I was just wondering what is the average time of battery life on your wing..mines is currently about 10 hours idle but while im using it that goes down to about 5 or 4 i just wanted to know what is the average before i call t-mobile and ask for a new battery.
A few of us here have been having problems with the battery actually. When I first got the phone, I left it clean and stock. I would do a lot of texting, make a couple phone calls, and play a few games here and there. From 7am to 1am, I would go from 100% to about 54% (18 hours of usage). Now, if I leave my phone idle for 2 hours, my battery drops down from 100% to 80%... I can't even go a full day without needing to charge the darn thing. 200 hour idle time my arse!
But personally, I don't think it's a problem with the battery... The phone is doing something in the background which is causing a massive battery drain. Right now, I'm testing my phone to see if I still suffer the same drain while in flight mode. I'll post the results HERE in about an hour from now.
The longest the battery can last is 1 week...

the more features you use, the more power it'll consume.. if you do a lot of internet browsing, I believe I saw GPRS Data connections use more power then WiFi.. so use wifi when available ...
also, be sure to regularly check your phone's task manager before setting it aside for long periods of time... sometimes it can be hard to notice the camera, text/mms, calender, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, are all running in the background while you're at the home screen...
My wing usually lasts me from unplug at 8am until plugin at midnight... power usage always varies a lot as... as you can tell.. the data connections use a lot of power... and if wifi isn't available, it uses at least 30% more power doing a GPRS Transfer -- based on the initial information i've read about the issue.

I noticed Bluetooth and WiFi taking more battery than GPRS
As long as I plug it in while I am at work to a USB cable, I don't seem to have any battery problems. I use GPRS and SMS constantly.
I spend the whole day on the phone ... between texting and I receive all my work email directly to my phone... so I'm on it various times during the hour... and it seems the battery drain is huge.
all I have done is turn the screen brightness down whenever I'm not using it, and have the dynamic overclocking on, so the processor goes down whenever its not in use ... but I still think the battery drain on the wing is ridiculous.

Im clocked at 247mhz, i can make it last about 24 hours using it here and there. calls about once a hour for 5 min or less, texting through the day, and occasional wifi use. at stock clock speeds, it lasted about a day and a half, but it all depends how much you use it
At 1st i thought the battery darin was rediculous as well but when u think about it when u use it the battery goes down about 8 times as fast( depensing on what ur actually doing w/ it.
Now i charge it at night and go to school with fully loaded battery 6AM, i text all the time and when i get home its around 85% 2:30PM, use it occasionally and at the end of the day after at least 3 hours of talk time its on around 30-20% i could last w/o charging it but i charge it overnight to full, with NORMAL use and not talking for about 4 hours per day so far its lasted 4 days for me. could have made it to 6 but i wanted to showoof my new phone to my friend
so battery life is not that bad just depends how much u use it, Also if ur listening to music just turn off the screen and thats a REAL battery saver. also press the power button when on the phone and etc.
Wing Battery Drain
I have improved my Wing battery drain by doing the following...
- Turn off the automatic weather update on the Today Plug-in
- Check my emails manually (do send receive when I am ready to read)
- Suspend device when not in use - need to use device lock app.
- Update ROM to PDA Viet v 14 (thanks to easy instructions from David)
With the new ROM and the device locked - even the accidental press of any of the face buttons (when phone is in pocket) turns the device back on - even though the screen remains locked (due the Device lock app). Is there any way to suspend the device completely so can only be turned on by hitting the power button only? I would still want to receive / answer calls etc. without having to hit the power button....
Go to settings, Lock ... and there is an option to lock all buttons except the power button when device is powered down.
I am trying to fix my sisters Wing (I have a Wizard). I have tried disabling background programs, as well as setting things to be more gentle on power usage, and still she loses battery like crazy. I know the Wizard had some battery drain issues with certain WM6 cooked roms, and a cab fix helped. Does anyone have a cab fix for the Wing? Also, reading in this forum section, it seems that the Wing doesn't always disable background programs. Would you suggest a third party task manager to "pick up the slack" or does it not matter, due to the nature of the winged beast?
I appreciate any suggestions. While I am new to the Herald, I am "old hat" on the Wizard, so I do have a general understanding of how the HTC devices work.

