Some advice please on ROMs - Touch Cruise ROM Development

Hi there,
Hope this is the correct place to post. I have had a quick look through the various roms available and wondered if someone could advise me which rom looks and functions closest to that of the Diamond?
Thanks in advance

why don't you have a glance at the Diamond section of this site?
After reading comments you will become an expert.
I do not think anybody would take a responsibility to advice you unless you do it yourself by reading.
That is my humble counsel.

Thanks for the advice. I had a look at the Diamond fourm but most of the information seemed to be directed at Diamond owners. I have an XDA Oribt 2 which I want to make look like the Diamond.

Most of the Roms come with images to show you what the end product looks like. As the user previously wrote, its best to take a peek at them to find the one you want.
Take a look at this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417614
It might be closer to what you're looking for? Again, a suggestion and not a recommendation as theres no one rom that suits all.

That looks like what I'm looking for.
Just noticed that you were using different 3d drivers. I have seen the thead with the comparisons but after installing drivers before the rom update they didn't seem to have any effect on spb benchmark.
Any reccomendations there?
Thanks again.

You wont see many differences benchmark-wise I doubt, but I have noticed the general use of the phone is smoother - definitely in everyday use and faster in some heavier apps and games.

Comparison Table WM6.x ROM's

Hi all
I'd really appreciate to have a sticky (and updated) comparison table of all 6.x ROM's available. This would help users to decide and stop threads like "which is the best rom".
As I'm not a pro in knowing too many details about ROM's, I'm not able to do this :-(
So, is there anybody who could create such a list?
Thanks a lot!
this is a good idea but i'm too noobie as well to know what is inside the rom...
what i do was to read the pages as many as i can before deciding which roms is right for me...once i can make a decisiion, then i downloaded it and install...
if i'm not happy, i can always go back to the previous ROM...

It would be interesting if you read all the pages by yourself, I am sure you would enjoy and it would open a new chapter for you. Best wishes.
I agree with April 1.
With that said... you'll avoid plunging yourself into deep waters.
It will develop the habit of all members(new and old) to read first, starting from the wiki.
You will also get the chance to know the members.
AND
You'll have the chance of being a "pro" (knowledgeable).

Lots of good ROMS: how to choose?

Hi everyone and thanks to all the coockers that are working on new beta roms for our Polaris.
I've read all the 3d about the different coockers/release and I can say for me it's not easy to try all of them.
It's also difficoult to stay updated on every release news, fix and so on.
For me would be VERY USEFULL a 3d in which summarize avery release with all the caratheristics, positive and negative fatcs and so on.
What did you think about it?
Bye
HELLO i agree with you..
It's a good idea, but I'm not sure you'll find a quick reply.
The main trouble with the Touch Cruise is it's limited implementation globally. With the only US supporters having to import it, and the high price pretty much everywhere, I've noticed the general Polaris "community" isn't nearly as positive or helpful as the Kaiser thread community is. That doesn't mean EVERYONE is a jerk, but it's frustrating to have come from a device and forum where there were tons of people with a positive attitude, all sharing ideas. Here, it seems like most people just ***** about the device they bought, with only a few people (most in the upgrading forum) looking to make the most of it and improve it.
I've been waiting for someone to release a Diamond rom that would work on the Touch Cruise, simply because I like the analog clock look. But I don't have any real interest to force Office 2007 on myself, as I've used the app and don't see any real improvements over Office 2003. But this post isn't about which version of MS software is best.
Anyway... here's hoping the gurus of this forum stay upbeat, keep up the good work, and someone can "port" the Diamond VGA driver to the qVGA device. On the surface, it seems like a simple idea. But you have to wonder if the video chipset in the Polaris just isn't all that without more horsepower behind it, and maybe a better screen. Maybe that's why the Diamond is the new king of the pile. I'd love to upgrade to it, but just having bought my Polaris in Feb. or so, it will be a LONG time before I can justify ANOTHER new device.
Anyway, my compliments to the masters for all they do, and best wishes to those with a pretty cool phone!
My request is only trying to make an unique post in which all the coders can list their ROMS with the list of apps inlcuded and positive and negavite facts.
So when a new owner of the device came here can choose without loosing his mind in looking for informations in thousands of post.
That's all here....
Bye

