Creating A Dial Up Connection - P3600 General

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to create a dial up connection to a landline number.
Ive created a connection using the cellular line, however the other end doesn't even ring.
Any ideas?
I'm using wm6 btw
Thanks
Rob

datacalls connections as in not being gprs
cant connect to a normal analog modem if thats what you are trying
they can only connect to special gsm modems at ones
isp

Ok never mind.
How frustrating, thanks anyhow

If you are talking about plain CSD data call, Trinity actually supports it - in a somewhat hit and miss manner.
You have to try dialing 10 times and one 1 and 2 might pass through and get successful modem negotiation. It's strange - but I believe it's a bug of HTC....

Access To Corperate Network Via RAS dial in ?

Hi All, well hope some one can help, as have no hair left to pull out. Our company has various free phone ras dial in numbers. I am tring to get my xda to dial into these numbers to allow me to be able to access our servers using terminal services, when problem arise. (all legal here, Its my job)
Is this possible using the xda as the os for the procedure ?
If I use the xda in a cradle connected to a laptop then I can dial in no problem and use terminal services fine on the xda, but there seem little point when I have a connected laptop......!!!!!
What I would like to be able to do is dispose of the laptop and do it all on the xda, has anyone managed or is doing this.
Any ideas would be great, as have ran out of them.
Cheers
Waftycranker
Hey W.C. - Does your company have a public IP address that the Terminal Server is running on? I use the Terminal Services Client through GPRS all the time and it works great. I guess if you have to pay per kb with GPRS then I guess I see why you would want to dial in. I never tried the dial in method. Good luck - Jim
@JimDavis
I can't see what your problem is. (you did't mention)
I use that with my dial-in to my company
* Just setup a Cellular Line Connection (not gprs)
* Enter the Phone Number
* Enter your User/Password maybe Domain
and you are in
Maybe you need to modifiy the Linetype setting analog/digital (i.e. v.110 or v.34)
Does your provider support Data Calls on your Phone-Nr.?
Fidl
Hi Guys, thanks for the help, but still that darn computer system will not let me in. Dials up ok but just keep getting the error message " There was no answer at the number dialed. Varify phone number and try again etc etc etc"
Yet if I use my laptop at the same time, same number all is fine so I now the number and line and username and password and domain are ok.
May need some super glue soon to piece my xda back together again, know any good makes.
Any more ideas ? anybody

Dial-in data call with XDA
Many GSM cullalar carriers who offer GPRS data packages block regular data calls over their network in an effort to push the GPRS stuff.
My carrier in Canada does this which gives me the exact same error you get.
Call your carrier.
Cheers... Peter
Will O2 be getting a call in the morning..... I THINK SO !!!!
Cheers, will let you all know how it goes.

Try checking the Proxy Settings tab under your profile. The "This network connects to the Internet" box should be unchecked. This may be why it only works with your computer.
Update
Contacted O2 and after 5 diffrent numbers and 30 minutes on hold, they are enabeling something their end. This will take 24 hrs, working days only.
Note: Noticed how payment and billing systems work 24/7 365 yet anything that will maybe help you works 9~5 Mon - Fri.... or is it just me.
Will update Monday
God knows why I thought that an service provider would be able to help, they are good at removing money from my account, but little all else.
Acording to them I have everything enables on my account, yet I stiil am unable to dial up using my company ras connection numbers. Still the same error message as before.
Could really do with checking settings etc with anybody who is able to dial up to their corparate network.
My mail is [email protected]
Cheers for any help.

Every time I've seen this it has been because the provider didn't have CSD (Circuit Switched Data) calls enabled. Can you try some other type of dialup modem, such as an ISP, just to be sure it's not your company? I'll bet they didn't really enable CSD.
It may be more than that. I am able to dial up to my company via CSD however my employee collegues using the same RAS service/company etc are unsuccessful.
Recheck the Proxy Settings tab under your profile.
The "This network connects to the Internet" box should be unchecked. This may be why it only works with your computer.
The other solution is to see if your company provides a VPN RAS. Ifso, you can dial up using GPRS.
I had this problem
Was trying to dail in and sync outlook
never got it working, but i cured the no answer thing by editing the the dailing location info. turned out that it was dailing completely the wrong number. simple stuff but worth checking!

T-Mobile US is nice to allow this and charge air time as if it were a voice call - you get nights and weekends for free data. 7Kpbs is not too bad surfing the net with graphics turned off.

Using your HTC Wizard to dial out on a analog phone line or Tiscali DSL Phone

Hi guys,
I want to use my HTC Wizard to call out on the "normal" or DSL phone line when I am at home. This beacause all phone calls to all national non mobile numbers are free.
My PC is connected to the DSL Modem (ZYXEL P-2602HW-D1A) and with a modem connected to the phone out put of the modem and to the normal analog line.
Is there any one who has experience with this?

