Any feedback on cases with magnetic studs? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Accessories

Hey all,
My Tilt is on the way from AT&T, and I'm looking at cases. The cases that seem to interest me all use magnetic studs. Some have said the magnetic studs can keep the Tilt turned on.
The 2 I like the most are the following:
PDair Book Type
ebay "Premium" Kaiser Case
Anyone had any experience with these or other similar cases with magnetic studs in a similar spot causing problems?
Thanks!

Dont want to hijack your thread but since your on the topic of that case anyone try "PDair Book Type"? Is it still possible to press the keys with the plastic over it?... It doesn't look like it, i seems like you would be pressing more than one button at a time with that plastic over the keyboard.

I think you'll be able to press the keys, but it wont be as good as without the case. As you said, you'll prolly press several buttons at onces and wont get the same feel when typing.

I've used a Prestige case with magnetic closure for a year or more with my AT&T 8525. Never noticed a problem. I'm now using the case with my Tilt, but that's only been a few days. Haven't noticed anything yet, however.

I'm using the PDAir flip case -- the magnetic stud doesn't affect anything. The plastic keyboard cover isn't too bad -- I haven't noticed any problems with multiple keypresses, but it does affect the feel of the keyboard.
I'm looking forward to the Piel Frama case, which should be coming out in the next few weeks. They had a really good case for my old Wizard that used a narrow leather strap & snap to hold the device in the case; you'd unsnap the strap to access the keyboard.

Depends on the magnet strength and location, there have been a few reports of the magnet turning on the phone. The kaiser keyboard uses a magnetic sensor to turn on the phone when the keyboard opens. I'm using a hip holster with mag and not seeing any issue.
I'd say should anyone have the issue, start a thread with brand/model listed for others to avoid.

I have the Seidio case I originally bought for my 8525.

The two magnets would always "trick" the screen into thinking the keyboard was open and switch it to landscape mode. I always had to wait a few seconds for the screen to switch back when I took it out of the case.
This does NOT happen with the Tilt. The screen stays in portrait mode. I have always liked the quality of the case and the magnets in the flap make it easy to open and shut. So now it is my perfect solution.

no issues here

I have been using a case with two magnetic studs on the flip closure for months now and have had zero issues. Bought mine at Fred Meyers and recomend anyone in need of a good black leather horizontal pouch case to check it out. was 15 dollars and is of the same quality and fit as 40 dollar cases you may see online.
cheers

I've been using a Motorola Case designed for the Q9 with my Tilt and it's worked out quite well. It also has a single magnetic stud closure and I have noticed no issues at all.

I bought the PDair Book Type case same week the Tilt first came out here in the U.S. I have had no problems at all. Non of that shutting off by itself thingy people complain about.

Magnetic cases
Some cases cause screen to wake up, some don't. To eliminate the problem just turn off Slide Wake option in registry. When slide wake is enabled opening the keyboard (or getting too close to a magnet) will wake the screen. Turn this option off and you can use magnetic clasps at will.

How is your Universal holding up?

I've been using my Exec for little over a month now, no scratch on the casing nor screen, but I just noticed the tampo print on the side camera and backlight buttons are rubbing off.. No biggie but I'm a bit anal about these stuffs. How is your Universal holding up so far?
As far as the front camera (the one for video calls) is concerned it is okay because my screen protector came with two small round pieces to cover this camera as well as the lense of the main camera.
Yes the print on the backlight button is almost gone after about 1 months of usage. I also find that some marks (about 10 at the moment) developing on the screen side of the cover. This I believe are being formed as the top of the keys rub against the screen side of the cover when it is closed. Rest of the finish I find is pretty good till now with no abnormal wear of the pait work or anything else.
Kind Regards
why the backlight button? what does it do? i have had 3 of these things now and none of them have ever done anything when i press the backlight button.
just curious
joe
I think all it does is turn the monitor light back on if it's off.. same thing as if you just tab on the screen

