Battery Drain - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 ROM Development

How to detect the process that is draining the battery?
Does it exists a program to detect the usage of system resources?

No one is having significant battery drain??

no.i m not.all things are ok.

I notice a huge diference in battery life...
In normal use (no Wifi ou BT) i spend about 1% for each +-15-20min
How about you guys?

wifi consumes a lot of energy, so you can measure for how much time it will turn off from full battery. My battery fails and i have ordered a new one i will test it when i recieve the new one, but now it fails after 10 minutes of wifi usage

BA Very hot, and battery drains...FASTER.
I notice that i have battery drain since i've upgraded to wm6...
My BA it's very hot, i never seen it like this...
i have Wireless off, Beam off, Bluetooth off, low brightness...
Any one knows what's happen? Is it problem of WM6 or some application?
Is there anything overcloking my Ba???

Exactly the opposite !! If u want it to last longer , just reduce the brightness to 40% , believe me ull get surprised..

Xeon.... i have the brightness at minimum, but i think that the problem is not that... i always used brigtness like this...
theres some problem with this rom or with some application...

i dont think it's because of the ROM . i played Holdem Poker on my device 2 days ago it was fully charged and 4 hours later i got 34% remaining with Level : 2 Brightness , no wifi , gprs , bluetooth or MMC/SD installed . ( 1450mah battery )

well, it drains a bit faster, but...

WM6 is very good and stabble its a very good upside!
I've tested the following:
- No Wifi
- No BT
- No GPRS
- Brightness 100%
- SD inserted
- No operation at all (timers for backlight an turn off at 60min)
O got the following drainage:

Can anyone test in WM5 the same scenario? or in another WM6?

Mine is OK. I don't experience bigger drains than the WM5 baniaczek.

flyboy
I'm having +/- the same values that you post....
2% drains in 5 minutes.
Theres something that is making this... My BA is HOT, i've never seen it like this.
Problem from some application or from the rom... but what?

i've also noticed the temperature issue...

I dont have that temperature Issue . Maybe your XDA is sick or suffering from an inflammatory disease ? scan for viruses

so there is not significant battery drain in this rom, test without the home today plugin and you will find this out
i can not test much until i got the new battery

i do not have the heating problems, it is now, working from yesterday 3am and now, it is 4:45pm and i have 37% remaining. my usage is mostly web

so the conclusion is that it does not drain battery so drastic - it wirks in normal amounts of energy consuming. maybe all with problems should think about new battery - i did, i can not blame roms for this because it was happening with my wm5 also and the same is with wm6 so the problem is in my device

Well fact for me is that it gets hot!
I skipped the WM5 hype so for me its a looking at 2003 (1.42) and this wm6 rom.
From my point of view its does use more power than before.
Wifi uses even more than before.
Its subjective and I can live with it.
@Flyboy
Did you have a home plugin or the standard rom ?
If so can you do the same test with / without it.
That would not be subjective and would may be point a finger

I didnt have battery draining problem with HTC today plugin , but i started to notice after i installed the iphone.cab simulator that it's draining more than 20% faster than ever !! I believe maybe it's because the plugin needs to load more than 30 dll files with 251 priority and 11 threads and keep them running in the RAM . Another thing , be sure to end task the Active sync because when u unplugg the devices it keeps running on your PPC as background process ( dont ask me WHY ) .

Samsung GT-T5800. Android OS 2.1-update 1, I5800XXJH1, Kernel 2.6.29 root SE-S603 #2.
The problem:
1. Battery till 50% discharges normally - about 10-15% per day, but after 50% it immediately shows 15% and asks to connect charger and phone switches off very fast. actually no chance to mane even emergency call. No 40%, no 30%, no 20% in battery level.
2. When connect phone to charger - battery charging level immediately set to 80% or every ~10 seconds: 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%. After that phone charges about 1,5-2 hours till 100% and after about 1-2hours it asks to disconnect from the charger. Battery temperature during charging and after it: 31-33C.
After 3d 8h 40min. (~80hours using applications: Battery booster and Memory Booster, no 3G) of battery usage phone switches off.
Battery usage was:
Android system: 61%
Cell Standby: 19%
Phone Idle: 12%
Bluetooth: 4%
Voice calls: 4%
Time from 15% to 5% - 15 minutes with no using the phone. Battery's temperature 20C, Voltage: 3588mV Phone switches off. I have tried 2-3 times to switch on the phone to make battery more empty and finally switched it on and at the same time connected it to charger.
Here is the interesting charging time line after phone died and was switched on to charge it (sorry - no in seconds):

