XDA II: Assigning different ringtones to different contacts - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Does anyone know if this can be done on the XDA II?

One of the third party software that I used for this purpose is MTUX RintoneX. Have a look at www.mtux.com

Like Chriswo I too use RingToneX to add that missing feature of user assignable ringtones to my XDA II. It's isn't freeware but it does work well and is easy to use.

Any sign of a freeware application to do this simple task alone anyone?

RinTonex
Dear Criswo and Ednap,
to use RinTonex did had to unistall the IA software or can you get the picture from the IA SW and the ring from RinTonex?
Thanks!
Chris
P.S.: also, have you tried other appications for this purpouse? Why do you think that RinTonex is better than the other available...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=522&highlight=

IA Caller ID doesn't need to be uninstall. RingtoneX can work on top of IA Caller ID after all, one sees the numbers and find the matching PHOTO, and the other sees the number and find the matching Ringtone. They can work together.

THANK YOU!!!
WOW!
This is what I wanted to hear!!!
I wasn't sure both SWs could see the caller at the same time!
I undestanding you have used this combination and it worked!
Thanks!
Chris

Exactly like chriswo says, they can work side by side and all OK

does ne 1 have the serial for ringtonex ???

Edit

plz don't post keygens & hacks on this forum.
There are other places for them, and nobody wants to risk the closing of this one.

Time and Place for everything. I am sure we all might know places to get keygens and hacks for various needs.
However, this forum is NOT the place for it. There are other places to post that.
A moderator should remove the postings as soon as possible.
There is no other place even remotely like XDA-Developers. To get it shut down because somebody has no class would be really pathetic.

Give Phonext a try, it is free and does what the OP wants: assign a ringtone to a contact. You'll find it here:

Although the website states it is for PPC2002 it runs on WM2003 on my MDA I.

Ok, sorry

Phonext on my SX56
I can't run the "SetupPhonExt_PPC2002.exe" on my XDA. is it because its the ATT version? I unlocked it by switching to PPC2002 w/ the unlock in the ROm, then reflashing w/ WM2003. I copied the file over, and it can't install. Is there something i'm missing? It says it is not a valid application.

New to the XDA and I'm lost!

Hello all. I now have my XDA2, and I'm finding my way round it ok, but looking for software is like looking for a needle in a hay stack!
What's good? And what sites are good? I know Handango, but that falls under the hay stack category.
What I would really like is some way of customising the O2 Active interface, and the Today screen. Either specific software, or just advice on how to do it if no software is needed.
well it really comes down to what you'd like to use it for
much the same as with pc's
here are some freeware

Yes, you do.
"Customizing" can mean a lot of things. Themes? Phone dialer skins? Or active things like phone logs, status displays, etc? Do you want PIM extenders?
There are a million pieces of software. What do you want?
Okay, my bad
I want a theme editor, which I may already have found with the link you gave me. I also want a way of customizing the buttons on the O2 Active user interface (which I assume all O2 users are enforced to have). At the moment, they are opaque and are designed in the O2 water style. I wanna either make them transparent or redesign them to match my new background. Any clues?
cant claim to know what that active interface is but if it's exclusive o2 then i maybe they dont let others make themes for them
http://www.pdagold.com/themes/list.asp?tp=2
http://www.pdagold.com/themes/
they have some animated stuff themewise here seem to recall seing an editor not sure if it were free though
you are not forced to have anything in your rom
some things can be tuned off in today under settings
most things can be turned of by removing the shortcut to them from
windows\startup
I'm not sure what the "active interface" is, but I think maybe you mean the phone dialer? I don't have an O2 device, so not familiar with that term or its design.
If you mean the dialer, do a search and you'll find the details. Basically that interface is built with a dozen or so seperate .gif files, and you just have to copy in new ones. You can download a number of them, or just make your own. A Google search will surely turn up many. There was once a dialer skin contest, so there should be a lot out there.

It is the same - there's an option in it to set freq dial or index dial.

Howdy VJ - what mods did you have to make to them? SD runs fine on my Wizard btw. If you don't mind I'd like to include it in the next ROM I squeeze together for Cingular folks.
summiter: hey! I did some basic resource hacking and packing, but throw it into anything you can!
I've got some nice Mio apps as well (very nice speed dialler), I'll see if there's anything that might be useful to you.

thx bud you rock!
thanks for the progammes dude
i noticed the frequency dial is not the latest version. any chnace of getting hold of the newest one? :-D
btw, do u have the quick link too? i prefer that over spb pocket plus.
I would like to see if the Eten Call Recognition software would run on a Exec, quite fancy the idea of Gif anim contact pics !

