[Universal Owners] Please upload Comm Manager For Wiz Users - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

The wireless manager in the universal seems to have the Phone Off,BT,Wifi and all off.
While the Manager in the wizard has Vibrate,Ring,Wifi,BT and activesync.
Can we get the universals manager on the wizard?

vbguru613: I doubt there's any reason why you couldn't do a rom rip and move it across. But why Universal to Wizard? Wizard's sounds better.
I kinda made a command line utility to replace the manager, given VGA difficulties of the manager on the Uni. But Wizard's could be much more interesting.
V

can you send me the CommManager from the universal?

I'll try to get to it, but I'm not near my home PC until later today. If anyone else has got a copy, jump in!
If you've got it at hand, wanna trade me your Wizard's manager
V

I need the Universal comm manager too. I dont see the point of turning on vibration in an application called COMM manager!!

Comm Manager Wizard
Here it is.
If you have a universal please do the same.

To developer guru's I suggest:
ON/OFF:
- Phone
- WiFi
- BT
- IR
- Proxy
and maybe: - sound ON/OFF (Ring/Vibrate)
I think will be a good APP.

arp - I've got a new app I'm working on, VJBlooToof (temporary name, maybe). A couple of guys are trying it out right now, but it's basically going to be an interface to most comms stuff.
I haven't added proxy and vibra, but I'll look into it. Also some other hacks not mentioned on your list
V

VJ,
I think You can do it! Will be a great program!
Names: VJComm; VJCManager; VJAllComm (I like first!)
Do you develop in VB? What toll?
Thanks

Arp - I develop in c++ unfortunately. It's not for people who want to keep their hair until they are 30  It can be very frustrating, but I'm getting used to it slowly. (on the PC I develop in VB, if I need to write any quick programs.)
Hmm, the names are too obvious  I'm thinking of VJVolubilis.
It started out as a small app I made to test VJElectrify (programs to test bluetooth/voice command on the Universal). I put some other functions into it, but I will use the code in some other apps that control communications. But for me, at least, it's useful to have access and control over all communications functions in one place.
V

[Universal Owners] Please upload here

Just tried to copy Comm Manager from my Exec but it won't let me (Access denied). How can I get past this?

can you explore your universal from active sync and in the windows folder can you "Copy" it to your desktop and then upload from your desktop.

No, that's what I tried to do - it won't let me copy anything from the Windowsdirectory - either through Active Sync or on my device Any ideas would be great!

can you copy from your device to somewhere other then the windows directory internally using REsco or file explorer.
Or maybe the file is running. you have to end the process to copy it use the attached file (copy to device and run it) and end the process tree of commngr.exe and then copy it.

Tried resco, tried the task manager, tried renaming the file, all with no success. There has to be a way!

did you end the task (process tree)?

yeah, still wont copy

Uni WirelessMgr
Here you go guys.
Not sure if it'll work due to ripping procedure, but let me know.
V

VB: CommManager.exe doesn't seem to work. Does it have associated dlls?

EDIT Help please... Bluetooth half-gone

Here goes.
I bought a Magician a few months back. Hated the lack of space but liked the Bluetooth functionality. I could connect wirelessly around the house no problem. Sending/receiving files to/from anyone with a Bluetooth device.
Decided to proceed with BigStorage ROM Flash. Flash succesful. Enjoyed adequate space. Hated Bluetooth. I tried to get some help in this forum but the help extended wasn't exactly too successful. I was missing the [`Bluetooth] option in ActiveSync [a registry key I believe], and I couldn't send/receive files. I decided to give up on it until I had enough time to retrieve the registry key by reflashing with shipped ROM and flashing back to BigStorage.
I found the time to do it last week. Flashed and reflashed several times [every single attempt was successful], checking and rechecking for the Bluetooth registry keys. Yet I couldn't find them.
My Magician can still detect Bluetooth devices so I'm sure the hardware isn't busted. But I can't even transfer files using Bluetooth. Tried installing that Bluetooth Stack from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33532. Added some new features, but functionality is as stated in this paragraph.
Help? ::crycry:: hahahaha
I am now totally clueless as to how to go about this predicament..
EDIT
I've recently did the BigStorage ROM on my Magician. And everything was just peachy. Up until I tried to sync my Magician to the PC via Bluetooth.
Before I did the ROM patch, I was able to sync my unit through Bluetooth after some few hours of tweaking my system. But after I did the patch, I tried to sync it again through Bluetooth. My PC was waiting for the Magician but the unit kept disconnecting itself.
I ran Activesync on the Magician, went to its settings, and the Bluetooth option was gone. Only `USB was left along with some numbers (baud rates?), when previously it had `Bluetooth as well.
I'm sure Bluetooth works (as I've installed the CAB associated with it from the ExtRom) on the unit since it can make a device pairing and ask for a passkey and all that, but syncing through Bluetooth doesn't work anymore.
Could anyone shed some light on this for me?

