Will the price change after GPS activated - P3600 General

Hi all,
i am one from Hong Kong, i would like to ask that will the price of D810(Trinity) change after GPS activated.

uhmmm maybe...

Certainly not, until the GPS ROM reaches retail, the device will have reached at least 50% of its retail life time of six month average, thus at least stay the same pricewise, if not lower in certain areas...

Do they have an online service with daily or at least weekly map updates that doesn't cost a fortune?
If not - why bother.
Which company offers this for Sweden?

As far as I know - no one offers what I am asking for in any market :-(
Before it is available a GPS is just not worth the price compared to a standard map for car navigation. On a boat or in the wilderness - sure, these environments don't change that often.
Navigated from northern Sweden to Barcelona with TomTom3 without ever finding a broken route. It even kept us clear from the autobahn in Germany, because you can't drive a light truck with a light trailer on it on Sundays.. Strange.. Had to re-route manually though, but it sure got us where we wanted and we were back on autobahn about 5 minutes after the ban ended.
I agree that they should offer updates, but once every quarter would be enough, I think.

I guess you still followed at least b-roads?
To follow b-roads I don't need a GPS, my old map will do just as well as long as I have my wife next to me.
It is when there is a sudden change to the route because of road works or tragic jams I need a GPS to suggest an alternative route. But with maps and traffic information older than ten to fifteen minutes this is of little help.
I think 200sek (£15) is about what one month of constantly updated maps for one country is worth for a private user. And with constant I mean at least every 15 minutes.
B-roads? Hehe, We were directed on roads the Germans themselves didn't know existed But without a doubt, they were really fast when going from one bigger road to another.
I bet you'll not find those 15 minute map updates this decade. Traffic info in one thing (which TomTom offers, although not in Sweden), but changed maps.. I think not..
Ok, you don't need to actually update the entire map every fifteen minutes. But you should at least get an update everytime there has been a change to the real world that affects the map. And it should definitely be updated with accurate speed limits.
If you don't like it don't buy it!
I personally think it's a usefull tool, I'm currently looking to relocate to a new area that I don't know and have found TomTom a fantastic aid when driving around cities you don't know looking for property.
Just put the post code in and drive from door to door
Oh and if you subscribe to the Traffic service you can get Live Traffic information delivered to your device by GPRS........ well you can in the UK anyway
UK and Holland has the traffic info only..
Accurate speed limits would be great. I don't know any program that offers this though. About the map updating, It's TeleAtlas who buys the data from local companies and sells it to the makers of GPS programs. I doubt even the local companies update very often, but I read somewhere that TeleAtlas wants users to tell them about errors in the maps so that they can update and have more accurate maps for the next release.
I think the main problem is the price model. Instead of selling cumulative updates at an affordable subscription cost, whenever ther is a new version of the map you have to buy an entirely new map! This is how it used to work in the old days, when maps had to be printed in books and put on a shelf in a shop.
And why are the maps by country or region? Give me the entire thing and let me pay for what I use! Not until I view or route through a part of the map on the device should I be charged for it.

Release Date

I've just been on the phone to Expansys uk and they tell me this device will be available through them on the 30th September,as I previously know with Expansys this could more likely mean 30th January 2006!Anybody have any release dates from other companies and when they expect to be shipping them to customers?
Also I've been reading into the facy the cpu is 200 mhz instead of the Jams current 415mhz.Is there some reason for this?Does it really mean it's a slower unit or is the device and cpu mapped differntly somehow so it will perform the same as the jam,or perhaps faster? It looks a great device and i cab't beleive they would put a much slower processor in unless there were some valid reason for it,and i don't want to "upgrade" to a slower device!Any thoughts?
I read somewhere that it would be using TI OMAPs 195mhz some say it will be slower but some say that it would make no or lil diff as the OMAPs sort of act as 'dual' processors... one for phone part the other pda part (thus no slow down and saves power). we can never be sure unless we play with it and load it with all our fav apps though... i'd wait for a hands on review since the previews floating about are of pre-prod units or engineering samples, better to read an actual full review of a shipping product. I'm really excited about the wizard!!! hope it rocks... so far it's the only ppc coming out that i am really eyeing the universal seems too big.
Cant see it been slower really - wont do their sales much good.
Terran
Unfortunately, it will be considerably slower. While the OMAP does combine seperate processors for phone and PDA functionality, at the end of the day it is just a 195MHz ARM processor (as found in PDAs from years ago) - it's not even Xscale.
The fact that its a "dual processor" doesn't help unless you are trying to use a programme like Skype (which apparently DOES work on the Wizard!).