I have read a lot of bad stuff about battery life with every rom except the OME t-mo. I had the PDA viet and battery life was terrible, With the stock rom it is at least 4x longer.
hello ive the same problem with the last 4 wings ive and ever since ive switch from the stock Tmo OS and upgraded to the TouchFlo OS, Ive noticed a huge differnce with the battery life even overclocked
If your will to taking the risk ide say go for it, i jus started messing around with rom and i got say its a big improvment from the original wing which i was ready to throw against a wall!!
I have Touch Flo on my Wing, and if I charge it to capacity I usually only need to do so it every other day so long as I don't play any NES games on it. I keep the wifi off if I'm not using it of course. I have it dynamically stepping the CPU in a range from 100mhz to 234mhz. It really seems to help extend the battery for me, while still giving it the tiny extra kick it needs to run nes and sms games.
My wife has the official wm6 rom on hers, but is also dynamically overclocked as mine is. She needs to charge hers nightly, BUT she also plays solitaire and bubble breaker daily.
Overall it's on par for battery life with my prior motorola phone, which I never used for anything but regular phone calls. With that in mind I'm not necessarily impressed, but am definitely content with it.
I've had HORRIBLE battery life and AWESOME battery life, all within the same week. lol
There was a problem I had at one time, where filesys.exe would take over all the CPU and kill my battery.
Here's what I do, though.
Dynamic overclocking/underclocking
Turn off GPRS when not in use
Disable Push Mail
Turn off WIFI and Bluetooth
Turn the screen brightness down
Turn off the screen altogether, even when on a call, unless you need to see what's on it
There's a few tweaks out there that deal with enabling the power saving features on L2TP and stuff...

I've had my wing about a week now and have a question concerning battery usage.
It has always been my understanding that batteries will develop a "memory" if you charge and recharge them under their full charge capacity.
i.e. if you use it down to 60% and then charge it to 100% it will remember that and not use the full original 100% charge. obviously over time not just from a single "half charge" like that.
So since every time you connect it to USB to sync it begins the charging process, won't that wear down the battery and make it develop such a memory?
Is their anyway to connect to to the PC without having it charge?
I have always preferred to have any mobile device drain it's battery to nearly empty before recharging to try and minimize the memory effect.

Today's lithium ion batteries do not develop this like older rechargable batteries. You can plug your phone in at any time without worrying about losing battery capacity!

I listen to Streaming Radio with my Wing at work all day. I get approximately 4 hours of listening time before I have to swap out with another fully charged battery.
I use PBar to shut off the screen while listening.
I'm running the touch rom without the actual touch. I can't remember which one it is. I spend at least an hour a day gaming (text twist, random solitaires) on it. I usually hit up the web a few times a day for 10 minutes a shot. I use it as an ebook reader. I send txts constantly. I talk about half an hour a day. All this leaves me with about 30% - 50% of my battery by day's end. Now, if I turn on bluetooth all day it will end up around 18%. Wifi is such an evil power hog I never turn it on, EDGE is fast enough for me. I charge my every night under my pillow (it's my alarm too). Battery life has been the same since I got it about 6 months ago.
Edited to add: I also do some dynamic underclocking for things that don't need a huge amount of power, like my budget program, etc.

I have bought touch 3452 3-4 days back... what i observe is battery drains off quickly. if i charge at night and listen music for an hour in morning, battery drains from 100% to 70%. with 2-3 calls and little operations, till afternoon, it discharges to 55%....
Is this the problem with 3452 or only for my piece... anybody facing same problem???

