Phone Problems - please help... - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Randomnly when I press the green phone button or select Phone from my Start menu, I do not get the keypad, instead I just get a black box on the screen. They keys are "on" the screen - ie I can dial a number by guessing where the keys should be displayed, but unfortunately this is no good!! Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem, sometimes I get nothing no phone pad, just the today screen. I did a soft reset and it works again try doing that and see what happens? Do you have any phone apps that might be confilcting with the OEM phone apps?

Yup, a soft reset fixes it. It occurs approx after 10times of using the phone (although I havent actually counted) after a soft reset

Which ROM's are you guys running? Is it Helmi's 1.1?

no, i am completely standard on a UK O2 Rom

using O2 standard ROM with radio 1.04.xx, I just got it though. So I'm still just trying to figure out the device before I start tweaking it. SuperCarl, I don't know what to tell you, I soft reset mine and all was fine. Do you have any dial-pad skins that you are using maybe?

soft reset alleviates the problem, but it recurs.
I am not using a dial pad skin (unless one is bundled with o2)

my phone pad wont load or work?

Hi I have noticed today
My text phone pad doesn't work? anyone know why this is? I had got used to it and now i cant get it loading!
What do i do?
This problem that you are experiencing with PhonePad is the same one we were experiencing with the Magician. The problem is that the SIP and the Today plugins share the some same resources. With a lot of Today Plugins (or an insulting one), you will not be able to change your SIP other than to Keyboard.
You can try disabling the Today Plugins one by one, trying to load the Phone Pad in between. That way you can find which is the insulting plug-in. Mine is the Resco Explorer plug-in. You can re-enable the insulting plugin once you load PhonePad and they will then work.#
Sometimes a soft reset and changing the SIP immediately after also solves the problem.
Dont know what the problem was but, its sorted.
without changing anything I just opened programs and tried to run the pad in there now it works well.
now just to try tomtom5 so far no one reported any problems a good thing!
OK it has gone again and it is not the today items and I have not installed anything yet,
any ideas what it could be or how i can track it?
Whats the phone pad anyway...
the pad is the like phone pad which comes up so you can enter text.
I have just reset the phone to factory standards and the pad works unit it starts to install stuff then it just stops.
I have removed all the stuff it will let me and still it wont work. I have to get this working...
Has no one else got this problem?
rom: 1.0.9.25wwe
OK this is odd I have removed all programs on the PPC and started nothing and it doesn't work, removed the sim and it does! OH! I need the sim.
oh and the JAMin runs much faster without the sim?? OK so as I do this I am performing a hard reset without the sim, the phone is clever its telling me there is no sim! "I know this!"
I am sure it is something to with a CAB file that installs when you first boot or after a hard reset. or it may be my sim? after all its working without my sim.
Ok hard reset done, without the sim it is working fine now time to put the sim in.............................................
OK its either the sim or the stupid text that tells me what area I am in. how do i turn the area notification off?
ok a way around it should you ever have this problem.
put the phone into flight mode and soft restart, with it still in flight mode load you sms or what ever and open the key pad, then turn off flight mode and you will see your key pad.
PS it will screw up after a soft reset so you will need to do the above again but a solution for the short term.
Must be your sim card...
My Jamin doesn't have this problem (Cingular)
Just traded Dopod 700 (Blue Angel) for the sleek and tiny Dopod 818 Pro. Keep hearing about this phonepad SIP, but don't seem to have one on my phone. I have the Traditional Chinese ROM, which is ok, but would love a phonepad... Any ideas what's up with it not being on the device?
Thanks,
Travis
Heya,
used to have this problem too until i read a solution from a thread here.
goto "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SIP" in registry
under "DefaulfIM"
Change this value to "{51A2CB38-154E-4C92-A625-A83871C99EC2}"
Thereafter everytime you soft reset, phonepad will load up automatically and it will function every time you need it to... hope this helps

FANTASTIC!! This worked great BUT i had to input it in lower case for it to work.