After this charge GT-I5800 (with no any software changes) stoped to show 50% to 15%, but 30% disappears fast to 15% (it means one short call).
Possible that battery issue reason is that (I think) phone was charged partly switched off and partly switched on.
Maybe there are some battery level controlling OS software bugs, I do not know.
Is it official bug or issue?
Or some guru can comment that battery level issue? I saw I was not first user having it.
should be from the firmware
it seems this happening to all
Well i also have exactly the same issue...
I have observed that when i make/recieve a call the battery voltage decreases greatly because of which the battery also decreases and after sometime the battery voltage comes back to normal but NOT the battery.
My battery also drops down from 50% to 15% or 5%.....It's really very annoying...
I think that this is a frimware issue but i am not sure..I am scared that it could be a hardware issue...
Well i have mailed Samsung also regarding this issue so that they fix this issue in the next frimware upgrade and hope others also do the same so that we have a better chance of this bug getting fixed.....!!!

And when I switch off / on the phone then it shows probably correct vallue. For an example. It shows me 15% and after restart it is 60 %. What a stupid bug - I've never have this problem with any device before. Even phones 10 years ago were able to show correct battery status. I think this problem was also with original 2.1 android firmware.
Can someone who has upgraded to froyo pl. confirm that this issue is resolved in the new firmware?

yes, in JP9 / froyo is still this battery problem. When I switch on / off the phone then it's ok. Does someone resolved this issue please ?
My issue still exists. Froyo did not help. Also I can't understand why does one time on charging battery becomes hot, another time -cold.
same for me, and today i charged my phone and after charging just put it on my table after 1h i saw that there are only 80%. Didn't see this on other firmwares
Same here. I thought it is because of my battery manager widget which I had installed, but un-installing/master clear also did not help. Looks like it is major problem. Moreover, few of the battery widgets mention that in some devices they report 1% level battery change, but in Samsung I5801, it will be 10%.
what about this issue at JPA ?
when you was installing JPA did you hard reset your phone ? (factory settings)
If yes which application do you use for restore all of the datas and settigns ?
Yes, it was done. Hard reset seems is not related, and did not help.
Same problem here...
Since built in battery meter is not accurate at all Im using custom one but problem remains.
might fix battery issue.
might work...saw it for Epic 4g and gave it a shot (as its Samsung too). Some sites say LiON do not have memory like NiCd did but somehow it worked for me. Now I stay on 100% for 5hrs or so. lasting 2 days with 45mins call time and some Wifi use. Like today charged full 100% at 9AM and now its 2230 and I have 80%.I have switched off a lot of things. See below.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701567
Above needs to be done once only. If it doesn't work then go to service center. Remember battery has 6 months warranty only so be quick and try above on new battery.
I also run LauncherPro instead of stock. Disabled data and enable when out of AP range (only use Wifi when needed and have an AP). Background data/synch is always off unless I use market. All apps are set to never except Gmail. Use K9 Email too and ATK. Am on DDj6 FM. Have removed a lot of apps, foursquare included and run 2 screen with LauncherPro widgets only.
Settings to switch off are here.

As long as I know li ion batteries doesnt have the memory effect but they still have to be recalibrated from time to time, lets say once a month. That means dont charge the phone until it goes off and then charge to the top.
I wasnt willing to wait for 11 hours for phone to charge when I bought it and after few days I ve notice that battery last very short. After that I ve performed the full cycle (drain to the bottom - when phone turn itself off, then after few minutes turn it on, wait until it goes off - repeat few times until its completely off then charge it fully - I usually turn off the phone while charging ).
As long as I know all modern devices like phones, notebooks etc shut down before the battery is completely drained because they want to have safe margin of the battery power because of, as long as I know, when li ion batteries become completely drained then could be damaged completely so you cant recharge them again. Anyway with that "turn on then its drained" I believe that I use the battery more than normal and that phone will recalibrate to the new situation figuring that battery have more voltage than phone "expected".
Anyway with few recharging cycles like those I ve described above I can use the phone now for a 2 days with moderate usage...
That 50-15 problem still exist but 100% period last quite long and also phone can be used a long time from the moment battery reach 15% ...
Try doing it the other way round!
Keep your device on constant charge or at least as much as possible for 10 days from new and you should have now problem.
I have run tests on Lion powered devices for the past 5 years and I have never had to "calibrate" once.
My battery usage is always consistent and seemingly accurate.
And this method encourages max power from the battery.

