I have tryed WM player , Nero Mobile , TCPMP , Pocket TV ,and cant seem to find one that plays most files , any suggestions ?
with the codecs TCPMP play pretty much all i've thrown at it
The CorePlayer in its current version 1.1.1 is definitely the best (legal!) player:
Audio: MP3, AAC, MKA, WMA, WAV, OGG, Speex, WAVPACK, FLAC, AMR, ADPCM, ALaw, MuLaw, and Midi
Video: H.264 (AVC), MKV, MPEG-1, MPEG-4 part 2 (ASP), DivX, XviD, WMV, MJPEG
Containers: Matroska, TS, PS, 3GPP, MOV, AVI, MPEG-4, NSV
And besides this you can stream(!) MP4/AVC-videocasts.

why are there "illegal" ones?
I wasn't aware that there were illegal players - CorePlayer is not Free - and it is therfore illegal to use without purchasing it - if that's what you meant?

No, I mean the use of codecs is restricted. For example you have to pay licenses for the H.264 codec. So it's simply impossible to get a legal freeware player supporting H.264. If you find one, then it's obviously illegal.

Yes, I think so. But I didn't try it, because I don't have a bluetooth headphone.
A little help
After a lot of searching I found two players that play my videos, Nero Mobile & Core Player but there is a problem. They play video well but for some reason I get no audio. When the Core player is running it gives me an Error "Player: Audio Codec (AC-3) not supported by the player!" is there a work around or solution to this? Any suggestions will do.

I think I played a video with the Core player, and used my A2DP headset; but I think it stuck after a few seconds since the CPU-usage is so high with a A2DP headset that it would probably require a super overclocked Trinity with liquid nitrogen cooling hehe!

I just can say that I have lots of videos with AC-3 coded audio (in fact most of existing videocasts are) and they all play fine with CorePlayer. I don't know, what is the problem in your case. Do you have the latest version (1.1.1)? As a buyer of the software you could post a detailed description of the problem in the official support forum:

Hi, there are some posts that have tips to help with playback using TCMP, but I myself quickly got irritated with it and installed the latest PocketTV, watched a few of my mpeg's with it and it plays them good, you might check it out.

This is a known incompatibility issue with all Hermes devices and betaboy from Corecodec will be looking into it, when they get hold of a hermes device. Pocket TV as mentioned in the above post, only supports ATI Imageon 3200 device chipsets, the Hermes has a different one (still unknown which one), that is not yet yet supported under TCPMP. Additionally, the Hermes ATI decoder only hardware supports MP4 playback, but you should be able to get non-scrambled screen and semi-acceptable playback in Rawframebuffer mode. For ATI hardware accelleration on the hermes try encoding MP4 video clips and playing back in WMP10 until TCPMP issue is resolved. Excellent playback and not jittering in playback, forward/rewind or in pause and resume.

I dunno about all the chipset junk, but pockettv plays em very nicely, and I don't have to reencode all my videos(what a waste of time) or deal with semi acceptable playback.

PocketTV supports: MPEG-1/MPEG..........that's it!
TCPMP supports:
Video: MPEG-1, MPEG, MPEG-4, DivX, XviD, AVC/H.264, Theora, MKV, Dirac, OGM, WMV
Audio: MP3, AAC, AC3, OGG, Shoutcast support, MKA, MPC, Speex, FLAC, AMR, u-law, Wav
Pictures: JPG, PNG, TIFF, MJPEG
Multimedia: COSP, SVG
....but if all you want to do is playback MPEGs (which still have to be encoded at a resolution and bit-rate PocketTV can support - even if you haven't had to do it!), then stick with whatever you're happy with.
However most people who are used to having the freedom of using various formats as is supported by TCPMP, will undoubtedly miss the many adjustable settings that also come with the player, hence posts in this particular thread for those who are trying to achieve the type of flawless device/software compatibility most of us have been accustomed to in the past with TCPMP.
Have you ever even tried TCPMP? Have you even considered that AVI file formats & codecs dramatically reduce filesize compared to MPEG, with substantially better quality? There are many different factors why we all use different software and usually the same common denominator why most choose to use the same software i.e .....it's the best out there!!
Even the name of the software you advocate is non-sensical....PocketTV??!! Where is the TV part of the application? Anyway nuff said. For those who know what I'm talking about, my forementioned posts already stated that Betaboy and the Corecodec development team are looking into the compatibility issue regarding the Hermes. Meanwhile my suggestion was, in the interim, to encode new vids to MP4 if you desire DVD quality on your PPC but that you can, for now ONLY,.....get acceptable playback using Rawframebuffer mode, still giving you more format options than the useless PocketTV. :lol:
yep, just turn off the ati and use rawframe buffer option in the tcpmp video options.

Don't think you can add codec to the WMP10, but I could be mistaken. As far as I know, it won't support any derivatives of the MPEG4 family only 'original' mp4 as in i-Pod mp4, hence the reason why I use 'ImTOO DVD to iPod Converter 4' and 'ImTOO iPod Movie Converter'. They work perfectly for me for the meantime, but I will be switching back to Divx and Xvid once the Coreplayer 1.0 Mobile CE has been released. You just can't beat their filesizes over quality. MP4's look every bit as good as the best AVI's, but the difference in size is anything from 200-300 megs of extra space!

It's an avi file with WMA audio codec I want to play.
TCPMP comes up with the message that the audio codec (Windows Media Audio) isn't there, so the picture is fine, but no audio.
I'm not sure if the plugin exists, but if one has it, please share. Thnx.

Right.... and how am I going to use any of that content in conjunction with TCPMP?
TCPMP does not support the WMA codec, presumably because of the licensing costs that would have to be paid to Microsoft.
Get yourself some video conversion software, and convert it to something that will play on TCPMP.

