Cingular 8525 Sync Problem - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have an 8525 running WM6 AT&T version. It is not recognized by my PC.
It has been running fine until the Battery died 2 weeks ago. After that I can not sync. My PC does not recognize the device. The USB Cable and connection works since my portable USB hard drive works on the same connection. I have re-formatted my PC and installed Activesync 4.5. Active Sync 4.5 is the version I have been using for over 3 months. The phone has been Hard Reset. The phone works with the exception of the Sync.
Any ideas?

flash it with another rom, that isnt an official update for your device, i.e. the o2 rom update, then see if it syncs? if that works flash it back with the at&t rom. I had this problem with my hermes(mda vario II) when i flashed the at&t wm6 rom but as soon as i flashed with the o2 rom it synced fine, even with vista

Thanks for the reply. But my PC does not sync at all and I do not have access to another one at the moment so I can't flash another ROM.
It was working up to a week ago.

if u haven't already, then make sure 'enable advanced network functionality' is unchecked on device.

Happened to me too for a minute....
I d\l ActiveSync 4.5 again and reinstalled... all was good.
Try that before smashing computer...
Guess something went wrong... 4.5 worked fine then I decided to flash the radio again. Frustrated me to no end. But reinstalling AS4.5 worked for me.

Update:
I tried reinstalling ActiveSync. Did not fix the problem.
Funny thing is that the USB plug will charge the unit but I can't Sync. It won't recognize the device. Another funny thing is that the USB on the phone does not turn on. Does look like a hardware issue then?

Troubleshooting 101... I'd try a different cable first. Then a different USB port (back, front) of the PC. Then I'd try a different computer. I'd be relatively surprised if it turns out to be the phone - but... Possible, I suppose.

right click on my computer and click manage, then click on the device manager on the top left window and a list of devices will appear on the right.
If your ppc is connected unplug it, wait a few seconds then plug it back in and you will see the screen of your devices change. If you get a unknown device or device with and exclamation mark in a yellow triangle then right click on it and click remove wait for the confirmation that it has been removed then unplug the device and wait a few seconds then plug it back it again.
If all that is useless in that it doesnt even show as an unknown device then check the universal serial bus controllers section by clicking on the + to the right of it to expand the tree and check in there if there are any unknown devices and remove them.
If after all that it still fails right click on the ruu exe file and click extract to ruu_filename and extract the contents of the file to the said folder then open the folder and inside is another exe file call ruu_inside.exe right click on that and extract that the same way by right clicking on it and click extract to ruu_filename then open that folder and rename the RUU_signed.nbh to hermimg.nbh get a blank sd card format it in the device so nothing is on it then copy the hermimg.nbh to the card. Then enter bootloader by pressing top left side button top right side button and camera button at the same time as you reset with the stylus and it will update from the sd card

I tried this, reinstalled activesync, then it FINALLY WORKED. Thanks!
My activesync has been broken for a couple of days. I am pretty OCD so I have been on a warpath to fix it.
On a positive note, I couldn't get the new ATT rom to load, so I did everything else - I now have SIM and CID unlocked phone with vp3G's rom and I am liking it very well!

i had the same problem..i just un-installed activesync 4.5 and re-installed it. Then installed the new AT&T rom (WM6). i had the schaps verison on their before but it was giving me hell and after i replaced it with the AT&T version all is well...

OMG!!! I was freaking over this. New ATT WM6 ROM installed, was a bear but got it synched to AS 4.5 at work..but could not explore. Came home, and nothing I tried would even let me sync on my home pc! Note, this PC has been syncing WM Devices for over 5 years now, I am no newb to them!
I was even getting the "USB does not recognize this device" error! WTF!!!!!!!
After uninstalling and re-installing AS many times, cleaning the registry, doing a Hard Rest to the device...all to no avail....until I searched in here:
Quote:
if u haven't already, then make sure 'enable advanced network functionality' is unchecked on device.
That fixed it!!!! Why? I have no f'ing idea. And curse ATT/MS for having it enabled!
First try and I was able to connect , synch, explore....viola!!!
You should also mentioned where to find it:
You can find that Fubar setting by going to Settings/Connections/USB to PC

Not digitally signed with a Trusted certificate/ Activesync keeps UNINSTALLING!

