Or maybe some elaborate Photoshopped hoax
HTC needs to sort out its sales and support strategy in North America pronto!

You might find more up-to-date info on the JasJam on http://www.imateforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=673&page=4 -- that site specializes in Imate devices.

Taiwanese company that makes the Wallaby and the Himalaya, as well many other of the current PDAs. Very good at making devices, not very good at supporting their devices after they're built.
why do you say so?... have some bad experiences?
IMHO, HTC not sold their devices direct to users, but to vendors like O2, Dopod, iMate, etc. so the one who will support or service users is vendor. and the one who support vendors is HTC. CMIIW...

Taiwanese is Chinese
(Mod edit: Don't go there on this board.)
Not sure if this is going to be implemented on the new forums, but the point of the encyclopedia is that when the subject word appears on the forums it can be clicked to show a 'definition'.
the definition is the last post in the thread SO DONT CHATTER ABOUT IT HERE.
If you have something to add/change copy what the old definition said into your post and then change that.

HTC - High Tech Corp
named HTC after the founder - H.T. Cho, recently acquired all Dopod subsidary in South East Asia
Note that Dopod is HTC's own brand in East Asian countries, not acquired.

HTC has its own-brand devices in China(including mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau), Singapore and other East Asian countries named Dopod.

Can't Register Clubimate

Hey all.
recently got my XDA II mini and while trying to register at clubimate i get an error saying my IMEI is wrong.
clubimate supprt says i need to check with distributor (friend bought it in Thailand while on a trip before the tzunami so its not possible).
did anyone else came across this problem?
what can i do?
Thanks ahead...
I think that they mean that for support you need to go back to your distributor or sales outlet. The reason why your IMEI is not accepted is probably because it's an XDA Mini IMEI, and not an i-Mate JAM IMEI. DO not forget that the IMEI identifies the device al the way down to the company that sells them, in your case O2 (XDA), in other cases T-Mobile (MDA Compact) or Qtek (100s). They just limit access to iMate support to real iMate devices.
To be honest, I am not suprised, and actually I don't disagree with their policy. On clubimate they support devices that they have sold, not devices that have been sold by other companies. When I still had my MDA compact, I could not register at Club Imate either, but when I bought a real JAM, I could.
i actually do have an XDA2Mini.. not an imate device.
therefor, where can i get support? (updates/patch/whatever)
Thanks ahead...

Doesnt really say much hey!!!
mm Like lot of people I was expecting this price http://x.msmobiles.com/portal/images/o2/xda-exec-4-big.jpg ( £229 max ) and not £399 (I even have the catalogue in front of me it's not a fake.. and asked several without answer during the chat
Second things that I tried to get the price spec through o2.co.uk/xda has advertised ( redirection to http://www.my-xda.com/ ) and no trace of the exec and http://shop.o2.co.uk/cgi-bin/o2uk/j...set.do?pageMode=null&manufacturer=o2&x=13&y=2 doesn't have any trace of the exec too.
I participate to the chat ( and been logout during the chat by the flash application - irc would have been better for that but it worked otherwise so.. ) ;
The software should have a signature but could be installed if forced. I guess that orange UK will give the price of the same device before 3rd of October.
And TG has well played the game because he got a HTC for free lucky you
And why did you tell that USB HOST was working the 02 guy has by several times said that it wasn't active and didn't even know from where the rumor is from ...
Few questions has been asked without answer like the quality of the graphic card and such.
I think the XDA exec seems to be really good but was expecting it cheaper ( wasn't expected to have a £35-40/months contract for 12 months too ) I might wait december to get an upgraded pack or similar + cheaper (hope soo)

Buying Tytn in Asia

Since HTC manufactures the Tytn and it is a company based in Taiwan, would anybody know if it is available there?
How about the rest of Asia? any idea if it will be sold here? Thanks
You can buy it under the name "Dopod 838 Pro" from www.dopodasia.com, a HTC company
PS: I am always frustrated with the dutyfree prices in Asia, FYI and compare I paid 567 euros for mine, with 16% VAT and without contract (from www.gethandy.de ). Was recently at Taipei airport, forget about finding any Taiwanese electronic products there...
Thanks, for the information. Went to www.dopodasia.com/dopod and it is only available in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Unfortunately, no Philippines.
Would you know what ROM they use?

They use the dopod rom, it's available on the wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
Buy the Dopod CHT 9000 (From Taiwan or other import sources) and flash it to the English ROM. Mine is working perfectly so far.

Can you give me the website for the CHT 9000? Is it available in store in Taiwan? Thanks
Im sure you can find stores in Phil importing the TyTn. If not you can easily get a dopod asia from an online store from Singapore. Im in Hong Kong and i got mine that way.
For the record
CHT9000 is the Chunghwa Telecom branded version of the Dopod 838 Pro for Taiwan only.
Just browsing the net comparing the Trion and the Tytn (Dopod CHT 9000). Wow! There is a lot of difference in terms of design. The trion is much sleeker.

sir musta po?
it was actually the trion that lured me into the hermes craze but it's only been available in Germany and nowhere else apart from a few importers. i've got the m3100 instead.
in case you're not aware yet, there are 3 versions of the hermes, which all seem to be very identical apart from few visual differences and key layout
Hermes100 - SPV M3100, XDA Trion, Dopod 838pro, Imate Jasjam, Qtek9600
Hermes200 - HTC Tytn, Vodafone v1605, CHT 9000
Hermes300 - MDA Vario II
i'm not sure if its available in Phils yet (incl the grey markets) so best way to get one buy abroad. where are you based anyway? Canada?
i hope i got it right with the versions above, and hope this helps you.

