Upgrading to 2003 Windows Build from 2002 with xda rom - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Greetings, I have been searching and can not find the answer well at least in non tech speek. Wiki FAQ will not open for me for some reason.
I have just bought a SX56 for my daughter it was locked on AT&T, we are not on AT&T so I bouhgt a un-lock on eBay. THe unlock went really easy but to get it to work I had to load a ROM that pointed here. Once I unlocked it I noticed it had Windows 2002 in it. I wanted to upgrade it to 2003. I have a disc that I also got from eBay for my 2 T-Moble phones I upgraded. On the CD it has an upgrade for the AT&T SX56. When I tried to do the upgrade it said it did not reconize a ROM image. So here I am.
1) How do I upload Windows Mobile 2003?
2) I see on this forum there is Win 2005 should I do this rather then 2003?
3) IF 2005 how?
My two trusty T-Mobile phone (wife and I have them)
1) I noticed the "new" phone has better reception then either of my other phones is it a better radio software build? If so how do I get it on my other phones?
2) Can I upgrade the T-Mobile Phones to Windows 2005 and if so why is it better?
3) If so how?
THANKS!

First of all, your are a little bit a silly boy buying an unlock out of ebay, because it's all for free here from this forum. But this is something completely different.... ;-)
First of all, there is no WM2005 for the Wallaby-Device you have. So you can not upgrade to it.
When you atke a look at the phone, that has a better receipient, which Radio version is installed? You can get most radio versions on our ftp-server
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wallaby/
But updating Radio could end your device in a paperweight.......
Also on the ftp, there are some "clean" ROM Images you can use for upgrading to WM2003. Or you can cook your own ROM at http://www.romkitchen.de
You can use the exe file and therefore you must only have a activesync connection between the PC and your device.
I would suggest you take the 4.01.12 ROm-Image....
Stefan

Oaky so I paid $3.00 to find you. Now I will donate 2x that because your help okay? <G>
So I now understand the ROM has 2003 in it THANKS!
Merry Christmas!

Built a rom made a donation and can't get the rom to load.
I tride to put the ROM in My Documents on the phone via Active Sync latest build. I get an error message that there not enough memory.
There is nothing on that phone yet.
Am I just stupid or what? LOL

You do neither have to pay for "my service" here, nor for my kitchen.....
When you have downloaded the ROM in exe-format, just run the exe file on your PC where your Wallaby has connected via activesync.
You do not hat to transfer the ROM to the device via activesysnc.....
Stefan

Thanks I made a small donation because of the effort you put in here not any other reason.
I will run the Rom NOW. fingers crossed.

Same error message, "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged
Cannot open C:\Documents and Settings\namedeleted \Desktop\rom.exe"

Please check the file size. Must about 16 MB.....
In the moment i have a little bit problems with my romkitchen. Transfer will disrupted after 90 seconds..... :-(
If you have a slow Internet connection (< 1.5 Mbit) this could cause the problem.
Stefan

I will kook another

No soup From the Kitchen
Just cooked a fresh one und, "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged
Cannot open C:\Documents and Settings\XXX\Desktop\rom.exe"
I am now trying the SLOW version. Some times I hear slow cooking is better.
Wow that is going to take a LONG time to download. LOL!
Download perfect and it is installing this time woooooo whooooooo
By the way Stefan are you a,
Multiplex
Graupner
Robbe
Or
Jamara
kind of pilot?

Glad to here it's working.... ;-)
By the way. I'm a one and only Multiplex (Profi mc 4000) pilot.....
No better choice availabalbe on the market 8)
Stefan

Incidentally, I thought I'd chime in as I have a Qtek 1020 Wallaby device with a ROM version of 4.02.04 dated 24/8/05 - I'm guessing that must be the newest one, would I be correct?
Regards,
Neil.

