Cingular stores here in the US will do this for you for free. Just take them your old phone and your new phone and they will move stuff across (so that might be an easy solution if your provider will do similar).
Outside of that, you could maybe use PIMBackup (I haven't looked at the format of the file directly but I thought it was just a CSV type file) and then use a similar tool to import to your new phone.
Another option would be to get a copy of a SyncML program for your PPC device and use that to sync to a free SyncML server. Nokia phones have this built in so you could then use the new phone to pull down the contacts from that server. (Do a google search for free SyncML servers. there used to be a few. You can search here in this forum as I've posted some examples a few months ago).

But there should be a way to copy the contacts on my qtek to my simcard in teh qtek and then import my contacts to the n95 by inserting my simcard in my n95.
Greetings

I'd like to do the same.
Kind of.
I have over 100 numbers on my SIM but I only use like 30. So I want to delete all the ones I have on there and sync my contacts that I have on my phone to my SIM.

Does the N95 sync with Outlook on your PC?
If so, sync all your contacts to your PC, then sync them back to your N95 maybe??

Copy phone contacts from Nokia

Hi all. I have an Artemis. I want to copy my phone contacts from Nokia E50 to it. I tried from nokia to send all contacts at once via bluetooth, but nothing. If i send contacts one by one, it works. The problem is that i have 600 contacts and probably i'll get old moving them one by one. Is there an automatic procedure?
There is no way to send all contacts between these models via Bluetooth. Problem lies in VCF (virtual card file) format. I'm not very familiar with all standards but VCF consists of all details of only one contact. Function "Send all contacts" puts all separate contacts into one file and sends it. It is not the same as sending each contact separately. As far as I know only SonyEricsson models support multiple contacts in one file (it didn't work with Nokia 9300). The way I used many times is to synchronise two phones via Outlook.
Install http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_PC_Suite then either use bluetooth or a usb cable to sync your nokia contacts from you phone to outlook. Then use http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activesync to sync outlook to your htc. Be careful with the order, or you will delete all your contacts. (something else, I found my "General" type numbers vanished, so change them on the nokia to "Work" numbers)
Its Easy Syncronise It With Ur Computer Using Outlook And Than Syncronise Ur Nokia With Ur Pc U Can Copy Contact From Out Look To Any Device Nokia Sony Ericcson Or Xda Mda Pdas Thats Why They Hav An Option Of Syncronising U Can Do Using Bluetooth All Of My Mobiles R Uptodate As Soon As I Enter My Room They Syncronisewith My Pc And Update The Contacts N Calender
copy contacts from your old phone to your new phone
Hi,
I had a similar problem, how do I copy my contacts from my old Sony Ericsson T610 to my Nokia ?
I did not have a sync cable for my Sony Ericsson T610, I tried to send the contacts from my T610 to the Nokia via Bluetooth and IR and was able to only send individual contacts. The "send all" option on the T610 failed miserably and wasted my time (both over Bluetooth and IR)
I got fed up. Finally I figured out a way to do it with zyb , its a nifty website with SyncML (there are others as well but this worked for me)
(the Artemis is supported by zyb so that should work as well)
http://www.unwiredconnect.com/gprssyncml.htm
Steps I used
***************
Synchronize your contacts from the old phone ( Sony Ericsson T610 ) to zyb.com
( You will need a WAP profile from your operator to do the Sync , so keep that handy, Or you can do it over the WLAN if your phone has WLAN, I had to use a WAP profile for the T610)
then change the SIM card to the new Nokia phone ( Nokia E61i)
then add a new phone in zyb.com (i.e. Add the Nokia E61i)
Synchronize on the Nokia E61i ( you will need the WAP profile again from your service provider or WLAN again)
Now all your contacts have been transferred from your T610 to your Nokia.
Viola !
I also deleted my zyb account after the contacts were copied to my E61i , paranoid I guess. You could continue with zyb for their core service (contacts backup and restore), but zyb is mutating to yet another facebook and thats not a good sign.
I had a full addressbook on my T610 (510 contacts) so it took some time.
Note: It will not copy the pictures attached to the contacts and complain that the sync failed. Ignore the failure and go to zyb to check if all contacts are there. It will copy the additional fields in a contact though.
Additional Note: You will have to use the merge feature on zyb if you copy more than once but thats a simple step.
Congratulations on your new phone
Data charges will apply when you use the WAP profile but I think I spent 3 NOK or 50 us cents or 40 pence or 60 euro cents and that was money well spent (this was the first and only time I actually paid for data traffic to an operator)
Note to the cheapos (like me): You can use zyb or any syncml service over WLAN on the Nokia E61i, so you need to use the data plan only for the upload from the T610 to zyb. You should be able to use WLAN over the Artemis as well but you need to check.
Good luck !
NOkia to windows mobile 6
right - I wasted a whole day on this, so don't want others doing the same. Outlook didn't work for me, so I had to find a workaround.
First, download net qin mobile guard onto your nokia phone.
Use that software(M guard), and click on back-up. Back up to your SD card.
THen..... take the .vcf file, and import it into google contacts (you'll have to set up a google account for this)
Then read the stuff online about how to sync your windows mobile with google.
et voila!