If I am not mistaken, he probably remapped the backlight button to lauch an application. Here is how:

yeah, one jasjar with vodafone - rip off data charges and they just wouldn't let me sign up for decently priced data chunks, and it had a dodgy screen, and 2 mda pro's - the first kept crashing so got sent a proper new replacement which is good so far.
keyboard marks on jasjar
hi everybody. i want to use my jas jar with the screen side outwards.. what happens is that i notice the keys of the keyboard tubbing against the metal portion of the cover (the outside) when i turn the screen outwards. will they cause marks on the surface.?
Keys are made of rubber like material so it is very unlikely that it will cause scratch marks. I have a Piel Frama case which has a film like material covering the keys. Thats the best solution if scratching the device is your main fear
hi
using mine in laptop mode ever since i got it in mid oct, no scartches on screen and none of the buttons lost markings and except for two marks on side of screen because of the two elevated rubber protectors, no other scatch or mark any where else on the body.
I dont use any screen portector or any case but always make sure that i dont have anything else in my pocket except Exec like keys etc
hi .. sadly there are no o2 exec or imate jasjar cases availabe here in india. if anybody knows please let me know .. thanks
You can purchase them online from Piel Frama or Brando or PDAir or Proporta....
The pivot worked loose, but there a thread on how to fix it.
Going to try later this week.
bougt it in october, not really been using it but every thing is still ok. It needs resetting very 2 days coz it crashes. it cashes mainly in contacts list and other time during the change over from landscape to portrait.
never had a pda before.
does this happen much to others?

Keyboard Slider and Standard Case Problem

I am an ex Blue Angel owner, and i have had the Wizard for about 7 months now, and the phone is perfect (size, battery, keyboard), however there is one problem that has been bugging me.
I use the standard case, as i like the format. however when i recieve a phone call and i remove it from the case, the screen 8 times out of 10 turns to landscape then back to portrait, and this prevents me answering the phone for 30 seconds or so until the screen turns back, as the hardware buttons dont respond. However i never figured what cused this, until i read through an unrelated post that it was caused my the magnets in the case. and testing this by waving the case over the surface of the phone reproduces this problem.
now i am stunned that they bundled this case with the phone, and i am in the market of looking for another without the magnets i.e snap button.
does anyone know of an an alternative case that is horizontal that has the same belt clip?
i have seen the Krussel Horizontal Case http://www.addonsworld.co.uk/product.php/21636/3384/, but i dont like the detachable belt clip. as i envisage the phone coming off it unlike a vertical case that has gravity and a low pivot point keeping it steady.
has anyone got any suggestions?
I've got the same probleme with my qtek 9100.
Hi Fuzzy [EDIT: and Alex],
some weeks ago I did a search for HTC Wizard on Froogle, and I found a lot of accessories: aluminium hard-cases, new styluses, loudspeaker mountings, modfied desktop stands...
Case-specific search:
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=htc+wizard+case&btnG=Search+Froogle
I am sure there is a case that fits your needs.
Greetz
Raubi
unfortunately i have looked through all the 8 pages of hits and there is not a case that is suitable. the nearest to what i want is a case made by sena http://www.senacases.com/cart/home.php?cat=413 however it itself has a magnetic clasp, so will most likely result in the same problem
I want a case like the original with same type of belt clip and without a magnetic clasp. Does anyone have or use such a case, or can confirm that the sena cases arent afflicted with the same problem.
Turn your phone over!!!
When you put the phone in the OEM case, have the screen facing your body (away from the magnetic clasp). This will accomplish 2 things:
1. Prevents the magnet from activating Landscape Mode.
2. Provide extra protection from direct impact for your screen.
I have always done this and never experienced the Landscape issue.
For me that doesnt work, infact it makes it worse i've just removed the phone like that from the case a few times and it change orientation every time. the magnet is contained in the flap and it triggers the screen change every time weather it brishes past the back or the front of the phone.
I have just bought the Krussell case from my first post after not succeeding finding an alternative, i think that with a belt clip it will be unsafe and will stick out much further than the original case, however it does have loops to loop belts through, so that may be the tradeoff i need.
I will let you know how i get on when i recieve the case next week.
what i am most surprised at is either HTC or the mobile carriers not picking up on the problem and selecting a different case.
but the one thing i have figured is that if the magnet is contained purely on the pouch and not the flap (i.e. the flap has metal in it) then this problem would not happen. and if i twisted the phone away from the case when removing it... and ...and ...and..... there would probably be lots of ways to get around it not happening, but in the real world in everyday use when i remove the phone it does happen and it causes me to miss lots of phone calls...

