Help with charmer

Hi,
I seem to have made my MDA compact II a brick. I was having problems hard reseting it (Format FAT failed) so I tried upgrading to a different firmware.
I now have the RUU_Prophet_2151327_21513121_021921_DOP_ASIA_WWE_Ship-NoVendorID
firmware on it. This is not good as it is for the Prophet, although it says in the Wiki that this should work. Anyway I can now hard reset the phone, so all I need to do is flash the TmobileUK firmware back on it. The only problem is that it doesn;t let me do it. It says error:296 upgrade only.
Anyone any ideas?

extract the contents of the t mobile package using win rar
download
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Prophet/Tools/ROMUpdateUtility-NoVendorID.zip
and put in the same directory and run.

It gets to 1% then says invalid command, not for this phone.

very stable, much better than the original shipped ROM

Finally got it back.
If you have a T-mobile MDA II (Charmer), then Flash it with a Prophet ROM, the only way I could get it back was to use the following:
RUU_Charmer_100_100_049_CHS_Ship.rar
typho5 -x nk.nbf
Then created a new nk.nbf with the output using nb2nbf.
I then Flashed this with Wizard_RomUpgradeUtility_noID
And miracle it started. I quickly CID unlocked it and am now flashing with latest T-mobile.
My problem was that the Rom Update programs wouldn;t read version 2.xx ROMS.
Anyway it has just finished and looks fine. Thanks for everyones help, now I just have to get my SD wifi card working.

Hi I just got a MDA compact II from T Mobile UK I would like to upgade the ROM but its all very new to me since you know what you are doing can you post an idiots guide to the process.

Hi, it depends what Rom you want to upgrade it to, the latest one from T-mobile is pretty good. There is an unbranded one (no T-mobile logos or suchlike) or there are Roms in different languages. It depends why you want to change the firmware and what to.

I suppose I don't really know the problem is as I just got the thing did some searching and came across this site read your post and thought i want to do this maybe you have some suggestion. Also I tried the RUU mentioned in an earlier post but it I can't update when I get to the from/to screen it tells me I will go from 2.6.2.110 to 2.6.2.110 I was expecting to move up.

Sounds like you are running the latest version. Is there a problem with the phone? If the phone works fine, I would just unlock it using lokiwiz02b (So you can use any network card) and then EnableRapi (So you can run unsigned code) then CID unlock it using awizard (so you can use any Brand/Language of ROM).
If you have no problem with the firmware I would leave it alone.

Yep, I'm in the same situation, why does the prophet firmware load onto the charmer without erroring? !!!
Anyway, I have a copy of RUU.rar but I'm having problems working out what I need to do to it between unpacking and flashing the phone (i.e. the typho5 bit and then the nb2nbf).
Can someone please help me out?
P.S. The phone just sits at a black screen that says 'Dopod' across the front at the moment

Can anyone tell me how to 'force' a downgrade of firmware? I've got what appears to be the right firmware from FTP but it won't over write the incorrect version 2 installation as the uploader software thinks it's later therefore better.
There has got to be a better option from the command line surely?

Progress, but now it works only from the charger so the shipped ROM upgrade won't work as it reports the battery as being at less than 50%.
Anyone know how to force a ROM upgrade or where I can find the right ROM files to use awizard to do this?

Dutch to english ROM

Hey guys,
Im another newbie, but who is actually scared of screwing up the phone. I have the Tmobile MDA compact III obviously, and the information page looks like this:
ROM version 1.13.114.1 NLD
ExtRom version 1.13.114.101
Model nr ARTE 110
CPU OMAP850
Im not so sure what this information tells you people who are knowledgable about this, however can I safely use the customised powermap file from this website's ftp (ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Artemis/Customized_ROMs/) to change the phone to english?
What are the procedures EXACTLY please, and what problems should I expect.
Another thing, what is CID lock, and how can I see if mine is or not?
I checked most of the threads, so I am knowledgable about this issue a bit, however because none of the topics were specifically about the Dutch version I wanted to make sure. Thank you a lot for your help...