After i send my Elf for repair to my guarantee they keep my battery for 4 weeks discharged! Now my Battery has not even 25% of the power it had before It needs very long to charge at 100% but after listening music for an hour its almost empty!

when did face battery problem?? just after repair or even before it also???
My cell is 3-4 days old, so for a new phone, it could be quite unlikely problem !!!! thinking of getting piece replaced (though chances are close to 0%)
My battery was fine and quite reliably before... I guess you judge a bit to quick about your new battery! Charge it at 100% and discharge it to about 10% and repeat that procedure for about a week! A brand new battery has not the full capacity at start and needs some cycles to get "in life"...

as sercio said above, use the battery to its lowest level (before reaching the yellow line), turn it off, then recharge it.
do this procedure about 5 times, then your battery will be fine.
but dont worry, it's a normal thing.
battery really discharges very fast when listening to music, or using bluetooth or wi-fi.
Also make sure that when you are closing apps that you are really closing them and not letting them run in the background. The task manager is set up as default to only minimize when you tap the X - Go into your task manager settings and change this to close on X or make sure that you go into your task manager and really close all applications that you don't need running anymore.
You might want to adjust your backlight settings as well to save on power
Some applications are heavier on battery then others as well. Check and see how each application uses battery. I know from what I have been using that some applications use the battery really heavily so much that even using for 5 minutes will drain 10% of the battery. Be careful with what you use on your device. WIFI also uses a lot of battery; however, you can adjust this as well under WIFI settings - You get less performance from your WIFI by doing this though. When listening to music - if you don't need the backlight on - then let it shut off. S2P automatically turns backlight off after a bit - TCPMP = you can set the backlight off manually and still use the hard keys to switch songs and play with volume - You can map the hadware keys manually.

i hav set option of closing apps to 'close on X'.
also i dont use wifi n bluetooth.
I listen music using TCPMP.. i dont know if TCPMP is consuming more power...
yesterday i barely listened to music for 1 hour... then was browsing thru MS excel and calendar... still battery drained to 10 %
as suggested by other folk (above), i hav done this cycle of 100% to 10% n charge again 4 times already...
still wondering if i start using wifi, how soon it will discharge.. !!!!
I m planning to go to shop where i bought it from (CHROMA, tata enterprise) to ask for this prob.... but i m sure he will turn down any request regarding replacing battery
if draining battery is common problem with all PDA-touchscreens (and not only with my piece), then i shud better keep quiet and keep charging it frequently..

If I was to only do what you say you are doing - I would only loose maybe a little bit of battery life - like one hour a music using TCPMP or S2P are all roughly the same - might be about 5% loss of battery - as long as I turn off the backlight. Watching a half hour episode of southpark using TCPMP usually drains about 6% of the battery for me. When I leave my phone in Standby - I can leave it for a whole day and the next day turn it on and it is still at 99% or 100% still. (depending on whether I received any texts etc...) My main ultimate launch page has no plugins and I have it set up to disable the plugin if it is not visible - (Therefore no resources required from device and no power required from battery) unless I go to view the page with those plugins. My main ultimate launch page has no plugins (Just shortcuts) so no extra drainage of the battery required to run that page. IF you have alot of plugins displayed on your screen, running at the same time - you will see your battery draining quicker and then running apps is extra.

I installed abcPowerMeter for checking current consumption..
It shows wierd results. sometimes with no apps running, it shows 120mA and other times 196mA.
While playing TCPMP songs, it sometimes shoots above 200mA and sometimes no change in previously displayed value..
I manually obesrved that i talked on call for 4 mins and battery drained by 3% (71% to 68%). similar for other calls.
I have no plugins on home screen except HTC Today.
Also i observe that playing with MS excel or explorer even for an hour drains battery by more than 10%...
I am clueless if my battery is faulty, or my piece is faulty or P3452 itself has this battery draining problem
hmmm? Do you have constant data connection? I don't have a data plan so I only use WIFI and always turn it off when I am not using it. Bluetooth as well. All my settings are set so that nothing runs on my device unless I turn it on myself. No internet though my provider as (no automatic weather updates, Email... I have to turn WIFI on and then manually update my weather myself and get my emails myself. If you have your device set up to automatically grab these things, this will drain your device quicker. Having data connection always running or bluetooth always on will drain device quicker. Listening to music though bluetooth headphones drains battery quicker then listening to music using wired headphones. I also don't keep my screen brightness at top level. I turn it up if I need to but I rarely need to do this. Other apps running in the background will also drain battery quicker (even if you don't see them running in your task manager eg. Ilock for S2U2 will require system resources *I am assuming). I have my backlight shut off rather quick and S2U2 is set up on my device to shut off screen rather quick as well. If you are running S2U2 as well and have an animated gif wallpaper, this will drain battery faster.
I don't know if this would have any effect but have you installed a lot of apps on your device? Even if you have uninstalled them, they may have left a footprint of some sort that might be causing some of your power issues. I noticed when I first got my phone and was experimenting with lots of different applications that even after uninstalling them, my phone was not responding as quickly as it orriginally did and started even having some problems running some apps that had no problems in the past and I was having memory problems as the system was still showing that it's resources were still being used. I did a hard reset after finding all of the apps that I wanted and thenafter hard reseting I re-installed everything fresh and then set up my phone the way that I wanted. After doing this, my device was running and still is running very nice, quick and smooth and have not had the battery problems you are describing.

