJ and aren't purchasing it, then you are missing out on something Thats the best way i can put it.
UD.
P.S. YaYa, the Wizard is nice n all, but a JJ its NOT!!!

Can't help you out on where to acquire the keypad. However, like most, I saw pictures of the Tilt and thought the keyboard was quite ugly. But now that it's in front of me, I like it a lot. It makes it much easier to make a quick dash to those number keys.

I have to agree. When I saw pictures, I thought it was horrible. But then I thought about it... it will be much easier to see the number keys if they stand out so much.
For AT&T Tilt /Kaiser/TyTN II Owners like me....
Well, it was hard for me to get the AT&T Tilt! They advertised (on internet/newspaper articles) that they'd have the phone by Oct. 5th, but I called a gazillion AT&T stores in the Wash. DC area and NONE of them had the phone. The following day, I tried a store in Springfield, VA (1 out of about 15 stores that I called!) and they had the phone! I purchased the phone and I must say that I am happy with it. However, the battery life is not too long (using MSN Messenger, 3G, and Wi-Fi) as the phone must be recharged every 6-8 hours (without talking on the phone!) after using it. It also gets slightly hot/warm!
Now, here are my questions:
- Where in the world is the theme being used on here: http://www.htc.com/support/support_htctytnII.htm My phone only has 4 themes and none of them is the one shown on the page above.
- Where is the "Internet Sharing" program for 3G broadband connectivity (to the laptop)? I think AT&T only included a way of using the phone as a dial-up modem, but NOT as a broadband/3G modem! In the official HTC TyTN II site, they mention a way to connect (via broadband?) to the 3G network by using a program called "3gnetopt.exe" on our laptops and by using a "Internet Sharing" program found on the phone! I could not fine any of these on the CDs that came with my phone! I downloaded the 3gnetopt.exe from this site (xda-developers is the best!), but I do not have the "Internet Sharing" program on my phone. What can I do? Any ideas?
Thank you!!!!

That theme is for the TyTn II, not the Tilt. If you want that home screen, read this thread.

You won't need to install anything extra onto your desktop to run Internet Sharing. The program is on the Tilt, but ATT just removed the shortcut to it. Check out the \Windows dir on the phone. You'll find the .exe there for it. Just connect your phone to your desktop via USB or BT and start up Internet Sharing. The drivers should automatically install on the computer and you'll be good to go.

www.cnn.cn has they TyTN II Keypad. (click on HTC and then TyTN II) They sell it for 9.99. I have purchased blackberry housings from them before without a hitch.
Edit: Here is a link to the keypad http://cnn.cn/shop/tytn-iitilt-inner-keyboard-p-2058.html
csurfr, this is a great link!
Thank you.
It's especially useful for foreign-language users, who want to engrave their language on the keypad, and the engraving doesn't succeed for some reason.

HTC Shift got no GPS nor voice calls

Yesterday (30 rd) Paul Ghent from HTC Europe run a conference in Madrid at the Movistar's MovilForum and by the end of the presentation I asked him directly if the HTC Shift could be used to answer a phone call.
Answer... NO WAY.
Due to the size of the Shift they consider not useful the voice over GSM. Anyway the model that will be available in Spain (mid-Feb) will have GSM/GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA for data. So you need to insert a SIM card on it. But NO VOICE.
They mention that the Shift will be delivered in a special price by Movistar... I assume SIM-locked.
Has no GPS and comes with Vista. The information about Shift running WM5 (or WM6) is not true. Maybe the problem is the stand-by mode the Shift has called SnapVUE which is very similar to the Today screens used by HTC in the Touch series PDAs... but is not WM5 as far as HTC said in the Madrid's meeting.
More info... in spanish I must say at www.todoumpc.com
A video with Paul Ghent speech in english will be uploaded in a few days at www.todoumpc.com including my question about the voice capabilities.
i think they are making two versions the first one will come out in march with no voice then later they will have one with voice.
i dont know for sure but what i been told for a while now and posted is that htc were deciding on gps and voice. lately from what i seen they decided to disable both. dont worry though if needed we can mod it to get both back on there. also then we will unhide the full wm6. wow htc is starting to annoy me lately with all the crippling and hidding of features. oh well atleast it gives me something to do

im right there with you, it is annoying me too i agree about the voice, that should be somthing that can be fixed
My guess is that since there is Qualcomm chipset inside the Shift and that chipset comes with GPSOne like our Athena the possibility is there. The only question is if they installed an GPS antenna or not. If the chip is there but no antenna even activating the facility the GPS will be unusable.

