Hi there,
Yesterday I bought the MDA Vario and all is working fine, except for the Wi-Fi functionality.
At home I am using a WEP ecnrypted, non-DHCP and MAC-filtered wireless connection, which works fine on all computers, laptops and my HP iPAQ.
The Vario seems to be the first having trouble.
After (I think) appropriate configuration, the Vario keeps trying connecting with my network (the moving arrows alongside the antenna icon) until forever.
This is my configuration:
I first checked up my Vario's MAC address (WiFi settings - Advanced tab) and added it in my wireless configuration.
When I setup my Vario for use with my network, it actually finds my accesspoint and asks me to enter the WEP-code.
But, I also need to setup (Network Cards) the Vario's IP, Subnet and DNS addresses in the "Network Adaptors Configuration" screen.
The only thing is, which one should I take for this?
The ones that are available are:

At first I thought it would be the last one, but when I configure the adresses in there, there is no connection to be found.

I have to say I didn't let the Vario install the stuff from the Extended Rom, by soft resetting immediately once the "first device setup" was completed.
May I be missing something from the Extended Rom that causes this problem??

Try going to settings > connections > wireless lan > power mode and setting to best performance.

Hmm, i had a few problems with my wireless lan at home.
Firstly i couldn't get the device to connect over WEP if i entered the passkey in ASCII - i have to enter the HEX version on my mini-s to get it to work.
As for the IP settings you should use the SDIO WLAN wireless adaptor i "think" but i've tried to set all my options to a different IP and my networks DHCP just takes control anyway so i cant test for sure without disabling my dhcp server (fraid i wont be doing that - dont want to have to manually set everything)
Ok, well... it works now.
I don't know how, but suddenly the "moving arrows" stayed "steady" and there was a connection with my WLAN network. Don't know why it took so long, but okay...
Anyway, I think the WLAN antenna inside the Wizard is not of a too good quality. Comparing to my HP iPAQ hx4700, the Wizard needs noticeable more time to connect with the network and isn't as sensitive as the iPAQ's.
The iPAQ keeps a good and stable connection everywhere in and outside my house, where the Wizard loses it at some spots.
the WIFI state is connected. but when I try to open a webpage, eg,www.google.com, it shows error: the page cannot be found. Check the name and try again. anyone knows that? how can I fix it?

Where are you using the wifi? Is it your home network or work/hotspot?
Go to settings then the connections tab then tap the "wireless lan" icon. Tell us what you see on that screen, then click the advanced tab and tell us what is there too. Finally click "menu" then "network cards" and tell us what is there (should be a list of available networks).
The only problem I have with my wireless is that i need to have a very strong signal to be able to receive my IP address via DHCP. Once it has it then it's OK and i can wander about but I get no address when the signal is weak ( less than 50%).

Check that you have set the connection type to "internet" - I suspect this problem occurs because you have it set to "work".

I am having the same problem , my signal is nearly 100%, the phone is set to internet, Belkin 54g,, authentication is 'open', WEP, the key was entered manually (26 digits ), do i use 802.1 access ?
mode is infrastructure, tx rate is auto, channel 11,, the mac and ip address is correct,, what is enroll ?
I have tried everything and it is obviously connected so why will it not load pages ?
Had the same problem myself with my XDA IIs. Only solution I could find was to turn disable the firewall on my router. No idea why that worked, and cant find a way to turn the firewall on without causing the problem again, but it did work!
got smilar problem here, some times even when i connected and browsed web say 2 mins. ago suddenly connection can not be established i have tried it with belkin 54g linksys and 3com routers all same couldnt find any solution and accepted it as it is

Bought the XDA mini S from 02 yesterday and havent really been playing with it except installing programs, removing the 02 files and finding my way round the phone.
Anyway, having problem with getting WIFI, can anyone help?
At home, I use Wanadoo broadbrand wireless 'livebox' and here are the following details on the Mini S:
Wireless Lan> main tab> SSID - blank, mode - infrastruture, BSSID -blank, Tx rate - auto, channel - 0
Advanced tab > status, not connected to network, MAC - 00-09-2D-8D-66-BF, IP - 0.0.0.0
network cards tab> wireless tab - wanadoo - 2D9E available
network adaptors> network card connects to 'The internet'

Might be a stupid question but.....
Have you got any security on your wireless router? if so have you permitted the MAC code of your device to connect and obtain an IP address from your router?