its a good idea. but comparing various roms is a full time job and i'm afraid not many people have that kind of time.
This thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373233 has been around for a while with a list of Roms, I think thats the best you are going to get, it's just updated when it can be as far as I can tell but its came in usefull for me. Not sure if you missed it but it's been on the first page for a while. Unless I've missed the point and it's something else you are after?
The polaris is a good device and I've found help and support on these forums but its still quite new. I upgraded from the XDA Orbit and thats only been out just over a year I think, a lot of people bought in to 18 month contracts and so wont be upgrading for a while. I'd just bare with it and if you are unsure of anything, just ask.
My favourite ROM at the moment is Bepe's just because it's win 6.1, fast an clean then I've modified it to the standard I want by adding apps and tweaks. I've tried other roms but they are all at such early stages of development that a lot of them aren't really practical for day to day use as they can be very flakey. This won't last forever though.

Yeah it is possible to switch back to the original stock ROM if u want. and btw, nobody can decide the best ROM for u. It completelt depends on what u want. My suggestion would be to try more than one ROM and see for yourself.
thanks for your answers!
i just need the normal stuff working very well.. i do not need special things... a good album, nice soundgallery, btw. i like the original weather app and the normal functions should work and look nicer than in the normal rom...
so I think I will test the leoR1 ROM..
for my other plan: are there any good sites to search for appz? or lists with good appz for the hd?
maybe you know a different rom for me to test?
best
See
There are whole forums dedicated to rom development and apps, software and themes for the Blackstone. Read these and use search.
There is also a wiki showing which apps and games work with the device. Short answer is there is a wealth of info in these forums, seek and yee shall find.
Just be aware that Dutty has deleted Manila in his rom so you won't be able to use the TF3D interface.
I'm actually testing Miri's Rev 7.1 which has just been realesed. Except IE (and consequently MS Widgets) everything works fine.

I'm still testing the rom (and WM6.5). Everything seems fine.
Just follow Miri's thread to be aware of any problem.

we're all willing to offer opinions/feedback on ROMs, however, you should also be willing to read the threads to determine which ROM will work for you. that's what the ROM threads are for - we've answered many of your questions in advance. do yourself and others in the community a favor: read, learn, pick a ROM, test it and contribute by providing constructive feedback. threads like yours are opened daily only to be closed by the moderators (i can see FallenSpartan making his way here now, lol). best wishes to you as well!
Vanilla
Before this thread is closed, which it should be, I suggest if you want to try a ROM newer than the last official HD ones but not cutting edge (aka buggy) try kwbr's Vanilla ROM. It's a port of Topaz to the HD.

Ciao
You've asked an opinionated question which is generally frowned against as everyone has different opinions, as well as loyalties to certain chef's. Plenty of people before you have already asked these questions and each time they get same result.........closure of thread.
Best advice would be to read first 4-5 posts of each rom thread, try a few roms and make your own conclusion. Plenty of people have already offered advice. Now its your turn to research and try.

Best kitchen for HTC Rhodium ( AT&T Tilt 2 / Touch Pro 2 )

I use the AT&T Tilt 2, I'm trying to find the best kitchen to use for this phone. There are so many posted in the forums it's hard to find which one will work best. I downloaded osKitchen and I'll try it out but if someone can suggest a better one I'd really appreciate it.

Best in what sense? ease of use? Amount of features available? The reason I am asking is because everyone will give you a different version of what they believe is best. I am usually against this kind of threads simply because we have all learned from trial and error, so answering the "what is best" question is a very subjective matter. My advise to you would be to try them all and see which one you like best as you will be the one to determine what it is exactly that you are looking for in a kitchen. Best of luck!

Well, best in both ease of use and available features.
I'm pretty adept at stuff like this, so I'm not afraid of more advanced programs.
I guess if someone could point me to a few reliable, bug free kitchens I could start playing with them. I saw a thread attempting to catalogue the various kitchens and their known problems, but it hasn't done much of that yet.