I knew I liked you!
I was the Multiplex importer to the USA for 9 years before Hitec bought out Herr Kussbmaul. Profi 4000 all the way, still the best.
Yes I am the crazy guy who had www.multiplexrc.com
I will be in Nurenburg for Toy Fair in Feb.
THANKS for all your help!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

WM2003

I was looking at the website for "Traffic-I". This is a subscription system for traffic info (and a sort of GPS ?)
The free trial refers to XDA2 not XDA1. I assume that is because the XDA2 has W2003 0n as standard?
Is it possible to upgrade my O/S to 2003. I'm not sure what version i have as i bought mine used.
Thanks

Yes you can do it my recommendation persists just on upgrading the RUU not the RSU, there's a lots of threads posting how to upgrade to WM2003, search, read more and learn
Thanks for the tips. I assume then that upgrading the RUU only, will allow all Wm2003 programs to work on my device. This upgrade is reversible if the threads regarding original back ups are followed?

Yes what you need is upgrading the RUU. It will allow all wm2003 to work on ur unit, thus you could back up as well your original default rom before installing the one that you'll cook
Ok thanks for that. I'l llook up how to back up old ROM first then get my oven gloves on and start cooking
Where Can I Download ROM WM2003
i try up grade to wm2003 T-Mobile 4.00.21 but i cant do cause i have Error message my machine use PW10A1, that version just for PW10B1..
So how can i get version for my machine??
Now i use :
ROM. 3.20.06
RS 4.01.
4.00.21 is very outdated ... try 4.01.16 and don't worry about the version as long as you do NOT touch the RSU part
Where ??
Where i can download ROM 4.01.16 have u or give me link

I've had to stop using my XDA for the moment. It's a great piece of kit but the incoming signal quality is quite poor (Compared to a normal mobile) I've missed several calls that have gone straight to my answerphone when i normally never miss any. There are some threads about signal quality but shouldnt this be built in from new as being totaly reliable. Any comments appreciated.
RSU flashing might help ... but it's VERY risky

Yes point taken on that!. To be quite honest the RUU part of the XDA (The programs etc) work really well and i'm not too bothered about any mods there. I'ts just that i use it for work and i can't really afford to miss calls and not being an expert in these things i find it hard to accept that the incoming signal quality is dependant on what sort of RUU software you have.
I suppose that as i'm not using it at all, and upgrading is risky but recoverable? and if it was out of action temporarily whilst a software failure was being put right then this would not be a problem for me. What i would worry about is if it all went belly up would i be able to get help on restoring it back to it's former glory?
Doug
recovering failed RSU flashing is a very tough process, and might not work as well ... you have to be very careful.
As a matter of fact, I 've done many RSU flashing before and all went OK ... but I know about many horrible stories about dead devices that can't be repaired except by h/w replacement.
If you can't really use it, it's ok to go for RSU flashing but pick the right RSU upgrade ... and stay away from O2 RSU 4.21
OK Biso007 i think you have convinced me. I think i will reluctantly sell the XDA (Someone will get a bargain as it has TT3 and maps on it) and wait a little while and see what else comes up.
Cheers
Doug

AT& Wireless WM2003 Upgrade

Ok so bear with me here. I am very new to this stuff (1 week). I just bought a used Siemens SX56 for AT&T Wireless from a friend of mine. I inserted my SIM, Syncronized my Outlook and things are GREAT! I love this thing. But...I'm greedy. I want more. I want to upgrade to WM2003. Based on what I have read there are a few features that would make this baby even nicer. The problem is the following:
1) I don't know where to get the upgrade. Siemens no longer posts it on their Website and niether does AT&T. I have read some really advanced stuff on some of the other topic areas regarding loading the Rogers version but I'm not sure how to do this and I don't want to mess this thing up. Does anyone know where I can find the AT&T version of WM2003 for my Siemens?
2) Is it really worth the upgrade? I have seen some complaints from people saying that the wish they hadn't upgraded because it not a stable. Or that the installation went bad and messed up the ROM.
3) Is the Siemens/ATT version of the WM2003 actually the right way to go or is there a better version?
Sorry for the really dumb questions but like I said I'm a newbie.
Thanks,
J
Ok, I found it! this is the original Siemens/AT&T WM2003 upgrade. http://www.wireheadtechnologies.com/sx56/sx56_wm2003_update.exe
I ran this last night and it works like a charm. Be sure to have Activesync 3.7.1 and remove SD card. Took about 10 minutes.
good luck!
does your SD card erase after awhile
 I was looking for this upgrade for two days until I found this site. Thank you for not using the link straight from the Siemens website and thanks for the file.