device on smartdevicesdirect
There's this supplier in the Uk
www.smartdevicesdirect.com
that says that the wizard is going to be available in 1st october...
Does anyone have any feedback on this site ? are they reliable for purchase ?
Their price is suspiciously low -- I've preordered with www.expansys.co.uk, I tried doing a pricematch but they said
Pls be advised that we are unable to price match something that has not been released.

So I guess £449 is the price I'll be paying (unless the price drops when the product is released).
When you're spending so much money, it's best to go with a company that has built up trust. I was reading the "returns" agreement with smartdevicesdirect.co.uk and you can only return if there is a fault; Expansys give you a 21 day grace period (like Argos' 16 day money-back guarantee). From experience, companies that explicitly state they can only accept returns for faulty items usually give much more problems/ resistance when trying to get an RMA --- even if the product is faulty (they have razor-thin profit margins and such).

( Intresting that there is no sign of the Universal.... )
Well that decides that one. Cancelled my order from Expansys and went with Smartdevicesdirect.com. Just hope I haven't made a mistake!
Well... you probably did! This device is not even leaving the factory before the second week of october. All this pre-order stuff you're reading is all (xcuse my english) CRAP
Dutch, excuse my ignorance, but how can you be so sure.
I have heard from 2 reputable online stores that they are arriving next week. Do you know something we dont ?
Yes, I do
OK then dutch, why don't you offer it up for all.
I just pre-ordered a Wizard from MadMonkeyBoy.
Actually, better than that, I just noticed in your sig, that you already own a Qtek 9100 (sorry I didn't see that before).
While I'm waiting for mine (which might take until October), can you give your impressions of the Qtek 9100. I'd love to hear how it's working for you on a daily basis. How is Windows Mobile 2005. What are the pros and cons of this device? Can you contrast it to the S110 which you also own?
Also, can you run some benchmarks for us on that processor? If your could run the SPB benchmarks (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/benchmark/?en) I'm sure everyone would greatly appreciate it. How is full screen video playing, and what is the battery life of the device with, and witout Wifi?

A click away from ordering - any reservations/recommendations?

So thanks to a fat tax check clearing my bank, I can afford sinking what I consider far too much money for a phone--specifically the N1(AT&T.)
But I can't sit back and see exactly how badly the next 3 versions of android phone AT&T will release. Service wise, it's a good company, but in terms of products offered, they're in too deep with contractual obligations to get a smartphone that does what most people want. Updates are virtually non-existent unless it's an iPhone. So the more I think of it, the more likely I'll be happier doing the N1 unsub'd.
I've read a few reports on battery life and it seems that it's about the same as the iphone in terms of a day's lifespan or less. (the wife has one--traitor. ) Radio, the mileage varies based on location--normal. Rooting kills the warranty, but not all that needed--yet. None of this stuff is sending up any red flags to not pour more money into the Chocolate Factory and their uber-phone.
Anyone pick up the desktop/nightstand cradle and what do you think of it? Heard there's a car version as well that snaps into maps when the N1 is docked. Is that available, think it's worth it, where do you get it?
Edit: Oh, yeah--engraved case for free (but forfeit money back refund) What to put on that - "Give me Android AND give me FREEDOM!" lol Prob just leave that well enough alone though. (Not all that narcissistic)
Talk me in or out of it before I click the confirm button. Oh, and what's the eta for std shipping? (thinking about actually doing next day if the option is there.)
Thanks
A recommendation? Simples... do it.
Google ships all Nexus Ones overnight for free.
This is hands down the best phone I have ever owned. What's not to love about it?
Apps you want, features you want, and if it's missing anything you do want, root it and make it do whatever you want to. Google Navigation is awesome as well. It has completely replaced TomTom for me.