First of all, I had some minor problems getting Activesync to recognize my 8525. (XP, Net 2.0). After a couple of driver updates or whatever, it finally worked!
I tried flashing to a different ROM but had problems during the HardSPL procedure. I stopped it, but THEN had some problems trying to connect my 8525 to the PC!! (Activesync again, ugh!) I uninstalled & re-installed Activesync like 3 times, and FINALLY got it to work again!
Now I have problems installing .CAB files to my 8525. I keep on getting the warning:
"The program is from an unknown publisher. You should install it only...."
I press "YES" and it comes as "unsuccessful".
I press "NO" and I get the "... program cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate".
Besides having installation problems, I also noticed that Activesync keeps on disappearing/uninstalling from my PC. I have to install Activesync 4.5 every time I turn on the PC.
Can some one tell me what's going on? What should I do? Should I do a "HARD RESET"? (I have done a SOFT RESET but to no avail). I would appreciate some help. Thanks!
I found out that I shouldn't do a HARD RESET because it will erase the "unlocked" feature in my phone. (I bought the phone unlocked).
I have researched the wiki, and some threads, and ACTUALLY someone else had this problem, way back in 2006. (The .CAB problem). But no one responded.
I also had to uninstall a program I had previously installed in my 8525 due to the fact that it stopped responding. It just wouldn't work anymore. I got the same "unsigned certificate" message.
I guess I'm going to RE-INSTALL Activesync ALLL over again. Maybe it will help it or something...
(This is literally going to be like the 5th time I install Activesync. And I just got the 8525).
IF ANYBODY CAN HELP ME WITH THE .CAB PROBLEM I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.
(I'm running WM6 Pro, AT&T)
freakin piece of crap!
its STILL NOT WORKING!!!!!
It USED TO WORK! I used to be able to install .CAB files. I have only installed 2 .cab files into internal memory (NO external. dont have one yet). I installed Opera Mini, and Wifi Radar. I also installed a couple of themes. I also installed animated themes but deleted them since they wouldn't work. (I think they required some other stuff). I also deleted all the themes except for one.
THEN one day, i tried doing that HardSPL-V7, and I got to the last step but quit since I got an error telling me that if I continue the (usb?)device could stop working.
Another time I tried installing SPB Finance 2.8 .CAB and that's when I noticed it would no longer install .CAB files. (It also won't install directly using .exe)
I researched Google and the forums, and found out a guy that had the same problem (no one responded).
Today I noticed that Pocket Wifi Radar wouldn't run. It said something about the certificates. I uninstalled it, tried to install it again, but it wasn't successful.
So far this has been the history of my 8525. Could it be because the "certificates" were installed in the ORIGINAL computer profile? Since I have installed Activesync many times, I noticed every time it creates a new profile. For example, the first time it was called "Windows PC". Then it was called "Windows PC2". Just right now I installed it again, and it was going to be named "Windows PC3", but I changed the name to something else, and of course it still didn't work.
Could ANYBODY give me some tips as to what I should do? Thank you.
go to settings>connections>usb to pc. uncheck "enable advanced network functionality".
if it syncs a few times with no problems run unlocker tool found in upgrades section. then hard spl then if you feel game enough upgrade os with one of your choice.
Hope this helps... cheers
holy cow, relax guy. you are not the only person to ever get the not digitally signed message.

