imate SP3i Bluetooth Headset phone call Initiation - HTC Typhoon

Im a little late getting one of these phones...pretty nice so far, I think....
I am wondering... when my phone keys are locked, I cannot initiate a phone call with my bluetooth headset [nextlink Digital/AX/5G/Chameleon]... without first unlocking the keys...
Anyone know a way around this, perhaps a REG hack?
I always lock my keys when I put the phone in my pocket, so it defeats the purpose of a 'handsfree headset' if I have to reach in to unlock the phone first...

in fact, you can NOT initiate a call via BT, just redial, AFAIK there is not Voice dial trough BT, so which is your point?
Can you explain a bit more?

...I Initiate calls via Bluetooth all the time... Just a simple twitch of my nose...or a tap on my Bluespoon, then say the name...and like magic..... It dial the number......
...I do have to have the handset keys unlocked, however, for this to work.... I wish to find a way to hack the registry to allow headset initiated phone calls WITH the keys locked....

I have the exact same issue - I can make voice call using the voice enabled BT in my car but as soon as the phone locks (it auto locks after 20 minutes as I have Goodlink loaded) - I am unable to make any more calls. I can still recive calls via BT an use redial but that's about it with the phone locked.
Please let me know if you find a solution.

BT voice dial while in standby

Voice dialing from bluetooth works fine while my K-Jam is on, but when it goes into standby mode it doesnt work. I press the button on the headset and I get the headset beep indicating it has connected, but I never hear the speed dail beep. If I bring the K-Jam out of standby mode, I can see the speed dial program is on teh screen, but it seems stuck. Maybe any ideas?
Thanks, John
All Wizards suffer from this; currently no known way around it, hopefully a update will cure this issue or someone will find a way.
A little more digging and I have seen where others have tried to find a work around. Here is what I am doing for now. I am turning off automatic standby and using the "device lock" to keep buttons from accidentally being pushed instead of putting it in standby by pushing the power button. I am not sure what the battery usage will be now, but I will test it for awhile and see. By the way, does anyone know how I can assign one of the hard buttons to device lock? Is there an exe somewhere or can someone point me to a registry entry for this?
Thanks
haven't found keylock yet, but found "power off"
may create a short cut in programs?
My Qtek does not have this problem.
I'm using voicedial from my bluetooth headset. It works perfect even when the phone is in standby mode! It wakes up and makes the call perfectly!! I have a Qtek 9100 and a SonyEricsson HBH-662.
same here with my dopod 838 and HBH-662 it seems to work nicely even if the device is in standby. Is this because of the headset?
::adit
No problem here either...
Dutch MDA Vario + HBH-662 headset - works like a charm standby or not.
By the way... why bother installing MS Voice when the Wizard comes with it's own voice dialing utility?

Probably because MS Voice Command is based on speaker independent recognition. So, you don't record a voice tag for the few contacts you dial most often, you just say 'call <contact> at|on mobile|home|work' and it will try and recognise the contact from your entire list.
Also pretty cool for casually pressing the button and asking 'what appointments do I have today' and having the details and locations read out to you...

OEM voicedial does not allow you to dial by digits 5-5-5-1-2-3-4 etc OEM voice dial is limited to voice tags MS Voice Command allows you to dial any contact in you're list also the ability of MS VC to announce upcoming appointments etc.
There are more these are only a few examples.
Can you guys that are able to make BT calls from standbye mode post what rom etc you have installed?
Thanks, John
Question for all you guys with the SE HBH-662 headsets. Does the caller ID on the Headset work? Meaning when you get an incoming call does it scroll the phone number only or does it display the name of the contact (if you have them in your contacts)? And how is the battery life of the headset ? I've got a Motorola HS850 which I love but I'm having the same problem with voice dialling from Standby and am willing to buy another headset if it works.
Thanks.
Hi firas,
Only the number is displayed in a scrolling fashion and it has a good battery life. Highly recommended
I have the HBH-600 but dont think it would work any different with another headset. My K-Jam receives the signal, and beeps, but seems to get stuck after that. When I take it out of standbye after trying it, I see the voice app is open, but seems to be stuck. If another headset will fix the problem, I would gladly buy it.