The answer is likely to not be as easy as you expect, although it may not be that hard.
Your modem may or may not work, when you do voice over a modem the modem needs to know this and not demand a carrier tone and other things that signal a data connection. Some modems are known to work in this capacity others are known to work very poorly (lots of echo) and others are known to not work at all. The majority of modems are not known whether or not they will work at all.
In short the easiest way to accomplish this task is to send data from your phone VoIP to your PC. There are free clients out there such as sjphone from sjlabs.com. You will likely want a headset on your phone as most dont use the same speaker as a regular phone call but instead the speakerphone and echo cancelation doesnt work well (the remote side will hear echo without headphones).
Now that your phone is taken care of you need something on the other side. Here you have choices. If you have a compatible modem you can use that as an FXO card with software like asterisk.org and soon freeswitch.org. If you do not have a compatible card, or do not wish to run VoIP software on your PC you can get an ATA that has an FXO port and lets you route calls to/from it. Grandstream.com has some, the HT486 comes to mind. I believe the linksys pap2 will also do this. Ebay may be your friend in locating a fairly cheap one, although they arent that expensive - and you are doing this to save money so depending on the number of calls you make it may pay for itself soon
Once you have this set up, you can actually choose to call people via your mobile plan or landline or even an internet based telephone company. Depending on how well you configure everything, you could in theory have it use all of those things, and you can even route calls from those services to your phone (ie get phone numers all over the world and answer them on your mda when you have internet).
All your mda needs is wifi/usb/gprs. And for those providers that block VoIP on gprs shame on you (and they generally dont block vpn traffic or even know what the contents of that are
Port restricted Cone NAT
Thanks for your support.
The WIFI way with a direct connetion to my Modem will do for now, but I have got the following problem there.
The error that is displayed is the following:
NAT/Firewall: Port Restricted Cone NAT
The settings which I have entered are the same as in my Modem:
Zyxel: P-2602HW-D1A

Anybody who knows how to solve this or who has experience with VOIP provided by Tiscali or other ISP using your HTC Wizard

Trinity data link and lost calls problems

Hi all
I am wondering about the purchase of a Trinity. Someone, on an italian forum, has posted the problem of incoming calls lost (the caller receives a busy line signal or the phone results unreachable) while the phone has a data connection active (apparently only an HSDPA one). Has any one observed a similar problem ?
Thank you everyone.

This is standard behaviour when transferring data over 2G GPRS. It should not happen on 3G. I have received phone calls while using 3G data and the phone rang as normal.... I can't report about HSDPA (is there a simple way to check if HSDPA is actually used?)

No, it's not, voice calls always have higher priority even in 2G networks.
Can someone else confirm this issue with Trinity?

Well.... it's the third time in a few days in this forum that I post something and I am told that I am wrong. The previous two times in the end I happened to be right, so according to statistics I should indeed be wrong this time!
However I think I might be right this time too! The standard behaviour with GPRS sessions is that they are interrupted when they are idle and an incoming call is received; if data is being transferred then the phone will be busy.
Obviously for outgoing calls the phone will stop the data session when you want to make a call.
(All this for GPRS on GSM)
PS: You don't believe me try to use a GSM phone as GPRS modem for a PC, start a large file transfer and try to receive a call.

Well, since I use GPRS internet for more than 3 years actively and have changed a couple of phones already I must say that GPRS system is projected in a way that voice calls are priority in any situation. In this years I have found that sometimes my phone is not reachable when I'm connected to a GPRS but that percentage is rather small, could be some other problems related to a base stations.
In your case I would think of contacting your operator, change phone or just change a carrier, being unreachable during GPRS sessions is something that I will characterized as bug, at least. NHF

You are right. It was a very common bug in the early Class B GPRS phones and I thought it was supposed to be like that, but indeed even a class B device should suspend the data session and ring when a call is received.
However I am reading in other forums that this is now happening again with HSDPA.... the joy of early adoption

I had some strange behavior like a busy signal when I had my phone set to 3G only, but I think it was because of marginal reception. I changed the frequencies to automatic and haven't had any problems since.