as for the hardspl problem, i responded to that thread you created, didnt you see?
Ok, I tried what you mentioned ultra, and I got this message upon connecting the 8525 to the PC. (BTW, this is the SAME message that appeared when I was attempting to install HardSPL-V7),
HTC USB Sync
has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatability with
Windows XP.
Continuing your installation of this software may impair or disabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing.
I pressed "Continue" and it installed HTC USB Sync. But then I got the a message telling me "Activesync 4.5 or greater needs to be installed" (even though it IS installed). I ran through the setup again, and it would only let me "repair" or "uninstall". I pressed "repair". Afterwards it asked me to "restart". I did. Then upon loading back up, I connected the 8525 to the PC again, and I got the SAME message again (the one about it not passing Windows Logo). This time I pressed "STOP" and then I got the message about HTC USB Sync not being installed in the computer.
I have been fed up with the problems the 8525 has been giving me. My Clie UX was so much easier to manage. Quick question, I am REALLY leaning on doing a HARD RESET, but I think/kinda know, that if I do, it will ERASE WM6 correct? And go back to WM5?
Oh and yes xtreme, I have searched this on the search bar. And yes, I know you replied back, but you were referring to the Hard SPL. I am having problems w/ installing .CAB files.

dont hit stop dude, u're suppose to hit continue. hitting stop prevents the drivers from being installed and then the RUU wont run
Well I did press "Continue" the first time and I did not see any improvements. I just saw that it installed "HTC USB Sync".
I AM able to successfully install Activesync, I just can't get .CAB files to install.
Could it be because I pressed "STOP" whenever I tried using HardSPL? Should I try and run HardSPL AGAIN and this time pressing "Continue"?
Oh, and are you sure I'm supposed to press "Continue"? After all, I do get that error about Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation. It sounds fishy pressing "Continue".
I just installed Activesync ALLLL over again, but this time in the D:/ drive... still the same .CAB problem.
Oh, and I no longer have the problem where Activesync would uninstall by itself. I noticed it fixed itself yesterday.
BUT I'm still having problems installing .CAB files.
1). hard reset will reset it back to factory its true BUT, and like j-lo's this is a big but, it will re install the last os on the phone (wm6) NOT the stock rom...
2). are you installing the .cab files from the computer or copying them to the memory card and installing from there?
If you install the .cab from the memory card it seems to work fairly well (at least from my experience). if its in a .exe format then it runs from the computer and requires activesync. if you have the .cab file then my suggestion is try to run it from the memory card.. Cheers..
Try installing the SDK certificates and see if that helps
Finally Works!!!!! Hard Reset!
OK, so I've been up for about 3hrs straight trying to figure this out. Reinstalled/uninstalled activesync... tried installing HardSPL again (twice)... didn't work. So I was like, you know what...f* it. I'm going to do a Hard Reset. I'm just gonna try it.
IT WORKED!!!! AND IT STILL STAYED IN WM6!!!! And I think it's still unlocked (although I've read from threads that a HR will disable the unlocked feature).
I AM GLAAAAD THAT I CAN INSTALL FILES NOW!!!! YAY!! (hehe). THANKS TO THOSE WHO TRIED TO HELP!!! SERIOUSLY. It feels really bad when no one tries to help you, even though you don't have a CLUE as to what to do.
** I solemnly swear I will no longer try to use HardSPL or try flashing to a different ROM*. I will use the ROM that came with the phone, and be glad everything is WORKING **
*= at least for until a couple of more months
AND for those who are having this problem (and it's a lot of ppl, based from search results), try a HARD RESET. It helped me anyways.
"and like j-lo's this is a big but"
Glad it worked but I wouldnt allow one bad experiance to turn you off flashing... If I were you I'd still flash hard spl ( in case you find something that you really like). It DOES make it easier to fix "bricks". But just to satisfy your curiosity, go to bootloader and see if it says that you have 2.10 or 2.30 SPL. Also if you want to try flashing, try the sd card method. Its a heap safer (from my experience) than flashing by activesync. Check the wiki for how to do it.
PS. you dot need to reformat the sd card. if you have all the stuff you want on it then just copy the .nbh to the root of the sd card and rename to "hermimg.nbh", it will load as soon as the hermes is put into bootloader and you wont have to re-install anything. Works every time for me and I've done it about 30 or 40 times...Cheers......

