Modem tethering with Windows Vista - XV6700, PPC-6700 General

Hello all,
I'm having a problem with Windows Vista...I can't install my PPC-6700 as a usb modem. Oddly, this worked on older beta builds of Vista, but no longer works. When I plug the phone into the computer with wmodem running, the device is identified as a generic serial device. when I point vista to the driver .inf file, install begins but then craps out with the error cannot find file. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
MJB

Found a solution. Download the attached inf file to use with Windows Vista. It has been altered from the original version.
Best,
MJB

CDMA_USB_Driver works
I just tried the CDMA_USB_Driver with my T-Mobile MDA on Vista Business and it works just fine. With the other versions of the usb modem drivers I had also been getting the "file not found" error but this one work just fine

its offical this driver does work for vista whereas the original did not. Why my BT card comes in i will probably use that since from what i read it works better than usb in vista but for now this will be fine

Running into the same problems, Might sound crazy but where do I put the *.inf file?
Also, is there a new file to upload to the phone to get it to work?
Thanks.

Mine works fine with Vista Ultimate. In order to get it to work, make sure that you have no bangs in device manager. Connect the phone to the computer and it should detect it as new hardware. Once the new hardware wizard comes up point it to the usb file. It should install the modem after that. Once that is completed go into network connections and setup a dial up connection for the phone. Use #777 as the number to dial. that way when you start the usb modem on your phone, you connect to your system. Click on connect to, and then dial. It should connect without any issues..also if you do not already have it, download and install windows mobile device center for vista. This is the new app that is replacing active sync. Once installed it will recognize and sync with your phone

Is there any charges for this if you have the unlimited data plan?

Generic RNDIS Drivers not found & other Problems

Hello,
Just upgraded my 8525 to the latest and greatest ROM. Well ... greatest should really be within quotes!!!
I'm having 2 problems ...
#1) I cannot use my phone thru DUN. I select Internet Sharing. Disable ActiveSync on my PC. Select PC Connection as USB and Network Connection as My ISP GPRS. When I connect the USB cable, I immediately get a message box that New Hardware has been found (Generic RNDIS). Windows (XP-SP2) then prompts me to install the drivers. I click Next but it does not find them and throws an error that Drivers could not be found. I've searched the internet and HTC sites in vain, but cannot find anything that helps.
#2) When I connect my device using ActiveSync (4.5), I cannot get the device to use ActiveSync as a pass-thru for the internet. This results in any calls made to the internet to fail.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm back on the road on Tuesday and need to get this resolved.
Thanks

Mike,
I had tried that earlier today but it did not work. I unzipped the file and pointed the "Find New Hardware" wizard to that directory location. When I click Next it searches and finally returns with "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software".
I'm confused. Aren't the Remote NDIS drivers part of the ActiveSync install? What am I missing here?

I have exactly the same problem, and I still didn't find any solution
I have exactly the same problem, and I still didn't find any solution
I also have the same Problem but a different situation
I would like to tether with my phone which I can do with no problem on most computers. However I have a corporate laptop that I cannot install activesynch on...So i just need the driver to install when I connect my phone via USB.
So i get the same error as the guys above me...so any fix to this problem that does not involve installing activesync would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance

Hi everybody,
Yesterday I had the same problem, but I resolved it.
First, install Activesync 4.5.
Second, when you plug your device and it ask you for the driver generic RNDIS driver, you can choose the place of this driver (don't choose automatic).
So point the "Find New Hardware" wizard to that directory location :
C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Drivers
Then Ok (or next I don't remember)! After windows'd install alone the good driver.
Enjoy your synchronization!
Bye bye
Upgrade ActiveSync

When I used ActiveSync 3.7, this version can not recognize Generic RNDIS. I’d upgrade this version into ActiveSync 4.5, its work.

Generic RNDIS Error for Windows 2003
Hi Guys,
I am also facing the same problem but I am using windows 2003 server.
I am using HTC Touch phone. Please help me out with some solutions.
Thanks

I had this same problem with my HTC Touch Cruise. Here's what solved it:
Go to Settings > Connections > USB to PC
Uncheck Enable advanced network functionality
Then the computer sees your mobile and sync begins (at least for me).
Something worth trying...
If you look at the driver settings for "Windows Mobile Device" under WinXP it shows a file called:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\rndismpx.sys
I'm wondering if the rndismpx.sys file is all one needs to use to install the driver so that WinXP will see the WM phone as a viable device and therefore allow you to use it's Internet Connection Sharing function to give the PC a data connection to the net?

Ok I too had this problem, and refuse to use active sync as it always muck up my special clock settings. This is what fixed it for me.
As i DO have active sync installed on my desktop system, and taking the advice of the persom who posted above, i just copied the "DRIVERS" folder onto a disk (From \Programme files\Microsoft Activesync), took that to the laptop i needed to install on, and installed the driver manually, pointing to the DRIVERS folder on th CD i just made. All installed, and "Pinging" nicely!