Battery life is on par with every other smart phone I've owned (3x HTC windows mobile handsets).
I rooted my T-Mo N1, but haven't rooted my AT&T N1. The benefits really didn't warrant voiding the warranty for me (especially as you can't get insurance on the device on AT&T - I had insurance with T-Mo). I've used PDANet with Windows mobile and had no problem purchasing the Android version (although there is a free version that doesn't do HTTPS) for use to tether when I need it (infrequently when traveling).
I do have the desktop dock and like it quite a bit. It's nice not to have to plug/unplug the USB constantly - the drop in is quite convenient. It works well as a nightstand also.
The car dock is not out yet from Google.
I am happier with this phone than any other phone I've owned. Not being stuck behind a manufacturer modification (MotoBLUR or Sense) will also mean that updates shouldn't get stalled the way they do for other devices.
Go for it...you will be in heaven!
Ok, so patience ran out. I clicked the button. For S&G's I picked up the cradle for the $45 extra after all I already use my current phone as an alarm clock so might as well.
As for the car dock, it's supposedly going to be released soon, but not currently out yet. Future purchase I suppose.
Anyone want to but a pair of Epix's? (my old one and the wifes and both just had the crappy touch screen replaced over the last couple of days.)

What phone are you using now?
Sell it and that way the $529 is much easier to think about.
I sold my G1 so my N1 was effectively only $400
Oh, of course the sale of my old POS Epix will go towards the cost of one of these. But the real question is, do I offload now or wait a couple weeks (or months at this rate) for the official WM6.5 update? Wife's is stock standard while I already have Trashcan's 6.5 installed and both will most likely hit fleabay.
I hope you have better luck than me.I had my Nexus One for 5 days,I sold it after that.....worse signal ever...it was driving crazy fluctuating all the time, losing signal.I am sure the AT&T version is better.
I called Google customer service and they told me that the N1 is searching for the strongest signal whereas the G1 is always searching for 3G,whatever....I just wanted a good phone, that's all.I was even losing signal in my bedroom,my bed is by the windows and the freaking phone was going from EDGE to 3G to no signal all the time.
I have seen a lot of comments and videos of people with the same issues.I am sure you will enjoy it the phone,it is beautiful and fast, but I did not have much luck.

No one wants a WM phone, and even fewer people will in a few months from now. It's a completely dead OS, with Microsoft already openly committed Windows Phone 7. You better sell as fast as you possibly can.

You live in a low T-Mobile coverage area. You were probably also wrapping your hand around the bottom of the phone, which would kill the signal completely in such a low coverage area.

Could be,but this is the first time I come across this regardless of the OS or brand,no signal in my bedroom and the signal fluctuation.
The way I grab and hold the phone....well like anybody does,it is a phone there is no much to explain on how to hold it,to me this phone has been a little bit of a Google's failure,a phone is a phone...communication first, then the cool features.
After the Nexus One I bought a HTC HD2,like you said WinMo is dead I totally agree,I had it for 2 days, there are certain things that Microsoft does not do very well yet, after so many years with their freaking windows mobile it is incredible, plus sometimes you (still) kinda need the stylus and the OS still has those windows 98 looking menus and windows.
So I returned it and got the new mytouch, which is not the best, but after my last experience I think I am going to wait a year and a half until I get a cool device, specially since anything we buy these days is a battery killer.

