when receive a call the device turn to landscape - Help pls - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Sometime when receive a call the device turn to landscape mode (the Keyboard is close).
I have I-mate K-JAM with
ROM version 1.1.9.3 from 9-16-05,
Radio version 01.01.10,
Protocol Version 4.0.13.16 &
ExROM version 1.1.9.106.
I have on the device:
SPB Pocket Plus,
ME Phone Plus and
Hebrew Support.
I disable all the SPB Pocket Plus option and the situation still appended.
Can any one know about that? or can help me?

i have the very same problem mate. I always thought it was the way i removed the phone from it's holster that casues it to change to landscape. The only reason i think/know thats the reason for me is cus the phone never does this when it's not in the holster. My xda is running no external apps so that would'nt cause it.
cheers

same problem here, it happens only, when taking the device out of holster. For me is the solution in orderinga new holster from Krusell because the original holster is very very bad.

it is due to the strong MAGNET in the holster, turn the device the other way around and you will not have a problem

Great Idea - 10x

omg, i was thinking about all posible reasons for this but the magnets, lol
Thx a lot for the tip, but i will order the new holster anyway, the original i just dont like, magnets yes or not

Magnets
There is a magnetic senser in the K-jam... like a electronic reed switch..
This is on purpose... much like the blackberrys going into holster mode when in the holster...
shame i can find more info on this otherwise i would write a program to mess with various settings like ringer volume and vibrate..
so it will act differently when in the case....

I though the magnetic sensor had to do with the phone being able to tell when the keyboard was extended. Best I can tell, the device behaves no differently when in the case or out. Would be nice, though if someone could develop some profiles that used this sensor like the BBs do.

I've found that there doesn't seem to be a 'other way around' - no matter which way, it still *sometimes* causes the switch.
Say the case is on my left hip - which way round would you place the K-Jam, screen facing the body, top backwards or top forwards?

Which Krusell case have you ordered?

It happens to me too. I think that the only way to avoid damage is to place the K-Jam with the screen facing the body. I don't know whatcauses it but it is strange. If you open the keyboard slightly, that wouldn't happen. It only happens on a full KBD opening or when I take the phone out of its case. Did anyone find a nicer holster that is still verticall? I found the horizontals quite too big and inconvinient.

I've been noticing mine being in landscape mode when taking it out of the case too, though it switches back quite quickly.
Try this: take the phone out of the case, rub the back of the phone across the magnet from right to left with the magnet running just below the rubber foot (under the windows logo). start with the magnet to the left of the phone, and move the phone left. It switches into landscape mode every time.
Also you can feel the phone try to stick to the magnet if you find the right place.

the magnet is what causes the switch. It won't damage your phone, but it is an annoyance.

Also happens if the Camera app, or any other app that uses landscape mode, is running.

screen flips when incoming call

Hi,
I've got the 9100 for a month now.
and everytime when the phone rings, the screen go automaticly to landscape mode, and the send button is not responding.
i can anser only frem the "answer" button on the screen which is now on the top left corner.
it doesnt happend all the time, but its very annoing.
any help?
thanks
Have you tried a hard reset ?
Hahaha... I know where this is coming from...
You are using the TERRIBLE useless case that comes in the box right? Its magnets cause the screen to flip around... your unit is A-OK.
By the way, you store your unit screen facing out or facing your body? Try changing directions if you insist on using this stupid case (I am using it also but I am looking for a better one).
Has anyone found a better case for the KJAM/QTEK 9100?
I had the problem with the case, too...
But it doesn't explain the send button not working - that's happened to me also, which is damn annoying when you're trying to answer the phone!
oh, and I'll be writing a review of the PDAir case as soon as it arrives... Fingers are crossed!
ooh
It really make sense, the magnet thing.
i don't usually put the device on specified side.
but i will try to notice it from now.
in that case, what about the car holders that uses magnet to hold the device?
Give it a try, use the cases magnets to find the spot on the KJAM that flips the screen. It seems that the sliding keyboard uses a magnet to let the device know it is open and to flip the screen.
The included case is such a useless case. I am sure that NO ONE at HTC actually tested the usability of the case WITH the KJAM inside in an everyday usage pattern...
Also, I am not sure if the magnets don't harm the device..
Many many thanks you very clever and helpful people!!!
I was on the verge of getting on to eBay and letting the top bidder have my XDA Mini, because of this switching lark, but I've tried what has been posted here and sure enough, it is the magnets.
So I'll get a better case and keep the device which I think is excellent.
Thanks again!!
yea
it helped
please give us a recommendation for a good case
thanks
Yeah.. would like to hear about a good case...
I was thinking about one of these:

Is there a way to stop aspec change when keyboard pulled out?

Does any smart person know if there a way to stop the aspect change when the keyboard is pulled out? (Basically so the operating system stays portrait instead of changing to landscape)
Cheers,
Richard

If I understand correctly you mean when taking the device out of the carrying case. The orientation can change when taking it out of the case due to the magnetic catches in the case operating the keyboard magnet operated switch.
If this is the problem then I suggest using a case with no magnets. (a better solution than disconnecting the switch). This however is not the same as not wanting landscape mode when the keyboard is out as the OP wants.
Mike
I remember getting very annoyed with the phone changing orientation when in it's magnetic case when I first got it. I searched and searched for days to find a setting or tweak to fix it. Eventually, I mentioned to my wife that I need to buy a new case.
She said "why don't you put it into the case the other way round?".
I put it in with the screen facing the belt rather than the magnets, and it's worked fine ever since that way round! Felt such an ass!
Sometimes I don't see the wood for the trees me...
I know it's the magnet doing it
I've tried the following:
1. Buy a new case with only one magnet clip (a magnet clip is more comfortable then scotch or any other solution).
2. Reverse the screen to the back.
None works, I think it's the way I pull it out...
Anyway, the only solution doesn't exist, I can't find a normal belt side case.
So my last resort is to find a way to stop the rotation, I always miss calls cuz the rotation during a call slows the device and I can't answer...
I tried to use that registry hack, I followed the instructions and I do not have the rotate icon..even after two resets. Is there any other way to force your screen a certain way?