try pairing your device to the pc! make sure that ur pc is not listed on the magician paired devices, activate the pairing from the magician through bluetooth under settings system tab through "Bluetooth ActiveSync Setup" and go from there.
let me know how you go!
errr.. ok i tried what you suggested. and i'm starting to wonder..
now my device can't see and can't be seen. i can't make a pair anymore even from the pc. my unit says 'no new devices found' yet my pc is discoverable.
broken bluetooth radio maybe (but it was working before the patch...)? or could it be a cab file i missed?
Hi i'm only new myself but you could try a soft reset then retry pairing your device, or a hard reset and see if the bluetooth works then? or maybe even try the cab file on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33532
I have found that worst case senario a hard reset and look for the right bluetooth cab to install from the ext rom.
run a search on this site for ext rom and look for the post with details about each of the seperate files and what they do!
*Edit* i did a quick search and i wasnt able to find anything in the ext rom that applies to bluetooth setup or settings! so i guess a hard reset maybe the best way to find out whether is software or hardware?!!
Maybe one of the more experienced guys on this site might be able to help you further.
Hope this helps a little
thanks for your time boh113. i can still sync through the USB port so i guess bluetooth will have to wait. i just use it for wireless internet around the house when i'm not at the pc anyway.
i might try the hard reset when i have more time to tinker with the magician. but in any case, i'd like to thank you for trying to help
just an update in case somebody can help
i managed to pair my device with the pc already. but i still can't connect via bluetooth in the magician's async.
ok i found something in my registry pertaining to my problem. although i'm not sure how to fix it.
in the magician's async, under tools -> options -> PC -> options, there's a drop-down list for PC synchronization options:
`115200 Default
`19200 Default
`38400 Default
`57600 Default
`USB
there was a `Bluetooth option included at the end of the list before i did the bigstorage ROM.
going back to the registry, i found the keys to this list (although i'm not entirely sure if these are correct, but these are the only ones on my list)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`115200 Default
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`19200 Default
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`38400 Default
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`57600 Default
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`USB
and to what i can see, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`Bluetooth doesn't exist. there are a whole lot of hex values under these keys and i'm not sure what they are for.
although if somebody could post/upload the `Bluetooth key from their device, i'd be grateful.
i'm aware that the hex values are also based upon hardware but i'm willing to try it out.
Ok i can find what your talking about but i dont have the ability to copy and paste the registry entry anywhere?!
if you can tell me how to get hold of this for you i'd be happy to help anyway i can!
most registry editors have the capability for exporting specific keys up to whole trees. perhaps if you have resco explorer and the registry add-on. or some other software similar to it. tap-hold and export?
thanks
I have resco explorer and the registry add-on but i cant find anyway to export the registry file?!
There's an option for import but thats it, also there's an option to copy but all it allows you to do is copy and past within the registry itself!
unfortunately i dont have the technical experience to do much ore tha n this, a quick guide as to which program to use and how to do it and i would be more than happy to help!
oh ok. open up resco explorer or the registry add-on. then navigate your way to this folder:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook
there should be a \`Bluetooth\ folder within \RasBook\ what you do is tap-and-hold on that (`Bluetooth) folder until you see the drop down text list. "Export..." should be one of the options then you can specify where to put it. by default resco places it in the main memory
will wait thanks boh113
No worries found it and exported for your satisfaction!
Had to zip it ;D
hope this can help you further!
Goodluck
Much appreciated!!
Will try it out in a bit. I'll post my results after
Thanks boh113!
well, i got back the `Bluetooth option in async. but still doesn't want to connect to the pc. the hex values probably don't match the hardware in my unit. oh well. i'll test it out a couple more hours. and if i still don't get it to work, a hard reset might be my only solution. or re-flash with my original rom and start all over again. hahahaha
thanks for your help and time boh113. forgive me for having taken too much of it
No worries, sorry i couldnt have been of more help!
Good luck with it all!

