Moving data from desktop to XDA II top with USB sync cable. - Networking

Absurd that everything in my calender and email syncs up - but after owning this phone now for over a month I still have not managed to figure out how to move other data or install programs.
It must be really easy. I just don't have a manual for the phone. Is there a site with the user manual?
Sorry for this stupid question...

try doing a google search for xda manual pdf i'm sure it's out there in plenty
you install programs if they are pc install programs but running the exe file on the pc then it will install using activesync
you install programs in form of cab files by double clicking on them on your device
you run exe files made for pda's by clicking on the pda they dont need installs
you get data to the pda by
1 putting the files in my pocketpc documents or what ever it's called in your my doc dir
2 clicking on the explore device button in activesync or clicking on the pda icon in my computer

thank you for that explanation. it worked! I did find the user manual as a pdf file. It was helpfull - but this forum seems ahead of the curve.
One last question - have most people on this forum with the XDA II upgraded to the magneto OS?

i havent
it being beta i'm waiting to see how stable and compatible it wil be when buzz and people are don with it
sure it's a toy but it's also a tool and my current rom does work for my current needs

Activesync transfer issue.

Hi
I'm trying to shift files backwards and forwards between my pc and my exec, by copying and pasting within explorer windows. I've doen this for years with my ipaqs. I can successfully copy from the pc to the exec, but when doing it the other way, everything appears to be happening normally, but when the transfer finished, the file isn't on the PC! What can I be doing wrong?
P.S Activesync 4.1 is a pile of crap. It's decided not to bother transferring half of my outlook contacts, I think because they have notes.
Also, on a kind of related topic, has anyone noticed that on the box the XDA exec comes in, it states that Windows NT4 is one of the supported operating systems? Not sure how this can be, as you can't install AS4 onto it.
Cheers
Quick update
I did a search by filename of one the documents that I copied from the Exec to my PC and found it buried in a temp file within the documents and settings folder! :shock:
Why is it not putting the files where I ask them to go?

applications not installing -not a valid PocketPCapplication

Hi,
I have had my Iwzard for a week now and have this porblem with applications not installingon my wizard. I tried downloading low CPU Skype for pocket PC the from http://www.skype.com/download/skype/mobile/download.html - my Wizard says its not a valid application.
Downloaded Total Commander from:
http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm ( the ARM/XSCALE/PXA version)
still could not get it to work.
Downloaded pocket doom from some site, did not work either. Always the same message...
And still I was able to download and install the agile messenger program..
It is the skype that has me worried. If you have any suggestions, please let me kow. Thanks!
What ROM do you have installed ?
Where do you install the application - your internal storage or to a storage card ?
I've had this once, and a reset helped me install.
You need to run the install program from a location on your PC through active sync. You can not install it directly from the phone.
dummy me
Sorry guys, this thread was a complete waste of forum space. Turns out as I was still new to this device and the way it functions, I never realized I need to run my programs on the desktop computer and they would install via ActiveSync on the PPC. Don't get me wrong I did my research but not a word on this issue. Not surprised though...people regard that as common sense )
Thanx for answering anyway, apologies for the dumb question!

Mac support

I am looking for a way to sync ical with my tasks and appointments on my phone. Ive found software online and whatnot, but nothing for 5.0. anyone know of anything? I would really appreciate it.
Missing Sync for Windows Mobile
I'm using Missing Sync for Windows Mobile on my OS X MBP. It works great and you can install .cab applications with it as well. Unfortunately you still need a windows machine/install to install the .exe stuff but I've found most software vendors for PPC apps supply a .cab install option now as well.

cool ill track down a PC and try it out. THanks!
You won't need a PC to install Missing Sync, it's a Mac universal binary. What I was speaking of are applications for the PPC device that require you to run an executable on a host PC (windows) to then install the application on to your device. However I just found this on another forum and I think I'm going to give it a try.
File Juicer - one of the features is "Extract CAB files from Pocket PC self installing EXE files" once you have the .cab you can install the application via missing sync.

oh I think i found this once, but 40$ and no trial scared me...

Need help for PDF Software

Dear Reader,
I have downloaded a PDF software from the followin site for my XDA IIi,
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readerforppc.html
but it says 'AdbeRdr20_ppc_enu' is not a valid Pocket PC application. Kindly help me out. I need this software in my PC.
Thanks & Regards,
That's the installer .exe - you have to ActiveSync your PPC and run the .exe on your desktop PC.
Need your help
Now let me know what do i have to do if I need PDF software in Mobile?
Thanks & Regards,
Well, maybe I was too short in my first answer (or am _I_ getting *you* wrong?) ... anyway:
the thing that you downloaded from Adobe in fact _is_ the reader software for PocetPCs - _but_ it's not an exe, you simply copy onto your device (or maybe you downloaded it directly onto the PPC?), and it would run there.
Shure, it's an .exe file - but not for PPC. It's one for Windows, to be run on your desktop computer - as an installer for the PPC.
So, if you don't have it already on your workstation, move it there;
connect your XDA with ActiveSync to your desktop machine;
start the downloaded .exe on your desktop;
let the upcoming install shield lead you through some dialogs;
then that program will do the installation of Acrobat Reader 2.0 for PPC onto your XDA;
if the XDA asks you something, answer accordingly;
done.
It also installs some converter into ActiveSync, that tries to optimize transferred .pdf files for display on mobile devices (well, I switched it off ...).
But beware: as good as the Reader for PPC is (at least imho), it needs a lot of space (some 8MB).
Let me know, if I understood you completely wrong.
Greetings.
Thank You it's working now
Hi Dear,
Thank you very much it's working now in my mobile.
Thanks & Regards,

New MDA, installing.... noob quesitons.

Hi, I just bought my MDA, and i been searching n i found registry wizard, how do i install that its cab file? in my MDA? what kinds software i need on my pc, to transfer stuff? and how do i back up my whole phone or something so if something goes wrong i could always restore? can someone ask my few quesiton. thank you soo much in advance.
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=248516
^^^ just right click on the cab file. and select cabviaacticesync. then when you sync your mda it will install. you can delete any programs off your phone in the settings.
try that. that helps for people that cant figure it out. but all you would normaly do is move the cab file to you mda.
are you using windows vista or xp? if xp, download the latest version of active sync from Microsoft.com. If using vista get the windows mobile device center from the same place. Connect by following instructions, then explore the advice and drop the .cab file somewhere on it. Pick up your phone; open file explorer; and click on the file you put there. .cab files do everything themselves.
As far as backing everything up, i dont know the best way to do it. Just put stuff on your comp, thats what i do.
oh and next time, please try and search. Other people are going to yell at you