No more BR roms - I sold my iPAQ

Hey people,
Yesterday I got fed up with my iPAQ 910c, put it on craigslist and sold it for not much less than what I originally paid for it.
Mainly, the lack of Cell-ID support from HP was really annoying: all kinds of times when I wanted a quick sense of where I was from Google Maps, I'd have to wait a long time for a GPS fix and make sure I held the phone out with a clear view of the sky. Not exactly convenient. And even though Rogers is selling the iPAQ 910c on contract, HP hasn't provided an rilgsm.dll with Name Display (CNAP) support. Stupid.
That, and WM6.5 brings with it (in my opinion) features that really prefer a higher-res screen. And a directional control more advanced than a scroll wheel. And a light sensor to automatically adjust brightness (as opposed to me having the 61x/91x brightness control on hotkey, lol). And more speed.
...so I'm getting an Xperia X1.
It was fun cooking with y'all, and so I leave you in the capable hands of monte & keyx. Adios amigos!
Wow!
Sorry to lose your development skills on the 910 - I always enjoyed your ROMs.
Happy trails!
many thanks to you..
i'm still running your WM6.5 on my ipaq.
but, i'm also wondering to replacing my ipaq with xperia. how does xperia compared to ipaq 912, i just want to know from your point of view.
thx
So far it is awesome - the 800x480 screen is amazing with WM6.5, and the device seems to get both better speed and battery life than the iPAQ. That, plus the Xperia has just enough less width than the iPAQ for me to wrap my hand around when I'm carrying it, running, etc. Not only does Cell-ID provide instant estimates of my location in Google Maps (which itself looks amazing at WVGA), but GPS fix seems to take a fraction of the time it did on the iPAQ.
I can't do one-handed QWERTY typing as quickly or easily as with the iPAQ, but with two hands I don't notice much difference. The screen doesn't pick up nearly as many fingerprint smudges as my iPAQ did. And the optical trackball functions more like the little "pearl" on Blackberries, something HP should have put in the middle of that giant D-PAD.
But basically the screen is the biggest improvement: I went from seeing like 3 titanium homescreen entries on the ipaq (with WM6.5) to now seeing all of them at once. That's huge. I nearly broke even on the upgrade too - bought the iPAQ on eBay this January for like $240, sold for $200 on craigslist, and just got the Xperia from Rogers on a 3-year contract for $225.
Thankfully, there is a large ROM cooking community already in place for the Xperia, so that takes some of the pressure off. My understanding is that cooking for the HP devices is relatively easy once the tools exist; the SD-Loader isn't checking for signed ROM images so no low-level device unlocking is required. HTC phones are a different story - even the ones sold "SIM unlocked" still come with a bootloader that won't accept custom ROMs, and certain XDA gurus have to make a "HardSPL" modified bootloader before custom ROMs can be flashed. Case in point: the poor suckers with the Palm Treo Pro are still without any custom ROMs whatsoever, because the phone isn't quite popular enough to have reached somebody who can make a HardSPL (they're working on that).
Once a HardSPL exists, though, HTC ROM development tends to explode because they keep using the same underlying hardware. Thus the Xperia light sensor is the same as the one on the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro; the radio hardware is interchangeable with those phones too. Moral of the story: check out the state of ROM development before you buy.
soory 2 hear u are out of ipaq roms u had good ones
anyway good luck with your new device and try 2 keep a look 4 plastic cracks
i 4 myself like the front KB like the 6900 900 i780...
i had the ipaq 800 (data messenger) with light sensor dpad sensor very fast gps...(device generl speed slower then the 900 and have no SR )
had some htc devices with sliding hard KB but on such devices i found myself using software KB (if u sms or need somthing short u will see it 2)
the screen must be a great thing
enjoy and tnx 4 all
Good look with the new toy.
Noooooooo....how dare you betray us front facing keyboard lovers!!!
It was good having your roms and knowledge...best of luck with the Xperia!!
I'm currently waiting for a replacement 910c from Rogers right now...my USB connector stopped working Maybe I'll just replace my phone altogether...but...I must have WM, front facing keyboard, gps, wifi, and 7.2mbps dl speed
We'll see what comes out...Samsung looks like it might have a good rival
Again, many thanks and good luck!
Well, congrats on the "upgrade" - I thought someone on Rogers would for sure go for a quad-band phone, but maybe the tri-band will work well enough for you where you are.
By the way - the "cell ID" thing is being worked on, and I thought I had a quick solution involving "cell broadcast" settings in the registry. It's probably only weeks away from being fixed. Keep checking back to see if we get it right.