I'm the same.
I've got mine on pre-order with MobiCity ever since pre-order was available, and I've been trying desperately to avoid the temptation to buy the white now, and then sell it when I get my blue.
It's so tempting!!
I swing from telling myself to just be patient, to just go out and buy it.
Not knowing when I'm due to get it makes it more difficult.
I can wait a week, but 2 or more is REALLY pushing it for me.

Battery Life
Hmm, I bought an S2 and ditched it after 6 months because the battery life was appalling. I've had a Nexus for the last 6 months and that has had excellent battery life. I got an S3 yesterday through Vodafone and my first impressions of the phone are great, battery life... not great. Same problem as the S2.
I left it charging all night and today having been off the charger for 2 hours it's at 85% and hardly been used. In the battery section of settings it states 'Cell Standby' as using 87% of the drain.
Anyone got any idea what causes this? Feeling completely frustrated and certainly not rushing to sell the Nexus yet
Anyone found great deals with particular carriers?
Im leaning towards virgin if they are willing to throw in an extra 2gb of data. no experiance with them though, whats there coverage like?

Probably still a bit early to tell. But it does look too much considering you have barely used it. Run it down completely then charge again to 100%. It should improve over the next few days.
Personally on my S2 I switch off 3g and mostly use wifi and have very little apps syncing in the background. Can get between 1-2 days depending on usage.
What I love about the galaxy series is the removable battery. With the S1 & S2 I bought 3 spare batteries + wall charger off ebay for just over $10 delivered. I leave 1 in the car, 2 at home and one in the phone obviously. These are the Chinese generic ones but in 2 years have never had a problem. Boy do they come in handy when I go away.

Cheers. I'll give it some cycles. The Nexus was outstanding for battery. Everything turned on, full syncing and lasted 24 hours without issue unless I went really heavy on usage. I hope this is better!
Got mine as a free upgrade from vodafone, same contract I had for last 3 years too so im happy. Its white but ill make a skin for it anyway. So far so good.

Waiting & MircoSim
I'm also waiting on the Pebble Blue from Mobicity... Going to Singapore on the 14th so really hope it arrives before then. Probably cutting it a bit close.
I've got a question about Vodafone pre-paid though. If I go into a store do you think it will much of a hassle to get a mircosim out of them? I like being on pre-paid and don't want a contract.
Cheers
The give out micro-sims without any hassle. I went this after noon into Voda and said I want a microsim. Once activated it was working by the time I walked out the door.
I'm gonna get mine on telstra been with optus for 10 years and they would not even give me an early upgrade of one month . Pathetic but I just want the service radius of telstra.

Virgin uses Optus network so coverage would be good i suppose.
And the $57 a month plan seems like the best option to me..
I don't care about colour because i always get covers for my phones but wondering if i should wait for the 32gb...
It seems that as it was with the S2, Telstra and Vodafone will be selling the 'T' version handsets.
Fortunately it's just the same as the International version except for some change in the radio. Therefore when flashing custom roms in future better reception will be achieved by flashing a 'T' model modem over the top. Especially for those who end up using an Optus sim in them.

Virgin/Optus are pretty bad IMO... I was with Virgin for the past 4 years and have to say that I found it difficult to get through my monthly quota of data - because 3G coverage was that poor. 70-80% of the time, I would attempt to load a page, and after waiting 30s, the connection would time out.
I signed up to a contract with Telstra today, and the NextG network craps all over Virgin/Optus. The reason behind this (I think) is that Telstra uses 850MHz for most 3G data, and this has much better penetration abilities than 2100 (for indoor and outdoor coverage)... Add to that the fact they don't oversubscribe their towers.
I have full reception at my house on Telstra and I was lucky to get 1 bar before with Virgin, with constant call dropouts. Telstra may be $10 extra per month, but the service is fantastic and well worth it.
Just my 2c worth.

Thinking of switching over from a Samsung Note7...