1. you have to CID unlock your phone. only real solution is imei-check website, and that will cost you $40. this will prevent MANY of the problems with installing ROMs
2. don't do updating on Vista PC, use XP or older
3. follow on screen instructions of your chosen ROM update utility. don't panic if it takes too long and looks like the update process has "freezed". make yourself a coffee and let it finish installing.
4. enjoy!
PS... i strongly suggest you read as much as you can on this forum before doing any upgrading.... then you'll know what to expect.... and of course, don't forget that only YOU are responsible for anything that happens to your device, good or bad... good luck!

thanks for the post, I appreciate it. However is the exe file I mentioned (customised power map) the right one? i know there are a few options to chose from, like the 3 options of the pdamobiz.com website. While im not too clear of the main differences, the general concensus on the forum is that the powermap is preferred, and has a lot of nice things. Is there a better one? perhaps on a different ftp. Maybe if you have one you can send it to me.
Another thing, if it dont work, or works and I dont like it, can I get back to my original ROM, the dutch one from the tmobile dutch file on the ftp site as well?

1. Personally, I use PDAmobiz Lite version. Powermap version has a map of Thailand which I don't need. "A lot of nice things" for my purpose is a lot of unnecessary stuff. If I need something I can install it myself into RAM or storage card. You have to choose the version which suits you best.
2. Everything is on this server. You have to register to log in http://www.wm-gurus.com/registration/signup.php
3. I went back and forth with different ROMs (versions, languages, etc.) without any problem until I found more or less what I want. Please note, my device is CID unlocked by imei-chek.

Urgent Help
I tried the powermap version of the ftp. This is exactly what I did:
I connected the phone and established contact through activesync, then I started the exe file. The DOS windows opened, and then it started initialiying, and the process started. It said that it will take 15-30 mintues, and the process has started. So far im sure everypone is familiar with those. However, I waited about 35-40 minutes, and still nothing different on either screens. The DOS window said however that if nothing starts I should reset the process. I tried but didnt work. At that time I tried to reset the phone and now it is stuck in the startup screen. All I see on it is the IPL/OS data, and it is not moving further.
Please help, what do I do now?

So this is what I did so far....
1. Flashed with PDAMobiz_Dopod_P800W_AKU301_v1.1.2_PowerMap.exe (with device on Today screen)
2. The process started and stuck on "uploading file [don't remember] and as the instruction said I reseted the phone after 30 minutes.
3. All there is on is T-Mobile splash screen, version infos and that's it.
5. Tried to flash again in bootloader mode but the device was not visible by PC
How do I go from here? Maybe I need to flash the original rom version of the phone. I have the dutch tmobile mda compaxt III, but with the dutch ROM version on the ftp of this site is scary, because there are too many files and have no clue which one to flash.
Any suggestions?

There is no Dutch T-Mobile ROM available yet.
You could try the English T-Mobile ROM (art_tmouk_11311001_024990_wwe_ship.exe), which is available on this site: http://www.wm-gurus.com/registration/signup.php
There's a chance this ROM will work on your Dutch T-Mobile phone, if the signature is correct (I assume your phone is still CID locked).

CID unlocking isn't possible if your phone isn't working.
If you don't have your original rom, you have to contact your provider to repair it.

try from bootloader screen
Hi I also did as u did but with a hards reset in the beginning.And it worked fine.read somewhere that if u dnt do a hard reset you could get into problems.If u can try to go to bootloader screen and try to flash from ther.

flashing from the bootloader screen gives me an error, the file cannot recognize that a phone is connected to the PC. that is the biggest problem I think.
DO you know how to flash the Tmobile NL version on the ftp. there is one that I dont know how to use

Go into the bootloader and, use mtty to connect to the phone (remember to disable ActiveSync through USB) and then issue the command info 2.