Well my problem was even worse
After I bricked my elfin (thought it was an elf lol) I sent it back to htc. Eventhough I didnt put any facture with it (it's 2nd hand) they made it for free (in garanty) by exchanging mobo + vibrator (lol!). And that when I only needed the original software, so they have good service as far as I know..
But back to subject: I think it's your battery indeed. I guess there are more people having elf/elfin battery issues. Mine was:
After barely 2 weeks my battery got sucked empty in like 1 hour or even faster. Tried usb, normal charging, etc but nothing worked. It said it was charging but even turned off. So I bought a new battery but still the same problem, so it has to be the charging unit of the phone or something. Now I asked for another repair and hope they'll pick it up tomorrow. I'll let you guys know if I get it back!

First of, YES I USED THE SEARCH FUNCTION .
My battery life is absolute horrid right now, and I tried everything.
I tried out different roms, every radio, deleting programs, hard resetting tons of times. I even bought a new 1500 mAh battery but it was still crap.
Battery log says my device in standby mode with the screen turned of uses -70ma, when I turn my screen up it jumps to -320ma, and when idle on the screen for a few sec it goes to -200 ma, but when I browse through stuff again it goes to 3xxma again. When I surf on the internet it picks up to 450-500ma.
Now, this morning with the 1500 mAh battery fully charged I played a few games of XTRAKT, few texts, 1 hour of music listening and 10 minutes of being on Opera through a HSDPA connection. It was down to 45%.
This isn't the normal rate the battery goes down at right?
I use HDtweak to manage my connection and put it off after a minute so it isn't that I keep dataconnections open. I never use bluetooth or wifi either.
Could it possibly be that it's the charger of the device? I perhaps have the feeling that it doesn't put enough juice into the battery even though the green light led goes on to indicate it's full.
Some feedback would be much appreciated cause it's put me on the edge of selling my device, which would be a shame cause I'm really fond of it (except the battery ofcourse ).

May I ask what you searched, as there are 3 or 4 active threads on battery drain right now?

General battery drain yes, not the possible issue of a charger though. If I'm wrong I stand corrected. .

I'll try this, I have noticed that today my storage card won't be read by my computer, so perhaps this is a fix for the lousy battery issue.

Hi Antrak,
Touch HD has the longest battery life of any similar 'phone. See e.g.

Either your battery is not charging correctly, as you say (try it via the PC USB cord?), or you have two dud batteries in a row (very unlikely) or you have a bug in your m/board. 70mA in standby is too high. It should be <20mA with only the 'phone on in standby mode, providing you are not moving from one cell to another all the time, and have decent signal.
One other suggestion. Drain the battery completely to zero, then recharge it to max. This should reset the internal battery meter. But don't do this too often, as it ages the battery faster.
If none of these work, return the 'phone for a m/board replacement undere guarantee.
I have the same problem... After charging for 10 hours, my batt shows 55% only.. and last 1hr on STANDbY!!!
IMAGINE! charge for 10hrs juz to get to use for 1 hr.. im disappointed by the batt.. im not sure if HTC is gona let me exchange with a new one or do I have to buy a new batt..
try check your sync..its active all the time or not..