Backup symbian contacts and restore to windows mobile device

Hello,
Is it possible to transfer contacts and sms text messages from a symbian device (nokia 6600) to a windows mobile device? (Htc Trinity)
I found enough programs to do it, but all of them are for symbian OR windows mobile, but not both...
Anyone has an idea?
Regards,
Donald.
I know what you mean, dont suppose the Nokia can be made to output data that can be read by Outlook? In which case dump the lot to outlook, then dump it back to the Trinity, et voila.
Otherwise see if it can be saved in some form of common standard... PLain text, CSV etc.
Sorry not much help otherwise
Use Nokia PC Suite to sync the Nokia phone to Outlook, then Active Sync to do Outlook to the Trinity.
Or save the contacts to the SIM on the Nokia, then import from the SIM on the Trinity.
I'll try that
Thanks, i'll try that, but i don't know if outlook can read the sms text messages from the phone, we will see...
Thanks for the tips,
Regards,
Donald.
Importing SMS into WinMob is not straight forward.
But you will very probably have to start by finding a Symbian app that can export to CSV (a generic spreadsheet type format).
FYI, Yahoo Mail is quite good at converting formats!
V
or..... Bluetooth.....? MInd if you have alot to shift might take some time, but it's worth a punt?
Hi there,
have you checkt Smart GSM for windows mobile? That let's you sync your Nokia with the Trinity. For me it work very well with my old 8910!!! (I'am on WM6)
I'll gonna check smartgsm, if it works i'll let you know...
Thanx for all the suggestions.
SmartGSM
SmartGSM didn't work, it just won't connect to my nokia 6600 (symbian based phone) neither through infrared or bluetooth...
Let's search for an app that can import sms text messages and export it to a format windows mobile can read...
Any idea? anybody?

Migrating From P990

Friends,
I have bought a Jasjam, now the problem is can any one tell me how do i transfer my sms's frm my p990 to jasjam i have over 1000 saved sms's please help me out.
Is p990 bluetooth or ir capable? If so, Use that.... Cheers....
friend,
that isnt doing any good , i have to transfer my sms's also. how can i do that?
Have a search on the net for a tool to do this. I used something 2 years ago when I was making the same journey; problem is I don't recall the name of the tool.
If you take your time and do some intelligent searching of the net you will find a tool that will convert your sms to text files, allowing you to save them to a PC. You can then upload them into the new phone as text files and access them as yo wish.
WB
Thanks for your help. I will definitly try this
i have another problem also , when i transfer my contacts to outlook and then to my HTC 8525 i get something like :-
P990 Contact Name : John Sr.
HTC 8525 : SR. John
its mixing the first and last name, is there any tool present which i can use to make is back to normal , because if there isnt i have to do it one by one and i have nearly 1048 contacts present in my phone.
Again, if I remember correctly, you can state which way you want your names filed within Outlook; either surname then initials or vice versa.
You can also do this on the PPC itself within Contacts; however might be best to align them all within Outlook first then synchronise.

Possible to import messages from old phone?

Hey,
is it possible to import sms/text-messages from my old nokia phone to the Touch HD? I've managed to import the contacts from the old phone to outlook, but can't find a way to do the same with the text messages.
I would be greatful for any help!
Regards,
Bacardi Man
I used a program called EASY HELPER on my xda2i to transfer text and contacts between two similar handsets. Worked ok, ALTHOUGH text only backs up INBOX. sent, drafts etc... are populated but by empty files you have to just delete anyway.
If easy helper is supported in 6.1 then it might work for you, don't forget to search for other 3rd party sms backup and restore programs which could be equally helpful.

Well on the Nokia side you could give the new NCC 2.0 beta http://www.nokia.com/A41013626 a try, but I think even 1.0 in the latest current Phone Suite could export SMS. My N95 is currently with Nokia, so I cannot test it for you (Export function w/o phone is greyed out). Re-Importing a common export file format back into WinMobile should not be a great deal.
I have exporter all Contacts and messages from my Nokia phone using Nokia PC suite. All this data now is stored in one single *.nbu file.
So you mean there is a program, which can extract the messages from this file and transfer them to an WM6.1 based PDA?
Can PC Suite only export nbu file format? Doubt any other program can read that. No option there to choose csv or text format at least?

