Systemmessage: "Telefon: your data session has ended&am - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

hi after upgrading my systemrom to the current T-Mobile German the mentioned systemmessage comes up regulary all ca. 5 minutes. - does anyone knows the problem and how i can get rid of it? the strange thing is that it seems the message has nothing to do with the actual condition of the data session. - cause it appears without having established such a session yet (e.g. after soft-boot).
i have no special software installed (only skype, sdk-tools, gprs-monitor, resco file explorer and adobe)...
please have a look at the attached picture and
thanks for any helping answer...

Stop applications closing automatically?

Hi,
I've recently started using my XDA II, but I'm having a very frustrating problem which I suspect may be a 'feature' of PocketPC 2003 memory management.
When I open up applications and then switch focus away from them (e.g., by using a task switcher like Go, Smallmenu, MagicButton, etc.) they then 'close' themselves in the background.
This is annoying enough when it's just e.g., viewing a file and then have to reopen it and find your place again, but it's seriously irritating when you're in the middle of a task, swap out for a few seconds, and then try to return only to find that PocketExcel has closed, having 'saved' your file with a silly name, meaning you have to open it again. In some apps it even seems to lead to data loss (e.g., if you're half way through entering a new contact, and then do something else, you lose your half-completed entry).
I've got stacks of memory free, so if it's a memory management 'feature' it's being far, far too zealous in reclaiming what it thinks are "unused" resources.
Does anyone else have this problem -- and if so, is there a way to solve it? (please say yes!)
thanks!
Greg.
Hello gregmarsh,
this is a well-known issue with all XDA2 and alike devices (i.e. MDA2, i-Mate etc.) and early ROM's such as 1.03 etc. Check the following link for more info on this issue with a few suggestions how to (at least partialy) get rid off it:
http://ppcw.net/mobile2003.php?itemid=1645
The good news is that the number of running processes have been reduced in ROM 1.60.
PavelR.
PavelR,
Thanks for your help on this point -- I will try some of those suggestions.
I hope that O2 releases a new supported version of the ROM soon (I don't quite have the guts to flash this myself just in case all hell breaks loose...!)
cheers,
Greg.

Need a dll for GPRS measurement

Here's an example of measurement GPRS using ril and some instructions posted by benclewett.
As I am a newbie in eVC (and in VC too), my code is very poor, but It works!
Does somebody has a better example or a dll made with it?
Thanks!
Hi,
Interesting - what does this do?
Does it measure data transferred (which is what i'm looking for!).
Where did you get it?
Thanks!
--ian
Hi,
I can't seem to unrar it - all the files seem to fail - has anyone else tried it?
--ian
Works for me, using WinRAR 3.41
Hi,
Ah, ok - thanks.
Have you tried the code then?
Does it work?
What's it do?
--ian
Haven't tried the code, since I don't use GPRS. I didn't choose a data plan when I bought the phone, and Cingular charges more than I want to pay for data.

Exec REG Hacks + Lanching Network Apps

Received my Exec today, thanks to EVERYONE that has provided Reg hacks and advice on this excellent forum.
I've got the following questions...
1. I installed the Reg hack to reduce fonts from 900 to 700 and it appears to have taken effect but ONLY on the dropdown menu when within File Explorer, the smaller fonts appear nowhere else - I believed they would reduce/change the Start Menu's font?
2. When browsing a network drive share, is there a hack that will allow the Exec to launch the applications without having to copy them to the local Exec/SD card? For instance, I like to download CAB files on my desktop PC and access the share via the Exec to actually install them.
3. I had an XDA2s (still in posession) from which I've upgraded, I was able to bluetooth transfer all of my contacts across BUT whats the easiest way without using ActiveSync, to transfer my old/current Text Messages across?
4. I like web browsing and have great eyesight, therefore I'm wondering if there is a web browser for PocketPC available that will literally scale an entire website down to show on the Exec's display? I don't want it to 'adapt' the website, but literally scale it down! Anything out?
Appreciate all of your help!

Already there, hehe - back to my other points though, anyway that you can help? Especially with the text messaging and transfering the data store??
i run cab installers from network share over wifi, not had any issues with that, specially now that the cabs dont get deleted after install anymore, I am using resco explorer to do it tho, it might be an issues with the default explorer that stops you.
As for webpage viewing, i suggest the VGA have weve mastered.
As for text messages, i never keep them long enough.
Yeah, installed Resco last night and as you say I can now launch apps over the network, unsure why the standard File Explorer doesn't allow tht!
Text Messages are my next major problem, anyone else any ideas?