Okay I've charged my HD through my pc with a USB cable and formatted my SD card like a other user said. Gonna see how it holds out today. It could very well be that some chargers have issues.
My experience with the Touch HD says that when charged with a USB attached to a computer the battery life is a lot shorter than charged through a wall socket.

This is always going to be the case. Quickest way to charge your device will always be through your wall socket and with your device turned off!!
Same battery issue.
i recently purchased a new touch HD (T8285 telstra version) and am experiencing the same horrible battery issues. it takes more time to charge it, than i get use out of it.
i've tried multiple batteries, and am in the process of trying different ROMs.

Indeed, here's an illustration...

Charging via USB takes longer. Consumption and therefore charge current is erratic after the battery level reaches 50% when charging via USB on my HD. So the battery fills up to about 60% of its capacity by the time when the battery level is reported to be 100% and charging stops.

When charging with an AC adapter this is not happening and the capacity is fully utilized. This is also quicker.

That's strange. For me it's quicker if the device is turned on. When it's off it takes around 8-10 hours to charge but when it's on it's alot quicker.

If your device is on there is always power outage especially with programmes running, whilst if your device is off, there is no power drainage so device should charge quicker.
What rom are you using? software installed?

Latest official rom with alot of software installed. But it doens't make sence to me either. It's logical for something to charge faster when it's using no power (off) then when it is using power (on).

I have a gut feeling from what I'm reading, that HTC have had a bad batch of batteries or charger circuits in the HD - in which case the best starting point is to call their service points and ask for help/replacement, instead of spending lots of time on other remedies. The symptoms described have lots of commonalities, and the HD is normally an excellent beastie for battery usage.

Don't know what it is but my battery life increased a tad. Am running Dutty's X3.0 with the 1.32.x.x. radio. Watching a 1 hour xvid dvd rip (no conversion) in coreplayer on full backlight with no HSDPA on, wifi or bluetooth takes away 20% of my battery, which is acceptable.
Don't think it's the SD card format though, it might be that I never have the activesync process on anymore by setting it to manual update and closing it (it otherwise keeps running.)

Trying to figure out 1) cause of battery drain and 2) poor power mgmt.
I had a fully charged phone yesterday at 5pm, leaving work.
When I tried to turn it on this morning it was completely, completely drained.
I have 4min timeouts set on the phone for backlight off, and 5min for device off when on battery. I had WiFi tuned off, Bluetooth on.
I did have Wayfinder and GPS active on the way home, and may have just turned off the phone. If I turn off the phone with Wayfinder active, would this continue to drain the battery, GPS reception is passive, is it not ???
How come the battery drained to such an exent, it took 5 min on a charger before it would even power up, from a full reset and WM load.
My old XDA would hibernate at low battery percentage, and still have a reserve charge to keep the phone content/settings intact.
Any views, suggestions.

When I first got my x1 end of last year, I found I only got around 6 hours out of a battery.
Now I get about 36 hours of normal use out of one charge. Including 1 hour of gps each day/ half hour of wifi.
What worked for me was to, reduce back light time to 10 seconds when standalone. I also found S2U unlock drained the battery, so I now use the standard unlock.
Also, ensure that no auto updates (only manual) are done e.g SPB weather, insight RSS etc.
I have also changed my battery to a Mugen 1800 mAh. This seems to have increased my time by around 25% on average use.
S2U2 no longer drains my battery, one of the old versions did and so did the old version of AE Button but they are both good now, I get min of 2 days and max of about 5 depending on load of use... normal use is about 3... (internet for emails and dling rss feeds and some reading of forums 1 hour, reading books/texts about 4-5 hours and listening about 2hours plus calls and texts is a normal day for me...)
GPS does drain your battery pretty quick though...

There is no poor power management in there.
It is all because of wayfinder. GPS is still active if you leave Wayfinder active all the time and it will drain the battery supoerfat.
Try closing Wayfinder and you will what I am talking about.
I found out that any Battery applications greatly reduces my (juridically - my wife's) X1i lifetime.
AFAIK to measure any battery charge you need to short circuit it for a millisecond or so and measure the current, not the voltage. When any Battery software does it (through the hardware) every few seconds your battery looses its charge faster.

