reboot problems - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Haven't noticed- but has anyone else reported reboot problems?
I find that sometimes i have to do several (soft) reboots before it will allow either the hardware keyboard or the software keyboard to function at the enter password stage. Alternatively if i wait for what seems like an eternity the option might or might not appear. It seems as though the machine is busy trying to do something else.
my machine is branded as the Ameo. I did contact HTC via email but they told me to go to t-mob....
I also notice that when i am using media player and turn the backlight off using the button on the side rather than the light button on the h/w keyboard the unit locks up. i only use the media plyer because my sony bt headset is unable to control any of the 3rd party players that i have tried.
Has anyone got a newer rom that has resolved this problem- don't care too much if i lose the t-mob branding cab files.
thanks in a advance
daryl

Didn't find that kind trouble with my dopod u1000

I got my wizard :)

It does feel alot more chunky than the jam - but it is fast and a non-xscale version of skype is preloaded. I'm just setting the device up now.
Paul
How did you get it? is out already?
Yep, sent out from expansys yesterday.
is it as big as the PDA2K?
Never had a PDA2k. Its roughly the same height and width as the jam but feels alot bulky, however it seems to fit in my jacket pocket just fine.
The device is nice and fast, although writing to the persistant storage is a little slow.
The build quality seems alot better then the jam, no rattles
Also voice dialling over bluetooth works just fine, the audio now gets routed through the BT headset and BT mic.
It's nowhere near the size of the pda2k! I received mine today as well, as you said alot chunkier than the jam but it's still small. Very tidy looking, just hope the sliding keyboard holds out!!
the audio now gets routed through the BT headset and BT mic
Psneddon,
Does music also work over bluetooth headset? I've always wanted this to work on the Jam, but didn't.
Ken
HI psneddon,
are there any PDF user menu come with your NEW K-Jam ??? would you upload it for us, Thanks
If file size is less than 25Mb try
http://www.mytempdir.com/
Thanks a lot
Found the manual here :-
http://www.clubimate.com.nyud.net:8090/support/KJAM/MANUALS/MNL/050905_K-JAM_manual_english.pdf
The device actually comes with a nice printed manual.
The answer to the music over bluetooth is sort of yes and no. If I have the device paired etc and play media player the music comes from the speakers, however if I press the headset and it lauches the voicedial app the music comes out the headset. It switches back once the voicedial application stops though
Paul
I notice, it swith automatic to landscape mode, if you slide the keyboard open.
But if you want to go in landscape without opening the keyboard, there isn't an icon on the right where you can tap on for switchin screen. If you want to switch screen without opening keyboard, you need to go thru the menus to change it.
Anybody know how to bypass this?
thnx
I've found my device to be a little unstable and a little buggy. Sometimes it just resets itself. Although the weird thing is sometimes when it soft resets its self it comes back and the radio gsm part of the phone survives the reset (its on and got a signal before I've even put in my device password)
psneddon,
The music over bluetooth sounds like it has improved over the Jam, I'm sure someone will come up with a fix for that, however I have heard that the A2DP profile update is coming out for the K-Jam, which would allow us to use stereo bluetooth headsets!!!
What is your overall opinion of the K-Jam? Coming from the Jam, with 128meg upgrade, what do you think about the memory? I heard something about when programs are loaded in persistent memory, the response is very slow. Have you seen this?
What is the overall response of the unit?
What is the battery life like compared to the Jam?
Thanks,
Ken
Yea ive got a 128mb Jam and would like to know the above Q
Thanks
Does the K-Jam come with a voice dial app like the Universal? If so, what program is it?
I have the Apache (basically the CDMA version of the Wizard) but it doesn't come with voice dialing software and even after installing MS Voice Command it cannot be activated via BT headset.
However, when pressing the button on the headset, the audio does come through the headset speaker indefinitely.
Dan
I'll mainly list the negative points... Heres a very unstructured review.
The device seems slightly slower than the jam, sometimes its really quick - other times it crawls along. One reason for this could be that WM5 seems to never close a program - when my device slows to a crawl i usually check the memory manager and there are like 15 programs running!
It is a little to thick for my liking and I'm not using the keyboard as much as I though I would. When I go back to holding my Jam it seems sooo thin and light.