Wifi FoFum - HTC Cavalier

Hi Guys,
I've been lucky enough to get hold of a HTC 630 (or Cavalier i think its code named).
At present I want to utilise the Wifi as much as possible and have been hunting around for suitable Wifi programmes.
Wifi Fofum on aspecto looks a very good product. Can anyone give feedback on the software and its reliability? i.e. Can I expect regular crashes or loss of data etc etc.
Any feedback / suggestions will be greatly received as info on this device is pretty non-existant.
Many thanks.
Wififofum is good I use it quite often though on an HTC TyTn. Problem is that although it shows you either a list of networks around you or a nice radar screen - it is a bit limited beyond that. It's free and runs smoothly though. Another free one is Hitchhiker and this provides you with a chance to connect to networks/hotspots etc. Also takes some of the hassle out of setting up the connection. It's also free. It does need the .net framwork 2 installed but their site has a link to install that as well:
http://www.kasuei.com/hitchhiker/
And for a variety of the more serious network tools I recommend the Cambridge Computer Corporation - e.g. Vxipconfig

Trouble downloading
Hi Mike,
You helped with a query on wifi and pointed me in the direction of hitchhiker whick looks excellent. However I can't get it to download. The installer goes on my PC fine but I can't do anything with the CAB files.
Am I right just going straight for ver 0.4 and none of the prev versions? I don't know if I'm doing it right by downloading the installer first.
My active sync tells me that the installer is primed to be transferred on next connection, and it does. Buts thats about as far as I get. The icon appears on the 630 but no data must be in there.
SOS!
Cheers

Does Hitchhiker get listed in your programmes? And if sowhat happens when you open it?
With cab files you transfer them unopened/unextracted to your device and open them on the device.

Can't fathom out the problem. Some suggestions for what they are worth:
The Hitchiker site has different versions available - could try uninstalling and try another one.
The Hitchhiker site has a .netframework checker on a link near top of page - could install checker to ensure you have correct version.
Failing this you might need to contact Kasuei with the error message you get and see if they can help.

Handy Sniffer v2.0

Hi IT people,
Handy Sniffer v2.0 has been released! It is cardinally altered.
11 protocol parsers are included and now anybody can develop new packet analyzers (.dll).
Unregistered version has a little restrictions but has no trial period.
You can find the program and module sample on our site.
http://winm-soft.atspace.com
Good Luck!
Great Release
Congratulations Alex, you managed to make cellular trafic capture, it's great news! Sorry that i didn't replyed to you about 1.6 but I had some personal problems that time. Anyway when we might expect WM5/6 version?
HS2 is specially designed for WM2003, WM5, WM6 and maybe smartphones (not tested). If there are some artifacts, ect. write me about it. I have WM5 and WM6 devices and HS2 and EDh work well. Play it! It is very great If anybody makes some additional protocol parser. Any ideas? Maybe some Instant Messenger protocol?
One more sample module
This is a sample module that can process each packet captured by sniffer. It replaces the main program module ("modules\hs_ether.dll") and calculates some Rx statistics. Maybe its source can be interested for somebody.
The link not work, now!
I clicked the previous link and all is ok. Copy is here.
Greetings AlexB,
I downloaded your program which sounds great. I installed the SDK certs and tried to get hsniffer running but it fails with an error message:
"Cannot activate the driver!" and then quits.
I'm using a HTC Kaiser with the latest official WM6 ROM from HTC.
If I start the program a second time, it starts without this error and if I click File->Tools->Adapters I get my adapters listed. Trying to start a capture generates the following error message: "Cannot get adapters list!"
Any hints? Did I miss something?
Hi c0rnholio,
I do not know why on some devices the sniffer cannot load the driver module (Windows\hsdriver.dll). The error 2 happens (ActivateDeviceEx, GetLastError, ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND) and next you see "Cannot activate the driver!". After this message the program works (you can open sample files) but cannot perform sniffing functions those need driver functionality. I think after this message the main window was behind and after next run you simply bring program window to top.
If anybody knows what causes such driver loading error I will be grateful for help. The program and driver are signed with SDK privileged certificate and it unfortunately does not help... **** happens.
Fixed it. The problem was that a GPRS connection was already established. After closing the existing connection the driver could be loaded and everything is working fine.
It is VERY strange! OK, if anybody ask me why HS does not work I'll say ask c0rnholio how need to do...
Hi,
i'm trying the new Handy sniffer into my TouchHD (Blackstone) but i can only get ARP packets (which are broadcasted). I also installed sdkcert as site advice, but nothing changes.
Alex, can you write down a list of devices which can capture in promiscuous mode?
In particular, how about Trinity and Blackstone?
Thanks!
sorry for my ignorance but what is the purpose of this? can i connect using gprs for free?
No, it's not for that purpose.
Handy Sniffer "Sniffs" (listen to) the traffic into a network. If working in "promiscuous mode" it can track down (and show to user) all the traffic (data in form of TCP packets) inside that network.
What's is supposed to?
There are many uses for this kind of tool, some legal and some ... "not legit".
While "sniffing" traffic of a given network, you can detect if someone is doing a unrightful use of the network, if an intrusion is being made, but also you can see passwords and other sensible data (like personal data).
It's like having a big hear cabable of listening network traffic. By itself, it can do nothing. It's up to the user to be capable of understanding packets of captured traffic.
So, forget a "stole the passwords" button. You'll not find it
woring with the HD2?
Hi, I have the HTC HD2, and I want to know if it was working with my phone?
I have actualy tried it, but the result was not good... (I only get ARP...).
thanks for any help
good for you guys, with my the HTC Kaiser I don't get anything...how do you do/set up the program
Thanks,
DOMy