[Q] custom roms and battery usage

hej there.
i wanted to know which custom rom for htc tattoo has the longest batterylife.
i use SPQRom 0.7 and its holding one day(about 18-20hours),but im playing alot and my wifi is min 3 hours on.if i wouldnt do that i thnik it would hold for sure 2 days.
how long holds your battery, which rom do you have and do you use some program for it(like advanced task killer)?
Hmm, my phone is pretty much constantly charging from usb since I'm working on my roms all the time. But on my latest gingerbread rom, just now, I'm still at 100% after 8 hours. Pretty much just been in standby in this time.
Battery use:
Cell standby: 49%
Phone idle: 48%
Wi-Fi: 2%
Display: 3%
oh realy?thats very good.
which rom is it
1.KalimGingerAz 10.8 Gingerbread 2.3.2
or
2.nFinityGB v0.6 - Gingerbread 2.3.2
??
nFinityGB, obviously.
My stock ROM also show 100% for 6-8 hr after that direct show 94-95% than after 10 min show 89-90%
what is this going on
EDIT 1 my sister have htc p3400i (WM 6) 2year old when it charging it show 100% in an hour but if i use it it works only for 5-6 hrs if i charge it for 3-4 hrs it work for 1.5-2 days
is my software going corrupted how i can correct it ?
I think this is normal. The drop from 100% to 90% will always be faster than a drop from 90% to 80%. It has to do with they way the battery is charged. Although it says 100%, it's not really charged to 100% because of safety routines in the charging code preventing damage to the battery. Or so I read somewhere.

Does battery drain faster below a certain %?

This is odd. On idle, it took nearly 3 hours to go from 62% to 61% which I'm very happy with. After that it started going down a bit quicker. Waking up after 7 and a half hours, the battery had gone from 49% to 42%, so about 1% per hour. While that's not so bad, why would it start to go down fast? Since it took nearly 3 hours to move 1%, I'd have thought it should be at about 46 or 47% after waking up. Is there a % threshold where the battery drains quicker?
Current uptime, mostly from idle, and power saving mode from 50%.

maybe this battery drain problem started randomly on you device after 61% ...
but you do not have this wifi sharing or manager app that drain battery..this is strange..maybe your battery needs to be calibrated

[Q] Call standby and WLAN eating battary

Hi, got my e7 2 days ago, updated to kk.
Everything working but call standby and WLAN eating battery, screen on for 3h 10min(consumed 10% of battery) and after 12h I have only
10% battery left. The phone wasn't awake while screen is on so it is probably not an app keeping the phone awake..
So .. wifi is always on(on battery stats, but I turned if off for 3h) and even so it shouldn't consume 28% of battery.
Standby consumed 29% of battery! But always got full signal and talked just for 10-15min.
I've done root with 360root and remove(suspend)some apps with 360root.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Why is my Galaxy S6 edge plus's battery draining so fast?

I recently bought this phone and I have noticed that the battery is draining fast. The battery level dropped by almost 10% in 15-20 mins while I was just doing normal texting. I have used the phone in safe mode as well and in standby mode the phone just lasted for 24 hrs as opposed to 3 days of standby time as claimed by Samsung. So I was just wondering if there is an issue with my battery or with the phone or if this is normal in S6 edge plus?
Stats according to GSAM Battery Monitor,
Used 85% in 20 hr 10 min
phone - 0%
Screen - 2 hr 47 mins - 25%
Phone radio - 20 hr - 6%
Wifi Active - 20 hr - 3%
Held awake - 7 hr - 1%
App usage - 64% (With Android OS - 24% and Kernel - 10%)
I have already tried restarting the device and the problem still exists and always keep location off. And in terms of data I keep my wifi on and the apps that I use r only 3-4 like facebook, whatsapp, instagram. The main source of battery drainage is android system and screen. I was wondering is it possible that there is a problem with my battery/hardware and I should get it replaced? or it just could be a bug in the system that can go away after the marshmallow update? Coz originally I thought that there is a problem with my battery but now it seems like it could be an Android OS bug.
Had similar issue.
I had similar issue,
Looks like Samsung software's were using lot of RAM and battery.
Disabled most of the apps which I don't use and also the Microsoft stuff.
NFC off. Smart stay off,
Now battery backup is good.
I think everyone is having the same issue with the battery. If the marshmallow update doesn't fix all the issues I'm having I'm jumping ship. I'm at 77% with 58 m on screen time

Yes. I guess u r right, a lot people r complaining about the battery issues. For me i just used my phone for 45 mins with the same screen time and got down to 79% from 100%.
But its surprising to see how some people r getting tremendous battery performance with the screen time of almost 6 hrs in one full charge. Which makes me feel is there a problem with my phone hardware or its just an android system bug.
I have the same problems and I did a lot of testing. I am only getting as much as 10h of TOTAL battery time (I am not talking about SOT). Get it out of the charge at 7~8AM and have to charge it 5PM. I did a post about it here.