I am running Home++ and its fairly decent as far as drain goes... I dont notice much more than when its not running...

In this particular instance the drain happened so fast, overnight, and I was not using the X1 at all. (or so I thought so).
So I am curious to know what caused the rapid drain, and why the X1 does not have a more controlled low power close down.

I have already explained. It was the GPS application that drained the battery, nothing else.
Just as a test try leaving it for as few hours running again and you will see.

I do have the same effect. but I do not use GPS or wifi at all.
Sometimes it put the phone down, screen disabled and fully charged. No application running.
Next morning the battery is dead.
It happens about once every two weeks without any sign why...
My solution: I bought a desktop charger which is able to charge a second battery and simply exchange it, when this happens again.
Not ideal - but right now we seem to have to life with it.
do you have an old version of S2U2 or AE Button plus on your phone? And I have also read that batti used to cause drain problems... this might be the case with yours(?) if you have none of these installed then I am of not much help...
If u use Push email or active sync, Google sync Hotmail sync any Email sync on arrivel option ur battery will only last 5hours cause the phone is using mobile web at all times and constantly sending and recieving, turn it off an ur phone will last over 19hours with out charge... EG i turned my email sync off at 10am an the batt level was 60% didnt charge it till next day 11am when the batt levels drop to 20%
Is your X1 fairly new?
I experienced exactly this issue about a week after I bought my X1. No apparent reason for it, but the battery just drained right out overnight.
Strangely, the same thing happend about a week after I bought a HTC Touch Pro.
In both instances it has happened only the one time. Since then things have been normal, or drains caused by known software issues (like the buggy version of S2U2).
As earlier suggested, I loaded the Wayfinder app, with its GPS active.
I tuned off the phone when the app was on screen.
Left it for 3 hours, and there was a noticeable drain of the battery.
Lets hope the new WM 6.5 improves Power Mgmt, and has a more elegant low power handling.
Do you have G-Alarm installed? My Battery gets drained very fast when I have this installed. I tried many different versions within the last few month, allways the same.
I experienced this last night for the first time with my X1. I left the X1 on the bedside table at 11:30 with 90% charge and was awakened by the battery low alarm at 6:30 am (not good).
The only thing that I noticed that was unusual was that my X1 had been connected to the PC with ActiveSync in the connected state. I shut down the PC and then unplugged the X1. In the morning after the battery low alarm I noticed that the phone thought it was still connected. I use SPB Phone Suite and it was still showing the Cradle profile. This would not change in the automatic mode so I had to reboot the phone. Everything has been fine since.
So ... I am wondering if ActiveSync can sometimes go crazy and drain the battery more quickly??
I have a faster draining battery since i installed g-alarm. can anyone confirm that?
In my case I dont have G-Alarm installed.
Well my battery is not draining that seriously. it's ok i guess.

I have been using G-Alarm since the very moment I got my X1 and there is no noticeable battery drain. Lasts 3-4days.
Ye, my battery just went from 48% to 3% in about 3 minutes. Does anyone have any idea why this is?
Same problem here. From about 43 % down to 7 % while it started to charge the battery with the original charger. Afterwards the Tab didn´t charge at all. Battery drained and got very warm.
I Called Vodafone and was told i have to send the Tab in for fixing. I hate waiting for the tablet 3 weeks.
Update: After 2 hrs. of waiting the Tab cooled down and i was able to start it again. Did a factory reset and was able to charge again with the wall mount charger.