Turning on phone at set time?

Hi. I frequently turn off my phone using the Comm Manager while leaving the PDA on during the evening. In the morning, I frequently forget to turn the phone back on and I was wondering if there was a program that can turn on (and perhaps turn off) the phone using the Comm Manager at a set time. Thanks.
Phone: 8125 on WM5 with original ROM
I'm looking for something like SleepWell.
http://www.connectivetools.com/sleepwell.html
The problem is that this program works only for smartphones. I tried it on my 8125 and it doesn't work. Moreover, the program deposited 300Kb of data which I can't seem to get rid of even after uninstalling it. But I'm still looking for such a program. Thanks.
Try Mortscript (Freeware). you can write a simple script that will set a notification event (or whatever it's called). I use it to run weather watcher automatically every morning. there are several forum strings, here and on others that have examples of different scripts that you can modify for your own needs. just do a google search for Mortscript, and Mortscript examples. It also has documentation included. Learning to use Mortscript will give you more control over your device than you ever though was possible.
I didn't think of MortScript, but even if I had, I don't have the technical know how to create do what I wish with a nice GUI.

Full WM6 or 6.1 on Shift

Everyone,
This is one of my first posts. I have been reading the threads on this and cannot make heads or tails of what's going on. I have a Shift for eval purposes and after playing around with it, I think it's a pretty amazing device. HTC has crippled the phone capability in the US versions because they haven't certified it for voice use with the FCC yet. If we can access "file explorer" and some of the other features of WM6, I think a lot can be done to modify it or even to use it for voice. Has anybody made any headway as far as a new ROM that enables all of this functionality?
No
nobody has yet developed the crack. The reason is because nobody has the machine yet. Can u comment a bit about the battery life. Is it very disappointing?
well, now that several people actually have the device in-hand, could somebody please confirm that the ability to expose full WM6 exists as described by Pawel062:
Pawel062 said:
hmm dont really understand the last part about snapvue. the snapvue for athena is snapvue from shift with a small mod to re enable the softkeys and start menu. it will work on shift and also re enable the soft keys and start menu making the shift's wm6 "Full" again

greetz,
Pfeffa-rah
what about athena projects rom? that rom is actually from shift right?
snapvue is actually a today plugin pretty much. it hides the soft keys and start menu of the original wm6. then from the plugin u have access to messaging, settings, and other basic stuff.
this is ment so u use vista but with only 2hrs max battery on vista many people would like to use the less power hungry wm6. i am working with paul from modaco.com on re enabling the full wm6 by putting a modded dll that will unhide the start menu. after that ull be able to get into file explorer and get a reg editor to re enable the soft keys.
heres the challlenge:
--no usb port like regular htc phones to sync the shift and get the dll on their. only usb host
--no bluetooth in snapvue/wm6 side
--no wifi in snapvue/wm6 side
--no ir in wm6 side
--vista device central doesnt see the wm6 side
--cant save files from email to windows folder
and i cant remember now the other blockades. i will continue working on it though.
Seems like that there is some kind of file transfer, it uses it when you install a certificate in shift control center, but how to crack it open or replicate the process for other files, and then execute the file on snapvue site ....
Think its time for a "taskforce thred" where all info is posted so everyone can work on it.
Sounds a lot more difficult then I first imagined....
(No BT??? OMG! had no idea!)
Sounds like I have to be a bit more patient...
This doesnot sound like it´s gonna be solved in a couple of days....
It´s great that you´re workin on it guys!
greetz,
Pfeffa-rah
thanks Pawel062, I appreciate your efforts in trying to find a way to get this to work!
Just saw if you edit a contact and then try to attach a picture, you can browse the WM6 folders.
Unfortunately you can only see the pictures, because it's using the picture manager from HTC..
Silly thought: The miniUSB connector on the dongle formally is only meant to provide additional power to devices that otherwise would not be detected (External Harddrives etc). Would it be a silly thought to assume that the same miniUSB port could somehow allow us to access the SnapVue part? The miniUSB port is located at the back next to the cable leading back to the Shift.
I hadn't even noticed that.
I just plugged mine in for the first time, the only drivers Vista installs are for a Generic USB Hub and a USB to Ethernet Adaptor. There doesn't seem to be anything else hidden in there.
If anyone needs anything tested on a shift dont hesitate to ask. Full WM6 functionality would be greatly appreciated and would turn snapview from a gimick into a usefull tool.
OK so thanks to Michael who commented on Browsing using Contacts and Pictures, I managed to gain access to the Windows Mobile File Explorer and other software on the device.
First step is to create a new email.
From the menu Insert - Picture.
Using the browse capability go to the Windows folder
Locate Start Menu and press Ctrl C
Browse to Settings
Press Ctrl V
Go to Snapvue homescreen and goto Settings
Start Menu will be visible and you can then access File Explorer etc.
Hope this helps....
Excellent. I have sent myself the executable of PHM.lu's regedit, saved it into my documents, and am now able to access and edit the registry!