The Axon7 seems to press most of the right buttons - QHD OLED screen, microsd slot, USB-C etc - and also great sound which for me is a bonus. However, I am concerned about the reports of poor reception / signal quality, especially since the 4G signal where I am is pretty low.
Is this an issue for many? Has there been any improvement? Is it still something to be concerned about? I'd appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks
EDIT: I am in the UK, btw. Should I go for the A2017G or A2107U? I hear bad things about the A2017G but not sure the A2017U supports all the LTE bands I would need?
A2017G is good.
A2017U is good.
Its up to you which you want to buy, im not having many problems with the G and the support in Europe is good for me plus comes with a 3 year warranty which ive taken use of already.
Who is your cell phone carrier? I have the U variant and I reside within the states.. Signal is good for me. I don't live in a rural town, has 4g but not the same way a big city like Los Angeles does.
I've never had any dropped calls, text messages that wouldn't send etc.
Signal improved a lot with b27 update I think it was.
The US variant gets better updates from what I understand.

You mean a kevlar suit and bomb disposal gear. Never far from my side, lest it should go off at any moment.

It's SUCH a worry, I don't know how I sleep at nights.
When I got the phone here in the US there was a 30 day period where you could return the phone if you didn't like it. If there's something like that in the UK, I'd go that route. In my opinion, there's no better way to know how you'll like a phone till you experience it in your day-to-day use
I, for one, do not regret my purchase. Even on stock it's still an improvement from my Nexus 5. The build quality is great and I'm even fine under the stock ROM- though I did eventually switch to CyanogenMod.
If you're in it for customization I'd probably go to another phone such as the OnePlus, throw down some cash for a Pixel, or get a Nexus 5x or 6p and wait for the next interesting phone to come out.

Not really! You wont be able to find the phone on sale in the UK anymore so it would have to be from Amazon Germany where they wont send you a three pin charger, you'll need to find an adapter for that in Poundland.
Id say the amount of updates theyve given the EU is nothing to think bad off, they may be a bit slower than the USA but the updates are continuously coming and improving the phone.
At the end of the day there are still many guides on how to unlock the bootloader, root and flash for A2017U and A2017G so theres not a big difference in the phones. The only main difference i see is the headphone output volume in the EU is a bit lower than the USA but this can be fixed with root.
Its really up to you, but i really enjoyed the 3 year warranty they gave:
-Please be noted -----
ZTE provides VIP service for Axon7 customers in UK/Germany/Spain/France/Italy/Russia. you can benefit from the Axon VIP service as follow:
1.ZTE provide an additional one-year warranty for your product after the expiration of the standard warranty; Europe countries increased from 2 years to 3 years, Russia from 1 year to two years.
2.ZTE provide one free screen replacement for the accidental screen damage within 6 months from the date of the first purchase;
3.ZTE provide one free liquid damage repair within the manufacturer warranty period;