I'll see if I can find a new rom to rip. The Eten stuff typically aimed high but failed to satisfy, much like my own bedroom exploits.
If anyone's got a link to a new rom, could you pm it to me?

V1640 today plugins

Hi.
I want to use the today plugins off the v1640 ROM but on a QTEK ROM - does anyone know which files I need off the Voda ROM to get it working on the QTEK one?
I've had a look but can't spot anything.
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Look at the ext-ROM of this ... ... v1640 ROM and determine (smart guessing) the CAB files that is responsible for the plugin. just copy this over to your phone and install it.
Tried that and not had any success yet - anyone else know?
Just for more info - I've run every single file in the extended_rom of the v1640 on a qtek ROM and these haven't been added.
So the question now is, what kind of files am I looking for in the base rom and how do i register them to appear in the list of possible plugins?
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Just in case anyone is interested, I managed to work out what files and registry entries were needed to get these working on other ROMs.
It would be handy actually to be able to put these in a cab file - are there any idiot's guides for doing this?
In the meantime, if anyone else wants to know, reply to this or PM me
You just list the registry stuff here and the necessary files, someone (or I, if I have the time) to cook up a CAB for you.
BTW, good if you can include a screen shot of this wonderful plugin, to get attention
Sorry, can't do that - the techy in me won't allow me to let someone else do it for me Just give me a name of some software and i'll go and work out the rest ;-)
If it takes me too long, I might give it up though and post 'em ;-)
Ta,
Smiffy.
Could you please post a screenshot of that Today plug-in ? I'm a bit curious as I, for many reasons, switched my SFR/Vodaphone v1640 straight to WWE ROMs when I got ahold of it and I didn't think I might have missed something actually good.
Thanks !
Let's just remember that I never said it was good, just something I wanted in case you're all completely under-whelmed
It's just different plugins for messages and calendat entries and they're icons...maybe I just wanted to be different
Here ya go
And just so you know, despite the plugins and wallpaper, this is the QTEK rom

Thanks for the screen-shot. I wouldn't mind if you posted your manipulations here, too.

Try the googling for `WinCE CAB Manager`

determining reg references in exe/dll

My question of the day.
How does one examine an exe/dll to see what registry items it uses? Is there a tool that can parse them out?
There is a registry monitoring tool (commercial). ZeBoxx used to use it, but I haven't seen him for a while.
http://www.forwardlab.com/ceregspy.htm
You have to speak to the author about getting a WM5 compatible version I think. Let me know if you do.
Otherwise, you use IDA to disassemble it

I use a program called ResHacker.
I haven't got a link, you'll have to Google it.
Oh, forgot to mention that: Of course, it's likely the strings are stored in the exe as ascii or unicode, so you could just use a hexediter or string dumper to do the same. Cheaper then buying IDA!

Hi Vj,
In wm2003se, it was possible to inject a dll in another process and so hacking it. But in wm2005, even if the api that allows to do that is still there, it doesn't work anymore maybe for security reasons...
So I think that's why none of the tools that use this trick have been updated to wm2k5.
So as you said, disassembling is the best option we have...
Cheers,
.Fred
.Fred, the registry monitoring tool has been made comptabile with wm5, Zeboxx used it in analysing the basehue information (VJBaseHue). However, he had to speak to the author to get it aparantly. I can't confirm, just reporting what I was told.

This is great news, I wonder how he did it. Is it possible to get the wm5 version, to see what/how he does?
Thanks,

Unfortunately, I never got speak to ZeBoxx in detail about, and I haven't seen him on the board for months. He took his sabatical at the same time as me!
Try contacting the author of the app to see if it's true... I'll be interested in buying it if it is available.

iPhone theme -very easy to install/use and most important download :)

I don't know if I am breaking any laws of this forum - if so, I would ask moderators and admins to delete this post ASAP.
I am not inventor or maker of this - I just found it somewhere on the internet and figured to share with my Wizard family here.
It shows very good iPhone look a like skin...
Try it out for yourself and let us know what was your experience.

First scrshot is main screen - then I have installed iPhone dialpad and PocketCM contact manager - I have included all three. I couldn't get scrshot of Slide unlock thing but you know how it looks on iPhone.

Not sure I understand what this thread is all about? It seems to have been posted today (or have I got this wrong?) but points to software which has been being used for months and referred to in various threads?
Is there something I am missing here or have you actually published an .ini file somewhere which lets users use all those icons (by pointing the iTunes icon to windows media player etc)? Or have you managed to get the sking to run on start up or have you managed to get the slider to hog less memory?
Please tell us what is going on in this thread!