i think his problem is that he can't install .cab files period. he's having the same problem as me. my first phone had that prob, i updated .net 2.0 and it was fine. got my second phone here, update .net to 3.5, but still can't transfer/execute ANY cab files to my phone. the pc just doesn't recognize the phone period. i can't copy/paste, can't push anything through onto my phone. it's crazy. so what else can we do? i'd like to think i'm pretty tech savvy, but this isn't cool LOL
Hello,
now I cannot execute a 'not signed' .exe from my diamond, because of the 'not signed' error message.
I tried to see the first steps of the android port on the diamond touch. I had to remove the battery to stop the application. Since, it's not possible for me to execute any non-signed application (total commander, putty, ...).
Did you find a clean solution? I prefer not to go through the steps of reinstalling a new firmware (windows isn't accessible on my computer & I have a rather old backup of my diamond's files).
I allready have a hardspl, because my orginal ROM is from SFR (french operator)... and I prefer the original HTC version which is more beautiful & more uptodate.

Trying the same thing for my Diamond after trying out Android on it.
Same problem here. Running android 1.0 got me into this trouble.
(Running android 0.8 multiple times did not cause this problem.)
Did anybody find a better solution than hard reset?

Done all, can´t syncronize!!! Help

Hello to everybody!
After all I have to say that this is a fantastic forum for users of Qtek S200 (Prophet). I bought one last week and started to see what I could do. Therefor... I'm a newbie
This is my first thread, hope that some one can help.
After trying to understand the world of Prophet, I first changed the ROM to an official Qtek ROM.
Now I what to sincronize with my PC to transfer photos and put some software and apps in the card. Like I read here, I downloaded the activesync from microsoft site, instaled it and plugged the cable to my pda. Nothing happened. Than I went to activesync connections enabled USB connection and tapped in connect. After a search, the pda was simply not found. Even after turning down de AntiVirus and Firewall, nothing happened.
What happened? I have to do something in the PDA? Couldn't find that info in here.
Thank's in advance for the help
Heurd
Does the LED in the speaker at the top change to orange?
Does the computer react at all? (any sounds etc.)
If not, try putting the device into bootloader: Press and hold the COMM button and then soft reset, and then plug it into your computer and see if anything at all happens.
If nothing happens, the USB cable is damaged. If the computer responds when the device is in bootloader but not when it is in, the ROM may not have the required software installed in it.
Hi,
Yes, the Led turns orange. I can charge the battery with that cable. But i also read that it's possible in some cases to charge but the part to syncronize can be damaged!!!
But what really intregues me is that I used that cable to put the ROM that I have. Supposedly it's a Qtek official ROM, i don't know if you can conclude something with this:
IPL 2.10.0001
SPL 2.20.0001
GSM 02.47.21
OS 2.20.7.29
In PDA appears the active sync icon and tapping it only appears a window that says to install AS in PC and connect. So I suppose that it has something.
thanks to l3v5y for the sugestion... I will try and than post here what happened.
does anyone has anymore suggestions... I will try everything to put this at work.

This seems to say you haven't successfully installed Active Sync. Try restarting your computer and seeing if it works then.

That is surelly not the problem because I installed AS 4.5, restarted the computer more than once, removed that and reinstalled and nothing... I even had put de AS 4.2 to try and see if it worked - nothing.
Now I'm not in my computer... I will try what you suggested when I go home.
I think it may be something to do with the USB cable...
Had that problem a while ago, my solution was to reinstall windows xp and it worked. so backup your pc, format your hard drive and then install the os (windows xp/vista). i guess it was usb-driver related.
REALLY
Unbelieveble...
well, It's easier to try in another pc before formatting mine. I'm not in the mood (too much time to put like I like)
That way I will check and see if my cable and ROM are allright.
Thanks for the tip croco_64
Hope to tomorrow come in here and wright that it's everything ok
Hi there!
Well... I've tried what you proposed. It is probably a problem of the cable. I tried with a cable of a digital camera and finally the computer detected the phone (with mine it only went orange light in the top, but never recognized - despite I changed the ROM with it ). However it gives an error - the instalation is not complete!!! I went to device manager in the PC and there was a yellow (!) in the windows mobile device.
Is it of the cable!? Do the cable have to have specific properties to sync the pda and the pc? The camera cable isn't enough?
yes... I had put activesync 4.5 in the PC!!!
thanks again for the help

