Charging the battery... - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi All - Does any one know of a gadget that can charge the battery independent of the XDA itself. I'd kinda like to have a second battery on charge

Battery charge Auto on/off SOFTWARE

Hi guys,
Can you suggest me any software which can control the overtime charge of battery in HTC hd2.. i mean auto OFF the battery charging after it is full or after a limited time as we desire.
As you know battery is a problem for such device and basically i have to charge everyday which i do at night but i afraid if i charge the batter overnight then it may damage to battery itself.
Thank you a lot.

Have you not noticed that the HD2 does this automatically?
When the charge light is orange, its means charging.
When charge light turns green, it means that it has stopped charging, but is drawing the power from the mains and not the battery.
Is that what you are enquiring about?
Thanks.
Modern batterys have a circuit that cuts the charge when its full, so it doesn't overcharge.
yeah, you cant overcharge your battery....read your user manual that came with your phone.........
thank you
Thank you all for your kind response

Question about battery calibration

What is the purpose in doing this?
On to my real question
So anyways I charged my phone to 100%, removed it from the charger and wiped battery stats, used my phone and let it run all the way down and it turned off before I put it back on the charger. From reading you are not supposed to let it turn off. So should I do the process over again?
Thanks.
When I do the batter calibration I let it die completely and that's what it says everywhere so I think you'll be ok unless you really don't see an improvement in battery.

Seriously.. I think the USB charging port is bunk.. I brought the 2 batteries and a wall charger for 9.99 on ebay. I would always have to top off the batteries to they stay full charged...
With the Wall charger.. it's a way better way to charge. I"ve done 4 charge cycles.. and every time I plug in a charged battery off the walll charger it's stays fully charged for a long time.. then it trickles down... I serioulsy don't think calibration is the problem.. it's the USB charging port. There shouldn't be a need to Calibrate your battery.
Just my speculation.

i think he is talking about calibrating your battery in use with a new custom kernel, in which they recommend to calibrate battery.
to answer your question though, like you already know i did the same thing. the response i got from that is that it should not matter.
also i too got the 2 battery deal and wall charger for 9.99 and can deff say using a wall charger charges your phone way better than the included usb charger.

What is this two battery and wall charger?
For the kind of batteries we use in the cell phones, it is never advised to let the battery drain completely - this is stated in the manual that comes with the phone, too.
I believe it is wrong information that the battery needs to be drained completely in any case. Draining the battery completely actually reduces the storage capacity of the battery.
If you have more than one battery are you supposed to do the battery calibration for each one?

About charging !

IT is bettery to wait unlit the phone is fully discharged or for example If I have 50% battery And I want to charge it another 30 % is there a problem.
(I want to know if after a long period of daily using this metod is bad for my battery)
Thx
With modern batteries it doesn't matter. Older batteries could be temperamental, but any advice about charging x number of times, or completely discharging is simply no longer relevant.

its even healthier to randomly charge your battery. it doesnt have to be fully charged and not fully drained. theres no memory effect on modern batteries, just charge & unplug it whenever you like
Thx for your help really apreciate
With lithium batteries top up charges are better than drain and full charge.

Battery charging.

The phone comes with a li-po battery, for the li-on battery i have read that the first charge should be 4-6 houers , anyone know how mouch is the recomended first charging time?
Also any battery tips like when its better to charge are really welcome
hey there im about get my first X5, could you tell me how you did your first charge! thinking of leaving it for 4-6hours before i use it!
Li-ion or li-po batteries don really care how they are charged. First charges etc. are remains when they used nicd/nimh batteries...
charge to full and youre done...

[Q] Nexus 4 battery

Is it possible to ruin my phone's battery due to overcharging? I charge my phone overnight no matter what percentage it is on, I still charge it I know this is bad, but can this ruin the battery? thanks
You should be able to charge as long as you want w no problems as long as you're doing this in a cool or room-temp environment (rather than say leaving it alone in a car charging at high noon w AC off, windows down & no sun shades on the windshield). If you have your phone charging in hi-temp conditions too long\often your battery swells & you get gradual irreparable damage.

If u make a correct use of your battery it won't get damaged. Extreme overclock, overvolt, etc can ruin your battery, but if u charge it every day because ur battery is empty it's ok, and u won't have any problem.

You should be fine. Just look out for power surges!

thanks man =) thanks to the both of you who replied
Normally, when your phone reaches 100 % full battery level, it stops charging and starts discharging. At around 95 % level, it starts charging again. This all takes a toll on the battery, especially over a long period.
If your phone's battery is at or above 50%, leave it alone or turn it off for the night.
I have an external battery pack for use during the day time, just for situations like this.

I don't think that's correct. It should switch to a trickle charge, which won't harm the battery, not stop charging completely.

What I spend a lot of time charging the phone through USB? I leave it on charge at work plugged into the computer through USB as there are no free plug sockets. My battery just seems to be getting worse and worse over the last couple of months... Could this be the problem?

It'll automatically stop charging itself when it's full, it's impossible to overcharge a modern cell phone battery these days. They are a bit more computerized than the old nicad batteries from back in the day. It's actually healthier to give lithium batteries partial charges at a time instead of draining to zero percent and charging to 100 percent.

I doubt it. Could be a faulty battery, but more likely to be apps draining it in the background. Install BetterBatteryStats and see what is using the battery.

i'm using app called full battery & theft alarm. i always charge my phone during sleep, and this app will wake me up to disconnect the charger if the battery is full.
i hope this will prolong the battery life
How do you know your battery is getting worse if it's always charging?
My personal experience is the less you charge it, the better it will perform. However, when you DO charge it, make sure you are less than 30% battery and charge it to 100% before removing it.
For me it's easy, I basically charge my phone at night when I go to bed and that's it. I easily get through an entire day on this phone, though I admit I usually only have about 2-1/2 hours screen on time (I mostly use my tablet when I am at home)