Great! Any possibilty to enable blocked things like office or is it not installed?
Also in my limited investigations, I have managed to almost access Windows Vista from the Windows Mobile side.
Using Resco's Explorer with its Network Access functionality, I performed the following.
Under Windows Vista, run the ShagCtrl application.
Install a Certificate, this can be any file you like.
You will see the progress bar appear and drop up and down. If you listen you will hear the sound of a new device being added.
Do NOT click OK when prompted as this will remove the device.
If you load up Device manager, you will see an "NDIS shared Internet connection" (or something similar) appear under network connections.
If you open CMD and run an IPConfig, you will see that this connection has an IP Address of 192.168.160.102 and a gateway and DHCP server of 192.168.160.1.
From the Windows Mobile side, load Resco Explorer and goto Menu - File - Network - Map Drive
In the dialog that appears, you should see Computers near Me (or similar) and under here should be your Vista machine.
If you share a drive, or select the Vista computer and put \c$ on the end, it should try to connect.
This is as far as it gets me so far. Was a late one, but I couldnt get it to actually connect.
So close yet so far.
In Addition, if you try to run a cab file it will error. This is because HTC have remove the Open command file association for Cab files.
Using your favourite WM registry editor goto HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Cabfile\Shell\Open\command\.
Under Default type
wceload.exe "%1" /nodelete
cab files will now install correctly.
Hope this helps...
Hi,
I ama anew user of Shift. I am did not understand clearly what did you mean about full WM6 or 6.1. Knows somebody how can we have a full WM6 on it? Pls help me I really need a full WM6 system also.
Thx.
Ok, so I've accessed the Start menu using Vs1979s instructions, and I've found that Windows Live messenger is on the device and works ok. I'd like to try and install Opera, but I need a registry editor that isn't a CAB file in order to add back in the registry key to support CAB files - can someone point me in the direction of one?
Thanks,
Dave

New audio switch program for skype and others.

This program is an evolution of the first I made. It will route the audio to the earpiece when an certain program is running.
I put the program here because I have test it in wizard, if people test this in others phones and it works, please post here and maybe move this this thread to an more "generic" forum.
the program MUST be under "\($program files)\audioswitch" folder, you must unzip the contents to this folder.
the configuration file (command.txt) is under this format:
1000
skype
fring
etc
the first line is the delay(in miliseconds) in witch the program will "look" if a program in the list is in the top level window, faster phone, smaller delays, I recommend 1000 ms.
the next 20 lines are the programs you want the audio to be routed to the earpiece(max 20 lines for now).
Again the program is under the "do it on your own risk" and "I am not responsible for anything" licence. And,of course, it is free!! Do not sell it!
It is manly intended for little expert users, as it is still in "beta" fase, hehehe.
How it works:
the program runs in an eternal loop and look for the title of the current window that is displayed for the user in a time interval.
When the program mach the title window with one of the names user configured it it will switch the audio, when the program is not running anymore, the audio will swich back.
Do not launch two or more instances of the program at the same time, could really mess things up. -- se the forum (thanks tucahara)
To stop the program, u must use a process manager.
it would be good if someone could make a cab to install it. -- done see the forum (thanks tucahara)
this is still a beta, I intend to make ajustments as people give feedback.
Thanks,
hope u like.