Thanks for the prompt reply. Another stupid question is how do I find out if I have security on my wireless router and if i have security, how can i permit the mac code to do its stuff.

Have you set up a WEP security key to prevent unauthorised access to your ADSL Connection? if not then you should; I think the 'LiveBox' has a default key which you have to enter to connect and obtain an IP address.
Not being familiar with this router, I cannot tell you exactly but I would expect you to have to permit a new MAC code under the 'associated devices' menu.

First of all, thanks for the link. I am able to see all the details (technical) of my livebox on the wanadoo configuration page.
There is a WEP key set and having tried to enter as much info on the relevant places on the mini s, no luck.
The mini s does recognise the 'livebox' and connects to it then drops off. However, it doesnt pick up any info from the 'box' to complete the relevant wireless tabs on the mini s.
Dont know how I'm going to resolve this but thanks for your help so far.
Shame not to utilise the Mini S with my current wireless broadband connnection.

the settings depend to some extent on whether you have an access point (router) or shared connection.
You need to know the network name SSID, (and whether it's hidden)
WEP, WPA/PSK key,
Whether (as previously stated) you have MAC address control enabled in your router
Whether you have DHCP enabled (for automatic IP address from router)
Whether you need to log on (enroll) to password protected shares.
In the mini-S wifi>Menu>Network Cards>Network Adapters tab you should set your network card to connect to The Internet and check that the adapter (SDIO WLAN etc.) is set to use auto IP (if you have DHCP) or pick your own IP address if you have a fixed range.
If you have Zone Alarm or another firewall (I surely hope so :wink make sure that the (mini-S) IP address is in the trusted zone
Lastly; if you seem to be connected but you can't get any web pages - just a page not found error, try killing bloody ActiveSync on the mini-S, sometimes when I'm browsing I suddenly can't access pages and that's what the problem turns out to be - when you stop active sync running in the background it all starts to work again.
This is assuming you have a router not a shared connection which may be slightly different.
Oh....and read the threads about 802.11b and g, if your router only allows 11g the mini-S doesn't connect (I'd find the threads and point you to them but I gotta get back to work soz)

I gotta agree with the activesync thing. I had the same problem as of 2 mins ago just tried exiting active sync and would ya believe it my wi fi now works. So i gotta say cheers mate!

I had the same problem with my Linksys WRT54G before. I upgraded the firmware (dowloaded from Linksys website) of my WRT54G and the problem solved.
New to the board (Just got my Cingular 8125) Having the same problem.
I get an IP addressfrom my router, it shows I am connected on my network settings, but still can't pull up any pages. It has never worked since I got it (only 3 days though) Someone please help us.
If >Connection Manager>Settings>WiFi Settings shows you have an IP address and are connected (Advanced :Status) then check your firewall settings and try stopping ActiveSync, always seems to do the trick for me

I have shut down my zone alarm and don't have firewall enabled on my linksys WRV54G. ActivesSync is also closed. Still no luck
I will try to update my ROM it is not far fetched that cingular Jerry rigged the WiFi. I hope ther is a class action suit coming soon.

Hello... Got a Touch recently, and doing research found this forum. One of the best findings lately for me: already flashed the phone with a WM6.1 ROM and updated my radio successfully. But I have a problem (even before the flashing):
I can't connect to my wifi. I have a belkin N router. Have tested almost everything: updated the router's ROM, updated the phone's radio, turned off security, assigned manual IP's, etc, but with no success... so I'm running out of ideas. I can connect to another people's wifi's tho.
Anything I have missed? Just an incompatibility? (which means I'm screwed)

I tried to connect my Touch to my old netgear 802.11b router at home without any success. I did a lot of "googling" on the subject, and only found that many concluded that it wasn't possible to do so.
Also, I have AT&T, and they are offering free hotspot WIFI connectivity to their customers (which is intended for laptops). My touch detects the WIFI signals, but I have yet to find out how to make a connection.
It seems like there should be a way to do it somehow though!