Yep, that did the trick for me. And this was after spending two hours on live chat with AT&T which was useless.
Thanks. Who knows how long I would have been dinking along looking for a clue.

If you're having problems syncing with Windows 7 RC1, try the steps in this article.

This wasn't even the least bit helpful.
The article just tells you to install ActiveSync or WMDC.

Cant connect to AS 4.5

First of all i really want to thank all the Helmi_c and all the developers; My BA is most updated running wm6.
Well much better than wm5 but I have some issues:
1. cant sync it with my PC in anyways (BT, usb etc), USB drivers are not working correctly.
2. sometimes when i pick or dial a call, i cant hear nething.
and last but not relevant to this, guys how do i stop my BA slider from falling down when I use keyboard.
1. Try delete the actual partnership in AS, sync again; if not reinstall AS on PC
2. No problem here with the sound.
same problem here
I upgraded my XDA2s, customized it,backedup, then upgraded my brothers XDA2s and used my customized backup on his XDA2s.
Now my XDA connects fine, but his doesn't !!!
Both our XDa2s's are identical in everyway.
tried a hard reset and restore from another backup and still no luck!
we were trying to save time re-installing the same softwares.
tried deleting partnerships, no luck. tried spb backup and clone, no luck.
any ideas!
Do you get any error messages on AS? Can you browse the internet from device?
usb drivers
can anybody post usb drivers i think this is the problem cause my device isnt installed properly it says problem with inf file.
whoever is able to connect his device to xp desktop via active sync usb connection, please copy the drivers folder contents from program files in active sync folder.
thanks, hope this works
Is your windows firewall enabled? Since WM6 activesync makes use of a LAN connection to sync with the PC, you must allow activesync trough the windows XP firewall, or disable the windows XP firewall completely...
no sound problems with me...
did you try to install WM6_SoundFix_.cab ?

vista don't recognize hermes

Please note that with the "old" notebock, with vista too, i have use the Hermes without problem.
Just connect via usb and all works fine.
Now with the new notebock (same os (wm6.0 in ppc, and vista home in the notebock)) i have problems.
Vista dont recognize hermes.
so i cant connect ppc to notebock.
Some ona have idea how can i do a connection and a sync with vista.
Ps
i have install the wmdc but dosent works.
Please help.
pps
i have try to unceck enable advanced network funcionality, but when i do this i receive this error:
Fallied to disable RNDIS to use serial.
nobody can help me?
Damn
im going be crazy.
if i use internet sharing and conect the pda with notebook all works fine.
Pc find the rnids device and i can go to internet.
But if i try to sync the pc dont reconize the ppc...
welcom to the VISTA world
I've had nothing but issues with Vista and WM6 on my Hermes.
The few things I can suggest.
1) As you say Disable the Advanced networking....
2) Connect directly to a USB port, not through a hub.
3) Try soft-resetting your phone between connection attempts.
4) Remove associations between Vista and your phone.
I find that the first time I connect it everything's good, but on subsequent attempts it's hit and miss.
If you are using vista, there's an update for Windows Mobile software on the microsoft website.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx
you need to install 6.1 for it in order for WM6 to work with vista.
Cheers

If he is using the same version of WM Device center on both computers and i am assuming he is, then i doubt it will fix the problem by downloading the latest version as i have that version installed on both my pc's.
I had the same problem, where windows just detected the device as an unknown device and therefore wouldnt let me sync.
right click on my computer and click manage, then plug in your device and see if you have any unknown devices appearing if you do right click on it and click uninstall then unplug the device and wait 10 seconds then plug it back in, this solved it for me. Although i still have to do this every so often. But at least it allows me to sync with both my pc's

Internet Sharing without ActiveSync

I have used Internet Sharing on my 8525 with my laptop.
I want to use it with my work PC but I am not allowed to install the ActiveSync software at work.
What file/driver is needed to get my PC to recognize the phone as a USB modem so that I can avoid installing ActiveSync?
I imagine there is a driver file for the USB Modem portion.
Following another thread there was a zip file with the WModem app and an INF file for the USB Modem but this does not seem to work with my phone.
I am using the AT&T WM6 release.
Anybody? I suspect I just need an inf file but cannot find any threads talking about this situation.
Thanks.

Modem Link Driver for Wizard?!?!

Hello,
I tried to run the Modem Link application in the program files folder in my HTC Wizard (imate kJam) but when I connect it via USB, it asks for a driver, I wonder where can I get the drivers for that?
Currently I am using Bluetooth to connect to GPRS (i-e use GPRS on my computer) but I think connecting via USB might speed it up.
Please help, thank you.
yeah. the driver is inside the installation cd that came w/your phone. You can also find there a modem dialer program.