lol I'm in downtown Toronto, but the Xperia is actually quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and tri-band UMTS (850/1900/2100). Which is exactly the same as the iPAQ.
I wish you the best of luck getting the Cell-ID thing working. I'm mostly just pissed that after all this time Inventec hasn't made a few simple changes to their radio firmware, and HP has the nerve to blame the network carrier in their documentation!
Anyway EREZYAD is right, these past few days my text entry has been split about 50-50 between the software keyboard in portrait mode and the hardware keyboard in landscape. Neither are quite as good as the iPAQ 910c, but the combination is sufficient.
so long benjaminries, never used your rom's but always sad to lose a chef

This is corroborated by other apps like Navizon that also don't work on the HP 91x/61x.
Basically, the RIL interface specified by Microsoft has several API functions that apps are supposed to be able to call which should return an ID code that identifies the cell tower to which the phone is currently connected. As far as I can tell, the OEM (HP) is supposed to adapt firmware and corresponding WinMo driver files like rilgsm.dll from the radio manufacturer (Qualcomm) to meet Microsoft's specification; however some OEMs like HP "choose" not to implement these APIs such that requests by apps for the Cell ID return a constant error code.
There appear to be two alternative methods of retrieving the cell ID that might have given us hope for HP: (1) broadcast channels and (2) serial requests. But the first option is unhelpful in North America where GSM carriers don't use broadcast channels, and the second option (when I tested it) didn't seem to work either - basically there are a number of direct modem commands that can be sent over COM ports to ask for the cell ID. The results of my testing suggested that the problem lies, at least in part, within the radio firmware itself - perhaps provided to HP by their main manufacturer, Inventec.
To me, the fact that HP/Inventec didn't fix these problems - despite mass outcry by users - suggests that while HP is still patching up what they can on the software side (releasing ROM updates for keyboard and sound issues), whoever created the radio firmware (Inventec?) has sort of walked away, or at least has no stake in keeping existing customers happy.
What the xda-developers community knows about and is able to do with actual HTC hardware, by comparison, is huge...
You did the best bro. It is nearly 2010 and I believe that any other phone after that time should have a BIG scren.

HSDPA/WCDMA Not working! HELP!

I have recently bought the HTC Touch 3g (codename Jade) as I used to have the HTC touch and I wanted inbuilt GPS and the 3G speed internet. I bought a second hand phone off ebay and while all the features work fine, I have noticed that it doesnt pick up a 3g connection! It connects to the net but only using GPRS and/or EDGE which is the same as my old phone, the same old slow speed!! I took it to my local ORANGE UK shop where some dumb blonde pressed a few buttons on it and told me it was the phones fault.
Please help! I don't really want to take her word for it.
Any help would be really really appreciated!!

Yeah I have checked but I dont think it is. I have already flashed it with WM6.5. I checked the CPU and it is all correct.
Is it possible that if this is a hardware error then JUST THE 3G part doesnt work?

In WM 6.1 there are options to deactivate 3G (Settings/Phone/Band and Settings/Advanced Settings/HSDPA - all translated from German). Probably in WM 6.5 there is something similar and perhaps not activated.
I do not think that only 3G-hardware does not work without any other problems.
Do you think if I took it to a hardware shop they would be able to confirm? I flashed it back to original rom last night and its still no use. Checked the registry settings too. I saw the H logo for about 2 seconds last night. I am in a 3g area. Its super annoying! I spent £160 on this phone on ebay and the bloody woman refuses to return the item!!!!