My HBH-660 does the same thing as your's I may go ahead and get the HBH-662 and try it thogh, if it will fix the issue that would be great.

One method that does work is to use the "redial" function on your headset. On my HS850 it's press and hold the call button. The Wizard _will_ wake up and start dialling your last used number. Just tap the headset button again to cancel the call, and you're ready to use Voicedail.
Initiating a redial then cancelling it to get the phone to wake up is a work around but not a fix. I hope they resolve this or if the HBH-662 does work I wonder what the difference is?

Thanks for your constructive input and for stating the obvious  I was simply correcting your statement that there is "currently no known way around it" which is not true. All it takes is two extra button presses.
Tried my new Wizard last night with my old Plantronics M3000 bluethooth headset, Device was in stanby and when i pressed the button on the headst it woke up and voice dailed no problems.
I am using the standard T- Mobile roms with the MDA Vario as it is only a day old.
Hope this helps

Headset talk button

I can use the talk button to answer incoming calls on headset. Anybody knows a way to use that button for voice calling etc?
Hello
Just been browsing and I notice you have asked the same question as me, I did not notice it before as I searched for handsfree.
Anyway, what model do you have? I am SPV M600, I only noticed this problem today as I have just installed MP3's onto my SD card. While I had the headphones on I tried handsfree and noticed I could not activate voice dial with the button although I could answer and close calls.
On all of my old phones, I just pressed the button, it activated voice dial and I called the number, but not this phone.
I have set up voice dial on the phone, voice tagged contacts, and it is working great, none are failing to be recognised.
Have you managed to sort out the problem yet?
I called my phone supplier they could not help as they do not have a technical dept, and Orange just wont answer the phone, customer service is dreadful lately.
Dodgy headset ??
I got my SPV M600 today and headset works fine, and the use headset selection under phone settings is greyed out as well
Sorry I replied to the wrong thread. I dont know how to get the voice dial on the headset.

Hi Spenner.
When you say your headset works, does it activate the voice dial software when the silver button is pressed or does it just answer and close calls?
Voice Dial
I think it can be solved with a registry modification. Unfortunately I cannot solve the problem myself. I tried all the properities bu I couldnt find any related one.
My phone is O2 XDA and just like you I only can answer and hang up calls by headset button.
i was asking about how to change behaviour of this button, hovewer nobydy knows
I would like to push it 1,2,3 times or push & hold and assign different actions for different pushes
it all used to work beautifully on my Orange M600. Then I upgraded to the Dopod ROm and the voice speed dialler i gone.
Bloody annoying! Can't work out how to get it back...

8525 and Voice Dial with Headset Problems

I have been using the voice dial option on my Cingular 8525 without any problem since day #1 and it is great, especially after downloading that file on XDA that allow me to reprogram the 5th pushbutton for voice dial.
I also admit that i am knew to the headset arena, having just purchased, for voice dial and incoming calls, the 'Jawbone' device, which was highly rated on CNET and PCWorld.
It doesn't work. What I mean is it rings and I can answer phone calls and it sounds OK, but when I go to voice dial out, the phone either gives me a message that it didn't understand my request or I get a wrong phone number. Failure rate on voice dial is 98%.
The manual says to rerecord the voice tag with the Jawbone on, for maximum effectiveness. so i turned it on, put it on, went to voice dial and just re-recorded the voice tags, still with 98% failure.
So, is this how it is with the 8525 and ALL headsets or do I return and try a different headset? Are there tricks to get this working? If I could just get 10 numbers to work, that would be 75% of my calls. Thanks.
Doesn't anyone use a headset with their 8525?
I hope someone posts an answer...please.....
I've been using a Southwing SH310 Bluetooth headset with my Cingular 8525 and Custel's WM 6 for several months now without probs; position can sometimes be tricky for VoiceDial and/or Voice Commander to work well, but once in the correct position it's good. I have found, however, that Bluetooth devices, especially the high end ones that are particularly sensitive, can have problems with external noise, i.e. wind and car noise when driving, etc.