pl, when you go into your Settings -> Connections -> Wi-Fi, can you see your wireless network being detected?
The only things that spring to mind at the moment, are the basics for normal connection ...
1. Network type (B/G/N)
2. Authentication (password)
3. MAC Filtering
Here's what I would do ...
1. Reset router (usually has default button at the back).
2. Set it up for DHCP (sometimes cures a lot of problems).
3. Set simple WEP with password.
4. Obviously a network name (make sure it is not hidden, also make sure AP is enabled)
5. Set channel
6. Set mode (Network type) to mixed.
7. Save and reboot.
8. Soft reset Touch
9. Go to Settings -> Connections -> Wireless LAN
10. Activate Wireless and see if your SSID (network name) pops up. From here you can see signal quality and IP (to make sure you got it from DHCP).
Give it a shot and let us know what happens.

Strange, I have never had problems with mine (had it connected to a couple AP's already). In fact, it's easier than connecting my laptop to a WLAN.
You have anything else that can connect to your Router? pc or something.
My Touch can connect to other routers, and I have 2 PCs at home which connect to my Belkin N router, I just can't connect my Touch to it.

Please follow the steps given below to update the firmware and configure the router:
We recommend that you update the firmware from a computer that is connected to the router with an ethernet cable.
Please download the latest firmware on the router from the link given below. Download the file "3.01.29":

and save it to the computer.
- To update the firmware, log on to the router`s web interface by typing in http://192.168.2.1 in the address bar of the browser. The computer should be
connected to the router with an ethernet cable.

- By default, the password is blank. Click the "Submit" button.
- Click on "Firmware Upgrade" under the option "Utilities".
- Click on “Browse” and select the bin file that you have downloaded.

4. If the internet connection is stable on the computers using the router?
5. If the HTC Touch detects and connects to other networks in the neighborhood?

That really is strange. The way I see it, WLAN is a standard. It's like BT, any headset should work with any BT phone, as would any wireless device work with any wireless device
Maybe force the router to only broadcast in G (or even B) and see what happens? (I know, I'm reaching now )

Same problem here, N1 Vision router and XDA Orbit, both running on latest firmware. Wrote to Belkin support describing the issue. Here's their reply:

To resolve this issue we suggest you to open ports on router.

-Please open the Internet Explorer and in the address bar type in "192.168.2.1" and Enter.
-Leave the password blank and click on "submit".
-Click on "Virtual server" under the "Firewall".
-Enter the port number under "Inbound port" & "private port".
-Enter the IP address of this computer under the "Private IP address".
-Check the "Enable" box and click on "Apply changes".

I just got my Touch Diamond from Sprint and am having the same issue. I have a Belkin N+ Router that is in g/b/n wireless setting.
The phone just simply will not see the SSID even if you put the settings in there manually. What it does see however is the guest SSID my router emits and connected to it without any issues. The guest account is a feature of my router gives friends access to the web but denies access to internal network.
Out of curiosity changed my routers wireless bands to only G/B and all of a sudden my phone can see the network. Unfortunately for me I rely on the N part of my network to connect my laptops and do streaming HD so leaving it on G/B is not acceptable.
I just connect via the guest account, anyways its not like my phone would have been able to see the internal home network anyways.

I have the same issue.
Used to use a D_Link G router, but recently upgraded to a belkin N-draft one.
My laptop connects on G, and my desktop on N, so I can't switch N off and just use G.
Anyone found a solution yet? It's bugging the hell out of me!
I posted a fix on page one that should work. You have to update your firmware.
Did u all using any encryption security?
128bit WEP - touch have a problem of connection

have you enabled easypairing, (WiFi easypairing : Enabled) if so turn it off or press the required button sequence on the router to connect.

