Scratches on Athena body - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Hello,
i want to change my Ameo in a new one because there are a lot of scratches on the front body. The reason is that the keyboard slipping on the surface of the body.
If any one have the same problem please Post it here because i want to show T- Mobile that this is a failure of construction.

Mine is exactly the same, I tried to take a picture, but it wasnt comming out very well, I was quite annoyed because I tried to keep it good. Does anybody know if this happens with the black ones or is it just silver. mine isnt insured and T-Mobile wouldnt entertain me for insurance because it was 3 months old. though I have heard you can insure it online somewhere.

i've got the same kind of scratches at exactly the same positions.
but i don't think t-mobile will do anything about this
i'ts a normal sign of use

I have some scratches as well, fairly similar to yours. I'll have some pics made if I can get a hold of a good enough camera.

I have a scratch at the bottom of the screen surround. The keyboard clear top has a tiny bump on it (from where it was moulded i think) and this has scratched the case! If it had a decent leather case then it wouldnt happen!

Same here, Same scratches, same area..
Guess we need to find a decent case to carry our precious around in...
Something that has some padding between the 2 parts.

Mine doesn't have this problem. Not a single scratch at all. It still look brand new. I don't use the keyboard or the leather case though. I just carry mine "naked" with my DIY belt pouch. I just have the standard free plastic screen protector over the screen area only and not the body.
This is ironic. The keyboard is supposed to protect but does the opposite.

It definetely does protect (the screen from cracks).
And imho some scratches on the body of the ameo are much better than a cracked screen

You now, we are speaking about a 800€ all in one device? Such a failure must not happen. If you had a 800€ Notebook with the same problem you would complaine about.

This is what my U1000 looks like close to the VGA camera on the front.
There are 2 more areas where I have some damage but I can't capture it properly on camera.

This is why we should take out insurance on our most expensive phones, as i hate scratches on my phones and if you complain about it with your provider/supplier and they are not willing to replace it when its a manufacture defect then i would personally claim on my insurance QUOTE (MY PHONE IS LOST/STOLEN TO GET BACK A REPLACEMENT) Its too expensive a device for it to scratch so easily.

I have the black HTC Advantage and I have the scratches too.

I have the black Athena and barely any scratches on mine. I use the stock case. The only time I got it scratched is when I first got it because I tried to use it without the case. Mistake on my part.
If you search the forum, you can also buy a $25 solution that protects your entire Athena. It's a plastic transparent covering that protects the entire body of the device. I think I may have posted it in the past to the accessories area. Well worth the tiny investment to protect the looks of your device.

Yep, I have the Black HTC Advantage X7500 and I have no scratches on it. I also do carry naked in my pocket especially around the office to meetings. However, I do feel I need something to protect it without gaining the bulk. I am still looking for a belt clip to carry it.

Just found this product.
http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/HTCX7500.html
Read good review on PocketPCThoughts for a different product.
Has anyone tried it? It states as full body shield which includes guards for keyboard as well.

Looks Intresting.. But we all know that these type of solution are never as easy to install (Esp. as there are 8 pieces for the Athena)
as they are in the Promo vidz. The vidz also mention that the film has Adhesive on it. How would this affect the deve by:
1. Discoloring over time
2. Being able to easily remove the film, if need or if damaged.
3. Being removed from the screen, without pulling the touchscreen's
touch sensor film off.
Has anybody tried this stuff yet? I think I'll wait for more feedback before I buy.

From some of comments, it seems easy to remove from a pda.
I don't know if that comment was from someone who works for ShieldZone though.

I just ordered one. I'm having it shipped via 3 day UPS. I'll post my thoughts once I try it out. For the cost it's worth a try. They also have a lifetime replacement policy so if they get screwed up you get a free one. We'll see how it goes.

I have it on for over 4 months. Search this very forum for an extensive discussion on it. Easy to install with the water spray bottle provided. The screen protector is a bit sticky so I took it off and used a regular one.
Don't ask any more questions. Just search for the original thread here

screen protector
you dont have a screen protector on your phone?? it shouldve came with your phone unless you got it else where. better get these
well i screwed up the one that came wit it by trying to get it perfectly on the screen, so after ripping it out over and over again i kept gettin dust on it, so i threw it away and for now i put that original one back that has the pictures on it and shows you how to tilt ur phone? u know the one that comes on it when its brand new wit "warnings" and stuff...
either way...i am about to purchase either the "Expert Shield" or the pocket solution ones and i am tryin to get some feedback on the pocket solution ones first before purchasing. as for now, i have my phone on "baby mode" and am leaving it at home
geez...no one?
Expert Shield all the way. Don't even second guess it.
Expert Shield rocks. I have used them for my Tilt and a couple of cameras. You just have be careful putting them on. It is really easy to get dust under it if your not careful. Look on eBay and you can find them for really cheap shipped from either Hong Kong or Canada. Usually around $10 - $12 shipped. They are more expensive here.