Buying the i-mate version of the MTeoR would be attactive for me, as it includes Videotelephony contrary to the HTC version (though WLAN is not built-in, which is the main reason, why I did not exchange my Qtek 8300 against the follower model - the MTeor isn't that cheap and one could expect WLAN - and also a much better cam, not just 1.3mpx).
However how to REALLY cheaply get hands on the i-mate make - SP JAS or how they call it ?
I simply do not know.
Though boasting on their homepage that they are somewhat a leader in smartphones you can only find their address in Dubai and not even other distributing partners or retailers.
I wouldn't go to Dubai just to buy an i-mate...
I know that dealers on Tottenham Ct. Rd. also have i-mate devices on stock, but England isn't really a cheap place to buy.
So only possibility would be to import one either from outside Europe (disadvantage: high import tax into the EU, relatively long handling period, problems with RMP) or the UK (disadvantage: no low retail proce).
None of these options is a good choice for me.

of course, the Qtek9600
thanks for the heads-up
you probably want to buy it in Taiwan from Chunghwa telecom. Just go to a local Chunghwa Telecom Location and they will likely have it.
I actually have an xda mini s and thinking of upgrading to a trion. Since I couldn't find it in Asia, where I'm based, I sought out the best alternative.
Right now, seems like the Dopod 838Pro (same as the CHT 9000). But still prefer the sleeker design of the Trion.
Both phones have the same features and functions, right?
HTC is making all of them, so the only difference is the cases of the different brands the Hermes/Tytn is sold under. An exception is the Cingular 8525 in the US, where Cingular requested from HTC to omit the videocam. And the voice command button on the left side is replaced by a PTT button (for Push to talk, not standard on WM5).
Anyone have any ida if the O2 Xa Trion will ever be sld in Asia?

HTC Signs Acquisition Agreement with Dopod International

This news is from here:
http://www.dopodasia.com/global/news/20070508_corporate.html
"Microsoft® Windows Mobile® smart handheld devices, announced today that it has signed an acquisition agreement with Dopod International, one of the leading PDA Phone and smartphone distributors in Asia, to purchase the assets of nine Dopod subsidiaries, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand, India, and Philippines.
The acquisition agreement, still subject to shareholder approval, was approved by HTC's Board of Directors on May 8, 2007, values the assets of Dopod International's subsidiaries at the sum of Dopod International's adjusted net worth at the end of second quarter of 2007, certified by CPA as of June 30, 2007. The transfer of all assets will become effective on July 1, 2007. HTC estimates that the sum will not exceed USD $14.5 million dollars. The combined marketing, sales, and service capabilities of both companies will strengthen HTC's position within the Asian market, providing consumers in the region with a comprehensive range of mobile devices and services. To maximize the synergies of the acquisition and to implement new joint business initiatives, Dopod International's entire workforce will be expected to join HTC. Dopod's vast, accumulated experience in the retail market will benefit HTC as HTC expands its brand presence in the future.
After the acquisition, HTC will unify the products under a single global brand. In the future, all of HTC's new products will be marketed under the HTC brand. However, Dopod International's current on-the-market products will still be sold under the Dopod brand name. Furthermore, to provide first-class service to existing Dopod customers, HTC will offer after-sales support to consumers who purchased products before the acquisition."
Will this effect us who bought Dopod product before acquisition? Or we can still our guarantee for our product?
Any one know? (wu usually you know much about dopod)
Thanks...
Yes of course there is still full support/guarantee.

they have been wanted to do this for years, finally it's done. DOPOD was originally for Asia Market only, and HTC is for Europe Market, now there is just one global brand call HTC.
DOPOD and HTC are own by the same person in the first hand anyway, all the people who work for DOPOD will merge with HTC, therefore all the technician will remind too. Which is a good news for people who bought HTC X7500, DOPOD usually provide a better ROM. In turns of service and support, DOPOD owner don't need to worry, it will be carry on from HTC ( The Asian market is still handle under DOPOD people, it just they are call HTC now).
So in conclusion, both HTC X7500 and DOPOD U1000 benefit on this , and the amount of support we will get increase. Now we just need to hope HTC made the right decision on taking the path of brand building, as you might know, HTC used to manufacture most of the PDA before (for HP and Dell...etc). But because HTC decide to start selling it's own device, this make HP and Dell unhappy, so they start pulling out and ask other people to manufacture their device. A risky road for HTC but if they want to grow big, this is the only way, they want to be the next Nokia.
Anyway, DOPOD is working on WM6 update for DOPOD U1000 already, haven't heard anything from HTC yet, but it's quite likely DOPOD will also handle the HTC WM6 update. Afterall, they are really the same.
Thanks... for the reply...
Hope the dopod indonesia will going better to ...

yes, that right, there is no real reason for the processor they use, sometimes it's due to the amount of stock they have for each processor.