My HTC desire has been on for 52 hours, used for a lot of stuff and is at 20% battery.
The Tab charges to 100%, I unplug it at night and in the morning it has lost approx 10%, I leave it a few more hours and it't down to around 60%. This is with no use and no apps running!
I've tried killing apps or leaving them in memory and it doesn't seem to make much difference. I also use setcpu and have a profile where the CPU speed decreases when in standby to conserve battery?!
If I charge to 100% and use it constantly, I get fair life out of it maybe 4-6 hours of light use - some streaming over wifi, web surfing, kindle, sudoku etc. If I use it occasionally or heavily though, it dies very quick and if I leave it at about 40% on the evening, it's generally dead in the morning.
Why does it discharge so fast in standby??
Check to see if it continually searching for a signal. I've noticed that mine loses a lot of power constantly searching for a signal, cellular and wifi. So, I used airplane mode to conserve power. Remember that it syncs to different services that require it to periodically download data. That may be your issue.

Thanks Chuck, I use it in airplane mode all the time and only use web over wifi (bought unconnected in the UK). Would it still be syncing for email etc? I didn't think it could turn on wifi and sync itself but only when I turn wifi on. I always turn wifi off when not in use. I had problems with widgetlocker asking for superuser permission quite often and that killed the battery quicker so I removed that until it's fixed and saw an improvement.
I'm not seeing the times that other people are though, losing at least 10% overnight and there's nothing really running.
I installed battery doctor and the times it quotes are high for different types of usage and nowhere near what I'm getting.
I'll make sure email and calendar are set to manual update, adjust brightness etc and see what happens. It seemed better when I first got it so perhaps an app is draining it? I installed system panel to monitor this but it's hard to see what is actually draining it, any recommendations anyone???
Quite disappointed at the moment, ipads barely drop 1% overnight and I'd rather not have to turn it off to conserve battery when it should maintain it in standby...
Check the task manager and see what application are running. Also you can go in settings- about device - battery use to see if a specific application is using your battery out of normal. Also , the display is generally the battery hog, you may have set it to a super high level. One last thing you may have the buggy 3d gallery app, and it will show in the battery usage.

this is an interesting problem. its very similar to the Apple Macbook Air.
The Macbook Air was very thin - very nice looking - however it needed to depend on wifi to do most things.
the association i am trying to build here is this: the Tab needs a bluethooth headset so you dont get all your calls broad-casted over speakers and that could drain the battery a lot.
for me the battery drainage didnt seem so bad and its been on for the last 36 or so hours. the battery icon didnt look like it moved so much and i was impressed considering this thing had a gigantic battery. then i loaded up a utility that read the battery and said i had 59% so my jaw dropped. not only is the battery indicator wrong there maybe rogue processes casuing the battery drainage. and this is on 2.2 which is supposed to be somewhat battery efficient.
i dont know - frustration is what i am all about here with this thing. it seems that every time i buy a new android device i want to move to another android device. no one is getting the damn thing correctly setup.
Am at work right Now, Charged the tab overnight, just few minutes ago my battery said 60% left and now the tab is completely dead, wont turn on, I ll wait until i get home to charge, fingers crossed.

its been charging for 2 hours now and battery is not even warm to the touch plus no power yet... if charging is what you intended....
more than 3 hours of charging and counting and still no sign of life...This device is just 8 days old today from Brand new...

I am experiencing the same thing. Tab on flight mode and charged to 100% overnight. Unplugged at 9am, still on flight mode with no apps running, and it is 88% at 2pm.
12% drop in 5 hours with no usage whatsoever is way too much imo, comparing let say to my HD2, even not in flight mode. Wonder if they have a bad batch of battery for certain tabs........
Just wanna report back after my last post. When the percentage was dropped to 85%, I did a reboot. And guess what, now it displays 95% !!!!!!
5% drop from the morning til now in flight mode seems right and okay. Does it mean the tab is miscalculating the percent left?
PS.

let me jump in here again and share a similar deli-ma i had with my X10i.
while i was messing around with some custom roms i decided to stick to one that looked somewhat nice. well the funny thing is the battery indicator would always display 100% and for about 4 hours it would drop ever so slightly. then i removed the battery and put it back in -- the battery indicator showed 0% and i got a red light flashing ....
after screwing around with it for a bit i re-flashed the stock firmware from Sony-Ericsson and magically my battery meter and my battery worked fine.
so to sum up -- it maybe a software issue like the one i had on my SE X10i above?