Hope all this helps.
I would say, maybe let's see what the nougat update will be made off first.
As for me, I have it since more than 2 months now (A2017G, I'm coming from a galaxy note 2) and honestly all the software quirks are really frustrating when added up, it just feels clunky overall (bad translation doesn't help either, but I guess it should be okay in english, I use it in french). There is energy management that is half assed and very amateurish (hello app killer on lock), the dolby app always resetting itself, the camera very hard to use in moderate light environment (even inside with ceiling lighting), erratic multitasking, synchronization delays, notification glitches on lock screen, etc. I for one still have signal issues: get continuous connection/disconnection from a particular WiFi access point (the only device which ever did that), 4G working but suddenly can't connect to any server, stuff like that.
There is also the general "unsmoothness" of the OS: jerky notification panel scroll down, sudden change of brightness before auto lock instead of a gradual one, double vibration on press when pressing once a capacitive button, displaying the lock screen for a quarter of a sec before the home screen when finger unlocking, etc.
That's why I would want to see what they baked in a major update, maybe everything will feel smooth and resolved at last or maybe it will have gotten even worse: it'll be a good measure in term of what you can except from the devs from then on.
The hardware is mostly great though: sturdy build and high end components. The sound is a bonus like you said because it isn't that great either with the A2017G, listening with a headset/earphone seems to have been improved on the last build (slightly more volume on the last notch) but the speakers aren't very loud and can start to hiss... it sure isn't a must buy feature. There is also the capacitive button... I'm pretty sure nobody is completely satisfied with them, they'll just do: bad spacing and above all no backlighting which is inexplicable (see the ZTE Nubia which have the same backlit keys for instance), so it's hard to get used to them in the dark (at least with a galaxy note you have a physical button at the center which help find the capacitive keys on the side). The vibration when touching them when haptic feedback is enabled is also too strong and make their use uncomfortable for me. Now there is Mi-Pop if you want some kind of on screen navigation buttons but like everything ZTE has baked, they are quite half assed and the UX is bad: you need to slide it once in order to have other buttons appearing which is very tedious, so you will just use the one always displayed...
It's not a bad phone per se but months after its release it's still crippled with software bugs, the dev process is rather slow and there will be a time not that far in the future when all work on it will be stopped and things'll be let unfinished.
Now if you plan on installing third party roms (effectively one for now I guess) it could be a whole other story, but I've not tested them so I can't tell much about them.
I have the USA variant. Everywhere I have been in the SE US the reception is roughly the same as my iPhone 6s+ on T-Mobile. So I don't really see any issues with it honestly.
Thank-you very much to everyone who's replied. I really appreciate your thoughts and comments.
I don't mean to hijack this thread but I've been thinking about getting the ZTE Axon 7 a lot as well to replace my aging OnePlus One and I'm also in the UK. I originally was saving up to get the Note 7 like you but of course, the big fiasco happened and I never got a chance to get it. This phone seems to tick most, if not all, the boxes that the Note 7 does. I missed out on getting the Axon 7 on Amazon UK a couple times now and I don't really want to pay more for it from Amazon Germany. I've stumbled across a ZTE Axon 7 being sold for £337 on GearBest and they say that it's the A2017G version which I might bite the bullet and buyit but in case it's the A2017 Chinese version, it wouldn't work here right? Also, I too am worried from what I've read around XDA about cell signal problems, the annoying quirks of the software, lesser priority to updates, no unlocked bootloader and the biggest issue of all, the EU law limit on audio levels and really bad dolby atmos problems.

They are overpricing it quite a bit with their £410 price tag. I have no clue where they got their pricing for the Axon 7 and they have the balls to say it's a savings of £89. Amazon UK was selling the gold and grey versions for £359 before they went out of stock. As of the time of writing this, Amazon Spain currently is selling at the lowest price with the grey version in stock which is the colour that I want for €434.99 = £377 if I wanted to buy it from a more secure source. GearBest is a chinese retailer that caters to global market but I have purchased items from them before and their customer service is great. I'm just not sure whether to take the plunge or not on this phone.

Indeed. The weak pound pushed UK prices for things like this up at a stroke.

You'd have to pay VAT + Duty on the £337 from Gearbest, wouldn't you? Which would make it about £420, unless I am missing something?
FWIW, based on feedback here and research elsewhere, I have decided not to buy one myself. I'm sticking with my Note 7 until a more suitable replacement can be found here in the UK. I'd be tempted by a Huawei Mate 9 Pro, but it's very expensive and I'd have to import a Chinese one, which I don't want to do.

I've not bought anything that expensive from them before so I'm not sure how much I would have to pay but they usually ship it with lower value declaration to avoid custom charges. I've not had to pay any custom charges so far but everything was under £100.
I'm kind of leaning towards waiting to see what happens in the near future as well. Not only to see what future updates will do for this phone but new phones waiting to be released. I feel like ZTE REALLY dropped the ball with this phone especially in Europe starting with the abysmal launch and supply issues for European markets and the unreliable software. I'm glad my Oneplus One is still going strong after 2.5 years and with custom ROMs.

Don't get me started on Brexit. Lol
I don't know how people in this country are still cheering for Brexit.
