Remove GPRS Notification Icon - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hello,
I recall coming across a post somewhere on how to remove the notification icon for GPRS that shows signal strength, connection status etc. I need to be able to do this without disabling GPRS. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Does anyone know how to do this?
This would be for PPC4 and PPC5.

I know a way to customise or to hide it, but it's a bit intensive right now.
I'm working on a tool to make it a bit easier.

I think another way might be to resource hack Phcanoverbmp (at least on the Hermes). But that won't work on all devices.
Why do you need to do this?
V

Why I need to do that.
I have an application that replaces its functionality with proprietary authentication mechanisms, VPN and other stuff related to network access for a VoIP app. A common complaint is that users still use the built in stuff thinking they are connecting to the network when in reality they are not. I don't want the built in stuff to get in the way presenting a network that the user really shouldn't be connecting to.

If you're app replaces it's functionality, why not just make your own window/icon, and map it into the titlebar yourself, thereby negating the OS G icon completely?
V

Can't hack
I have my own notification icon. Hacking into the titlebar by adding a child window etc. isn't an option. We tried and it caused problems with other applications on the device. No amount of begging will change that requirement.
I know there's a way to just remove it without covering it. I remember the post and I remember trying it a while back but I can't find the post and don't remember how it was done.

How-to change "Wireless"-item in Todayscreen

Hi all,
I have the new "Wireless"-item switched on, as I actually like it. But
my own today-screen background is quite "white" and the Blueetooth sign is almost invisible now :

}
Does anybody have a clue if the color of the bluetooth sign can be changed. Or is it available somewhere as a file, so I can change it for myself ?
Edited : I found a file "bluetooth.bmp" in the windows directory, which might be the one used, but it is a two color bitmap, so even if I could change it, I would still see nothing on a white background.
Anybody any clue ?

Ruud
Hello, is it possible for us to find this Wireless today screen plugin? From what I see it is part of tthe ROM you installed, could we find it as a cab file perhaps and install it in Qtek ROMS?
Hi Mythozz,
I know the following :
-it was not available in older ROM's (it is in the latest iMate ROM f.e.)
-it is not installed by the ExtRom, as I do not have it installed at all
-it can be disabled by ExtRom, as some other threads here have explained
In those threads the reg-hacks are told to place it back on the TodayScreen. But I guess it is not so easy to give You a .cab
After I saw what Member (ey99070) was able to do with the Date, by disconnecting it, and making a new one called TodayTime, saving space, I guess somebody will come with a new one here as well, showing in less space the status of the WiFi, the Bluetooth and maybe even something else.
Sorry for not being able to provide a .cab. Maybe somebody else has better information and can help You out.
Regards
Ruud

Engineer Menu

Hey Folks,
No idea if this has already been brought up yet (since you cant search *,#,etc!)
But I found this whilst rummaging through the registry.
*#*#364#*#*
(Located in HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\EngineerMode you may ned to set "BuildInEngineeringModeApp" to 1 first)
I look forward to finding more stuff on my new wizard

Maybe this will get added to the wiki.

All that key sequence does is launch a program; GSMTestMode.exe
it's in the \Windows\ folder. You can launch it right from there.
What's GSMTestMode.exe? Does it run on the Blue Angel? Is it worth having (show more detailed signal strength for network testing or something)?
Just a bunch of useless mumbo jumbo IMO

Is there a version of this that works with the Blue Angel radio?
Sometimes, some of this is useful (there was a version that I had on an old Nokia with similar information). Stuff such as knowing whether you can access the same network cell in different places, getting the exact signal strength (eg. for testing which network you should go with when choosing a new flat), Network Operator IDs (rather than just the name) etc.
I would assume that this sort of program would be specific to the radio hardware, wouldn't it?

Big icons at home screen

Recently I updated to WM 6.1, so I have to reconfigure my device. Now I can't remember where I can turn off the menu with the big icons depicted at the bottom of my post. I find it really annoying to have an extra window pop up, since most of the time I click the right icon and don't need bigger ones.
I've already gone through all of the settings, but can't find the option to turn it off, though I know it's possible to! Any help is appreciated, I'm sure someone knows.

What about "TouchFlo" at Start - Settings - System?

If you have large start menu enabled then this is also part of it. I don't know if you can turn it off individually.
It can be disabled by deleting few keys in registry.
1)HKLM/Software/HTC/EnlargeTitleBar (Or something like that)
2)HKLM/Services/Largetitlebat (Or something like that)

o2 Germany "Home Zone" display for X1?

Hi Guys!
On the german o2 Network there's a "home zone" with some contracts (like mine). Upon registration you can designate a "home address" and while near that geographic location you get special rates for calls and other services.
On most phones a little icon appears in the status bar while in that "home zone" to let you know which rates apply at the moment.
I use o2, but own an unbranded phone. Does anyone know if this feature is also available for the X1? Is there maybe a program providing that functionality in the original ROMs of the o2-branded phones?
I know it wasn't available for the HTC universal due to hardware limitations, but it is supposedly available on the Touch Diamond
If anyone has ths app (as a cab or whatever) an upload would be greatly appreciated, since o2 doesn't offer support on 3rd-party-phones
Hi!
Have you already looked at your "phone-app"? On my X1 it looks like that, if I'm in my homezone:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
But I have a o2-ROM, so maybe there is a cab-file in my windows-directory, which will install this icon. Do you have an idea, what the name of this file could be?
Chris
something with "HZS", "o2", "home", "service", ... I would be interested in this as well
The only interesting file, I've found is "HZService.dll" which is directly in the "Windows"-directory...
Would it help, if I upload this file?
Chris
The DLL and installing it as a service is one thing, the corresponding registry keys the other. Plus maybe he needs some other things to modify as e.g. in Touch Pro you need another script file for the home screen. But maybe you could collect the registry entries for him so he can try without changing anything else to see if it works.

Take the cab and then works

2/3 G signal strength

Is it possible to get the mobile signal strength on GT 7.7
I had try lots of ways but can't successful.
What you mean "get"? To get it as a function in your own app's code or just you want to see it?
Turn off WiFi and you'll see strength bars in notification popup (on the place where you usually see WiFi signal bars).
There are plenty of apps like this one that display signal info:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cellsignaltester.moby
You can also get that in the About page of the device settings. What exactly are you after?
nooooo, use this one instead, this Widget is better

It's all the same data obtained from the phone. A widget tends to suck battery and performance so that's why I recommended a simpler app. Since there are a ton of them, it's really incumbent on the end user to decide what they like.
All of that apps doesn't work on SGS2/Tab7.7 (Exynos-based chipsets).
No, they work (run), but unable to show correct signal level due to a "bug" in modem FW. They always show +85dbm. So the only way to see correct signal strength is the system signal meter in statusbar.
Any way to update the modem driver to fix the Bug ?

Don't think so. Samsung does not care about it - still not fixed even on SGS2, which is already on the market for a long time. Maybe it will be fixed with ICS release, nobody knows.