I know... I started that thread and I am the one keeping it
@refyused:
Members who have made the kitchen tools generally do this in their spare time without compensation ... so it's likely that a few bugs will slip in.
I've mostly used Ervius Visual Kitchen (and PkgToolsBuildOS) for my ROM's; this doesn't mean that other kitchens aren't just as good (or better). Here's a link to my thread for the Raphael (aka Fuze/TouchPro) to start you on your way to learning. Ideally, you probably want to download a kitchen from the ROM development forum for your device and start from there.
Lastly, chef'ing is not a quic process; it can be tedious at times. It's most certainly isn't for folks who can't dedicate considerable time to it - there's a lot of research to do as most chefs will tell you.
Cheers,

New Android Website! Need Feedback! Please

Hi, I am working on a new site with some of my buds...
Since we all have HD2's lol we will start here. The plan for this site is to help you with your android hacking. Like I said we will start with the HD2 for right now but eventually expand a whole lot. We want to have Android latest news and phones, help the community out. Maybe have forums eventually for other android devices in the future. Who knows where this idea will take us, but we want to focus on helping out the community. In no way we will be competing with XDA, but for Newbies is not easy reading thru all these phorums; or they are just lazy lol. We currently have a writer, graphic designer and a Mod freak to start things off. We want to know what you guys think, feel free to discuss and overall: What would you like to see on the site?
The site shall be called WWW.ANDROID4LIFE.COM and it goes live real on 3-1-11
You can preview the site now! Here: http://www.wix.com/casademipadre777/android4life

Very good site. Fantastic for beginners. Layout is easy to see and format throughout is good. Continuity also good.
One thing I will mention is that the transition effects between pages may be a burden for some older legacy computers and people running a a poor connection. Perhaps having a feature to avoid this would be good.
Good work man

Thanks. I'm glad you like the concept, and you are right... Pure Html sites are better but they lack on data stability, which is why we are using more flash sites. Besides they are more simple and I am a flash freek lol. This site is more for our generation and you need a good internet connection jaja! But we do have a link to update your browser flash player, we hope that helps some people. I really appreciate your feedback and trust me your suggestion is kept
it appears like its a NAND flashing method you are building here
you should specify that, as we know the other method is via SDCard in Winmo 6.5
also you should highlight the importance of the very basic and foremost first step of all
flashing HSPL3 (2.08HSPL)
then, MAGLDR
then everything else follows.
just my polite suggestion, very nice website BTW

Thanks jigners, we are thinking of adding a seperate tab for the SD Method for those that follow. But you got it right we are Emphasizing the Nand method. We will talk about this in the Video Tutorials along with all these major important steps, thanks!
Asshhhh.
Oeh, ok i try start at first things. It will be hard for you to understand but i give my best.
Never ever dont think this way - i have new and good pc (laptop, tab or smartphone) and my friends have too. So i create website, fun yes.
Real life is other. 65% people use older pc-s. Even more, think if someone goes to this site with hd2 and winmo, what and how he then see this page. This ugly and today outstanding flash IS NOT good way make good website. I'm serious.
REMAKE IT NOW.
About design.
I liked it. Littlebit mottled but not hurt everyone.
Site visitors counter today also out. Just place it bottom and hide for itself only.
I recommend to you get better some php based cms and attach your design. Then your site will be gotten on fly. With hd2 winmo and 3G. As you want bring beginners to site.
And one hint more. Think again about site content and main idea. Why? Week ago i seen on HTC site HD2, today not.
I dont want claim or blame you. Just these opinions i got whe i looked to this site. I thinked itself many times that hd2 needs some special site for helping xda devs work better and not waste time for threads named like these examples just gotted at this forum: [Q]Help needed Please, problems, HELP!

I understood some and thanks, we will work on making a back up for those that use older pc's lol. Thanks for the tips too, the datat that flash sites produce is awesome. The "visitor counter" feature that you mentioned is built in on the url as soon as you click it, the features of flash sites. We certantly want this to help people and make it easier to see, thanks... I hope we don't become like that site that you mentioned, that just disapeared lol...
