HP HW69XX tweaks/hacks/tips? - Sable

Hi all,
I'd like to know whether there's some sort of repository for HW69XX hacks/tips/tweaks etc?
I'm aware of many WM5 tips, many of them coming from this great site.
I'm referring to HW69XX specific things, especially since it is also a phone.
Thank you.

What do you have in mind? I'm not sure what level of "hacking" are you comfortable with and what exactly you'd like to tweak. Give me some questions and I'll list it out for you.

Good work...and...
Hi Buzz,
I'm been away from the forum for a good few months and I'm very pleasantly surprise by your excellent work.
In fact, after reading through the few threads on WM2005, I'm now the proud owner of a revitalised XDA2 with WM2005 v1.60a installed.
The only pet peeve I have is that Maction Monster Chinese and the likes don't installed well on the system anymore. I've a geniune need to read Chinese on my PDA phone, and I can't do it anymore with WM2005.
One approach I can take is to be patient, and another approach I can take is to ask you for a favour to join some other top brains here to figure out a good solution.
Obviously, there are mixed reports that certain patch like fontpatch.CAB, chinapatch.cab works for previous v1.50x versions. It would be some registry tweaks, or memory allocation issue, which your expertise would be sorely needed.
Cheers,
Henry

I saw Asukai thread on wince.nls. Great job there as well. I've tested it, and concur with AzN_devil that the Chinese-specific region settings cannot be seen in the Region Settings window for v1.60a. He claims that it works on v1.50h though, i think.
Nevertheless, I made some more tests and I can read Chinese display text on Word Mobile. Unfortunately, Chinese e-books still come out with gibberish text.
If you can shed some light on this mystery, I am sure the community continues to owe you yet another big favour.

ur asking an awful lot from people. i can see however that you havent got the latest o2 update. go to http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft.html to update!
there is so much of this information on this forum that it isnt funny asking for it again.
I can see that you have only ever made 2 posts, so it would seem that your first forum is out of naivety rather than stupidity.
As such, here are some hints and a starting point for you. Please be aware, that there is quite a good search function if you take the time to look and can use the multiple fields to narrow down your search function.
You can also try the wiki ftp site if you just want some software and utilities to use. In the end though, you will find the best outcome and most stable device if you go and buy it.

Agreed, this has been posted a great many times, each trying to be the definitive post on all aspects of the Universal - something which I think is frankly impossible as no single post can cater for everything.
In the defence of somewhat overwhelmed newcomers, however, I do think it's time for x-d to be reorganised (how many times have we said this??) and broken down more specifically than just General, Upgrading and Accessories. There should also be beginners guides, for just this kind of thing.
@ brightming: the links provided above are a good starting point, read them all thoroughly!
Cheers
Ant
I've been (mostly) lurking here for a few months and I'd agree - it'd be fantastic to have 1) more specific/detailed forums under the Universal heading and 2) some well-written, clear guides for newcomers - particularly given the repetition and duplication of many subjects in different posts. An alternative place to have some good how-to type guides might be the wiki, especially considering that it appears to be underused at the moment. Any mods fancy tackling this?...

Some advice please on ROMs

Hi there,
Hope this is the correct place to post. I have had a quick look through the various roms available and wondered if someone could advise me which rom looks and functions closest to that of the Diamond?
Thanks in advance

why don't you have a glance at the Diamond section of this site?
After reading comments you will become an expert.
I do not think anybody would take a responsibility to advice you unless you do it yourself by reading.
That is my humble counsel.
Thanks for the advice. I had a look at the Diamond fourm but most of the information seemed to be directed at Diamond owners. I have an XDA Oribt 2 which I want to make look like the Diamond.
Most of the Roms come with images to show you what the end product looks like. As the user previously wrote, its best to take a peek at them to find the one you want.
Take a look at this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417614
It might be closer to what you're looking for? Again, a suggestion and not a recommendation as theres no one rom that suits all.
That looks like what I'm looking for.
Just noticed that you were using different 3d drivers. I have seen the thead with the comparisons but after installing drivers before the rom update they didn't seem to have any effect on spb benchmark.
Any reccomendations there?
Thanks again.
You wont see many differences benchmark-wise I doubt, but I have noticed the general use of the phone is smoother - definitely in everyday use and faster in some heavier apps and games.

Stickey

It would be helpful if someone who has a lot of knowledge about HTC phones could post a stickey with hints etc.Obviously run thru admin.I am new to WM and it would help me if there were some tweaks we could use to get our Imagio up to speed.I like the phone a lot,yes there are some issues but not deal breakers.I have an itouch and the virtual keyboards aren't much different.
You just have to put a minimal amount of effort into searching

That is the point of a stickey. It saves one trying to search all over the site and possibly missing something important.

Best kitchen for HTC Rhodium ( AT&T Tilt 2 / Touch Pro 2 )

I use the AT&T Tilt 2, I'm trying to find the best kitchen to use for this phone. There are so many posted in the forums it's hard to find which one will work best. I downloaded osKitchen and I'll try it out but if someone can suggest a better one I'd really appreciate it.

Best in what sense? ease of use? Amount of features available? The reason I am asking is because everyone will give you a different version of what they believe is best. I am usually against this kind of threads simply because we have all learned from trial and error, so answering the "what is best" question is a very subjective matter. My advise to you would be to try them all and see which one you like best as you will be the one to determine what it is exactly that you are looking for in a kitchen. Best of luck!

Well, best in both ease of use and available features.
I'm pretty adept at stuff like this, so I'm not afraid of more advanced programs.
I guess if someone could point me to a few reliable, bug free kitchens I could start playing with them. I saw a thread attempting to catalogue the various kitchens and their known problems, but it hasn't done much of that yet.

I know... I started that thread and I am the one keeping it
@refyused:
Members who have made the kitchen tools generally do this in their spare time without compensation ... so it's likely that a few bugs will slip in.
I've mostly used Ervius Visual Kitchen (and PkgToolsBuildOS) for my ROM's; this doesn't mean that other kitchens aren't just as good (or better). Here's a link to my thread for the Raphael (aka Fuze/TouchPro) to start you on your way to learning. Ideally, you probably want to download a kitchen from the ROM development forum for your device and start from there.
Lastly, chef'ing is not a quic process; it can be tedious at times. It's most certainly isn't for folks who can't dedicate considerable time to it - there's a lot of research to do as most chefs will tell you.
Cheers,
