Renaming Mfc80u.dll - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hey all, i have a problem with viewing images in "pictures & videos" after installing a dialer skin.
I've heard that i need to rename Mfc80u.dll with total commander for it to work.
I went into the total commander & tried setting the file off of read only. It wouldn't change. I tried renaming it. It wouldnt change. I even tried deleting & moving the file. Nothing worked.
Does anyone have a solution to this? I'm not a big fan of losing everything & hard resetting.
Thanks in advance!

Try Resco File Explorer, that should work!

I cant even find the file under resco. However, if i go back with total commander, the file is there.

Rasco will hide all *.dll extension files by default. go into file/options/view and uncheck the hide option to see this file.

So you're saying that Resco File Explorer can change the read only flag on a file so it can be writable Molski ??

Most odd. I've always been able to use File Explorer, turn on "Show all files" and delete the file (you don't need it) without changing any attributes.
Bear in mind that there are TWO files very similarly named and the second one is untouchable ... luckily it's NOT the one to delete or rename

Games Folder

Here's what happened...
There was an icon inside my games folder that didnt do anything. Clicking it just gave me an error (forgot the error already). I took the risk and deleted the icon. After a reset, my Games folder was showing up as an ordinary folder (no card icon below it).
Can anyone copy their Games folder and attach to this post??? Or maybe just give me the solution...

maybe that's a glitch in the system files... why don't you just hard reset your phone? back up your contacts and calendar of course..
Attached is the file you have deleted. This file is the icon for the Games folder (it's actually a shortcut file). You can customize the icon of any folder by creating a file named "icon.lnk" with a content similar below:
1#ceshell.dll,-162
Using a 3rd party File Explorer (e.g. Resco), you will be able to see this file. Using the defaul File Explorer, you will only be able to see this file when you turn on "View All Files" option (tap and hold on any open area of the default File Explorer and this option will be shown on the context menu).
In my experience, this icon appears inside the Games folder when I go through Start -> Programs -> Games when the "View All Files" option is turned on. Try turning it off and this icon file disappears.
Have fun,
YajP
Marc,
It would take too long to restore all my applications and settings if i Hard Reset.
File didnt work. Placed it inside the Games folder and reset my device. Have you had experience restoring any of these icon files?
~ishtangli
Nope, didn't have such problem. I also deleted that icon.lnk in the Games folder before thinking that it was installed wrongfully by some of the 3rd party apps... to my surprise, the Games folder was reduced to an ordinary folder icon when I go to the Programs menu. So what I did was got that file from one of my colleagues, copied it to my device and tried to solve the issue of hiding that icon file. Below are the current screen shots from my pocket pc... hope it helps...
ishtangli, my ROM is still the stock one: 1.66 WWE... so am not sure if the functionality was changed in other ROM upgrades (1.72, WM2003SE) =)
that's a very possible suggestion! i think the functionality wouldnt change in other rom versions.. i'd say go with the RESCO solution
Maybe some kind soul could post their entire games folder...
~ishtangli
Here it is...
still didnt work. hmmm.... seems kinda simple but it just wont work. WM2003SE thing?!?! Whatever it is, im not hard resetting my device just to get some damn icon back. Thanks guys! If you find any solution, post it here aite...

Games Icon
Try this.
Download, unzip and copy the icon.lnk file within to the /Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Games folder.
It is a shortcut to target the shell *.dll file that contains the icon that is displayed for the games folder: shellres.dll,-8229
So that must be the difference, the link to the icon file...
from
1#ceshell.dll,-162 (ROM1.66)
to
shellres.dll,-8229 (WM2003SE)...
Yeah

Good job.
it worked!!!
Thanks guys!!!

Editing File Attributes

Sorry if this has been covered, looked but couldn't find anything detailed enough.
I'd like to change two of the files in the "windows" directory, specifically the phone app background files. (Using OzVGA they're currently not large enough).
I've made two new .bmps but cant copy over the original files (Bckgnd_Land.bmp & Bckgnd_Port.bmp) because they have the "Read-Only" and "System" attributes set. I can't change these attributes in File Explorer on the Universal, nor from within WinXPHome's Explorer while the device is connected. (I can see the attributes, but they're shaded and inaccessible).
Do I need another file explorer or something?? I think i saw a post where somene else had done something similar, but now can't find that post!!!
yes, use Resco Explorer or Total Commander
Please note that those files are in ROM, so you are not really overwriting them. You merely bend the pointer. As soon as you delete your own creation the old file handle is restored.

So what you're saying is that I can't alter these files??
Installed Total Commander and although it appears to have the ability to change the attributes... it can't. I assume that's because they're in Rom?

Can't remove a large file

I put a large unicode font 22Mb into the fonts folder that I do not need but I cannot remove it now. I try to delete it but it won't allow me. Anyone knows how I can remove it?
Thanks,
re large file
install resco explorer locate the file and delete it
thats it
(got same problem week ago)
Thanks, but I do have resco explorer and still can't delete it.
Any more ideas?
plug it into your pc, then explore it and delete it from your pc. think that should work.
re big file
disable write and read protection enable to see hidden files and than delete
works

How to modify files in Windows folder?

I tried to modify and delete trivial files in Windows folder,
but I cannot delete it anyway.
I also used total commander to modify file's write protection off, but the protection is protected by something.
I had no problem of messing with files in the folder when I used AT&T's rom.
Is there anyway I can solve this problem??
I'm using Schap's 4.00 rom.
Would suggest using resco explorer. Its a commercial app though but you can use it for a trial period (I think it was 14 days). This allows you to do just about anything. You will probably find that the files are being used or are in the ext rom. the file explorer that comes standard WONT allow any altering of these files. As I said, Resco will but it will give you warning that change could damage os. Hope this helps..... Cheers
If you are using Total Commander, select the file you are having trouble with and look at the file properties. If it is in rom, it will show a check mark in the bottom box, and should be greyed out, meaning that you can't change that.
Yes, it was Rom file, thanks.

Possible to change program assignments?

In my Dopod, when I click on a TXT file in my File Explorer, it always opens in MS Pocket Word. Then I have to be careful to select the correct file save as text files.
I installed some alternative NotePad programs but there appears to be no way to change the file extension type assignments to start up the correct program instead?
I have googled quite a bit but came up empty!
Anybody solved this problem?
Thanks!
AFAIK, Advanced Config has such an option to change file associations.
I had Advanced Config 3.2 already but did not know it had file association.
Found it under More Settings!
Unfortunately, when I tried to re-assign the program, it bombed when I was navigating the tree view.
Eventually, had to copy the application to \Program Files\ and select it from there!
After that, it seems to accept the settings.
Unfortunately, after the soft reset, the extension is still pointed to same application as before!
Latest update!
Something very funny is going on.
Advanced Config shows that the file association has been changed.
TXT file is now:
\Program Files\PocketTextEditor.exe "%1"
However, when I click a txt file in File Explorer, it still opens with Pocket Word!
Did I do something wrong?
Thanks!