I've been using WM2003 which I cooked in Lumpstefan's kitchen for about 3 weeks with NO problems. (A.30.09)
I also flashed the RSU with the newest AT&T RSU ROM Ver A.20.10 from
Yorch: www.yorch.net > upgrades.
The only thing I don't like is the RUU from Lumpistefans comes with an add-on program "Pocket NAV". It causes the operating system to freeze, requiring numerous reboots. I shut down Pocket NAV, and no more freezing.
Have fun,
Carey
Light at the end of tunnel?
Hello,
I am really frustrated, I would greatly appreciate any help-
I just finished reading Carey's post about the RSU upgrade to A20.10 from Yorch's website. I have a sx56 (USA-MN) and in areas of low signal, the signal is lost and the phone will not reaquire signal until a soft-reset. The phone has the following config:
Upgraded toWM2003
R33.02
A30.09
l'm not asking for a guarantee, but do you think that Yorch's RSU download (A20.10) might work for this phone. Yorchi's site mentions unzipping the files from A20.10 into the \windows folder then running the RSUpgrade.exe. Does this mean unzip the files to a desktop PC then copying them into the \windows directory on the sx56?
If i've got the method wrong, do you have a link that you can direct me to regarding the method of installation?
Thank you for any help!!
I am wondering about the same thing . MY sx56 drops signal all the time in my apt and I am hoping the new RSU will help the sx56 latch on and hold on to the signal better.. oh well.. if someone has tried it please share your experience...

Want to upgrade to WM2003 - Help!

I'm new to this site and a bit overwhelmed. I have a T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone running Pocket PC 2002. I would like to upgrade to the newest Windows Mobile (2003?). I have been waiting forever for an upgrade from T-Mobile and then saw the link to this forum. Would anyone mind giving me directions on where/how to start?
Thanks!

Hi I have a big problem and i need all the help i can get
I have an XDA IIi but i accidently deleted all the data on it

I would like to know if somebody can help me out with this and tell me how to restore the software to my device, i have a backup copy on my SD card, but i don't know how to used
Please help me
thanks
[/b]
have to reflash it
how did it happen?
did you try puting any rom version in it or what?
more info is needed
hey
I was trying to upgrade the radio version of the phone, but the version i was installing was not desgined for the XDAIIi , so, instead of upgrading, it deleted of the rom of the device and now the operating system is gone
the only thing i still have is the backup copy that i made defore the upgrade
i don't know if there is a way to use that backup copy in order to restore the system
thanks
Recommendation
It is propably that the system ROM was erased during upgrade and the upgrade wasn't successfull. Try to download the Diamond 1.2 WM2003se(my recommendation) ROM images package(somewhere available at this forums(Himalaya Upgrade)) and aferwards to flash your device with these files. If u want,u can try also the WM05 system.
He said his device is an Xda IIi not the old II.. Well you can reinstall back ur old ROM, no worries.. Download from my-xda.com..
i or not i
I thing there's no matter if is it IIi or simple II. Or not?
How do I fash my device in order to install diamond 1.2?
I also was looking an upgrade for the XDA IIi but now there are not offering any updates, I have tried to install the upgrades for the XDAII but it gives me an errror telling me that the ROM version is different and it cannot be installed
...
If you mean the Country ID Error while attempting to flash the WM05 system, there's a problem of this OS. 2003se is without problem(for me). Simply download the Diamond ROM from this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18287
or directly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=3739
This contains 4 files(maybe more, but these are important).
-HimaUpgradeUt.exe
-ms_.nbf (Extended ROM image)
-nk.nbf (System Image)
-Radio_.nbf (Radio stack)
Start the bootloader(probably you are there),put the Hima to cradle,Windows at your computer detects your device and then extract the downloaded file into one folder and run HimaUpgradeUt.exe
This utility is writing what you should do.
As I have readed that the WM05 OS is a little bit buggy(some compatibility problems etc..) at this time to use in Hima. Therefore I am using the 2003se.
Thanks a lot!