Answer without using bluetooth device

If I have a bluetooth device connected to my XV-6800, is there a setting or something I can do that will allow me to answer the phone with the call button on the phone, but have it connect to the bluetooth device? Right now if I hit the call button, it only goes through the phones speaker as if the bluetooth device was not connected. For me to answer a call using the bluetooth device, I have to hit the button on the bluetooth device.
Thanks,
Jeff
That's really strange. I know that I don't have the same phone as you (I have touch Elf). I have noticed this. When I have my device connected to bluetooth headset or my handsfree car kit, I can still hit the green call button to anser the phone when I get a call and the call is still transmitted to my bluetooth. I can even still make a call by hitting the green call button, dialing the number and still all through bluetooth.
It sounds like your device is not associating properly with the bluetooth device. Go into your bluetooth settings and check to make sure that you are connected properly for hands free - Go to settings - bluetooth and click on your device to make sure that hands free is checked.
I have also noticed that on a rare occasion, my bluetooth does not connect properly and although paired, does not transmit and sound did come through phone when it shouldn't have. To fix this, I did a soft reset and all was good. It happened to me about three times since I bought the phone in Dec 2007.

The bluetooth is properly connected. When I make a call and hit the green call button, it does go through the bluetooth device. It is only when answering a call it does not go through the bluetooth device when I hit the green call button. Yes, very strange. Oh well, I was hoping somebody might have some insight.

What radio and Windows ROM are you using? I know that some of the different ones fixed some BT issues. When my headset is connected it always goes to my headset no matter what I push. Sometimes I have it in my pocket and forget and then can't hear anything on the phone. I believe you can force it to go to your headset after answering the call though.

I am currently using DCD 3.2.6 with radio 3.37.75. To be honest I am not sure I have tried it with this combination. But, I have had the problem with a DCD rom, I just don't remember which radio.
My phone has always bypassed the bluetooth earpiece if I press the answer button on the phone and not the button on the earpiece. It did it from day one with the stock verizon rom and it still does it with my custom dcd rom.
I like the option of bypassing the earpiece to answer a call, especially in a crowd. Also I have the incoming calls announced thru the earpiece. This allows me to know who is calling without even looking at the phone or touching it to answer it thru the earpiece.
This is my insight on this. I hope this helps.
Are you using Voice Command? Is the sound very low?

Mine operates the same way. I don't beleive this is a "flaw", and may vary by type of bluetooth device being used. OP is looking for a way to override this setting / feature if anyone knows. Personally, I like the option of taking it on the phone for privacy reasons as my BT device is through the car speakers.

I agree, I don't necessarily think it is a flaw. I would prefer to have mine answer with the bluetooth if I hit the green call button. I was just wondering if there is a setting some where that I am overlooking to have it the way I would prefer.
I just tried it again with the DCD 3.2.6 and 3.37.75 radio. As has been mentioned above, it does not appear to be related to a rom or radio, it is a feature of the phone.
A friend of mine has an iphone, and when they get a phone with a bluetooth earpiece enabled, they get options on the screen which say answer, answer on phone, or ignore. Or something along those lines. I like having those options, but understand if it is not available on the 6800.
Thanks for all of the replies.

Bluetooth question

Hi all,
Was wondering if there is a quick way to disable bluetooth or get the phone to not use the bluetooth connection when dialing out. I don't want to disable and then have to re-enable after the call. I want it to work similar to when you get an incoming call and use the answer key on the phone to answer it and the call stays with the unit and not routed to bluetooth ear piece but when you hang up, the bluetooth is still available for the next call. Hope that made sense.
Thanks,
Ho'okani

Hi Ho'okani,
Please try out this software as a (temporary) solution:
http://home.casema.nl/rgschmidt/WM/Downloads/BT Restart_V_1_1_0_PPC.ARMV4.CAB
This will automatically restart the bluetooth connection after ending a phonecall.
