SMS like chat anyone? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Ok, I am a big fan of windows mobile. I have used most such as BlackBerry, Palm, Symbian... There's only one piece of software I cannot seem to find for WinMobile. I would like to find something to make text messaging similar to the Treo or BlackBerry. Treat text messaging like instant messaging. Does anyone know of software that gives Windows Mobile the capability of this?
-Thanks for the recommendation for search vijay!

Palm Threader
http://ppcgeeks.com/threaded-sms-is-...0-29-t978.html

Old news
Search (hard) for "Palm messaging".
V

In searching for Palm Messaging I came across SMS Threader. It's awesome.
Thanks

Maybe you didn't have to search quite THAT hard : )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280256

By hard, I meant, accounting for the fact that the cabs have now been removed. But they're still available in various places....

yup yup

Ok.. found This as well
Palm Threaded SMS Application for WM5
http://ppcgeeks.com/threaded-sms-is-working-update-10-29-t978.html

this one's from O2SMSPlus

Is that O2 SMS Plus available to the public? Couldn't find it to download....
The Threader looks great, but i didn't want to install the CF 2.0 if possible...

By using these programs you don't get charged for text messages?

no, it's just a better way to text. these are still sending SMS's, if i am correct.

I try to install the SMS threader "to device", and get the error: cannot be installed..
HELP

did you install the .NET Compact framework 2.0 first?
You can download it here
It looks like this program needs this to run, which is too bad b/c i am told that takes up a lot of memory

I guess it cant be installed to storage?
Is it worth it to run this chat program....?
Thanks

CF2 is required by a lot of other apps as well; see for example http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/in...n_of_net_compact_framewo&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 for an almost complete list of the best CF2-dependent titles.

It wont let me install// I dont have free 24mgb internal program memory...
Having trouble installing Resco or Total commander also?
Thanks

NET CF 2.0 stinks. Too slow to load, etc. Maybe with AKU 3.2 it will be faster since it will be native, who knows.
The Palm app BLOWS all the other apps out of the water. Not even close. I hope you find the .cab, its worth it.

The Palm one dosnt require .NET Compact framework 2.0 ???
Anyone know where I can get the CAB?

i dont see or have any issues with netcfV2.0 yes its large, like 2meg, but i run programs that depend on it such as wififofum and hitchhiker, etc... i can choose the cab to install to my storage card and dont have any issues running the said programs.
and i do agree.. search very hard for the palm messaging app, this is one of my must install programs!! its fantastic!

XDA II: Assigning different ringtones to different contacts

Does anyone know if this can be done on the XDA II?
One of the third party software that I used for this purpose is MTUX RintoneX. Have a look at www.mtux.com
Like Chriswo I too use RingToneX to add that missing feature of user assignable ringtones to my XDA II. It's isn't freeware but it does work well and is easy to use.
Any sign of a freeware application to do this simple task alone anyone?
RinTonex
Dear Criswo and Ednap,
to use RinTonex did had to unistall the IA software or can you get the picture from the IA SW and the ring from RinTonex?
Thanks!
Chris
P.S.: also, have you tried other appications for this purpouse? Why do you think that RinTonex is better than the other available...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=522&highlight=
IA Caller ID doesn't need to be uninstall. RingtoneX can work on top of IA Caller ID after all, one sees the numbers and find the matching PHOTO, and the other sees the number and find the matching Ringtone. They can work together.
THANK YOU!!!
WOW!
This is what I wanted to hear!!!
I wasn't sure both SWs could see the caller at the same time!
I undestanding you have used this combination and it worked!
Thanks!
Chris
Exactly like chriswo says, they can work side by side and all OK
does ne 1 have the serial for ringtonex ???

plz don't post keygens & hacks on this forum.

Time and Place for everything. I am sure we all might know places to get keygens and hacks for various needs.
However, this forum is NOT the place for it. There are other places to post that.
A moderator should remove the postings as soon as possible.
There is no other place even remotely like XDA-Developers. To get it shut down because somebody has no class would be really pathetic.
Give Phonext a try, it is free and does what the OP wants: assign a ringtone to a contact. You'll find it here:

Ok, sorry
Phonext on my SX56
I can't run the "SetupPhonExt_PPC2002.exe" on my XDA. is it because its the ATT version? I unlocked it by switching to PPC2002 w/ the unlock in the ROm, then reflashing w/ WM2003. I copied the file over, and it can't install. Is there something i'm missing? It says it is not a valid application.

New Threaded SMS on vodaphone Treo 750v

The new tro 750v has threaded sms. Any hope to have this program available for all wm5 devices?
although a little early (device is not out yet) I second for this request.
For those who don't know, SMS threading is a Palm thing done in their Palm OS. Recently it has been announced that it's in their 750 and eventually their 700w/wx series as well. Basically it's makes your SMS conversation look like an IM conversation making it easier to read:

It IS a seperate Messaging application that is NOT fully intergrated into Outlook (though I imagine it hooks into the system sounds). It also has a Today Plugin for SMS, which is very nice as well. So from the looks of it, it should be possible to extract from the system if anyone is up for it (when the device comes out)!
O2 SMS Plus does also handle SMS like a thread
A lot of people made request to extract parts from the Treo 700w ROM but to bad only a few parts were extracted.. ..hope they will take this SMS program from the 750v ROM

Yeah the O2 SMS Plus looks nice but from what I understand not many were able to get it to work on any non-O2 devices, or not work well.
Hopefully this will be easier. People did get that Speed Dial/Picture dial plugin afterall.
O2 Sms plus not the same thing
O2 sms plus does not save your chat messages once you exit the application. Furthermore it is not taking the messages from the default pocket outlook so you end up with the same message in two applications. In a thread I started in the Wizard forum an application called "SMS Threader" at trianglepowers.com was discovered. It is almost perfect except I couldn't get it working reliably. I believe it could be due to application conflicts but I will wait to see if the Treo application gets released before I try this again. Everyone should look into sms threader. And make sure you sign up to the forum for there are a few debuging tips mentioned.