Ok, let me think about it:
you may be able to send your text messages from the nokia phone vie bluetooth to your HD (if your Nokia supports sending more messages than one at a time, that would be the easyest way )
every phone and it software stores text messages in a different format and way. so normaly, its not possible to load those on another phone. some programs can store and save those messages as text files. but on the other hand, you would not be able to get those text files on your HD stored as real sms again. so the best thing would be bluetooth. just send those messages over and ypur HD will get them and know that its an sms (did the same with my contacts, just sended them via bluetooth )
My colleague says NCC can in fact export to csv format. From that format it should be possible to import into WinMobile. If only I would remember if this WM5 software HTC SMSBackup in this old post of mine http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1053322&postcount=2 can import csv? If you wanna give it a try, install for WinMobile 6.x as a cab is different now:
1. Change the ".zip" extension to ".rar"
2. extract 00CAB300.001
3. rename to "00CAB300.001.exe"
4. copy to phone and use
simple answer: use pimbackup - i moved everything from my trinity. you can find it by searching on XDA, it is simply perfect.

Does it also work for SE devices such as the W800i?
Monsieur zucchel, the topic here is syncing Nokia to WinMobile No simple answer yet

Hi Lucas, my apologies. i thought it was a windows mobile device....
Bienvenue, PIMBackup is indeed a fine WinMobile solution.
But is there also a solution to port contacts from sony Ericcson devices to the HD?
Asking that cos I own a W800i.
Well, one nice feature of SE phones is the capability to copy all phone contacts to SIM card. Then you put the SIM in your other phone, and voila. Just a quick fix, a better way would be to export contacts to a export data file like .csv, and then import that one into WinMobile with the free PIMBackup http://www.dotfred.net/ Give the free http://www.fjsoft.at/en/ MyPhoneExplorer a try, it was always my favourite SE contacts and SMS sync software.
Really good news as I am already using MyPhoneExplorer.
Will give it a try on monday when the HD should arrive.
The problem with the SIM Card is that there is only a storage capacitiy for 150 numbers (not even contacts) so this option wont work for me.
The option of using bluetooth sounds really interesting. But how can I send a sms via Bluetooth. In the options menue of the messages menue there is no possibility to do that, altough both phones support bluetooth.
Since I still can't find an option to send my sms via bluetooth from one phone to the other, I tried exporting them into .csv format, which worked fine.
Now I have the problem that both, your program Lucas, and PPCPIMBackup don't recognize this format.
Any suggestions?
Studied the PIMBackup since I dont use it. Its backups are stored in a .pib file, which actually is just a .zip file which you can decompress. It will reveal a number of .csv files, for the different types of data in your Touch HD. I would then assume that you can copy the contacts from your Nokia .csv file into the PIMBackup .csv with contacts, using Excel which can read and write .csv. Do the same for SMS. Unfortunately not a one-click solution, but transfering PIM data over operating systems is still a pain - when it comes to SMS. Contacts of course can be transfered via Outlook, or a online account which both of your devices can access.
If you like to explore further, I think Jeyo Mobile Extender was a software that allowed you to put all your SMS into Outlook as messages, from where you could copy them. But I never got it to run fully under Outlook 2007, and development has stopped.
Good luck!
@lucas:
Your solution would be great, but in fact the pib-file does not contain many csv-files, instead it contains one single pbm-file, which can't be decompressed.
Well then, I am close to giving up . Did you use a .pib file that you filled with some life, i.e. at least one item (contact, sms) for each PIM menu item on your WinMobile device? An empty .pib file out of the box would certainly contain no csv's. If there is still only a pbm file after decompress then the PIMBackup programmer has not updated his manual.
Other than that, maybe someone else would like to step in... Time for a Bacardi I'd say...

You need PIM backup or MS MyPhone for contacts.
There is no Contacts folder.

you got them to your PC, how? Should be reverse to get to your new phone.
You can sync them through ms exchange and active sync, you can sync them through ms exchange and google, you can sync them through MS My Phone.
Perhaps you need to understand your device better as this is a basic transfer.

I know of no way to convert your .vcf files back to your device without outlook.
What I would suggest is to download program called My Phone, create an account and manually enter your contacts on the website, so for future use, you can sync through the program to any WM device.
Sorry I can't be of more assistance.
thx man
but if i installed office 2003
would i be able to do it?
and if yes please tell me how

You can import it with outlook by going to File\Import (I think) and select the file type vcf, or use a softrware like vCard Import/Export.
There are programs (BitPim) that can convert the vcf to delimited text, etc.
Also, I believe gmail can import a vcf file, then you can set up your google as an exchange server (Set up new mail with m.google.com as your server, domain can be anything you want.)
You must have all of your contacts in 1 vcf file. I believe there is a DOS command that can merge multiple vcf files but I don't remember what it is.
Hope this helps.