+5 to that. i'm using them now on my tilt.
they're thick, yet flexible, have yet to show any wear from the stylus, & they haven't appeared to affect the touch sensitivity either.
It's been said by someone here that the Expert Shield protectors are just as good as the Martin Fields. He ruined one of his Martin Fields and I told him to try out ES and he said it was great.
They're a lot cheaper also.

I recommend Screen Patronus

PSP Screen protector
I'm using a Hiro PSP Screen protector (cut into size) covers 99.9% of the screen almost same thickness as with martin fields, but at a fraction of the price
It also doesn't affect screen sensitivity.

I second this, i got my a couple days ago. I love it, its more of a hard plastic type protector, alot better than those expensive sticky films you can buy.

I bought an Expert Shield and am VERY happpy with it. You're dead on about the dust thing and I'll add fingerprints to that list.
I did discover is that you can remove it and wash the sticky side off with warm water and a clean finger. Then pat dry lightly with lint free cloth for eye glasses. It will it go right back on just like new!!!! I did this three times in a row for fingerprints and dust that was bugging me.
Great product!!!

I'm using them, and they are ok for the money. There are better ones out there like the others are stating. But for 5 bucks, not a bad buy at all.
Also try Boxwave's ClearTouch, It's a bit pricey but man... after 2 month with this thing stick on my screen, it didn't even get a single scratch on it, hard as a rock! Also perfect fit. It's also washable and after wash it with soap and put it back on to your screen it looks like brand new... Well worth the money.
Link here.
Someone here linked them before I bought them and they are garbage. They are a pain in the ass to put on the first one I put on didnt cover enough of the screen and anything off of your fingers stays on there and its very hard to clean you have to use water. Mircofiber cloth wasnt good enough. Within two weeks it bubbled up and I had to trash the 1st one. The 2nd one that came in the pack was too big and it was also did not fit well. Oh yea
I dont recommend them.
Lifetime Shield
Invisible Shield. Thats the one.
Lifetime shield
The invisible shield does have a different feel to it, but its nothing thats a show stopper. The company is good for its work, they have already replaced one due to the lack of a camera opening for my tytn 2.

That's the stuff I used in my bathroom to frost my windows... I got it wet and slid it on.. used a squeegee and flattened it all out and 3 years later is is still sticking there.
The difference is that this is
1.) Clear
2.) Cut into the proper shape (you could do this yourself with some measuring but it saves hassle)
3.) the squeegee is probably smaller.
My bathroom windows are in a VERY humid environment... I have never had ANY peeling.
However I don't keep my bathroom windows in my pocket... so I don't know if the corners will peel up.
My main point is that for $24 of this "film" to cover a TINY phone... you can buy the same thing for $18 that would cover 10 phones... if the product works fantastic... the profit margin for them is HUGE. If it doesn't work... it's the biggest rip off ever.
See if Gila makes a clear one... get $18 worth and tinker away.

Since you've had the Fuze already... Is the shape exactly the same as the TP? It looks like sprints version is a little more round along the corners. I'd Like to go ahead and purchase one of these for the Fuze but don't want to have to send it back.

The only difference I noticed when seeing the 2 up next to each other was the shape of the speaker hole on the back, that might be enough to throw the protection off. Ask Raspster about it more, he had both the European and the Fuze at the same time, so he could tell you better than I could.
I got one, just to try it out.
Exactly as described above. Its a bit fiddly getting on but once on, it sticks very well.
Its great at sticking to flat surfaces, not so good on curves. And they don't even try and cover the corners on the device, which I would think are the places I'd want protected if I was to drop it.
The texture makes the back look very different from normal; its much nicer without the cover on. On the front, you can't really see the cover at all; edges are perfectly aligned with the phones edges.
The back and the front of the phone are covered very well. Sides not so great. Corners not at all. Front looks good. Back looks crap.
My opinion, its no way worth $24
just got mine on Friday exactly as it's described, protects almost every part of the phone with their cut out plastic shield, however as mentioned in earlier post... doesn't really cover the edges, all in all... does really stick and so far looks pretty ok with the exception of little bubbles within the shield (poor application technique)