new aproach to do the switch and now open source, even with an class that others can improve and put in other apps...
Some people complain about me not openning the source of the app, I have just made this way because there was proprietary code inside and I had no time to rewrite it without the proprietary code.
I have made the best I could, and now I had some time and rewrite the app in open source, to those who only complain about it, get the code and make it better instead of complaining!
Thanks for all that encourage me to continue the work and helped the development.
will retire this project for while...
thanks u all.
Audioswitch for Skype
On HTC Touch by Sprint (CDMA, also known as Vogue), audioswitch does switch the audio in the Skype 2.5 windows mobile PPC from external speaker to handset. Unfortunately, the microphone is then also disabled. I hope you'll be able to tweak your audioswitch to resolve this.
Thank you so much for developing this wonderful applet. I'm sure you will have the gratitude of many frustrated Skype windows mobile users.
What really happens is that when the sound output is switched in some phones, the microphone gain changes too. This happens because the phone thinks it is a "normal call".
Most of the times the mic gain increases, but in your phone it must be decreasing. Try to figure out in registry where the mic gain controls are recorded and chage all of then to the same value. I had this issue with my P3301 and solved this way, but there is quite a time now and I do not remenber where are the reg keys to change, but I have found the information here in the forum.
I will try to figure out for other "hack" to solve this issue... thanks for reply.
doesn't work at T-Mobile Compact IV (aka Diamond)
Sound went to loudspeaker....
PS: fring last version working fine with sound at mine phone (without any additional programms). Sound is going to correct destination automatically
I just tried the latest version of Fring, which automatically switches audio to earpiece when call is connected.
The same issue occurs with the new Fring as I described above with your audioswitch program: I can hear audio through earpiece, but microphone doesn't work (or is inaudible).
I couldn't find a tweak or registry hack to correct this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an idea. Rather than regularly polling to see what the current windows is, why not use a windows hook to monitor windows messages. When you see a message indicating a window has come to the foreground test it against your list of windows and enable/disable audio switch as necessary. Use SetWindowsHookEx and hook for WH_CBT messages. If you are unfamiliar with using SetWindowsHookEx I could supply you with the hooking code and all you would need to do is insert the code to check the window names, enable the audio switch, and disable the audio switch. Or you could send me the enable/disable routines.
Another tip, I noticed that skype places an icon in the notification area during a call. If there is someway of detecting the notification icon that could be another great way to trigger the switch.
Great program though. Works beautifully.
OOOH
If this program works on the new BenQ E72 I'm getting in a couple of days I'll certainly donate!

It is a good idea to use hook, I have not think of it!
I use a proprietary code included in a lib at the company I work for to make the "switch" but it is not different of what u find here in the forum.
Maybe we can make an effort to re-make it with hooks...
so this program must run all the time? after every softreset you have to start it?
is it not easier with mortscript (for example) to make an shortcut that opens skype as well as the audioswitch program? and closes the audioswithc program when you close skype?
I am using it right now and it seems to work perfect:
i used this script after installing mortscript (http://www.sto-helit.de/):
run( "\Windows\SkypeSoundSwitch.exe" )
runwait( "\Program Files\Skype\Skype.exe" )
close( "troca2" )
(see that in my case i downloaded your original program and renamed it to skypesoundswitch.exe and put it in the windows map)
I renamed it so i could remember what the purpose the file had.. changed nothing but the name!
Thanks for the program by the way! it always worked perfect!!
so to sum up the way i have it now (most files included) on my xperia x1:
1) installed skype
2) installed mortscript
3) add skypesoundswitch to \windows\....
3) add skype.mscr to \.... (root)
4) overwrite skype.lnk with the new skype.lnk in \windows\start menu\programs\..
in the way whenever i open skype(.lnk), it opens skype.mscr, this opens skypesoundswitch.exe and than skype.exe... when you close skype.exe it closes skypesoundswitch.exe...
it seems to work perfect.. but hey maybe i am doing something totally wrong here.. than just shout!
by the way, the .mscr and the .lnk files are offcourse edit-able .. so you can put the files everywhere you like..

so this program must run all the time? after every softreset you have to start it?
is it not easier with mortscript (for example) to make an shortcut that opens skype as well as the audioswitch program? and closes the audioswithc program when you close skype?
I am using it right now and it seems to work perfect:
i used this script after installing mortscript (http://www.sto-helit.de/):
run( "\Windows\SkypeSoundSwitch.exe" )
runwait( "\Program Files\Skype\Skype.exe" )
close( "troca2" )
(see that in my case i downloaded your original program and renamed it to skypesoundswitch.exe and put it in the windows map)
I renamed it so i could remember what the purpose the file had.. changed nothing but the name!
Thanks for the program by the way! it always worked perfect!!