Any feedback on cases with magnetic studs?

Hey all,
My Tilt is on the way from AT&T, and I'm looking at cases. The cases that seem to interest me all use magnetic studs. Some have said the magnetic studs can keep the Tilt turned on.
The 2 I like the most are the following:
PDair Book Type
ebay "Premium" Kaiser Case
Anyone had any experience with these or other similar cases with magnetic studs in a similar spot causing problems?
Thanks!
Dont want to hijack your thread but since your on the topic of that case anyone try "PDair Book Type"? Is it still possible to press the keys with the plastic over it?... It doesn't look like it, i seems like you would be pressing more than one button at a time with that plastic over the keyboard.

I think you'll be able to press the keys, but it wont be as good as without the case. As you said, you'll prolly press several buttons at onces and wont get the same feel when typing.
I've used a Prestige case with magnetic closure for a year or more with my AT&T 8525. Never noticed a problem. I'm now using the case with my Tilt, but that's only been a few days. Haven't noticed anything yet, however.
I'm using the PDAir flip case -- the magnetic stud doesn't affect anything. The plastic keyboard cover isn't too bad -- I haven't noticed any problems with multiple keypresses, but it does affect the feel of the keyboard.
I'm looking forward to the Piel Frama case, which should be coming out in the next few weeks. They had a really good case for my old Wizard that used a narrow leather strap & snap to hold the device in the case; you'd unsnap the strap to access the keyboard.
Depends on the magnet strength and location, there have been a few reports of the magnet turning on the phone. The kaiser keyboard uses a magnetic sensor to turn on the phone when the keyboard opens. I'm using a hip holster with mag and not seeing any issue.
I'd say should anyone have the issue, start a thread with brand/model listed for others to avoid.
I have the Seidio case I originally bought for my 8525.
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=394
The two magnets would always "trick" the screen into thinking the keyboard was open and switch it to landscape mode. I always had to wait a few seconds for the screen to switch back when I took it out of the case.
This does NOT happen with the Tilt. The screen stays in portrait mode. I have always liked the quality of the case and the magnets in the flap make it easy to open and shut. So now it is my perfect solution.
no issues here

I have been using a case with two magnetic studs on the flip closure for months now and have had zero issues. Bought mine at Fred Meyers and recomend anyone in need of a good black leather horizontal pouch case to check it out. was 15 dollars and is of the same quality and fit as 40 dollar cases you may see online.
cheers
I've been using a Motorola Case designed for the Q9 with my Tilt and it's worked out quite well. It also has a single magnetic stud closure and I have noticed no issues at all.
I bought the PDair Book Type case same week the Tilt first came out here in the U.S. I have had no problems at all. Non of that shutting off by itself thingy people complain about.
Magnetic cases
Some cases cause screen to wake up, some don't. To eliminate the problem just turn off Slide Wake option in registry. When slide wake is enabled opening the keyboard (or getting too close to a magnet) will wake the screen. Turn this option off and you can use magnetic clasps at will.

magnet triggers action?

happened to set my epic down on my wifes camera case, which has a magnetic closure flap...the phone was asleep when i set it down, but when it got close to the magnet, the screen turned on and skipped the "drag to unlock" screen...ive tried it numerous times since, and get the same result...
anyone else experience this?
Must be like blackberries. When you pulled them out of their case the screen would turn on and when you put them back in the screen would turn off.
Sent from my Epic using XDA app.
I remember reading about the magnetic sensor in a list of specs but this is the first time I've heard of it actually being triggered. It would be nice to see some cases that take advantage of this feature.
I just pulled a hard drive magnet off of my cubicle wall and tried it. Doesn't work for me.

Yup, that works for me..but doesn't go to the lockscreen, immediately goes to the the home screen.
I would assume it is for either the home media dock, or an upcoming car dock, so it automatically goes into the proper program when in place.

Hope they plan on putting out a maintenance release for that..I just installed Car Home, locked the screen and put the magnet next to it and it came on in landscape mode, but just on the home screen.
Would be nice if we could use something like tasker and create a couple of actions depending on the proximity of a mgnet...
Haha all I "use" the magnet sensor for is with the Tricorder app, magnetic flux option. =P Might help to find the best spot... (I guess I'm not cool enough to have hard drive magnets at work.)
It's for the slide-out keyboard. Hold your phone in portrait and keep the magnet to the left of the LED flash. The screen will re-orient itself to landscape. Move the magnet and it will go back.

[Q] Anyone have a Seido Active case?

I'm wondering, can the phone be flipped around in the holster? Like in all pictures I've seen, when you put the phone into the holster the phone screen is facing the holster. Is it possible to flip the phone around so the screen is facing outwards?
And is it stable/secured in the holster like that?

It can be done but it's definitely not secure. They make it to hold the phone with the screen in against a felt-like lining to help protect the screen. Turning it around removes that protection. Also, although it can be done, the phone doesn't fit near as well as it does the correct way. The spring clip on top also partially hits the top of the screen. So I would nor recommend it.