I have used the Zagg's products (formerly Invisible Shield) on my 6800, 6700, wifes Centro and even custom ordered for my Pioneer 6800DVD in my car. I really like the product, the service is second to none... That said, I think since I have used the product and know how it performs in pockets, and how to install correctly (installed dozens of shields for myself, family and friends), I may try this new product.
Screen protection has always been great and flat surfaces (side) great as well but the corners usually give way, slide and start to bubble after about 4 months of heavy in and out of the pocket use.
This is a $24 experiment begging to happen.... now if Sprint would just release the damn phone!
I would also like to know this. Can it be removed again without leaving marks on the phone?
How scratch proof is it really?
Because of the lack of info on the site (still no video's on how to apply the thing, their forum is just about empty and they don't reply to customer questions...) they really don't seem to thrustworthy ...

I would get the one released by Zagg. They offer a lifetime replacement on all products and they will replace it no questions I know. Their stuff is nearly impossible to scratch and I TRIED just about everything to scratch it. All phones full covers are $25. Never had any bubbling issues with Zagg's products.
yes it can easily be removed without any mark left at all....I found the cover started to collect dusk a lot (it must be slightly sticky) so I removed it.

Trust me, I know oh too well the replacement process and have replaced and installed many over the last 5 years.
The fact that I know the Zagg product so well, makes the experiment more interesting. I know the Zagg stuff so well that I will know if this Clear Coat stands a chance AND since it's only $25... It might turn out to be junk, the company could not stand behind the guarantee BUT we'll see.
*Update
Just got my phone yesterday and I just ordered the Clear Coat. I'll install and do a little initial write up. I'll order the Zagg shield when it becomes available and do a comparison.
It's only money and it IS a $700 device.... (but I only paid $250 for it)
Stay tuned guys.
**Update
Just ordered a Zagg full body shield at 40% off as they just got them and were doing a Halloween special I guess. I should have the Cleat Coat on Mon/Tues and the Zagg will probably be here the week after. I think I'll install the Clear Coat first, use it for a week or so and then install the Zagg and do the same.

1-you dont need a screen protector for the HD2
the screen is s scratch resistance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcEaehKWr2s
there is other videos than this just search youtube
2-if you like
The screen may be glass, scratch-resistant glass too but the clue is in the name. Scratch-resistant, it's not scratch proof.
I suggest getting some screen protectors but that's just me. What harm can it do? I use a Vikuiti.
I also suggest getting a rubber case and a car holder if you need one. Check out netimes for this stuff.
another phone to send text messages with...
I suggest you buy somthing like InvisibleSHIELD, as my friend pointed out the screen is not scratch proof, also you may want to keep in mind protection of the casing!
Ignore the comments that you don't need a screen protector.
If you want a screen protector then buy one (or a few so you've got spares). There ARE people on here that have scratched their screen, in their pockets, with keys and/or change, so it can happen. It's just quite rare, hence the incorrect comments above.
Mine came with a leather pouch - the official one - and it's great. It was tight as anything when I first used it, but after a couple of days it had loosened up to perfection. It still needs to be pushed out - it won't fall - but it doesn't take a lot to get it out.
If yours doesn't come with one (some don't, unfortunately), there's plenty to choose from. Check the accessories forum where there's ongoing threads with plenty of choices.
Finally, as pointed out by BLAST3RR, GET INSURANCE!!! lol
The screen is definitely not scratch proof, I have some scuff scratches on the top right of my device from my pocket.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was picked at and ripped off, but I recon a little slightly soapy moisture will free it. It sticks using surface interaction rather than by anything glue like, so its just a case of being gentle and adding a lubricant.

good choice about insurance and screen protectors. About the case/pouch I would still wait and try to get by with the the one delieverd with the device because a new extended battery is announced to be available next month at some point. Once this is out, there will be new pouches/cases due to the extra size. Of course just if you want to keep the option of upgrading the battery ....

Case for the EVO??