questions about magnetic car holder

hi guys! i just wanna ask if the magnets on these magnetic car holders actually affects your pda/phones? im thinking of buying this one http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=746&t_mode=des and i thought of attaching the magnet directly at the back of the tytn. will it have any effect being there all the time. will it affect the electronics or whatever on the pda/phone.
thanks
Magnets won’t affect a PDA or mobile.
The only thing that it effects it the screen orientation if the magnets are too close to the lower left side corner.
I just discovered that it’s less sensitive then the wizard.
Just try to move the magnet of your carrying case around your TyTN and see if it changes the orientation of your screen.
Mine did it once but never again.
Cheers,
Drifter
that's cool then
cheers

Automatically changing to landscape...

I've had an issue with my Wizard since the day I bought it. Every so often if I remove my Wizard from its pouch on my belt and switch it on out of standy by, the screen is in landscape mode and then only after 1 or 2 seconds returns to the normal upright position. Now at first I thought that as I remove it from the pouch, perhaps I open the slide slightly and then push it back as I get it into position in my hand...not the case however...
Then I started thinking, How does the Wizard know that the slide is being opened? I checked the Service Manual and there is no physical switch (at least not that I can see) so perhaps it is done with Magnitism or Induction on the upper part and lower part of the slide.
Only then I got to the conclusion that my pouch has got two magnets that keeps it closed (original pouch that came with my device..Qtek 9100) perhaps as I move the Wizard out of the pouch the magnets interfere with the Wizard's slide-open-closed magnetic "switch"....?
Has anyone got the same problem? It does not bother me all that much I would just like to know if I am all alone and/or am I going crazy?

This is due to the pouch having a magnet in it, that makes the PPc think that you have pulled out the keyboard, as the phone as a small magnet so it knows when to change and when not to!!!
That is what i thought... thanx for confirming this..

Nike Slide sensor is magnet sensitive!

I'm not sure if anyone has seen this slightly strange problem with the Nike design.
I was investigating why my Orange UK Nike battery life was poor, and why I was getting some strange call answer behaviour (the phone would only ring once before answering, and spontaneous ring my last number dialled!). I have a belt buckle case with a magnetic clip that I keep my Nike in when at work. I discovered that when I put the nike in the case, it always wakes up from standby, even if it was locked.
I then put the Nike turned off and locked with the slider closed, next to the magnet on the case and found that not only turned on, but also went straight to the grey options screen (that say new email, new sms etc).
It therefore seems that the slide sensor is magnet activated, and therefore everytime I put it in the case it would turn on and stay active, therefore killing the battery. As all the buttons were then active, the call button was also activated in the case (mostly calling my wife on a regular basis!)
Has anyone else seen this?
does it with a samsung D500 mobile as well
i use strong magnets for inspection at work and whenever i am holding it close to my pocket i hear the sound of the slider going up and down (even though it doesnt move in my pocket)
Hi,
I tried it and yes... I have the same behaviour when I hold a magnet near the HTC logo.
Thanks for the replies. I guess people should avoid buying cases with magnetic clips.
neatly solved
i noticed this behaviour on the second day and returned my belt case and got a full refund at t for telecom store. used the phone without protection for 2 months now. today met representative from htc and spoke of this problem. he immediately gave me one of his own leather cases with velcro! great service!
I remember the HTC Wizard also had the same problem as it used magnets for the slideout keyboard as well.