I have a brand new HTC Touch Diamond 2, on O2 network - this is an untouched device, all i have done is booted it up and sync'd it with my PC,
I have tried to connect the device to to wireless networks now with no luck.
1. My home connection - security enabled WPA-PSK password protected, The phone can see the network, i type in my network key - i also checked the password on my router setup. The little spinning circle comes up and try's to connect with no luck. It will then keep trying for as long as the wireless is on
2. Home connection again with no encription - again the same thing
3. Work connection WEP secured, type in the key, same thing again.
Has anyone encountered these sorts of problems before in the past - if so how do i fix it so i can connect wirelessly.

Doubt if this is an issue with the phone more likely to be a setup of the wireless.
What router do you use?
Do you have MAC Filtering enabled?
Do you use your router as a DHCP server?
Are there any error messages displayed on the phone?
When it doesnt connect and you tap the notification area (top bar to the right of START) do you have any messages there?

I too had problems with WIFI. My home work network was visible but it would immediately drop or not be able to connect. A few days later it started working flawlessly and I have no idea what changed.
I am sure you have tried a soft reset but just in case...

I have a NetGear DG(Some Number) v4 ADSL wireless router, which i have set up and works for all of my other devices (ie. Laptops, PS3). With a simple encription key.
I get no messages etc, all it sais is that its 'not connected' and there are no new notificatons
It then persists in trying to connect again and again, when it cant connect for a while, it then comes up with 'new network connections found' in the notificatins area.
I have switched the power mode to best performance with no luck.
I have tried on 2 different networks now. including with all encription off. WEP and WPA-PSK - This is driving me nutz cuz i love the phone, i just want to use it to browse the web without paying out the nose for it.
DHCP server is dynamic from my ISP.
I have contacted HTC now about the issue, but im going to feel so stupid if it turns out to be somthing simple like a setting on the phone somewhere.

Have you checked you arn't using MAC filtering?
Log-in to your router and check under Wireless settings > Wireless Station Access List.
While you are on your wireless setting page check what Encryption your using for WPA-PSK? TKIP? (The wrong encryption chosen will cause you not to be able to connect)
Ok maybe telling you how to suck eggs but on your phone:
Settings > Communication > Wifi
Select Advanced at the bottom right.
Select Change Network
Click Add new...
Type in the name of your network (The SSID also found under wireless settings, Case sensitive)
Select Connects to: The Internet
Leave the other two boxes unticked.
Click next.
Select the correct Authentication - WPA-PSK is different to WPA2-PSK. You will probably be using WPA-PSK.
Select the correct Encryption (Propably TKIP)
And type in your Network Key
Click Next and Finish.
How does this fair and what are the results of checking info on wireless setting page?

This connection most deffinatly does not have mac filtering on it, just asked the network tech.

Changed the network key to.... Shared key and it works
so i am guessing that it must be somthing to do with my setup at home..

Just match up the Authentication / Encryption / SSID and Network Key from the router to your phone setup and you should be fine.
HTC TD2 Wifi issues

There's some discussion around the web about this problem of encrypted wifi connectivity: a few things to note
1] the TD2 is _very_ sensitive to the power settings applied to the wifi chipset.
The default power saving settings are only likely to work if all other on-board devices - bluetooth, HSDPA, GPS [and maybe even the screen] are either off or in low power mode: the general recommendation seems to be that one adjusts the wifi device power to be "best performance" if one wants to guarantee connections.
2] several people have reported that both the wifi device [card] and the settings for the particular wifi lan [SSID] to which you are attempting to connect should both be configured for "Work" rather than "The Internet".
3] these secured/encrypted connection failures are not about the WiFi access point or router: I've personally tested with several different makes and models of Router and Access Point [3com, Cisco, Enterasys, Netgear, DLink, Belkin etc] - both on my own and on client networks where I have complete control of security, and have also methodically tested every single combination of TD2 setting for WEP and all variants of WPA. In each case my TD2 has failed to make a valid encrypted connection.
The same device will happily connect to "open" unencrypted access points and routers.
Other models of HTC device, such as the Tytyn II and Touch Pro work fine on the same access points and routers: so we can be pretty sure that this is specifically a TD2 issue.
Conversations with HTC's European Tech Support on this issue have not been helpful to date, but they HAVE pushed the issue further up the line, so there's a chance that we'll see a resolution.