That works great too. The advantage of this new program is that it will only reroute the audio when skype is in the foreground. You could minimize skype and leave it running, and audioswitch will automatically restore your sound. Get a call and open up skype and your sound goes back to the earpiece.
I will create the code to do it with a windows hook when I get a chance MarceloFB. Please pm me your email address. All you will have to do is insert the code to read the config file, check the window names, and when necessary enable or disable the switch. Or please show me where to find details on how to code this myself. Thanks!
Hat off to both of you and really glad that we will have a much improved solution.

okay! I only used skype to make calls and than get offline so this way did the trick for me! but i have to admit it would be much better when i can keep skype online!
this new program does the trick indeed! it changes the output back when i minimize skype!
But still my question above, you have to start this program on every startup isn't it? what does it do with the battery?

Yes it must be run at startup but placing a link in your startup folder will make everything transparent to the user. I don't think there will be an effect at startup. In it's current form it must check every second (or whatever you set the timeout to), but its only a little bit of code. I am not really sure if that will really have an effect. The more often it checks the faster it will switch when you open skype, but also the more processor use. Check less often and it uses less processor, but there might be a delay in switching the audio. I proposed doing it by hooks though because this would use even less processor. The app will only check when a new window takes focus, rather than just periodically checking. This way it only checks when it needs to and will always switch instantly.
I am glad u liked the program.
I will try to answer most of the questions...
1- JKingDev:
I have though in your idea of using hooks, but if I use a hook, the program will have a loop anyway to check for the messages(hidden loop ;-) ), and it would have to have an "fake window" or something to process the messages. This way we have only one loop, in a very simple command line program with high optimization, so we have to think what is really the best way of doing it... I will pm u as soon I have any time to "program" again. hehe
2- people that uses mortscript with the old "troca2"
I will try to make a way to make this program work the same way as troca2, maybe with an "argc argv", wait the next update.
3- the battery life??
if u notice any battery life decreasing with the usage of the program, configure a bigger delay, maybe 5000ms, it is a matter of adjust the "timming" for each processor. Post your results here so others can find the optimum value for the delay in their phones.
4- have to start the program every reset?
yes, just put it in the startup folder.
maybe someone can make an cab that put the program in the right place and a link in the startup, it would be cool! I dont have an easy program to deal with cabs, and the vs projects for cabs.... I really cant make that thing work!!
well it is only the batterylife i was worried about. but i'll try running the phone this weekend with the program running and doing some skype.. lets see how it turns out!
For folks who have issues of mic on using this program, there is a quick solution for this problem. You can try sjphone. It provides a internal mic volume control. However, the major setback is that it's only working in wm5.
my 2 cents

will check this, but people reported that worked in xperia... and it is running in my P3301... anyway, will check and post an wm6 build if it is the case... check the error file and see if it tells anything.
Other thing, this program uses low level api`s, so your windows MUST be fully unlocked for it to work in wm6.

[Q] What is an old/broken blackstone good for?

Hello,
Today I found my old broken (digitizer not working) touch HD sleeping in a dusty box... and I kind of felt sad for it.
All the hardware on the phone is working just fine except for the touch pannel
So I was thinking, is it possible to make some good use of it without investing any money for repair (it's just not worth it, as I have the brilliant HD2 since the day it got realeased)?
Having a non-working digitizer doesn't leave a lot of options but here is an idea:
Car tracking device? - have it installed in my car, constantly charging from the car battery, listening to GPS and sending coordinates over gsm data to my PC/server.
1. The blackstone have a GPS and you can install a simple data only SIM card from your provider, allowing your device to connect to a remote server over the internet and send important data - like gps coordinates.
2. It's still possible to install any custom rom you like.
3. There is a way to skip initial touch calibration screen: make an empty text file and rename it to "welcome.not" and place it in the root ot your sd card. (Thanks to Chef_Tony for pointing that out!)
4. There is a way to control the device via PC and a USB cable: after hard reset your device default usb connection mode will be ActiveSync. Then run the free MyMobiler application on the PC and it will automatically install on the usb connected device, allowing you to fully control it via your PC mouse and keyboard. (Thanks to Chef_Tony for pointing that out!)
I'm sure that I'm not the first nor the only one that came up with an idea like this, but I couldn't find any topic on it. I also know there are many brilliant developers in XDA that make loads of awesome apps for our HTC devices.
So, any ideas?
Shouts to:
Chef_Tony
Best wishes,
Xeno
new digitizer is about $8.. buy it, fix it at home and sell it for $100
yes, you can always replace the digitizer and have a fine phone.
but anyways, since your plan seems pretty interesting, here is some basic input to help you:
3. you can bypass the OOBE. all you need to do is, create an empty txt file on your pc, "untitled.txt" and rename it to "Welcome.not", (yes, change the extension to "not") and put it in the root of the sd card, then the welcome wizard should be skipped after a hard reset, and so you don't need to align the screen.
4. after a hard reset, the default option for a usb connection is activesync. then you can run MyMobiler on your pc, it will install on the device automatically and you can control the device on your pc's screen with keyboard and mouse.
so you can still use it for anything you like, if you control it over the pc and preconfigure it to meet your needs.