Hello hawk971,
I have the exact same experience while being persistently connected on the Swedish HSDPA network (Hi3G) I cannot receive or even make calls, most of the time. It's like i can sometimes manage to "slip through" with a call, and even an incoming call can get through if i'm lucky. I have figured out that if i end the data connection and make the call, i can re-login with the connection and keep babbling on the phone.
The problem started to appear right after we moved to a different area where HSDPA is deployed, at first the problem was very sproadic, but now the network is growing, so does the blocked calls.
Luckily i get an sms from the 3 network saying that someone has tried to call without leaving a message, otherwise i'd be clueless.
I have considered contacting 3 operator to discuss this, but i reckon i might loose the HSDPA access then because i have only 3G subscription but somehow my phone (which is purchased without operator lock and not from 3) snaps right onto the HSDPA access nevertheless. I have a consistent 1Mbits/s DOWNLINK and 350kbits/s UPLINK connection while running TPTEST on the laptop and using the P3600 with internet sharing and USB-cable.
I so would like to be able to stay on the HSDPA but right now i am considering to drop the high-speed since the phone part is basically rendered useless. I am also using GpsGate in the car, so my internet is always on, transmitting position, i guess that makes the problem worse. I might have to drop that...
I had a friend told me he had the same problem with TyTn and Hi3G here in Gothenburg. That makes me think that there's no particular problem with my phone. Rather it's a network problem that they yet have to solve.
Anyway, that's a long post!
P.S. Does anyone know how i can disable/enable HSDPA on the P3600 easily?
Cheerio
just remove link to "enableHSDPA.exe" in \windows\startup folder and soft reset you phone.
I can't find this file (enableHSDPA.exe) anywhere in my P3600....
Bump!
SecureGSM can you please elaborate a bit on this .exe file. I have a standard HTC P3600 and I don't see this file anywhere in the file system.
i'd like to know how i enable HSDPA on my HTC P3600. has anyone had success doing so?

I recently installed the fit4can or HTweakC as it is now called from here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry. It allows you to turn off HSDPA and do other tweaks to your Trinity. No harm is done since you can turn the HSDPA back on again anytime. Since I upgraded to the new 1.38 Radio, I was picking up HSDPA all the time at home, and every time my phone was auto checking email I'd miss calls. This HSDPA "feature" needs a little work.

UMTS and phonecalls together

I searched this forum, but found no answer to my following question:
I have a Hermes with WM6.
A coworker also wants to buy this device (or similar), but had one question I couldn't answer::
Is it possible to use a WM6 device as a modem for my laptop to use UMTS (3G) or GPRS and still be able to receice phonecalls?
I never used this sollution, so I wasn't sure.
He needs to use the device as a wireless modem very often, but is afraid that he loses phonecalls during this time.
Has anyone an answer to this?
thanks
Martijn
hi.... depending on the network. say, some networks setup by ericcson have a bug, as i am told.
You can connect to 3g/gprs. However, if you make a call or receive a call, if you have a data transfer happening simultaneously, it will stop. Your connection will not break. But whatever you were doing will sieze. You can resume your internet activity once the phonecall ends.
If you have a network setup by one of the other players like nokia siemens, then you will not have this problem
@mirage22
I don't realy follow you. You say that it depens on the network, but speak of Nokia, Ericson and Siemens. Do you mean this will work with Nokia,..etc phones and not with the hermes (TyTN)? Or is it dependent of the network provider (Like T-Mobile/Vodaphone)?
It seems to me that if you have a 3G connection, it's still possible to place and receive phonecalls. Just like receiving an sms. That's also possible when in a phonecall..
Isn't this something a lot of people do every day?

This is normal. GPRS and voice calls use the same radio, so when the data connection is active, voice calls won't work. Former co-worker had this (we tested it) with a wizard. He started the data connection, I tried calling his number, and my call went immediately to the voice mail system. There are two ways to change this behavior:
1. Use 3G
2. Use a phone with dual radios

I've never heard of a setting like that. It may be something that your carrier has on it's own version of the ROM, or something that is available on other phones.
I know my wife's hermes will drop the data connection when a voice calls comes in (happened a few days ago with an official HTC ROM), but I've never seen a setting that is changeable.
Try turning on Call Waiting, that sometimes works, depending on carrier.
i get the same problem.its not your phone because it happens to me when am using my n95 on edge.so i just bought a cheap ass phone n diverted all calls to that number when unavailable.at least am not missing any important calls that way..
i get the same problem to when using the tytn too..so i use the same solution

I check but problem is not solved.
"This is normal. GPRS and voice calls use the same radio, so when the data connection is active, voice calls won't work. "
no it's not a phone or general thing it's how modern the central one connects to is
older ones block, newer ones pause gprs while the call is on
newest can multiplex and run both at once and not just for 3g and edge
the fact that you don't get this problem on other operators could be down to two things.
1: the other operators have programmed their networks correctly to give priority to voice rather than data, and so they pause the GPRS and route the call to you.
2: the other networks give you 3G rather than GPRS. this is more likely to allow simultaneous voice and data.
Of course, as rudegar said, it depends on the infrastructure of the operator. I know of many networks in europe where the network is programmed to go straight to voicemail even on 3G/HSDPA. talk about not using the full potential of the technology....

Ah, I wasn't aware of this. So if I understand correctly, if the radio (and stack) is modern enough, the data connection will be 'on hold' while the voice is handled, then pick up where it left off, correct? Or is that handled by the carrier, or a combination of the two?