When I install pocket plus 3 and soft reset my device freezes and i have to hard reset which is a pain - even tried installing it without any other software installed.
The side and top buttons on the device (e.g. power, camera) are all now recessed into the unit, which is good for stopping accidental presses but sometimes its hard to feel where the buttons actually are and its hard to know if your actually pressing them when you try.
The build quality is very good - better then the jam. However getting the miniSD out is a bit of a struggle - it seems to be sticking on something.
When you use the camera you can ONLY use it landscape - which is a pain.
Wm5 does seem a bit buggy here and there and yesterday my device was soft resetting itself every few hours although after a hard reset it is not doing it anymore (must have been a software problem).
Having all the storage space for apps/file and all the memory for running programs is how it should have always been.
Battery life is great compared to the jam, however if you have wifi on it does eat the battery a bit.
The wifi works no problem with my belkin router - no problems at all. Only think is that if you suspend the device (or it time out) the wifi gets turned off (thus saving battery) but you have to manually re-enable it. Would be good if it would automatically re-enable when you un-suspend the device.
The bt headset works much better then the jam. You can change a registry key to change the program that gets loaded when you press the headset button. Also the problem with the audio getting left open when you use ms voice command is fixed as you simply press the headset button again to close the audio (however its hard to tell that my headset it active in a noisy enviroment.
I remember when I first got my Jam, it had LOADS of bugs with the inital rom that were fixed in the next rom. I suspect it will be the same with the k-jam.
Another nice feature is that you can press and hold the "comm manger" button on the left side of the device and this switches the device between "sound on" and "vibrate" modes.
The keyboard it quite good although the backlight doesnt really light the alt-keys (each key has two uses).
There is now a little batter meter on the bottom of the screen which again makes it feel more like a phone
Overall the k-jam is a nice evolution of the jam - the speed is a good compromise between processing speed and battery. On the whole I would rather have a slightly slower device and a greatly improved battery.
I only wish it didnt feel so chunky - if you could detatch the keyboard and leave it at home - now that would be fantastic
Paul
Also putting the stylus under the device towards the back is a pain. I would have been much better if it had been left in the same location as the jam
A few other things...
You can now turn the device completely off just like the smartphone (hold down the power button for 4 secs)
You can cancel the device customisation when you hard reset the device by simply pressing cancel on the ext rom setup screen. However most of the software included is built right into the rom and the cab files simply contain shortcuts and reg entries
Thanks psneddon for the update,
That was a very good update you just gave. I want to know what programs you have installed and how much memory is left on the device?
How much is in program, storage and flash rom?
Do you install your programs in flash rom or what?
It sounds like this device is a little larger than the Jam, do you think this was a good upgrade considering all of the new features available on the device?
psneddon, bottom line: will you prefer it from your JAM (if JAM had WM5)?
The device has about 50mb storage space and it seems to have 50meg fo user ram (according to the device info). With just activesync running I have 30mb of memory free and 29mb in use. But going by the way Wm5 manages memory I wouldnt say that data is very meaningfull.
I install some stuff like today plugins in the storage memory but most of the stuff on miniSD card since its faster.
Since the storage/memory is now seperated I dont really think we have to worry anymore about what we install to main storage 50MB is enought in my view.
One good thing is that when you install software via activesync or by cab file the install process is much better - the device now asks where you want to install the software - activesync doesnt prompt you for any information.
Overall I really think that for being one of the first WM5 devices out it is stable enough - it should be rock solid after a few updates.
My only REAL gripe about WM5 is that I was really looking forward to the new "one handed operation" of the device - which is mostly very good - just like the smartphone. except that for programs that use the "ok" button in the top corner you still seem to need to tap the screen. Saying that there is an "ok" button on the keyboard