I've finish all the readings, what I mean is my phone is 3G Australian DOPOD, I used SSPL and flash it to a chinese ROM and When I tried to flash it back to the English version, while it flashing, something gone wrong and I was in the recovery process. The program on my PC said recovery is completed and ask me to re flash the ROM again, and I did.
But the program said invalid vendor ID. So at the moment no matter what ROMs I've tried, no luck.
also, because I can't boot into the phone, my phone doesn't have connection to the PC and I can't flash anything at all. Any idea how to fix this?

May be Bricked

Hi,
I bought an herald not blocked to any operator, i tried to upgrade it
to WM6 but it crash during te update (don't know why).
I tried to re-flashed it with RUU_Herald_HTC_WWE_1.8.405.1_02.71.90_Ship.exe
but i got an invalid vendor id something like message.
I try to find a no vendor id with no success.
Please Help!!

There are VERY much posts of people who are havig the same prob's. And yes there is a good possibility that your device is bricked. BUT wich ROM was installed on yur device? you could try these two ROM's first before messing around!

first to to is putting your device in bootloader mode: HOLD Camera and then press soft reset once. then connect to pc via USB, then run the RUU and follow the steps. good luck

I already tried both of these roms and even more, even roms from other
models but always with the same error: INVALID VENDER ID
I think the solutions will be:
-Right or NoVendorId Rom. (Like for the prophet)
-Mtty trick but with right Commands and values
-SD Boot trick via HERAIMG.nbh well signed.
Please someone to help us

You could flash back no problem by flashing back to original shipped ROM......problem is though you need to find out which ROM came with your phone, then you need to get your hands on it.

Help Stuck in Bootloader

Can anyone help?
I'm stuck in Bootloader SPL 1.1.
I've tried hard and soft reset but it just comes back to Bootloader (Red, Green, Blue and white screen).
Can re flash as it's not being recognised and just timesout.
On the screen it say's
ATHE100
IPL-v2.02
ATHE100
SPL-v1.10. RP00
Would trying to flash from SD card help, don't have a miniSD card so not tried.
Not sure how it got to this state as I purchased it from eBay as is.

Tried flashing the stock firmware
Athena_WM6_TMUK_2.35.110.4
But get error Invalid Vendor ID
All other ROM's and upgrades that I've tried just timeout.
Any help or pointers appreciated.

If your casing is black you may need to use these original roms
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Athena/Shipped_Complete_Updates
once you have loaded a rom ,you have to unlock to accept non native roms.
Please read the wiki and how to guides in the athena wm6 forum

The box says it should be WM 6.

i think the reply to task32 means it is not unlocked and i believe you should be able to flash a TMUK rom based on your description of the case.
Go basic and make sure you removed the sim and sd card
Use an XP machine and try a different cable.
You could try to find a TMUK wm5 rom
Flashing from sd card also removes some potential problems.
If all else fails you could try messaging cmonex who is a whiz in these situations

Thanks for the help.
I've tried 2 PC's both XP and different cables still same issue.
Any idea where I could get TMUK WM5 tried looking but can't find, it's probably the only ROM I've not tried.
I've sent a message to cmonex so hopefully he will be able to help.
I've tried the TMUK WM6 and it at least starts to flash 1% then gets Invalid Vendor ID. All other ROM's just fail to communicate.

Model ID
I believe I have a corrupt or Invalid Model ID which is preventing and ROM from being flashed.
Does anybody know the mtty commands or can help me.

I saw your multiple posts.
please don't ask the same question in 5 different threads.
The first thing to be clear about is what hardware do you have
x7500/x7501 is different to X7510
Which one do you have?
To apply any of the special ROMs you need to be unlocked and when you entered bootloader you should have seen either
athe100
IPL-v1.00
athe100
SPL-v1.20 Olipro
0r
Athe
IPL-v1.00
Athe
SPL-v3.50 Olipro
if you have an x7510 the numbers would have been different with Athe400(designating a different hardware)
If the SPL was 1.0x then you weren't unlocked and I don't think anyone knows how to fix your phone from here.
If you know what your original software is you could try flashing from bootloader.
if you don't understand the terms I have used, I suggest you read up the stickys and wiki before asking anything else as any solution will be quite complex.
Have a think and a read before doing anything else