No, it doesn't
Coreplayer DOES. Coreplayer plays the files that TCPMP doesn't due to the missing WMA audio codec/plugin.
Since Coreplayer does include the desired plugin (I don't want to use Coreplayer due to performance issues) I was wondering why there isn't just a .plg plugin file for this WMA audio codec.
The solution you give regarding ffmpeg, what exactly is that? Will that work with TCPMP?

If I understand it correctly, ffmpeg is used by tcpmp/core as one of the decoders.
If corecodec have soley moved their attention across to the core player, then I think you'll be out of luck for tcpmp as they will need to build in the work of ffmpeg into the software.

I've installed divx player mobile. When I play a movie file I do'nt have any sound, just the picture. The audio codec is
mpeg 1 or 2 Audio layer 3 (mp3)
channels: 2
sample rate: 48.000 Hz
Bitrate 124 kbps
Is this audio codec not supported? Is there a way to install different codecs? Is there a better video player for divx/xvid files?

I have the coreplayer, and when I try to play the .avi file it gives me an error box saying that it needs an AC-3 codec wich is not supported by the player(the same happens in DivX). Is there a way to download the codec, or do you guys recommend another player?

I'm a bit disappointed with the mplayer. I have several clips which I could play with the Toshiba Mediaplayer and these did not work very well in the mplayer.
I should mention that the clips were 720p and 1080p, but when played with the Toshiba Mediaplayer (which use hardware acceleration) the Folio plays them without breaking any sweat.
I think we have to wait for a video player that use the Tegra 2 hardware instead of using the CPU to decode mkv.
Yes, I did some testing myself and I was disappointed with the quality. Normal SD AVIs from web were pixelized. There was no antialias or smoothing. The pixels of video were just magnified.
Rockplayer with HW support produced much better output.
Maybe for some formats not supported with rockplayer. Lets hope that in some future release it would be better. I didn't make any changes into config file maybe if I applied some filters, the result would be different.

Did you use a usb disk to play the clips from or did you try from a UPnP server? I am asking because I haven't been able to play any mkv from wifi connection with clips on my nas as the toshiba player always crashes

It's not possible to play mkv-files with the Toshiba Mediaplayer.
The clips I played are either in MOV or MP4-format.

I haven't managed to get any player to play HD x264 mkv's properly. Mostly they don't even start or are just really choppy. Some have options for HW/SW decoding, but still nothing.
Tested so far (latest versions): Vitalplayer, Vplayer, Yxplayer, Rockplayer, Act1 player, Default gallery, ES file manager movie player.
Any suggestions? Running Foliomod 1.3d

No not at the moment, but there are a few which in time could be intresting.
CorePlayer is one that I think will be able to play MKV, this due to the fact that they have their own codecs which are very effective and they use the hardware better. But its awfully quiet in the CoreCodec Forum.
They showed of their Android CorePlayer at CES in January.
Another one is the Video Player for the LG Optimus 2x which should support playing MKV in 1080p using the Tegra hardware. The problem here is to port the application to our Folio which has not been that successful. But this is something that could change over time.
More and more manufacturers are using the Tegra platform so I think it's just a matter of time before we se MKV support i several of them and perhaps they could be ported to our Folio.
As mentioned before you could use the MOV format and play video in 1080p without any problem using the Toshiba Media Player or the video player which comes with the Gallery.
But you would probably need to convert your video-files to the Mov format and that is one thing that I for one find a bit tedious.

Using FolioMod 1.4 and the Toshiba Media Player I can play MKV (720p, [email protected]) with almost the right speed. So there must be room for other improvements.
I really don't want to transcode every episode of all series.
Don't have any problems with quick rewrite to another container format (mp4, m4v), because this is fast and I need to get rid of AC3 in favor of ACC, otherwise no sound

When I play 720p.BluRay.X264 mkv file on my Galaxy S2 there is no sound. I tried the integrated player, mVideoPlayer and MoboPlayer. The sound track on MoboPlayer is shown as 1:6CH, 48000Hz. Do I need any audio codec to play the video with sound or there is nothing I can do to whatch theese files on my new Galaxy S2? Thanks for your answers in advance.

Unfortunately it is a trial version and not free. Do you know free player that will play the audio?
Check if it has DTS audio, the S2 has some trouble playing DTS audio. You should probably convert the audio to AAC or get video files that don't use DTS.
Yep, its probably DTS audio, in which case Diceplayer is what you need. Its well worth the price I think.

Most likely the audio-stream is encoded with DTS, which isn´t supported by the Galaxy S II.
It can play AAC, MP3 or AC3.
Do I need any audio codec to play the video with sound or there is nothing I can do to whatch theese files on my new Galaxy S2? Thanks for your answers in advance.

You can´t install any media-codecs on Android, like you can do it in Windows.
Obviously mediaplayers can bring their own decoders, but this means decoding on the CPU, which is slow and eats much more battery-power.
So it is best to encode the audio-stream in one of the supported formats

You mean video and audio is not synchronous?
That´s because, it plays video and audio separately. Basically the Player uses the media-framework to play the video without sound, so it can use the DSP.
Then it plays the sound separately, using a built in software-decoder.
This most likely also means reading the file twice, although some caching maybe prevents the need to actually read it twice from the permanent storage.
So it is a quite inefficient way to play the video. The player doesn´t know the internal timings of the media-framework, so it doesn´t really know when to play the audio. But most players should allow to set a custom audio-delay.
It is also possible that there simply isn´t enough CPU-power left to do the decoding in software.

could you post your movie file info? and what is the diceplayer's version?
There are some known problems to play HD MKVs.
1. 24bit Flac Audio is not supported
2. microsd card class ( transfer rate ) issue.
3. Wrong MKV time stamp issue.

i think that lag is not sync problem.