can't enable wifi at all and other flakiness - 8125

Okay so I think I know at least A solution but I'm hoping that someone here will be able to suggest something besides a hard reset.
I've got a Cingular 8125 a couple of weeks ago. Flashed it to the latest imate rom. I kept it from installing the custom imate stuff but did install some of the Cingular cabs.
Now I'm having a few problems with the phone. It's quite a list.
A) I can't enable wifi at all. At one point I could but the phone locked up on me while I was trying to resetup my connection. I had no choice but to soft reset it. Now I can't enable wifi at all. If I click on it in the comm manager to turn it on it will sit there with the spinning wheel like it's enabling then go back to the same icon with the x on it. I've tried turning flight mode on and off, etc but nothing seems to help it.
B) the phone HAS been locking up. It will just sort of freeze and stop responding. Sometimes I'm able to get to the memory settings in control panel and still have available memory (it's usually been around 16 MB of program memory when this has occured) but even so closing everything will often not help. Even if it unfreezes then it will usually do so not much later and often it just won't unfreeze.
C) sometimes I can't close out the phone application. This seems to happen when Magic Button is running. I click to close it and it goes from the phone to my call history. Closing that goes back to the phone again. I can't get to the Today screen. Pressing the red hangup button would sometimes fix it but usually not.
D) voice command is REALLY wonky using my BT headset (Scala 500). Okay, I know it doesn't officially work with BT headsets and I could live with that. But why does it have to be so damned random?
1) Sometimes pressing the button once will get me the chime. Usually it just gets me a lower pitched tone. If the first press doesn't get it then typically a second within a short time will. Sometimes it takes three though.
2) At one point the phone would usually play my selected ringtone and announce the incoming call over the headset. Other times I would only get the default incoming call sound on the headset and the phone and voice command announcement are over the phone speakers instead. In the last couple of days I've ONLY been getting them from the phone.
3) While typically when I'm using the headset with voice command the feedback DOES come over the headset, sometimes it gives me the confirmations from the phone instead
I think there were a few other flaky issues too but this is the majority of them. Also many of them were present before the rom upgrade so I don't think it's responsible for most of it.
edit: oh, one other thing is that after the ROM upgrade I can't get the default input to stay on anything but keyboard. Even if I change it, I turn around and it's back to keyboard again. I'm thinking, though, that there's a reghack for this?
*bump*

I have the same problem with you. Can anybody help?
any solutions i have the same problem
Try this: back up your PIM, then flash phone back to OEM ROM (cingular, t-mobile, whatever it is for your model). Then unlock it again (if needed), and flash the ROM again. If it's still garbage, try reading the thread for the ROM you loaded (chances are you're not the first to experience this problem, and the other testers of that ROM may offer solutions). If it's still garbage after all that, consider using a different ROM altogether. CRacing's CR86 Touch HD and SVI's ANGEL are both quite nice, and VERY reliable for functionality.

Power management problems/disillusions

I have my P3600 since Saturday and I updated it with the latest ROM which included the GPS.
Now I’m having problems with the power settings and functionality. I search all the threads for solutions but no similar problems are described so I post a new thread.
Problem 1:
The power settings are: backlight off after 30 sec. power off after 1 min. (on battery power). After 30 sec. the backlight dims to the lowest setting but the device does not switch off after 1 min (or any time for that matter). This is a huge drain on the battery! I can switch off the device with the power button but once it turns on again (e.g. while receiving an SMS or email) it stays on with the dimmed backlight.
Problem 2:
Using a Bluetooth headset and the media player the player pauses when switched of with the power button. This means just listening to music for around an hour and the battery is completely flat. My previous device was a S200 and that worked fine (could be switched off with the power button).
My guess is that both problems may have simple solutions so I’m asking you all to help me with this.
Thanks in advance,
Stefan

Well for problem 2 you haven't searched enough! Anyway you should not use the power button; go to the Windows Media player settings and map the "Toggle screen" function to a hardware button. Then toggle the screen off when you play music.
Regarding your other problem: what software have you installed? Have you got this problem on a freshly upgraded phone?
The solution you propose for problem 2 probably works for other devices but not for the Trinity. You can only assign buttons up, down, left, right and enter and they are needed within the player for obvious functions.
Problem 1 after fresh ROM update but right after that I installed TomTom 6.
I might try a new ROM update and check but rather as last resort...

It works for the Trinity too. You can also assign other functions to buttons if you keep them pressed. Toggle screen is assigned to "Hold Down" in my case. So if I press down once I decrease the volume, if I keep pressed I toggle the screen.
As to your first problem; i'm having the same problem too...
To narrow it down a bit; my device turns off (to standby) just like it should when i just briefly check the time or something and then put it away with the todayscreen on (so with no aplications running except some today-plugins ofcourse). However; it DOESN'T go back to sleep when the system has given any sort of notification, like a missed call or a received text-message or reminder for a calendar-item.
So my best guess is that it has something to do with the databases notification que (where WM2003/CE 4 had the problem of overflowing this notification que).
It's really anonying the hell out of me too, cause it really drains the battery fast if you don't discover it soon enough...
As for problem 2; map the screen-toggle to pressing the silver 'enter'button.....that workd great for me. By the way; i'm tinking about getting the new wired media remote control HTC is releasing shortly (check this link). I wonder if these buttons will be mappable.....
Edit: just as i posted this, i received a text message and this time it nicely turned back to standby (ie turned of) state when i didn't check it right away. I did however soft-reset last night before going to sleep. So i really do think it must be in the notification que somewhere, as PocketPlus will still clear that everytime i soft reset. Anyone having the same problem exactly as described ?
Well I found my phone again on after I received an SMS and this made me decide to completely reinstall the original ROM (including the GPS).
Step by step I installed all the applications (and tested the device in between: I started some programs and got some notification).
So far the result is that it all works fine now.
The difference might be the different ROM (from smartmobility.nl in stead of europe.htc.com although the version is exactly the same).
For problem 2: I unmapped the button 1 (was speed dial and moved that one to press&hold). In media player I mapped the button to ‘toggle screen’. I still like the S200 for this better because it only kept the media player & Bluetooth alive so that’s the best for preserving the battery…