I recently got a HP iPAQ H5455 with Windows Mobile 2003 at a garage sale. After some headaches and a bit of time wasted to get the battery charged, I was able to get the device to boot up and reset to remove the PIN that was installed by the previous owner.
Anyway, I'm having some problems being able to connect to WiFi. It wasn't obvious at first enabling WiFi, but after some research, I found an "IPAQ Wireless" on the device which is used to enable and disable Bluetooth and WLAN. After enabling WLAN (WiFi) for the first time, a notification appears to connect to a wireless network, so I choose my network and entered my WEP key. All normal procedure for connecting to a WiFi network. However, I noticed that I was not connected.
I then went to Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Network Card > Wireless and there I found a list of WiFi networks in range. I tried to connect to my network again by clearing all the data in the Authentication tab and re-entering it, including the WEP key. I tapped OK, but still no connection.
I thought that it may have been having trouble with the WEP key, so I set up an unencrypted network on another wireless router and tried to connect, but the same thing happens. Absolutely nothing.
Throughout the entire time I have WiFi on, the WLAN indicator LED on the device is flashing amber, which means no wireless link, according to the manual; a green flashing LED would indicate a wireless link.
Does anyone know what may be the problem here? I realize that I'm taking a shot in the dark here due to the age of not only the device, but the OS as well, but it's worth a shot, I think.

I'm using WM5 but sounds the same. Look in Ipaq Wireless> Advanced>IP Info> Config
and make sure you're using "sever assigned IP address"
Sometimes I'll have to renew the IP address multiple times to get it to stick, even though been usiging this connection over a year. I do it in the Ipaq Wireless> Advanced> Status page.
Sometimes a soft reset is needed to get things working correctly. For some reason on my device going between BT, Wifi and the SD will get the next one out of whack and the soft reset is the only cure.
The iPAQ Wireless app in WM2003 only has options for enabling and disabling Bluetooth and WLAN, and nothing else. I believe there may be settings for IP configuration in Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Network Card > Network Adapters. I see one of the adapters listed as "iPAQ USB Wireless Adapter." Is that the correct adapter? None of the others listed seem to make any sense when dealing with WiFi.
Edit: I checked in the iPAQ USB Wireless Adapter settings, and "Use server-assigned IP address" was already selected. I don't see anything about renewing the IP Address.
OK I'll try again first 2 replies got flushed by the system. My wireless card's name is similar to yours'. If you can see devices to connect to this part(radio) is already working.
I can renew the IP address on the page that has the signal strength meter (the status page for me). The IP and MAC addresses can also be seen at the bottom of the Ipaq Wireless>WLAN page. The wireless layout in WM5 hasn't been intuitive for me and still have to search quite a bit to find things.
Now you need to get your setting so you can get an IP address.

The problem I'm having is that the device can't even seem to properly connect to any WiFi access point. The Networking GUI says it is connected to my access point, but the hardware indicator LED is flashing amber, which seems to indicate no connection. The inability to connect to anything, even locally, seems to confirm this.
Furthermore, the iPAQ wireless app on my device (running Windows Mobile 2003) has no options for anything other than turning on or off the WLAN and Bluetooth.
The instructions in the page linked to above don't seem to match my device. That looks like it may be for Windows Mobile 2003 SE, and not the original version of WM2003.
Seems there may be enough difference I can't help you but if that's all you have don't see how you'll be able to connect to encrypted WiFi. Not familiar at all with 2003. Suspect small diffences exist just from one model to the next depending on where HP/Compaq left it. It has to have some level of functionality to be usefull.
I notice she says if the connect icon turns green you may need to run IE to finish connecting. No mention of the flashing light. My device has a blue light that flashes whenever a radio is on and gives no indication of connection.

Just my $.02 but I think if M$ had made this kind of thing simple and Activesync bullet proof the PPC would have sold like the iPhone.

It's just so strange that the OS can find WiFi networks and appear to be connect to them, but the hardware itself says it's not connected, and I cannot make any connection to my network or webpages.
Anyone else have any ideas?