I have been looking around for accessories for the EVO, I preordered mine already, but want to have a case and screen protector on it.
I don't want to take a chance with this thing.
I came across this website which has many skins, and rubberized cases, but am hesitant to order, because I did a search on google, and on another android forum website everyone was giving them bad review, like poor communication, 3+weeks for the item to ship.
Plus they don't use paypal.
If anyone knows a reliable place selling cases please post a link or PM me, and here is the link for anyone who may want to order, also if you have ordered let me know how it went.
thanks

Go on the left and click HTC Evo 4g, then choose cases and all the available ones are their.
Yeah I have been looking myself. It scares me to not have this stuff before I pick my phone up..Normally when I open a new phone there is some kind of plastic already on the screen. Its usually not to pretty but I'll have no choice but to leave it on till I get a screen protector.
Since I don't really see myself slapping this baby on the side of my pants I am trying to find some type of gel body glove or something so I can still put it in my pocket and not add too much bulk.

I have found only that one so far..
Only problem with that snap on case (which doesn't sound TOO bad) is that it wouldn't ship out until June 21st, 17 days after the Evo comes out... That's 17 days worth of heavy phone usage to get through without a scratch!!!

I like the ghost armor one
Apparently I am lost! Does anyone have any info on actual cases? People keep talking about freakin screen protectors! Am I in the wrong topic?
I've clear skinned my last 3 phones (Mogul, Touch Pro, Nexus 1). IMO, it's the best way to protect your phone and still have the "naked" look. Why add bulk and/or hide these beauties with a case? I've dropped each one of them atleast once without ever getting a scratch.
I personally feel a screen protector isnt needed. I got bubbles on the N1 screen protector due to poor installation on my part, so I removed it and haven't looked back since. These screens are very durable and hard to scratch if you use common sense.
The key to a good skin install is follow the instructions and take your time.

Yes, what we are talking about are protective skins. They are clear cases that go on your phone and protect it without adding all the bulk that comes with a big hard case

thank you for clarifying that..i honestly thought everyone was talking about screen protectors..
zagg's product is a screen protector AND has something that fits se seamlessly around the rest of your phone. It is sort of grippy (a little) so it doesn't slip into your pocket extremely easily, but they are nice -not great with a stylus though, b/c, like i said, a bit grippy.
this product was originally designed for military helicopters to cover their blade tips to prevent damage. pretty heavy duty stuff...you barely see it on there, but if you drop your phone, it primarily will keep it scratch free -spotless really. only problem is, it barely protects against impact like other bigger cases might. But its nearly impossible to scratch, nic or chip your phone.
2 things I'm looking for, and hopefully they do it right this time. A sedio front facing belt clip for the evo and an extended battery. what they've ****ed up in the past is making one not compat with the other....
I really want the extended battery experience while at the same time having it being able to snap into my belt like I'm someone god damn important =P
lol that's all I got.

ZAGG Screen Protector Woes

So I just picked up a ZAGG screen protector (the HD one I think it is called, with more of a glass effect/feel). Put it on an hour ago and after letting it sit turned the phone on to notice that it is too skinny for the screen. There is a nice little gap on BOTH sides (I got it on pretty damn even). Anyone else have this problem with a ZAGG screen protector? If this is the case with all of them I'm going to have to just get a refund, because it would be pointless if they send me a replacement with the exact same cut.
Also, what other screen protectors are you guys using/would you recommend if I do indeed need to switch and can't get a protector with a proper cut (without gap on both sides of the screen, it gets really noticeable and annoying on any light colored apps or backrounds).
Thanks for any help.
I had the same problem with the zagg HD. You will have to get the zagg original shield in order to cover the entire screen, but this protector has more of an orange peel effect.

Buy Skinomi, I've never had a problem with cut and/or orange peel effect and have had them on several different phones

Been using Tech Armor on all my devices since finding them. They are dry/static apply rather than the wet rubbery ones like Zagg. They do eventually get scratched/marked up, but you do get a 3 pack as well as a no questions asked life time replacement (all you need to do is email them with your order #, no shipping cost, no sending anything back)
Same issue with the bad cut. Going to contact them and ask for a refund. I thought I could live with it, but I can't. Going to order one of the screen protectors from Motorola's website as people have posted they cover the full face very well.
Went ahead and ordered up a Skinomi, like recommended above, yesterday. Alos shot ZAGG an email to see what they have to say about things (told them if they still haven't fixed the cut I would either need a refund or regular replacement, whichever winds up being easier, since I never mind having an extra protector laying around).
I'm I the only person that just buys like 10x screen protectors for like 5 bucks off eBay? Sure feels like it lately :what:

I used to do that back in the day.. on my blackberrys and stuff.. It works since if one gets messed up then you can just easily replace it.
But these $10+ ones are significantly better.. they stick on better, don't get the annoying bubbles as much, and might be smoother or clearer. Some of them claim to provide better protection as well but not sure how true that really is. They are also "reusable" if you wash them, but don't know anyone who actually has reused one.
I tried Xtreme Guard for my nexus 4 because it was like 85% off and i got it for the same price as the cheap ebay ones, ( ~ $1) its much better IMO. I've had it for a year on my nexus and its still on. I used the back one on it too cause it was glass on the back and could get scratched, it also helps with the grip cause its not slippery. The other cool thing is it has some self healing technology stuff that actually works, like the screen protector itself is less prone to getting scratched. And mine got some scratches that disappeared, so I guess it actually works. I was happy with it so I just got the same for my moto x., the quality is comparable to those expensive ones but price is closer to the cheap ones, when you use the discount code. Cost me like $1.50 shipped for a front and back one.

I tried this and they told me they are cut this way for a reason and wouldn't honor a refund. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did.

They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. All you have to do is go to your online account and click refund. You get an RMA number to include with your return. I didn't even have someone contact me asking why I wanted to return.

Are they cut to cover the entire screen? How is the feel on the screen?
Response from ZAGG:
Thank you for contacting ZAGG and iFrogz, where we are Zealous About Great Gadgets! My name is Brittany, and I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
In regards to your email, I would like to thank you for your preference in ZAGG and our products. Looking at your order, it does appear that you purchased the Case-Friendly version of the invisibleSHIELD. Additionally the Motorola Moto X (High Definition) only comes in a Case Friendly option, which as you have found is cut shorter around the perimeter to avoid issues with a case or bumper you might have on your phone. If you are interested in the standard edge-to-edge, you are more than welcome to switch through the warranty process online at no additional cost. Keep in mind that switching to the standard edge-to-edge also means you will be switching from the High Definition to the Original invisibleSHIELD. I hope this clears up any confusion!
Does that not seem like BS to anyone else? Makeshift excuse so they don't have to redo the current batch of HD protectors?
So why would they make one protecor case friendly and the other not? So the regular protector must not work AT ALL with cases then, right??
So no other company must make a protector that works with a case AND protects the entire screen???
RIIIIGHT
Anyone else get a different response from support when contacting them? Seems kind of ridiculous, especially considering there is no mention made on the product page about this smaller cut and case friendly design, not until you email support about it that is. If that was actually the case, wouldn't they advertise this up front before people purchase one? Riiight. Well I will wait for my skinomi, apply it, and then email them back about their so called "case friendly" design,

Same response on the phone...somewhat absurd product design. I don't think the product is thick enough to bother any case...certainly not a case that has any flexibility. I was given the same offer...free exchange. Well, the old screen protector is less expensive so a trade is "huh?"...and I have to ship the new one that doesn't fit back to them. That's a pretty poor customer retention policy and one that's sure to get comments on the internet in forums where people read about their products (e.g. here)....especially since they don't describe what "case friendly" means on their web site (or in the stock blurb they give to resellers.
My first and last Zagg purchase.....

I'm not sure what's not to understand. They chose to make one type of protector case-friendly (so that the case won't push up the edges of the protector). They chose to make the other type of protector edge to edge. Those are apparently the two options.
When I go to their website and go to the Moto X High Definition page, it shows a checked "case friendly" under screen coverage options. I've been around smartphones and smartphone forums long enough to understand what that means. If someone didn't understand what that meant, they could contact support.
They make case friendly protectors that aren't edge to edge because a lot of cases fit very snugly on the device and the lip of the case will push up the screen protector. A lot of people put cases on their phones, and they'd rather cut the edges back than have to deal with people calling in to get replacement screen protectors because they got pushed up.

I understand just fine what that means, and I never expected edge to edge. But if you have seen one you would know there is EXCESSIVE gap, I mean, I don't know any case that covers up the edges of the ACTUAL DISPLAY on both sides. The short cut on top and bottom make it case friendly, and not going all the way to the very edge on the sides would also. There is gap between my case and the edge of the screen, then double that gap between the edge of the screen and the protector. It would be pretty poor designing by the case manufacturer that would warrant such a short side to side cut on the HD protector.
I don't think anyone is confused about what "case friendly" means, but in this case it appears to be just poor R&D.

I didn't realize you meant the protector didn't cover the actual viewable display all the way, I thought you were saying it didn't cover edge to edge on the bezels. Yeah, I can see where you're frustrated now. That's excessively case friendly!