Threaded SMS WM6.1 extracted cab yet?

has anyone extracted the files needed for threaded SMS WM6.1 yet? I found the IE cab with zoom. works on the Hermes, but is slow.

Well it looks the same except for the zoom, which works ok. Opera Mini is the fastest/easiest to use, NetFront 3.5 is a close secound except it drags the whole phone to a crawl(processor issues), Opera 8.65 is 3rd but doesn't zoom like mini opera/netfront/WM6.1 IE.
It does replace your current IE, so I haven't tried to uninstall since I have a feeling it will require a hard reset.
Mainly it's slower compared to my older IE. Otherwise it works well with 3G/Wifi. Well here it is I can't find the link where I found it so please don't thank me for the file.
Chris
waiting for this cab too. hope someone can extract it for us.
i can do it if someone tells mw what files i need in the cab
Hi,
Someone the sms software from wm 6.1 extracted?
I do not mean the internet explorer but sms.
Here was once a link, but I think it no more.

I'd love to have this as well.
Or, if anyone can point me to a good free threaded SMS that has no issues on a Hermes, that would work as well.
Have no need for PIE.
Just make a custom WM6.1 ROM and flash it.
If I knew how to do something like that, I might.
I like my phone setup just like it is, minus wanting that app.
The new pie works great
Wicked fast on my sprint touch 6900 thanks to whomever did this...
How do I change the default home back to the touch page?
Thanks in advance

Bump in anticipation that someone has got it.
I tried shogunmark's palm, but I uninstalled it after a few minutes.
guess it's not possible to extract it?

I've only tried it on WM6 pro. I would do a backup and then give it a shot. It should work for you.

Anyone managed to get the threaded sms .cab yet???
Im looking for someone else!!
Thanks guys! (btw, that feature is awesome! (Using it on my Hima WM 6.1!!)
TxtMan is a threaded SMS program for Windows Mobile 5.0+. It sends and receives text messages (SMS) and displays the messages as a conversation, like an instant messenger client. Not much of an eyeCandy though

The att one on the left is the current one I have which is the closest thing but very hard to use while driving and running around, which I got from PhilD41
I just changed the all the buttons to invert when they are pressed down where his only inverted the number and you couldn't see it under your finger while pressing it. If someone can just create one I can skin it myself, I just need a base to put them on. Thanks.
If anyone wants mine Ive attached it, to install just extract to windows directory.ONLY IF YOU HAVE HTC DAILER
you can try DXC's iphone dialpad, any style that's doesn't have a .5 at the end.

(It has severall skins)
Its not great, but it works...
You can get it here:

How do i use this flash dialpad? i have wm2003 and macromedia flash 7 installed but when i dial a number nothing happens...
Sorry, works fine here...
You just need flash 7, dial a number and press the green button...
oh, the EXE exports the data to the storage card, so I guess you need one too...
But i can make a version that exports to a automatic temp folder managed by you system.
hm... i have a storage card and in the temp folder are the files.
I use a german rom wm2003 rom for my magician. There is probably a difference between the folder names: the storage card is called Speicherkarte for example.
Too bad that it isnt working for me
A while ago I made a dialer that is full screen. It has no functionality other than dialing, and only works when installed to main memory...

Inspired by iContact and some SPB Shell theme on XDA developer, i have idea to make the application to look SMS with new look (like iContact to old one). When i installed iContact i feel faster and better than default. so i like to have SMS the same way .
Unfortunaly i am not able to coding or something.. i just can make the photoshop idea of this.maybe someone can make this application to be real
this is just my "idea"

Great idea,
so...
where are the programmers?
Looks nice...
PocketCM Contacts have such an SMS output.
and the thema can be change so that it more look like above
Problem here is, that the SMS are grouped by contact and not by date.
pocketCM is a pain to skin (poorly documented, every version breaks theme compatibility, no support from author), iContact doesn't own sms

You can also check out ExtremeText. That's what I am currently using.
That concept looks really nice!
I tried SMS chat, and it worked fine, but I didn't like it enough to pay 15 bucks for it.
I also want to like PocketCM, but it keeps messing up...it's pretty unstable on my phone.
I really wish someone would make a nice app, I am surprised the local gurus haven't done one yet!
my thoughts too: i like vito smschat its really fast, cool, absolutly fingerfriendly and stable on my system but cost 15 $.
PocketCM is different but also fantastic, but actually i have massive problems in combination with ifonz and wm6.1 so i can´t write sms
So a good sms application for free would be welcome for me, and this in combination with EMAIL sending/writing ! (?)
I remeber there is a alpha version out here for a sms application ?