I cannot change to "phone pad" input method

Hi All,
I have got my Qtek9100 since yesterday. I already upgrade to ROM 1.6.7.1 WWE. Today I just tried to have some basic lessons on my PPC. When I tried to change to "phone pad" input mode from "Input Selector" arrow, I failed. My PPC just stays in "Keyboard" mode. I can change to any other input mode, but "phone pad".
Please help
Hello,
I have had this problem and still suffer with it on my JAMin, the fault with mine is the sim compatibility with the rom.
try and start your phone without the sim if it works then the next step it put your phone into flight mode and do a soft rest, once the phone has started then switch off flight mode.
it should work
I don't think the Phone SIP (Soft Input Panel, used to enter text) has anything to do with the phone part?
I'm having the same problem with the new leaked AKU 2 ROM. I can't use the phone pad, and also it takes like 20 seconds when I click on the arrow to change the keypad.
Any ideas?
I have just noticed that "phone pad" pull out appearance is more or less occasionally. For instance yesterday, after soft reset I have got phone pad. Today I didn’t have it in the begging, but after some activities it appears again. So I cannot tell what the case is after all. The good news is that I don’t use it at all, so it is more like curiosity that real problem. 8)
I dont know if anyone can verify this but I had Phone pad working fine after a hard reset a week or so back. After the hard reset I did the reg tweaks for Glyph and the other one 4096 or whatever. After that it takes forever for the menu to pop up and then phone pad dosent come up when selected. Anyone else apply these tweaks?
Funny I also ran into the same problem just last week. Phone pad don't show anymore, and menu takes a long time to pull up. I thought it was the software "CE Star" which I installed, but looks like it's happening to everybody.
Hopefully somebody will find a solution soon. This is annoying.
Same problem here. No ROM update here though. I've seen the phone pad application before though. I did a hard reset a while back for something I can't remember now, but ever since then....no phone pad.
I can choose all the other options, but the phone pad stays in keyboard...
Please someone find the solution, the phone pad is essential to a true "one-hand" operation...
same for me...
always stays on keyboard, going into text messages, virtual keyboard always comes up and i cant change it from the input in settings... it stays on keyboard and keeps popping up. i dont need it, i got a pullout keyboard in that qtek 9100!!!!! please anyone?
I've got the same problem with my Atom. Has anyone already found the solution?
What worked for me is using registry wizard to change default input method to phonepad and soft reset and phonepad will be available - I think it stays available if you reset back to keyboard as default. You can use pocket tweak to do the same thing

Big problem!!!

I have a huge problem with my MDA compact III. The problem is, I have to hardreset my device almost everyday. Thats because all of a sudden the device acts strange and won't open almost every program. When I softreset the device then, the device won't pick u a signal. In stead of showing how strong the signal is, it diplays a !. Also after the softreset sms, mms or my mailaccount is deleted. I have never spoken anyone with the same problem or anyone with a solution. I only have Windows Live Messenger installed, but many people have and none of them have my problem so that doesn't seeme to cause this problem. It's really annoying and it's getting worse by the day. Yesterday I had to reset my device 3 times(!).. If anyone knows this problem or more important, knows a sollution, please share it with me cause i'm close to driving my car over my MDA
Tom
Are you doing an actual hard reset where you hold the two soft keys on either side of the chome wheel, then hit the sunken button on the left side with your stylus while holding the two soft keys and then confirming with the green talk key? If so, sounds like a hardware problem.
No not using the softkeys. I always perform a hardreset in settings menu, i don't know how it's called in english but in dutch is called 'opslag wissen'. Sometimes I get an error saying cold boot could not be completed blabla and then i have to confirm to hardreset.
Tom
Sounds like you are using the 'clear storage' option. Try the actual hard reset procedure and see if that fixes things...thats how I do it.
I just performed a hardreset using the the softkeys. I hope this will make a difference and solves my problem. If not, my MDA gets his first swimminglesson and I'll contact my insurancecompany.
I'll let you know it worked out. Thanks for you're help

As far as I know, this 'opslag wissen' is the equivalent of a hard reset. So it should not make any difference, unfortunately.
no it didn't make a difference. had to be hardreset allready. going over to plan b, allready filling the bathtub.
If you do teach it to swim, however, please post pictures.

Can't access 'Settings'

I installed some software, a voice activation software, and now it crashes everytime i try to navigate to settings to remove the software. I have to reset it from the back everytime.
How can I sort this out
Sounds like time for a hard reset?

I'm fairly certain you are going to have to hard reset too. Sorry
i just suffered the same fate thanks to my MT4.
btw , if you have sktools, you can try the remove program from there too
How do I do a hard reset? Wasn't that only done through the settings option on the phone?
Hard reset means you return the Xperia to "out of the box" state ...you loose all data and programs
1. turn off the phone
2. Hold both right and left buttons (the hardware buttons that stick out a bit, right under the screen)
3. press power button, while still holding the others
4. follow on screen instructions (to press "R" to confirm reset, slide out and use the hardware keyboard)
thread
I had exactly the same problem this week.
I had bought the program and installed it successfully. However after installing it again after a hard reset, it did exactly as you describe, crashing when you try to access settings.
I think the version I had purchased was MSVoiceCommand_1.6.17913.CAB. There is a version getting around these forums (MSVC_US_PPC_1.6.19209.bengalih.CAB) which did the trick for me.
Hope this helps

I'm scared installing any other voice command now, I've reset the phone too many times.
IS this software even that good?
I had the same problem too
In lieu of installing a 3rd party software (eg sktools, memmaid, etc) you could try uninstalling it via active sync. Or maybe remove it from the startup programs then soft reset.

camera broken after a hard reset?

the next morning i go to take a picture and the phone just sits there with the driving logo spinning. soft reset and head off to work. once at work i try to take another photo. this is where all hell breaks loose on my phone. it would drive and drive. hit the soft reset and then it would hang up on the green windows 6.1 screen, and just sit there. i was able to get it to go to the today screen once, but not again. so i decided to hard reset it. gets all loaded up, dial *228 to reprogram it and now i can atleast make phone calls again. but the camera still doesnt work. if i try to open the camera it will drive, and when the power save kicks in and turns off the screen i have to soft reset it to get it to come on again.
anyone got any ideas?
this was after i installed the newest version of s2u2, version 2.02 i think, and pcm keybord as well.