help appreciated

hi, trying to synch my wizard to eith er desktop (xp) or laptop(vista). it worked with vista briefly then stopped and has never synched with xp. the phone is charging when plugged in. xp just says windows mobile based device has found errors when installing and wont install, and vista wont recognise it apart from charging. i read that i should change the usb to pc settings in the connections tab, but i have searched the entire phone and that setting is not anywhere. i have performed many soft and hard resets, but to no avail, and also tried 3 diffrent usb cables. also tried syncing with bluetooth, but same response.
can someone please shed some light on this, as its getting very inconvenient to keep having to use the mem card for everything, and i really wanna try a new rom on this blasted thing!
thanks
try uninstalling activesync on the pc. it seems that the drivers may have been corrupted. also use a program that does secure deletion like "ccleaner" if I remember the name correctly. that shoud delete all of the files and overwrite the deleted sectors on your hard drive completely; as well as make sure tha there are no registry keys left behind.
then, restart the pc and reinstall activesync. and reset the phone before connecting.
The above is worst case senario. before doing that, try this first:
delete partnership in activesync and reset the phone. restart the computer (shut down, not restart)
then when the comp boots completely and the phone boots completely; try reconnecting again.
I once had that problem with a rom I flashed. someone forgot to put the driver into it
fixed...for now?
ok first...wow, thanks for all that!!!! second.. i think i may have fixed it! i was wandering thro the forums seeing what i could find on the subject of activesync problems...50gazillion posts later...i found this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271174&highlight=rndis
it eemed peoples were having the same probs as me. in one post was a rndis to serial cab file, so i d/ld it and installed on my fone via the mem card, plugged fone in....synched straight away!!!! and has stayed synched so far..about half an hour. i shall post tomorrow whether it will resynch after a period of being disconnecte...fingers crossed!!!

SEUS problem (I have searched the forum)

Just as the topic says. I saw a couple of people claiming to have used the seus to update and decided to try. I had the stock RA2 and wanted RA3.
When I connect the deivce, seus cannot recognize it. It makes several attempts (with the sound for new device found/unplugged) and then says that it could not recognize it. During this time the screen of the X1 flickers from the coloured stripes to a balck screen and there are multiple ActiveSync icons aperaing on the taskbar (all grey).
I have XP Pro SP3 03/09. Most of the topics I found were from people with Vista.
Any ideas? Now, I'm stuck with the stock RA1 until I find a solution.
I noticed something else. Just after the coloured stripes appear, there is a screen that pops up briefly and says "no image file!". After I plug the usb in, the bar with the 0% appears for a short moment, then the scrren goes black and returns to the coloured stripes. The cycle repeats all the time.
What is that "there is no image file!"???

Net user administrator active:yes is wrong
Net user administrator /active:yes is correct
Thanks to Rob Hilton for pointing out this trap.

I thank Ben O'Sullivan for correcting this activate --> active error.
Well, I also thought that I was the administrator until I realised that I was not... I am not sure if this is the case for you but maybe check again?
EDIT: Nevermind, you got an XP, I think it's most likely that you got a lot of software that conflicts with activesync and it's probably impossible to find the culprit
I would just update it with some else's computer..
the "no image file" warning upon boot is because there is an SD card in the phone, but no image on the SD card that can be used to update the phone

Report your current ROM. It is possible that your phone is in USB to PC mode instead of ActiveSync mode. It is also possible that your ROM has not been officially released.

I formatted the card FAT32. That should solve any issues. In order there to be an image for the update the SEUS should connect to the SD and copy that image in the first place.

Report your current ROM. It is possible that your phone is in USB to PC mode instead of ActiveSync mode. It is also possible that your ROM has not been officially released.

The phone is in ActiveSync mode. As I said when the SEUS is trying to identify the phone there are multiple ActiveSync icons appearing on the taskbar. All of them are innactive (grey).
I use the official RA2. Updated through SEUS.
I know there is a stupid little issue that I am overlooking. It is something obvious every time. I can't find it this time though....
What I meant was that the ROM for you country/language has not been released. And I meant pc software that conflicts with active sync, if this is not the case then obviously R3A is not release.