I gave it a shot few months ago and I failed The problem was that the digitizer is literally glued to the lcd panel, and detaching it is a REAL pain the butt (I almost broke it). Anyway, after reassembly the new touch screen didn't work and I gave up. I cursed myself later on when I found the topic here in XDA forums that the best way is to buy a digitizer+lcd combo...

Thank you fine sir for the light on the topic. I'll make sure to add this in the first post
Every new idea/info will be of great value reaching the goals of this thread
Ok, putting a welcome.not file on the root of the sd card did the trick as promised. I conneced the device to my PC via usb and as expected it connected via ActiveSync by default.
Unfortunatelly MyMobiler was unable to install the mobile part of the app automatically - it poped a message on the phone "This program is from an unknown publisher..." and it's now waiting for confirmation to continue the execution of the app... and it's pretty impossible to confirm this with a broken touch pannel
I believe there is a registry workaround for this, but it should be set by default in a cooked rom? I'm using the latest WWE rom from HTC.com.
It will be great if some good chef could mod this rom and make this annoying message go away
1. i just had an idea on how to get mymobiler running. i cannot promise, that it'll work, but it certainly doesn't hurt.
having the latest mymobiler on your pc, you see different files there, some of which are named:
remote.exe
remote.exe.40
remote.exe.50
when you connect the device in activesync mode, and set it up for syncing (at least notes or browser favorites, something that does not actually mess with your pim data), you will see the blackstone in "My Computer". entering it, you have the storage home drive and the storage card. by enabling "Show hidden files" and disabling "Hide system files" in your windows explorer, you should be able to access the windows folder of the device. then you can copy the file remote.exe.50 there, rename it to remote.exe (the .40 file is for wm2003, the .50 file for wm5 or greater, but you need to remove the extension to make it executable).
and then, since you cannot make shortcuts yet, copy the file again to \Windows\StartUp\
thereby making it run automaticly, when the device boots. then soft reset, and i am fairly certain, you should be able to run mymobiler.
from there on, you could disable the signature warning for future programs.
EDIT: apparently, the startup folder is victim to the certification warning as well. still i leave this paragraph, as i find it interesting as to how mymobiler works.
2. another idea would be to just flash any cooked rom found here on the forum. all of them have this stupid signature warning disabled and are ready to run mymobiler out of the box.
3. my third idea to get it running is trying to modify the responsible reg key:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Security\Policies\Policies\0000101a
it is a dword key, where the value '0' is activated warning, and '1' means, the warning is disabled.
in the 2577.zip in the attachment, you will find a reg key, that changes this value and also a cab file to do the same thing.
on a device with an ARM cpu, the folder 2577\ on the storage card will be monitored for autorun.exe and execute it, when the card is inserted. i also packed 3 different autorun.exe files in there, one by me, one by navigon, and one by igo, hoping at least one of them would work with a proper certificate. what you'd need to do, is extract it, and copy it to the storage card, so the path is \Storage Card\2577\Autorun.exe
autorun classic works with the CFG.txt, which is also included and changed to work, as long as your rom is WWE and the storage card is actually named \Storage Card\, if not, edit the path.
until now, i was unable to run it, because the autorun.exe files aren't signed with a trusted certificate either, but i'll give other people time to post ideas, and rethink the thing, maybe i can make it work for you.
still i think, if you are gonna use the device for a few little features, you are not required to use the stock rom, so flashing another rom, which then does not have the certification warning would be the easiest way to go for everyone involved.
Connect it to your PC and use it as a monitoring tool!
Can come handy when benchmarking.