Of course it does matter.. Remember that the II and IIi is now a really different device even though both looks identical.. For example, u said he can upgrade to WM2005 (or ROMs that was meant only for Xda II), but of course this can't be done, this is bcos the difference in hardware specs, 4 example IIi has 1.3 MP cam (II = 0.3MP), 128MB RAM, 128MB ROM (II=128MB RAM, 64MB ROM) and so on..
JorgeGZC, I'm glad to be of help to you..
Oh sorry.
I didn't know. I'll be well advised.
İ am a mda2 user. İve bought my device from Germany and after that i changed its ROM to an english one using a rom editor to change its country id .. This encouredged a close friend of mine and he bought a O2 XDA2i. And since both me and my friend have no idea about German language we immediately tried to convert it to an english ROM.
And using a wrong ROM (sinmerged 2003 se for himalaya) i killed his machine. It now only writes serial or usb (when connected to cradle). Someone told us that if we flash it with a original German ROM it can work again. But there is no German ROM downloadable . And even if we find a German Rom and install it , it wont solve our language problem. I am a dentist and i even cannot believe how much i've learned browsing these forums
If you can help me i will be very happy!
note : in the ftp server there is rom named german rom for xda2i.. But its a lie. its in english
The same?
That looks like the same problem as at the top of this topic. Just read all this posts once again and you'll get the right way to solve your problem. Hope that helps.
I also have the same problem. I tried to install the wrong upgrade. I've downloaded the new one but i keep getting a connection problem message because activesync can't find the XDA. Help please!!!!
...
When you are in bootloader then ActiveSync will not find the device to synchronise with(cause the WMOS is not running and therefore is any synchronisation disabled). When you put into the cradle, the computer should find new device(Microsoft USB Sync). Then is the device connected and ready to update.

MDA Vario won't boot; ROM seems to be dead

Hey guys,
I've been playing with my roommate's Vario, and managed to **** it up within the hour!
I can't seem to hard-reset the device, gives me a 'partition failure'. Since I cannot find any nb1 files to write to miniSD and flash the dev (like I do with my Magician), or a decent RUU installer to do it automatically, i'm kinda stuck..
Can anyone provide me with a decent nb1, RUU installer or any other way to restore his T-Mobile MDA Vario?
Any commands I can enter in MTTY/USB to get this ****er going again would be appreciated too!
**** knows.
Can you get into the bootloader at least and try to do apply an upgrade using the K-JAM firmware upgrade utility? All is not lost if you can get into the bootloader.
I'm waiting on mamaich to finish on his ROM dump utility (apparently the new WM5 devices mimic the HTC Typhoon Smartphones).
Change your thread title, it's inappropriate.

I can get into the bootloader, but since I haven't got any decent new rom (either the nb1 written to miniSD or a desktop installer that will bypass the Country ID), I'm still stuck...
Hi,
I am very new to all this, I will be getting my Vario this afternoon. I would like to know how this happend??where you just doing regular stuff? or messing around with internal settings or what?
I'm asking because I don't want it to happen to me  , also, when you get this solved could you post how you did it? I'm sure it well help a lot of people if this happens to them
Customer Service?
Did you contact customer service to get a link for the ROM ? 8)
May sound funny or stupid, but they do have the ROM / desktop installer....
If all else fails, you can wait for an update for the Vario, but I'm sure you will be able to load a K-JAM ROM to it before then.
I did contact the T-Mobile CS, and they will replace my device with a brand new one, at my doorstep! Great service!
In the meantime I am still trying to get my Wizard going, but since I do not have a good nb1 file or a desktop installer from T-Mobile (or a hacked version), I'm kinda stuck...
I wouldn't do anything with it. When T-Mobile get it back, I'm sure the'll check it, and if you have a K-JAM rom or something on it, then you will probably have problems. They may even charge you for the new Vario.