That shouldn't conflict with SEUS recognizing my device though, right?
Here comes another day of experimenting to find the answer .
hello m8 i had once this problem when i a hardspl and then i wanted to update from seus.
what i did? i run the stockspl -> flashed a stock rom >then update froms seus.
it happened to me 2 times when i tried to flash custom roms or official roms via flash mode. the problem was solved both times
i dunno if that helps but u could try.

The thing is, I never flashed custom ROMs on this device. All the different ROMs I tried were flashed on another X1. The only thing I have done is hard reseting 10+ times and updating to RA2 via SEUS one time. That's it.
I guess it could work, but I will do it as a last resort. There is something wrong with my phone and I want to know what or at least how to fix it.
Like I said, your R3A has not been released. I will keep saying this until you tell me that you know 100% that the R3A for your Xperia has been released.
I too had the same issue. I also couldn't install the bootloader to load a custom ROM either. Skipping several hours of swearing, soft boots and repeatedly trying the same thing, I discovered the problem was with Kaspersky.
After disabling Kaspersky, I was able to load the Generic UK R3A off the SD card. Never got around to trying SEUS again, but have a go at disabling any internet security software you have.
I guess it's windows vista software issues (NOT POCKET PC SOFTWARE).
I have Windows XP on my laptop and whilst i could flash my x1 fine with the older SEUS client, since they upgraded to the new fancy looking client i face exactly the same problems. The x1 goes in USB mode and SEUS is starting/terminating several activesync processes in the background and then it fails.
Clear the Checkbox
I have Windows Vista Business running on my laptop.
I also have the problem of SEUS cannot indentify my X1 (but sometimes, it did recongize though very low succesful rate).
After clear the Checkbox : USB Connection allowed, in the Vista Mobile Devicecenter (before connecting the USB cable to X1), the SEUS can identify my X1 and I have tried it twice successfully.
Hop it can help.

Confirmed this trick. Just yesterday I was trying to update my X1 to R3A, but SEUS couldn't recognize my phone is connected. I've tried to activate built-in windows Administrator account, because it helped me when I was updating to R2A. But this time it didn't work. I was pretty confused, but after few minutes of searching on forum I found suggestion about uncheck that "USB Connection allowed" option. I did it, connected the phone and SEUS recognized it in a second. Tried 3 times and it worked like a charm.
I am running on Vista Home Premium 32bit.

[Q] i cannot sync my htc hd2

hello i just get my htc hd2 and i want to install apps and games and do all those stuff that are in this website.. (put android....etc....)
but i cant because i cannot open Windows mobile device center... i have windows 7 ultimate 64-bit OS.... i have tried thousands of methods to make it work and i still cant!!... the WMDC icon appears in the all programs list but i click it and nothing happens... also there is a folder named windows mobile and the C:\Windows... but nothing works!!... i connect my HTC HD2 and run it in Sync mode and in Storage Mode and nothing happens again !
IM SO DESESPERATE!!!
if someone could help me i would be so happy thanks...
if need more info just tell me!
Try a few things-
1-Check to see if you have the latest version of WMDC, which is version 6.1
2-Reinstall WMDC if you do indeed have the latest version
3-Goto device manager and delete your Windows phone from your PC
4-It may be your device, try a hard-reset if that up there fails
5-and finally, if ALL ELSE fails, it may be your USB connector on your phone is bad. We have seen this quite a few times, seems to be a fairly common problem.
One other possibility.... the ugly truth is that I have to uninstall my antivirus program everytime I flash my rom and create a new partnership with WMDC. UGH!! this was microsoft's only answer to the problem. Please try it before you do a hard reset.
for me it never syncs (after a new flash) until i
settings menu all settings connection usb to pc
untick"enable faster data"
if you have connected the phone before doing this, reboot both the phone and the pc and try again.
I was having what I think is the same problem. Try going to setting (the tab in Sense) and select other. There is an icon that says something like usb-computer open that and de-select speed up ActiveSync conectivity or something along thoes lines.
I was able to sync after that.