Hmmmm....i do the screen-toggle everytime i use it as a musicplayer, and i get considerable good batterylife....
However, i'm not using the BT headset anymore cause the volume was too dim...i'm using the 3,5mm adapterplug now. But batterylife with bluetooth was about the same when i used it.
After all the work yesterday, this morning the problem with not going to standby occured again!
But now I know more. It happened only after I added some sites to my RSS feedreader.
I use pRSSreader from David Andrs (http://pda.jasnapaka.com/prssr/)
Using the 'update settings' with 'automatically connect' the program tries to create a notification on the today screen if new messages arive.
This notification process is the problem. If I switch it of and soft-reset, the device works fine again.
I will mention this problem to David Andrs...
I hope this will help you as well.

Tool to keep display OFF!

My phone is always waking up for odd reasons (AVRCP commands, switching in and out of roaming, etc...), and I can't seem to get the darned thing to stay OFF.
Music A2DP streaming is the biggest deal to me, because not only will the device wake up when I press a remote command (on my AVRCP headset), it will also keep the device backlight on indefinitely. This is clearly shortening my battery.
I tried Slide2Unlock, and have it set to shut off the display if no activity for 5 sec., but the problem is that Slide2Unlock appears to not notice when it is woken up, and just sits there without turning the screen back off again! (a simple screen press brings Slide2U back to life, and then it will toggle the screen... but this defeats the purpose!)
There must be SOMETHING I'm missing here... doesn't anyone else have this problem???
I have 2 things for you. The first, is if you're using WM6 that's a known issue and unchecking the today timeout in start-->settings-->today-->items tab should solve most of your problems. The second is a little program that I found (not sure where at , but it might have been on here) called screen off. Install it and then set it to a hardware button and it will allow you to turn just your screen off whenever you don't need it on.
Maybe it depends on the player you're using? With Coreplayer, my phone's screen just flashes on and off quickly when it receives an AVRCP command.
Still doesn't explain the roaming thing though.

Yes, I'm using WM6 on a HTC Titan (Sprint Mogul).
I don't currently timeout to the today screen, but I don't see how that would cause my problem really- I've heard people mention that before, so can anyone explain what difference that would make?
I already have a shortcut to screen toggle (wrote my own MortScript to do it). That's not a problem anyway since every media player can assign a button to toggle the screen- The problem is that it keeps turning the screen back on when a button is pressed no matter how many times I toggle!!
Plastriq, I've heard that coreplayer does that... that's how they deal with this problem. They're the only ones that have addressed it as far as I know, and I'm not about to pay for their app when I already have TCPMP and WMP for free.
I just can't believe that there haven't been more practical ways around this yet!

Hardware Buttons w/Pocketmusic

Hi people,
I searched the forums and I couldn't find anything related to this.
When I try to remap my hardware buttons while using Pocketmusic, there's no reaction whatsoever, buttons are not being reassigned, they just do their normal action, even while on the Reassign buttons screen.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Ricky.
same problem here
Which version of Pocket Music? I have 3.6 but you don't mention which version you have.
I know, digging up this post but same thing happens to me using the latest version of PM (although on a different ppc, universal).
When booting up in safe mode though (through spb plus), h/w buttons work ok... try this first and if it works for you on safe mode as well, that means there's probably a conflict with another app.
BTW I noticed that in my case, when I use the D-pad on Pocket Music today item (when selected) h/w buttons work! So the problem lies on the program itself (when it's running full screen maybe?)
I've found the solution! On my HTC Kaiser the hardware buttons didn't work with PocketMusic 5.3.1 demo because of S2U2 I was using. I turned it off and the hardware buttons worked perfectly. But then your device is unlocked when a call comes in.
The real solution: Open the S2U2 Settings and switch ON "Don't use Keyboard Hook". That's it. Enjoy
